Hope you all enjoyed my near death experiences today. I live to fight (go out for drinks with the ladies) another day.
Love your sense of humor.
I was admiring your/dad's ladder, just before your first slip on it. Wonderful installation work! It certainly is a great and useful change. Congrats!
We had fun here today assembling a new sofa, but ours was a team effort. Have a great week. ~ Blessings!😇🦄🫶
OMG, I don’t like getting on ladders 😬 I paint from time to time and would rather contend with an extension wand to reach up high than get on a ladder!
Good job installing those cool devices on your badass windows 😎
Would you Marry an American girl ?
Well now I’m curious about the clandestine definition of cage fighting, my favorite double dry joke of yours, especially since hearing you share that some people thought you were actually cage fighting, an image that gets me grinning every time.
Nothing like an unstable chair or an unstable stool to complete the childhood experience.
🤝
I got mine out of the way around age 3 and a broken collarbone.
I took a little longer to learn. I fell off a rotary office chair in my late 50’s trying to catch a huntsman spider with a broom off the ceiling when it jumped on me me. I was battered and bruised for weeks afterwards and the spider ran and hid.
Thank you for not dying. I’d really miss your content and humor.
Perfectly said!!! LMAROF moment. (hope I got the initials right)
George you need to get your own ladder, please. That's not a safe thing to get on. You'll need it anyway for building the shed. Then tell your Dad it finally broke and he can borrow your new ladder that won't try to kill him.
Love those gizmos for the sky lights, so uncluttered and smart.
Give Junior a pat for me, missed her.
That’s good advice on the ladder. That’s the last you’ll see of it on this channel.
Better yet, get a buddy to spot you when you get on a ladder. Even experienced DIYers benefit from having a spotter.
He (the dad) won't borrow it. The only chance would be, if he had his own. In reach. In every room. And lightweight. The lightest. Ideally even walking to site _itself_ when needed! Otherwise no chance.
😅
If he wouldn't pull it from the garage or basement, he would definitely not fetch it from his son's house.
😅
Adventurous people the Dunnett boys are!!
😂
It’s totally okay if you leave things to the professionals when you need to, George. You are the home owner and your place is being renovated. We’re interested. Great video and products. 🙂
"Being 7'7", give or take 2 foot..." LOVED that!
My friend’s 73 yo husband fell off an 8 foot ladder onto the concrete driveway while putting up Christmas lights. He was miraculously semi-okay, in that he had no brain injury and did not kill himself but bruised his heart and broke ribs and sternum. In the waiting room of the ER a guy was handing out cards for his business - hanging and taking down lights. Apparently this is a common occurrence at the holidays so he knows where to find new customers. Husband is still mending but will be okay soon.
Your video was very funny, glad you did not need an ambulance ride!
I worked at a trauma center in the ER and ICU’s for years. Christmas 🎄 lights and cleaning out gutters has caused many injuries and deaths.
OMG, your comment made me laugh and laugh. "He was miraculously semi-okay..." laughter, laughter!!!!!
Speaking of ladders, my favourite kind are those near bookshelves, especially if they slide smoothly.
I've never had the pleasure of trying them but can understand why they're your favourite
I can just reach the top shelf..... N=2820 books. And 19 shelves.
What an ingenious product. Thank you for sharing, George. Keep making your videos your way. No benefit to compare and despair.
Thanks for watching! 🤠
Glad you made it out alive. Two years ago i wasn't do so lucky. During tree trimming, a limb knocked the ladder out from under me. Ladder landed on its side and i landed on the ladder with my right side ribs taking most of the blow from the landing. I had 6 completely broken ribs, 9 fractured ribs, broken wrist, punctured lung and a lacerated liver. It literally almost killed me. So be careful and use a good sturdy latter and have your phone in your pocket
Aw jeeeeez that sounds horrendous! Glad you made it through that. Will definitely be investing in a ladder this week.
You are such a hoot, George! 😄I am glad you switched to a ladder, in spite of its wobbly-ness. It's still safer than the chair and cushions. Good job on the windows. ♥
I’m actually not sure this ladder is safer than the chair and cushions haha.
@@Patchy Maybe time to invest in a new ladder? 😁🙃🤩
Your wit is so charming. Love everything you do.
Greetings from The True North, Strong and Free. 🇨🇦
Thank you! 🤠
Good Job my friend, glad you did not impale yourself on the screwdriver. I'm sure you'll enjoy the remote control items a lot.
I'm equally glad. Would have been a bit messy.
Hillaire Belloc wrote a verse which ends "It is the duty of the wealthy man
To give emplyment to the artisan."
What a great job fitting the blinds and remote control on the windows the fact that you are doing these smaller tasks you will game confidence for the bigger projects but get better ladders 😫
Forgot to say you know you can’t afford any accidents when your cage fighting is so important 😂😂Ann🏴
You often say, "If you enjoyed this video..." Well, I enjoyed it tremendously! The reason might be because your renovation philosophy is a perfect match to mine. I watched it twice on the spot. Looking forward to the next one.
🎶6:43-7:28🎶 love the musical interlude 🎶 very calming, after stories of near death experiences😬...
😅
So Fancy! Certain members of my family that hail from Ireland and Scotland also have the urge to "fix" things in the most dangerous way possible I am so glad you have broken the cycle! glad to hear your ribs are intact. Love the new instalment! 🌞😊
Well done, George! Your home is absolutely amazing, and you are so witty and charming. I just love getting notifications of your videos! Much love and hugs from Yelm, WA
WOW, Vancouver, WA
your renovation videos are one of my favourite things on UA-cam right now, thank you so much for them:) love the pacing, the jokes, and it's all so chill and beautiful
it's funny btw i never thought why you don't do this stuff yourself, it's kinda refreshing seeing someone who hires professionals to do stuff 😄
Bravo to you for your high window solution!!!😀
Much safer now 🤠
This has to be one of my favorite videos. I am guilty of the pillow in chair method also. The windows have turned out fantastic, and you did such a great job.
I love how you tell the family stories.👍❤️
6:47 eclipse moment! Way to go. Congratulations! Do what you feel comfortable doing and share with us. Thank you for your entertaining videos.🇨🇦
Thanks for watching! :)
I’ve had both these on the Velux in my bedroom for almost 20 years. Another thing I’d recommend is the fly screen - which means, when it’s hot, you can leave the windows open all day and not come back to loads of flies or other insects inside the house. As a bonus, the screen also catches a lots of dust and leaves (stops it landing on the floor below) and minimises spider incursion!
Very cool. I don't need a ladder, my husband is 6'4" so I just say hey you!! He can't bend down so well so I can scramble for the lower stuff. Teamwork.
Sounds like a great team!
Teamwork makes the dreamwork!
I'm age 22 and got seriously into house repair when the pandemic hit me knocking me out of my 1st year of college. From age 13 I worked for a property management company to make money for gymnastics academy fees (not cage fighting fees like you). At first it was desperation to make money. But after that worked out well I liked helping turn shitty houses into less shitty houses and apartments. Then pandemic happened. I worked at a Menards store in building supplies and from the got hired by a construction company. I think they liked my gymnast muscular physique as I was shirtless a lot in the yard when the weather was very hot and humid. But I said yes to a full time construction job. And then I needed to learn about serious construction work. I was hired to do framing and later drywalling. I went to UA-cam to learn from experts and non-experts. It would be fun to work on your projects. I think you can do more than you think but I understand about leaving dangerous and tricky things to experts. We like your business. And I know about death defying ladders to. Being 14 years in gymnastics saved me more than once from serious injuries. I like your recent upgrades a lot btw. Anton
As new home owners, my ex and I bought a great ladder, which he then proceeded to render useless by parking it under a tree for pruning, and "jumping" the ladder around while he was still on it so he wouldn't have to climb down three steps to move it. It destroyed the hinges (and did nothing for our relationship 😄)
That sounds like an… interesting approach. Sorry to hear about the hinges/relationship.
@@Patchy Thanks! I'm in a better relationship and have a new ladder. So all's well that ends well.
Fantastic work, and even better both kidneys and spleen are in tact afterwards.
My dad was a DIY master and woe be on the person who went into his shed and moved as much as a screw out of place. I picked a few things up from him and wouldn't be frightened of trying to fix something before calling the pros in (usually after making it far worse myself)
Apart from anything to do with heights....even watching you up the ladder made me nervous. At least I know who to call if I need someone to put those up in my place!
I think I was lucky to escape with all my organs intact to be honest! And aw your Dad sounds like the opposite of mine in regards to the shed tidiness. For one, I can’t even get into the shed because there’s so much nonsense just thrown in and blocking the way!
Great job. You made that look so effortless, George.
Is there anywhere in Scotland that doesn't have a stunning view? ❤ You're so lucky 🌷.
Haha thanks Ellie! And it is a really beautiful country! Feel lucky to live here.

First Class! I love your solution. Dreadful death trap of a ladder, I'm glad you survived...this time, take care George
That ladder will be getting binned
April 2024 purchase for George: A certified for safety ladder. 😬
Definitely.
I'm impressed that you were able to install the window devices yourself!
My husband and I put in a window AC in one large room in the house that is used more than any other room. He was able to lift it into the window- half outside the window and half inside the window. Then, I read the directions and connected it to my phone through their app. It's the best thing ever! No need to get up to change the temperature or fan speed, or AC versus fresh air! Technology is pretty awesome!
Fantastic work George! Im so glad u survived the ladder wobbles. I was getting pretty nervous for u!
Relaxing to watch the automatic windows & blinds. Happy to know you are in one piece after the installation.
George, your renovation is really lovely ! These additions are practical, and make small improvements to your quality of life in the home. I think that you might "accidentally lose/break" your Dad's ladder, and get him a new one that you can "borrow".
Save your daredevil skills for something else ... like cage fighting ! .... or going out for drinks with the ladies !
Give Junior some extra love from me 😺 Keep the videos coming, I love your sense of humour and narration.
Love your videos - and thanks for this tip! Also, I think with this funny storytelling and narrated jokes on top of such calming music, you're inventing a new style of comedy - ASMR DYI Standup Comedy 🤣
I’m glad to be pioneering this niche 😎
Smart man to know when to hire professionals!!! We don't want you flooded out or heaven forbid a fire to burn down your newly renovated home!! We love your sense of humor and honesty, so you need to stick around. :)
don’t ever feel bad about hiring professionals to do quality work!!!! i’m here to watch the process and listen to your narration ❤️
You did a good job on those skylights, congrats. The best building advice I ever received was “get the best ladder you can afford”.
Your videos always reassure me the satisfaction of small fixes are worth sharing. I love practical elegant solutions that make life easier.
My dad despised ladders as well, he broke a fair amount of furniture though piling them to get to high ceilings
Must just be a Dad thing
Nicely done George! Your first new tool needs to be a good balanced ladder, and then no worries about the DIY spleen removal! 🙏💃🏻💕
It was pretty great to get into the office on a Monday morning, pull up UA-cam so I could watch a video while I eat my breakfast, and find a new George Dunnett vid up. Made my morning. Thanks, George!
Wow, fancy! Great job.
Thanks Rachel!
@@Patchy You are an inspiration. I have a home from 1890, and I am trying to preserve as much as I can. It is a challenge.
Seriously you do what you think is right for you. I don’t know how to do all of the things that you mentioned so getting someone in is very sensible. The trick is to know you don’t know how to do it admit it to yourself and get someone in. Those windows opening, closing and the blinds are magic. Thank you. May you please take care and stay safe. Louisa. 👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️🤩🤩🤩
You and me both, Patchy! I believe in letting others take the risks on major projects. Little projects are what I can handle.
Oh, George…your narrative is always so funny! At 7’7” you shouldn’t need that death ladder, lol. Glad you have 9 lives, like a cat. ❤️
Haha thank you!
6:30 You saved a trip to the proctologist
🤣
Yeah, you did it. Fantastic!
🤠
I'm glad to see you survived this episode with your liver and lights intact.
Don't let the imposter syndrome get to you. I absolutely hate the "oh wow, I have no clue but I'm going to do it anyway" DIY videos, or the ones where the host clearly lacked skills, but took a few photo ops faking it and doesn't mention the real workers. You credit the pros, write great scripts, and are an excellent videographer.
Ok that’s quite a relief to read then haha. I think I just sometimes worry that other people watching think I’m lazy or unwilling to learn.
@@Patchy I really appreciate you using professionals instead of faking it. If someone has the right set of skills to do their own construction or remodeling, good for them. But most people don’t, it’s always better to still be alive at the end of the renovation rather than dying while trying to save money!
Almost everyone experiences imposter syndrome, especially early in their careers. It gets better over time.
Those little nervous giggles 💔 We need more of your laughter, please! 🙏
That was impressive 👏
Wow George the windows are incredible. Luv your house and humour.❤
Nice video!
Thanks Jan!
I am quite impressed that you did all that! Great job even though you did take my breath away a couple of times. Love all your videos. I was hoping to see Junior!
Feeling bad about the lack of Junior recently. Need to get planning some cat-centric videos.
It's so satisfying when you work out how to do a practical task yourself and it actually works. Nice job, George.
The near-death experiences were definitely the highlight of this video
It's definitely convinced me to invest in a new ladder...!
His giggle, and sound effects on that last wobble was scary that he might fall, but cute, and a tinge funny as well. The giggle was great.
Cheers, George! It all looks beautiful. In addition to your wonderful, self-deprecating humor, you do great work. And bring smiles to a lot of people while you do it. Best wishes with the ladies at the club. :)
Give everything a go, I say. My DIY philosophy has always been that “I would have to mess it up more than three times before I’d be worse off than paying someone to do it” and I never did. You can always achieve how you imagine it to be which is often hard to pass on. Excellent work George and most entertaining.
Love the comments re Dad and his tools not to mention his life defying antics on chairs! I suspect we have all had those moments. Thankfully they don’t always end up in trips to the hospital! LOL
We've recently moved house and I now have my own shed and have started collecting my own tools to get DIY jobs done about the house and it is incredibly satisfying to see it come together, if not a little expensive!
How satisfying!
PS I LOVE LOVE LOVE the sunroof panels upgrades! Really great! Good job by you! ❤
Time to invest in a practical and safe ladder. Maybe a company will sponsor you for it. Thanks for sharing!
I’m with you, I do nothing which may cause fire or flood. But, I’m great at planning, supervising, sanding, staining, painting etc. So contractors for the major work and I love the finish work.
2:10 there it is again...that wonderfull backround view...wonderfull
I'm with you - I love watching renovations, but for myself, I NEVER touch anything to do with electricity, and only the bare minimum of plumbing (very minor clogs, etc). And I'm not crazy about heights. One of the selling points of my current home is that the ceilings are quite low, and I can reach the highest light fixtures with a step-stool and something to grab on to for balance (wall, top of the back of a chair, etc). That, and modern long-life bulbs, make bulb-changing easier and much less frequent. I often wonder when watching reno shows how the renovators plan to change their light bulbs!
That’s so funny you said that. Our school ladder is never where it’s supposed to be, and it’s heavy to move down the hallways to the classroom. I’ve been know to put a chair on top of a table to reach the ceiling. Since I’m about to turn 60, I’ll not be doing that anymore. Glad you got something to work for you. ~Dana
I love the amount of smart things you’re putting into your home, I’ve got smart blinds throughout my place and love them, as someone with poor mobility it’s a game changer 😊
Don't be scared, it's life, it happens, enjoy it. Playing it safe al the time is great but the biggest and most fulfilling rewards I got were from out of my comfort/knowledge zone projects. There's something absolutely magical about being able to sort stuff out on your own and the satisfaction that you get is second to none. I should also mention that I am not recommending this to a random someone but rather to you specifically as you seem more than capable of doing a lot of stuff that you are afraid to do because of the belief that you don't have enough knowledge and that is simply not the case.
You are so entertaining with your understated yet hysterically funny and witty narrative. Thank you for always making me laugh. Sending best wishes from Florida! 😊 Lauren
I love your videos, Post anything and everything you feel like... It is your life and your channel so what if you get professionals in ... the fact you know you don't know everything makes it more charming. And no one knows everything. keep going and don't let the haters get you down.
Those windows opening in synchronicity were epic!
i see alot of workman using these telescopic ladders...they fold away, are easy to carry and dont seem to need that second person to keep steady...fantastic video george...the house is coming along.
Next to Junior, these blinds and openers are the coolest things you have added 🤩👍
I think I might enquire about Velux + blinds to light my very dim hall 🤔
Superb! Such a wonderful mix of brilliantly dry humour, gorgeously smooth music and thoroughly satisfying visuals 😊 Thanks dude 🙂
Great video. Very educational. I never thought about remote control/ weather sensor blinds before. Glad to know they are available. Happy to see/hear you were not injured during the making of this video. Please be safe?! See you in the next one.
I enjoy watching your videos, they give me a sense of calm. I love your content and I hope to see more of you and junior in the near future!
Nicely done George! Totally agree on leaving the technical stuff to the professionals!
Haha I really enjoy ur humor George lol 😆 I find ur videos so calming to watch. U r unique. Please don’t change a thing! Catch u on the next one! 😊
Always good to have someone hold the ladders or add a weight to the bottom I.e. where they would stand (like a small bag of sand).
Laughing out loud at approx. 5 seconds in! George, you're hilarious! Thank you for your fab videos, but most of all for your honesty and bone-dry amazing humour!
Great job George, looks amazing.
brilliantly done!
George, you low key crack me up. My old boss used to get us on the very top step of 8m A frame ladders to cut hedges……..the ladders were on the back of flat bed trucks 😂. Cheers to near death experiences and cage fights
I would suggest in your own tool kit, please look for a light weight more stable ladder that could get you up to your ceiling jobs and expand to get you safely up to your roof. There are some very stable and lighter weight (easier for one person to manage) types of great ladders on the market now and you’ll be very happy to have that for ANY job you do around your home or the b&b. Some can fold or collapse for shorter storage locations and still be very stable when extended.
Beautifully shot video, thanks George for your "slow renovation" style videos.
So suspenseful! Glad you lived through it!!
I do all sorts of low risk work around the house, knowing full well when I've run into a situation that requires an actual professional, or someone without a bad back, needs to be called. A smart man knows when to cut a check to get something done right.
LOVE you're new improvement! Very classy! 😍
Great job on the install, and congrats on the spleen retention protocol!
Love your videos George. You might want to find a simple way to mount those remotes so they don’t get lost. A sticky magnet strip so it can stick to the fridge is one way. I’m sure there are other ways too. ❤
Yeah that’s a good call! They do have screw/wall mounts as part of the kit, but last time round I just used a double sided sticky strip, similar to what you suggested. :)
@@Patchy❤
As someone with no family-support and being alone for a long time, also lacking the money, i learned quite a bit stuff. But there are things, i never would do alone. Safety always comes first. Hope you get your own ladder after this xD.
😆😆 them ladders. Great job on the windows.
Great job 👏 please please buy a safe ladder!
And if you can get another one for your dad too it could be a good father’s day present 😊
Wow what a good upgrade to your windows and its all remote. Love the opening feature with the rain sensor. I'm with you I love the natural light. Do the windows come with screens? We have critters here. With any ladder it must be on a flat surface. No part wood floor and part rug. You did good. Now on to the shed and beyond! Thanks George enjoyed the video.
Thank you! Pretty sure you can get a screen attachment which might be a good idea given that we get “midges” in the warmer weather.
@@Patchy What are midges?
You've done a great job so far with the house. It does look lovely.
Class George pure class 👍
You’re how tall?! Your ingenuity is inspiring!
5ft 7... just for clarity. 😅
@@Patchy 😄 I thought I heard you say 7‘7. and those blinds are gorgeous by the way. I own a property and home renovation is fun/multitudes of other things. I really appreciate quality details.
@@Patchy You look taller on video than 5'7", must be because you are thin, and "lanky" as we say in my part of the USA...meaning you have a shorter torso, and longer arms/legs. Long thin fingers (noticed when you were doing baking videos), and you appear to have long thin feet...what is your shoe size in US? You are proportional though...so hope you don't have any body dysmorphia feelings. Plus your most striking feature is your hair with the patch...which is frankly very endearing....
Oh George you just have the best sense of humour 😂…… those windows are amazing, great job ❤
good job putting all that together - I wouldn't have been able to do that - all those instructions? Yikes!
It was honestly pretty easy! I probably made it look hard haha.
