    I’ve used this product for about a year and have found it smoothing, a little moisturizing and certainly not irritating in anyway, but I’m glad to be more informed about its ingredient list, and some of the gaps in it. I’m not mad at it, but yeah, it hasn’t exactly changed my skin care life either. Thanks for the info, hope everyone has a great weekend!

    Sodium ascorbyl phosphate (SAP) does not need to be converted into ascorbic acid in order to be absorbed into the skin. SAP is a stable derivative of Vitamin C, and unlike pure ascorbic acid, it does not require conversion by the skin's enzymes to be effective. Instead, SAP can penetrate the skin barrier directly and then be converted into ascorbic acid within the skin cells, where it exerts its antioxidant and other beneficial effects. This makes SAP a favorable form of Vitamin C for topical application in skincare products because it is less prone to oxidation and degradation compared to pure ascorbic acid.

    Idk if you've covered this exact topic already, but I'm a guy who shaves frequently and would love a video about skincare for men who shave tbeir faces frequently. I have to shave probably every other day and I find it can be irritating and get razor bumps if I'm not careful.

      I used to suffer from masses of ingrown hairs after shaving, and tried everything I could. I suffered from maybe 3-4, almost boil like swellings each month as a result.
      The derm, recommended 2.5% benzoyl peroxide cream after shaving, and I can say it lessened the inflammation lots.
      I also use Tazorac now, which seems to have helped with the ingrown hairs, and my skins is almost perfect.
      I presume it helps exfoliate the top layer and prevents the hairs being trapped. So, maybe try benzoyl peroxide and a OTC retinoid?

    I have very dry and sensitive skin. Spending long hours on my laptop and having sleepless nights because of work often cause me under eye dark circles and dark spots from too much sunlight. My skin is easily affected by the sun because it's so delicate. It's hard for me to find the right skincare stuff. Someone I know suggested liiitlextra rice berry face serum and sunscreen to me. I decided to give them a try, and they really surprised me. I never know how they would work, but in fact they did wonders for my skin. I'm amazed at how my face shines now and how smooth my skin tone is. They have Vitamin C, Niacinamide, and Black rice water, which helped diminish my dark spots, fix my skin tone, and guard it from aging and sun damage. It also keeps my skin moisturized and calm.
    I've learned something important: if you want good skin, you need to moisturize it regularly.

    Vitamin C once upon a time wasn’t stable specifically enough to layer with ie: Niacinimide and/or Retinol. The last 2 years the stability of C Skincare and serums has seen a vast improvement. So much so some dermatologists are no longer against layering Vit C with Niacinimide due to the advancements in stability. I would not recommend lower cost brands. I would do research in the best brands of course. All I can say is the skincare industry is always rapidly changing. Staying up to date as the industry evolves… I hate to compare this to another field like psychology and the ever changing research and growing knowledge on mental health… with this analogy some people are stuck years behind unwilling or do not care to keep up with relevant education promoting incorrect information all around that does not help people for the simple fact… “facts” do not trump the opinions of those who feel they are entitled through their experience and research even if they are wrong and it’s outdated. In a nutshell…. Some of the information you are sharing depending on the brand and level of expertise with skincare is not correct.

    • @Jessica-pn9ie
      @Jessica-pn9ie Рік тому +1

      Also, I understand what you stated that Vit C isn’t stable on its own thus why it is available in other forms and not just a serum. Again, this isn’t completely true anymore. It is also recommended to keep ie: The Ordinary’s Vit C in the refrigerator bc it’s one of the cheaper brands with a short shelf life. Also, the FDA warns to stay away from Truskin Vit C. I agree Skinceuticals with Vit E and Ferulic Acid is by far the best despite the price. You can buy The Ordinary’s Resveratrol (great for anti-aging) with Ferulic Acid Serum for under $10. Hope this helps. I’ve been studying skincare for over 5 years as my skin keeps changing with age. I’ve tested many products and spent a fortune!!

    I say make your own in very small batches. Use a cosmetic L-Ascorbic acid 1\4 teaspoon of vitamin C to 3/4 t of distilled water. Add a drop of glycerin or jojoba if you like. This makes a 20% mixture. If it burns your skin too much cut down on the vit C powder till your skin acclimates to it. You might have to heat the water maybe 10 seconds in the microwave to dissolve the powder. Some powders dissolve easier than others.
    Keep formula in a dark bottle with dropper. If it turns yellow before you use it all…throw it away because this is such a cheap mixture to make.

    • @candicecandice5389
      @candicecandice5389 2 роки тому

      Yes that makes the freshest vitamin c mixture but You must also make sure it’s the correct ph by buying some ph stripes and testing it before applying to skin or it won’t do anything beneficial according to some other derms on youtube.

    How does one know whether their skin is dehydrated or dry?

    • @db-gb5xi
      @db-gb5xi 3 роки тому +5

      She has a video on dehydrated skin and I think she goes over the differences. At least one article I've seen, says a good test is to pinch your cheek. If it's wrinkling with gentle pressure instead of holding its shape, your skin cells are desperate for water. Dehydrated skin will feel tight, look dull in the mirror, and you may notice more exaggerated wrinkles, or ones in places you don't remember having them, along with more exaggerated dark circles beneath your eyes. Common signs of dehydrated skin include redness, lots of congestion, and inflammation.
      Dry skin, on the other hand, tends to be uncomfortable, flaky, and itchy. The worst areas are typically near the eyebrows and around the corners of the nose and mouth. On the body, common trouble areas include the neck, the inside of the arms, and the thighs. At their worst, rubbing the skin might sound like grinding fine sandpaper and dried flakes of skin are falling.

    • @hollytalbot5341
      @hollytalbot5341 3 роки тому

      I hear if you pinch your finger skin and it stays up you are dehydrated, and if you are dehydrated, your skin will likely be dehydrated. That being said you can have dehydrated skin without being dehydrated yourself ( I think )

    Hi Dr. Dray. I really appreciate your honest reviews on so many products that may not be doing all they claim for our skin. I'm 75 and have always been blessed with healthy skin that required little else but moisturization over the years. But for the past few years I've been convinced that a Vitamin C serum each morning will work wonders for my skin. I've used Cerave, Timeless and more recently Purad'or 20% Vit C serum. The latter is so inexpensive although it claims to have Ferulic Acid and Vit E. Have you done/would you do a review on this product? It has thousands of positive reviews on Amazon and it certainly doesn't harm my skin, but is it realistic to think that it is an effective Vit C serum? I would love to hear your thoughts. I am such a fan and respect your knowledge about skin care more than you know. Thank you for sharing it with us. ❤ Lorraine

    Dr. Dray, I purchase a vitamin C serum from JJ labs skin solutions (Amazon) and here are the ingredients listed on the bottle Hyaluronic acid with 20% L Ascorbic acid, vitamin E, collagen , optiphen, potassium sorbate citric acid and distilled water. and I ask for them to add ferulic acid to help keep it stable. What do you think about the ingredients? I later ask them what the PH was and they told me it was 4 or4.5 is this to high? What should it be exactly with 20%. Will it absorb into my skin so I can get all the benefits from it?

  • @juliecassidy7353

    But vitamin c helps your body deal with the effects of the sun. So if you need supplemental vitamin c this is one way to get it. For my grandpa’s psoriasis he used a sun lamp and took lots of vitamin c. Plus he slept in a basement with no natural light. Then he went to work behind a tall counter in the back of a drugstore. That’s probably why he enjoyed working outside so much. He also loved tinkering in his garage but that would get pretty hot. I’m reluctant to use some products sheerly because they become toxic if not stored properly or just after sitting too long. I’d look at his expiration dates on vitamin bottles and cringe. He’d tell me most things were still good beyond the expiration date.

    Dr. Gray...Thank you for your reviews. I was going to purchase this but I am not now. I wanted to know your thoughts on Paula's Choice Clear collection. I've been using that since 2021 after coming off of a 15 year Proactiv (which worked great) but I got off because I kept hearing and reading it isnt good for skin. Then getting off may have caused my skin to purge and that's where Paula's came in and help clear my face but now I get pimples on my right side of my face and chin only while the majority rest of my face is clear. With Proactiv I only got 1 pimple or none and it went away without a blemish. Now I get blemishes that are hard to rid of. I am so tempted to return to Proactiv but not sure if I should and how my face will handle it since I've been away for a year from it. Please help. Blessings~
