LOL 😆 Same here! Just stumbled onto this channel a few days ago and have been binge watching since - and I don't even have a car to dip! 😁😄 But, being a crafter who occasionally works with paints and various mica pigments it's fascinating, instructive and inspiring (and occasionally quite surprising) to see how the DYC bases, pigments, pearls, flakes etc. all interact. Conventional color theory goes right out the window with interference pigments and hypershift pearls so achieving great results takes a mix of art, science, instinct and blind luck (or as we used to say in the cell culture lab, the SWAG approach - Scientific Wild A-s Guess) 😂 It's such an exquisite yet totally Boss marriage of creativity and science. 💯👍
I just started watching this like 3 days ago and I'm very surprised on the info and experiments you do. Such a good mentor. 👍can't wait to order my set up and paint my car. Got me feeling really confident
The mixing is my favorite part about painting. I always catch myself just watching the paint mix for a good minute before i actually get started. Loved the video btw, i thought there would be a slight difference in the color tones due to the base colors but boy was i wrong. The way you spray evenly across all surfaces when doing the videos is amazing and one of the reasons i subbed. Love the content and that you can always learn from the videos!
Yea thats as it should be then...matt gettin a coat of clear in the mix will simply give the black the index refraction ratio as the gloss black....tell you what I did love about this...watching the mix shot vertically off the side of the glass mixer and i said to myself mmm can we make that swirling of hues and tones happen onto a project??? like i said before...partial mixing and even try smaller to higher ratio mixings between those lovely flash colours so pick one as dominant and one as minor.
I could absolutely see a difference between the Matte black & the Shadow black for the Bluegill. The colour was a smoother texture, with less obvious "pearls" over the Matte; the shadow showed some of the almost grainy effect that it easier to see in the white-based pearl. Excellent experiment!
That Bluegill really looks like you put a fish in a blender during the mixing and pouring. Looks good sprayed though. But wow, the hypershift and that white pearl are great. Now I'm wondering if that white pearl over a white base would look like mother of pearl, like it did when it was blending.
I could see them filming a car dipped in hypershift pearls driving by on a sunny day or on a lit race track at night. Watching the colors transition in slow motion would be really cool, imo... Another idea I had while thinking about this was to rent out a sponsor spot on a NASCAR vehicle so they could put hypershift pearls on the car. That would be interesting to see on the track, at least if NASCAR allowed the potential distraction factor.
Recently I was in my local pepboys and saw GLOW plasti dip, can you guys do a video on glow in the dark dip? I'd like to see an outcome before I commit to the purchase.
@DipYourCar Fonzie (paraphrased): This experiment and results are important because I don't a bunch of people spending extra money for Shadow Black when they'll get the same results with the less expensive matte black base. Me: THIS level of concern for your customers and viewers is why I just subbed after binge watching your channel the last 3 days (and I don't even have a car to dip)! 🙂😉😄
Echoing my surprise that there wasnt even a slight difference. I wish I could come up with some super clever crazy idea but all I can think about is wanting to see speed forms sprayed in various shades of brown. Brown is my favorite color but it is just so impossible to get right it seems. Even the videos done previously didnt quite have the deep medium brown I'm always on the lookout for.
So I have a question. I’m trying to learn and understand about all this stuff. Are these hyper shifts and color sheets and stuff you’re doing are they painted over a peelable plastic layer that is sprayed onto your vehicle? Or is this paint directly over sanded and prepared metal? I guess ultimately it doesn’t matter because if it would be on my motorcycles and if I got tired of a color and I can pull it off it would be much easier.
Can the same pearls be used with a traditional polyurethane or lacquer clear? I got a guitar or two that would look killer in those hypershifts, but I don't think a "dip" finish is appropriate there, too much rubbing going on, it wouldn't last...
I have some design I would like to do for my car, I would like to see some experiments with Applying Decal Design over the Base plastic dip, and peel it off and then top it off with the Pearl CLEAR for a finish Products. Will the Plastic Dip peel off if the decal is peel off.?
Can the pearl mix be used in ordinary clear coat paint? So if i wanted to paint my bike as normal with the normal 2k clear that any paintshop would use when painting a car/bike could i use this pearl mix, og does it only work with the dip products?? In Denmark not easy to get any of this....
I am going to re do my alloys repair curb rash ect . But dipping them not done before. I haven't watched your channel for a while so is a gloss black base coat then Silver top coat be ok or would it just be wrong.
That blue green...I want that blue green on my bike that's the color I've been looking for I was that blue green...I need to paint a tank rear fender and front fender....I want a white base pearl blue with some green letters...I want blue green and blue....I have a naked bike no fairings just tank front fender and rear plastics.
What’s used to achieve that finish on the left side of the speed shape in the thumbnail? That nice hyper black metallic look is dope. Or is it just photoshopped to throw off the real end results?
The only consideration I could see, is that it appeared as if you are using a higher ratio of powder to clear than you would typically use on a vehicle (?)
It might be a suggestion to invite the guy from the "Smarter every day" youtube channel so that you can do a collaboration video together in order to explain scientifically why those colors are shifting :-) (if that didn't happen already) He loves to do that kind of stuff, and he has millions of viewers, and he travels all around the world to make those videos. He happens to be an American so the travel shouldn't be such a problem.
Questions : is that sheen level what we could expect with after spraying totally dry? Will it retain that over time (obviously with washing and waxing)? I'm agreeing with some here white base with the white pearls would look great. Thanks, love the videos -C
Will this work? I'm thinking of a matte black base with green/blue colour shift mixed into more matte black and some glow in the dark pigment too. P.S. It's da wife Jo, asking, I'm new to painting cars.
I'm am currently in college moving my way into the auto collision painting industry. With that being said, I am getting partially familiarized with the different products used and there different applications and watching your videos is helping me with this process. But as if I were in a classroom, I have questions. When you mix the different color shift pearl's, you place them them into a clear product first then mix it. I am curious what the clear product is. Is it a clearcoat? Is it just a clear basecoat that you use to spray the pearl's? Do you add any catalyst after the product is mixed before it's ready to spray? I am just curious and would like these questions answered. If you do get around to reading this and replying, thanks in advance!
Its so much more simple it acts as an agent to spray and you can but not needed spray coats of it without pearl to add extra sheen..it is just like dip..no catalyst needed as it a diy product
What other experiments do you want to see?
experiments with different tapes for masking.
DipYourCar could you mix Blue Gill Colorshift and ZTG into shadow black? To see which would have a better effect on the black
Avalanche grey base, silver metallic gallons, red juice in gloss top coat over that CANDY PLS 🍬🍭🍷
I wish that I could paint my house with the hyper Shift 🤔🤔🤔🤔👍
Can you spray dip out off an hvlp gun?
Dude, i wish every company out there treated us the way you do. You're so thoughtful about other people's spending and that means a lot to me.
I love the clear container mixing shots
I love how half the video is just me staring at my phone with my mouth hanging open, looking at the pretty colors swirl around.
LOL 😆 Same here! God I wish you guys did more mixes in clear containers. Watching that white based pearl swirl around in the container was SO satisfying.
The mixing in slow motion is always my favorite part
I just started watching this like 3 days ago and I'm very surprised on the info and experiments you do. Such a good mentor. 👍can't wait to order my set up and paint my car. Got me feeling really confident
What a bummer lol...I was so hoping that there would be a difference. It's the learning experience though right
love watching the mixing in the clear containers
Nice idea using the beaker to mix the colors in
8:21 It reminds me of the universe. Man I would love to have my next bicycle project in this color!
Does seeing these colours being sprayed make anyone else quite emotional... stunning
The mixing is my favorite part about painting. I always catch myself just watching the paint mix for a good minute before i actually get started. Loved the video btw, i thought there would be a slight difference in the color tones due to the base colors but boy was i wrong.

I'm just here for the mixing...Soooo satisfying 😁
Did not expect a blue purple color from the white pearl on black. I love that so much. ♥️♥️♥️
the second one was incredible , would love to see a car in that color !
thank you for doing these important experiments for us
Those pearls are so cool - I'm going to have to put them on my list of things to try on my S2k
I could absolutely see a difference between the Matte black & the Shadow black for the Bluegill. The colour was a smoother texture, with less obvious "pearls" over the Matte; the shadow showed some of the almost grainy effect that it easier to see in the white-based pearl. Excellent experiment!
glad to see the large speed shapes being used again!
But how do they look in sunshine?
That's the real test
Matte is always better, because theres nothing under thats trying to outshine the top coat.
side-note @4:40 - I absolutely love that dragonfly green mix you made there
Love the sideview shots of the mixing guys! Great video too!
That Bluegill really looks like you put a fish in a blender during the mixing and pouring. Looks good sprayed though. But wow, the hypershift and that white pearl are great. Now I'm wondering if that white pearl over a white base would look like mother of pearl, like it did when it was blending.
Those clear mixing containers is all I need for Christmas
I think they're just Pyrex beakers.
DYC + The SlowMo Guys. Make it happen! 😁
I can get behind that!
to look at paint drying even slower?! Why not.
That blue is beautiful!
Thanks, now I'm confident on what color I would choose for my future car. ❤️
Love the "paint porn" mixing beakers!
Hey there!
How long does a paint dip last?
Recently I was in my local pepboys and saw GLOW plasti dip, can you guys do a video on glow in the dark dip? I'd like to see an outcome before I commit to the purchase.
@DipYourCar

Would the dyc work with wet-wet??? With flakes or color shift
That blue is gorgeous.
Echoing my surprise that there wasnt even a slight difference. Brown is my favorite color but it is just so impossible to get right it seems. Even the videos done previously didnt quite have the deep medium brown I'm always on the lookout for.
i just love the mixing of the pearls!
Someone needs to make a DYC paint mixing montage.
Looks amazing fonzi buth the ztg was wow beautiful
What are these song choices? 😂 i feel like I’m about to hear a super inspirational speech
At 6:16 what color is that you sprayed?
Man that blue/white pearl looked amazing (they all did really) but i wish it had a bit less purple in it.
Can you spray Clear on these?
I would like try to buy this clear thing . i not have here were i live x-x i cant see the name of the can . i am visuel so i try see what i need
Multi-layer paints, like old school flames on hot rods, or designs on tuner cars. Something with several layers & multiple opposing colors,
So I have a question.
I like the hyper shift it’s the the 1996 Mustang Mystic Cobra color
Love the color at 5:45
Can the same pearls be used with a traditional polyurethane or lacquer clear? I got a guitar or two that would look killer in those hypershifts, but I don't think a "dip" finish is appropriate there, too much rubbing going on, it wouldn't last...
What would've been interesting is half black and half white base coats to see how it affects the Pearl.
This. YES.
Loved all 3 of them!
which paint is better for pearl pigments? acrylic or the eurethane paint?
hi sir DYC.. i liked your videos.. what is your using clear in paint powder??
Can you please try the pearls with the white base
Can l use these pigments in normal base clear paint? Id love to have a couple of these colours on my stuff, but permanently.
I have some design I would like to do for my car, I would like to see some experiments with Applying Decal Design over the Base plastic dip, and peel it off and then top it off with the Pearl CLEAR for a finish Products. Will the Plastic Dip peel off if the decal is peel off.?
When I purchase those pigments, is this mixed with varnish? Or polyester base?
As someone that is planning to do a white pearl over white microflake metallic black why does the white pearl over black color shift so much?
Can the pearl mix be used in ordinary clear coat paint? So if i wanted to paint my bike as normal with the normal 2k clear that any paintshop would use when painting a car/bike could i use this pearl mix, og does it only work with the dip products?? In Denmark not easy to get any of this....
Hi sir, can recommend which black is the best
Will there be differences in the end result between day and night?
Learned more about black and pearls
How do you get that color on the thumbnail? Left side.
Did you already cover the possibility of what Pearl's would look like over say cinnamon red performance series?
Bluegill color shift that's how say it right? I like that one it's 🔥
By adding text of material you are using on screen will be very helpfull, more informative. Thx sir.!
I will like to see on the speed shapes a black base, Sterling silver, and glossifier with red tint on it, to try and mimic a red candy apple
What paint are you using to activate the powder
Thanks for helping us out !
I wonder what result/look if your hyper shift pearls is mixed with normal clear coat on silver metallic paint?
I am going to re do my alloys repair curb rash ect . But dipping them not done before.
I haven't watched your channel for a while so is a gloss black base coat then Silver top coat be ok or would it just be wrong.
I wish I could see a darker green in the hyper shift dip. Or does it not work that way?
It doesn't
My car is ztn hypershift .. there is no changing it unless you add an additive
I'm planning on painting my Harley! Do you make kits for motorcycles?
I like ZTE I'm going to have to try it
That blue green...I want that blue green on my bike that's the color I've been looking for I was that blue green...I need to paint a tank rear fender and front fender....I want a white base pearl blue with some green letters...I want blue green and blue....I have a naked bike no fairings just tank front fender and rear plastics.
That ztg looks amazing, what's it look like over white base?
Big respect to you bro
ANOTHER awesome video.... 👍
Can you mix Deep Sea Blue Pearl with Deep Ocean Blue Flake please. Be much appreciated.
how much time you spent drying those finishes?
What’s used to achieve that finish on the left side of the speed shape in the thumbnail? That nice hyper black metallic look is dope. Or is it just photoshopped to throw off the real end results?
can you do chrome gold with pearls
How would these color shifts look on a grey base?
How about texture? And how about after protection is applied
What fluid tip size do you use?? And what sprayer do u use? Thanks
Ots the advanced sprayer susyem sold by them with gun and sprayer
@@ahmadghosheh3104 thanks for that
what about matte white vs glossy white base coat?
How would those same colours look on a white base
The only consideration I could see, is that it appeared as if you are using a higher ratio of powder to clear than you would typically use on a vehicle (?)
So I can use black matt as my black base?
I loved the blue color
I really like the slowmo..
Dude can mix those colors!

Thanks, love the videos -C
Those are dry lol and it shines just like you see the video
How would they react over a white base
It looks like the difference is in the reflection but that may just be the angle the camera is at.
Will this work? I'm thinking of a matte black base with green/blue colour shift mixed into more matte black and some glow in the dark pigment too. P.S. It's da wife Jo, asking, I'm new to painting cars.
