Only rusted out part was the exhaust so I used that as an excuse to replace with a pace setter header and magnaflow muffler, and while I was at it put in a Weber 32/36 carburetor. Scotty, I owned a ford ranger with a 2.3L Mazda engine, aluminum head, 2 plugs per cylinder and automatic transmission for 8 years. That truck got me thru high school, college, and 2 years later. Paid $5k used sold it for $4k 8 years later. I had to have the trans rebuilt after the trans cooler that was built into the radiator, it had a check valve fail in the radiator where there never should have been one. Trans filled with coolant, Pepto -busmole syndrome. I put a miled leveling kit and concentric bushings on the front, gave it a nice stance with 30” tires. It was an amazing truck, only got stuck one time, I pulled out people dozens of times, jeeps, Tacomas, explorers, f-150s, and even pulled out an f-250 once. I went in that 2wd truck places guys with jeeps wouldn’t go. I took that truck up sides of hills that bigger trucks couldn’t go. I drove around more girls in that truck than guys with Infiniti suvs. I wrecked it a couple times, but always fixed it to get it back right. Great trucks. I heard a rumor that ford actually stopped selling them for a while because during the gas crisis in the late 2000s the ranger was going to eclipse the sales of the “best selling truck for 30 years” f-150. I have owned 2 f-150s since I sold the ranger, but that truck will always be my favorite one. I had a friend who had a 1994 4wd extended cab blue and silver, told him to never sell it because it’s worth way more to the guy who owns it than anyone would pay. Love the old rangers and B3000s. Great video and great advice you’ve given there. Thanks for the video! Keep it up! You da man!

My 96 Ranger 4.0 lasted 330k miles. I abused the heck out of it, too. Rarely did oil changes, one tuneup, and the only major repair done was the front braking system due to my negligence in not replacing the brakes. Lines, solenoids, rotors, and calipers replaced on right side. Ran 6 of those years with a check engine light on (EGR valve malarkey). One thermostat, two belts, one tensioner. Had it for 13 years. I miss that bugger. Went all over the US one year. I cried when it was scrapped. Transmission went out finally :(

I owned a 96 Ranger 2.3L 4 banger with manual transmission when I was a teenager and into my early twenties. I learned to drive a manual in it. I was irresponsible and I abused the hell out of it; hardly ever changed the oil in it, nor any of the other fluids. It was the epitome of the term "ragged out". I bought it with 143,000 miles on it and in good shape. The odometer stopped working at 205,000 but that beast kept on ticking! I drove it for several years after the odo stopped working and I honestly have no clue how many miles I put on it. I know well over 250k, but I'd love to know how many exactly. She never left me stranded and always cranked. CEL stayed on, but I did the battery disconnect trick to pass emissions every year. I sold her for $500 in the end. I hope she made it to over 300k before she went to the junkyard.

Rangers are decent trucks. Don't like getting stuck behind one though as they can barely get out of their own way, like S10s.

The 3.0 liter is a little slow. The 4.0 liter pushrod, not so much. 160 hp in a very light truck.

@SW H I've got a 2002 Extreme, 4.3/5 speed manual. I previously drove a 1992 2.8L V6/5 speed. They were both pretty slow, but I love 'em both. Good little pickups.

Scotty my 98 ford ranger ext cab w 3.0l with almost 300,000 miles is all orginal. And that ranger has not had it easy as I used it for work and pulling trailers. It's a way better truck than a Tacoma of that year, and you see far more rangers still going down the road than you do those Tacoma's. Toyota is to full of itself. Today a new Tacoma goes for a much as a f150 with out having have the capability of a f150 as far as payload and towing goes.

My first vehicle was a 92 ford ranger long bed manual 4 banger! Back in 1998. Only things that sucked were having to buy 8 spark plugs for a 4 cylinder. And driving it during a high wind storm. Clutch was slipping. But I sold it to a friend and he continued to use it like that for a couple more years.

I bought a new 1988 Ford Ranger V6. That truck had 404,000 miles on the clock when a Lexus LS 400 crashed into it in ‘16. Only put 2 alternators and two water pumps plus regular maintenance. Awesome truck

B2300, B2500, B3000, B4000 are all ford rangers. The B2200, B2600 are actual Mazda trucks.

Still got mine 2006 226k and still going , about to change timing chain and cover , slowly leaking coolant - happens to all 3.0l Vulcan engines . Other than that it’s got 3rd stereo , camshaft synchronizer replaced , couple tuneups, alternator , ac compressor, suspension rebuild, nothing weird for the milage, all powertrain is stock. Change all fluids and filters in your vehicle regularly, and it will last.
