You did a good job learning lessons from the first and implementing them. Having a better missile doesn't mean unbeatable if terrain is in the way or you haven't been locked up yet.
Great Vid once again! I think this vid underscores the tactical and technological capabilities between a Gen4 and a Gen4.5 fighter. The Hornet will always have an advantage of superior tech especially in long range and BVR engagements with early Gen4 adversaries like the Fulcrum which was amply evident in the first engagement here and also holds true in he real world. Having said that, the Fulcrum is a lethal weapon in the hands of a right pilot and can jump up and bite the ass of any modern 4.5Gen fighters in close manoeuvre dog fights within visual range with both guns and missiles. Especially due to its extreme manoeuvring capabilities, the Fulcrum has advantage in lower altitude and closer to deck 1-1 skirmish as was amply evident from the last 2 engagements. You have clear tactical advantage with the Fulcrum when you are initiating low lever/low altitude engagements because although the Fulcrum did not come with FBW tech, it is so nimble and agile with instantaneous and sustained turn hi alpha capability. Later upgrades of the Fulcrum including the Carrier version also have thrust vectoring capable engines. Great job as always! Look forward.

If you want to bluff with Russian fighters in DCS you can override launch authorisation, there is key combination for it. Round one: maybe you could have used ECM to delay Hornet first shot. Usually with M-2000 I use it down to 20Nm where we are under burn through range anyway. Sometimes it’s good to release a Fox 3 to cover a “pump” and kind of “reset” the engagement 👍 But great show 👍👍👍
only the mig29s model, not the mig29a. the "s" model has the r77 adders, and the ECM, "a" model is garbage I find (maybe i'm just bad with it I dont know) but no r77 capability and no ECM...
The second fight is an interesting concept. The terrain turns your's and your opponent's aircraft into stealth not knowing the exact whereabouts of each other. That could lead into nice tactics such as sneaking past your opponent, 180 turn, pop up for a good scan, lock on while your opponent is looking in the opposite direction from you, and then send a missile up his tailpipe.
Nice video, 'winder. Your vids (and the Tacview breakdowns) have really helped me better understand the complexities of modern combat sims, which is a wee bit more complex than the WWI and II stuff I normally fly in IL-2. Quick question: Has ED updated the MiG-29 flight model like they did with the Flanker? I know they announced plans to do so last year but can't recall if it has happened yet. Then again, knowing ED and all they have going on..... probably not...lol
hi there thanks for the kind feedback. someone else was just commenting about the flight model and if I remember correctly ED said they were releasing it the 10th of this month so in 5 days.
We are supposedly not only going to get a new Professional Flight Model (PFM) for the MiG-29, but also a new cockpit and a number of new features (with in cockpit manipulation), though as to what that may exactly entail is yet unclear. From the newsletter: "However, on 10 October we will release the updated MiG-29 Fulcrum for Flaming Cliffs 3! This will include a Professional Flight Model (PFM), updated cockpit, and several new cockpit system functions. This will be a FREE update for Flaming Cliffs 3 owners!"
I believe one of the best things Russian aircraft have going for them is a lot of them are designed to work in conjunction with their SAM/Anti-air networks which essentially forces NATO aircraft out of their main advantage zone of BVR and higher altitude combat into where Russian aircraft tend to do better which is lower altitude work as seen. I would be interested in you getting a bunch of people into a wargame scenario with different scenarios such as penetrating operations into a Russian air defense network playing to the strengths of BLUFOR and OPFOR. It would be cool to see that play out on the tac view. All that being said though there's a real interesting paradigm shift going on and Russian aircraft have made a number of key advancements that are rivaling western 4th generation aircraft so it'll be interesting to see how this increase in capability plays out in the future in wargame scenarios.
Great videos! Both the MIG 29s and the F/A-18c are good dogfighters: Would be interesting to see how they compare when they get close. Couldn't you do another video like this, but without BVR-misiles?
This shows that it doesn't matter what you are flying, tactics and skill are more important.... people like to argue what plane is superior but they are all down to pilots who fly them
Loved that. Amazing insight into modern aerial combat. A question: Do missiles ever get fooled by countermeasures? A've watched 4 or 5 of your videos and rarely -if ever- have I seen any missile get fooled by chaff or flares.

Nice video as usual. Quick question: during the third fight why Delta didn't shoot any missile when he dived defensive: he was far from the gimbal limit and was really close to you...?
Re: The last one. If you have a buddy you can fly trailing each other one can be well behind (10km ish) and above the other. The higher one should get the attention and shift enemy rader up so the lower one can get underneath the radar and engage from below before shots can be fired at the higher aircraft, the higher aircraft has the position to evade missiles and provide radar search for the lower one so they can stay quiet.

hi there, from my understanding in the right hands yes both pilots being highly trained its pretty even. Example is when Nato f18 pilots flew against some of the best mig pilots in the word, the germans, post berlin wall. they actually had a 1:1 kill ratio between mig and hornet. and unfortunately, the f86 and the mig15 are among the rare modules I don't have, if I purchase in the future I will deff do some fight here with them. (I will deff buy them its just a matter of time)
Hang on, the Germans were the best MiG pilots in the world? Not the Russians? And that's fine, I'll wait patiently for that video :) In the meantime, I'll just keep on enjoying your content!
well the way the documentary explained it, once Germany joined the west they had parts and money and fuel and managed to train the crap out of their pilots. (they said one of the best lol not THE best thats my mistake) thanks for the support I appreciate the support.
There is a channel on UA-cam called Aircrew Interviews. It is really great and you should check it out. Anyways, I watched an Interview with a West German pilot that got to fly the Fulcrum and he said that it was much better than West German Phantoms, but the Western tactics and training probably would have made them almost neck and neck.
no, because I'm a noob with the mig (basically anything russian) and didnt know the mig could do that. thank you. I'll deff look into that. im assuming IRST has a much lower range....
I have the ai at excellent and his waypoint going to me. But even on excellent, the f14 forexample does not engage me until 20 miles or so. It doesnt shoot a phoenix from lets say 100 km or locks on me until iam very close and can see it flying in front of me. Is there something i have to change in settings so it can engage me earlier?
Question - Why not just fly nap-of-earth at 100 feet or less off the ground? I thought ground clutter made it unlikely for a Fox1 and Fox3 missiles to track you at that height.
You really DON'T want to use the TWS mode in a Mig-29 OR SU-27, UNLESS, you're up against more than one target and it's an emergency! The reason for this is, the TWS in the Mig's Radar uses Interleaved Radar Mode, which is just a fancy way of saying that it alternates between Medium and low or medium and High-PRF! So look at it this way... The Higher the PRF the higher the Range that the radar can see and lock targets! This is why you'll often get a spam-missile fired at you at maximum range when you're going in a head-on aspect with the A.I. and it's controlling the Mig-29, BUT it serves a VALUABLE PURPOSE! It allows you to put your opponent on the defensive which gives you time BEFORE he can fire to follow up with a shot that WILL most likely kill him! *Although i will say that the F-18 may have a longer-ranged-radar than the F-15C but i doubt it! And all of this info comes from learning 1v1 engagements in DCS against the Mig-29 while flying the F-15C.
oh!,...AND ONCE YOU SPOT YOUR ADVERSARY...REMEMBER TO CRANK, give yourself time to decide whther you want attack high or down low, or if he fires first you're basically half way in there to an escape vector! *also, i know you've already demonstrated the "F-Pole" Maneuver which is why i'm reminding you to use it in every day fights! Remember Kids!...F-pole is your FRIEND! LOL! (And keep the great videos coming!)
The 4x R77+2R73 is a western style loadout which nullifies any small advantage the MiG29 has. The R-77 has horrible, horrible range, its comparable to the AIM-120A in performance. I usually take 4x R77 on the outer pylons and one R-27ET+R73 on the inner pylons. Just 77 and ET works aswell. Loading a single R-27ER might work aswell, because you can force the enemy defensive by firing first (ER has higher range than the AMRAAM). I wouldnt use the MiG29 until 10th october PFM+cockpit update anyway because the RWR is currently bugged, so you dont see the distance to an incoming amraam which makes it harder to calculate whether you need to turn cold or not.
Fresh Dumbledore thank you, I was wondering what’s going on with the rwr I thought I was doing something wrong in regards to it. Nice to know it’s a bug.
Why do you put the R77 on outer and IR missiles on inner pylons? Is it because you don't want missiles under the wings anymore when you enter dogfight?

Safwan Shariq there were a couple rounds where we both killed each other and then one where he rammed into the ground. So I removed those so the video wasn’t 40mins long. But the final round was the one u see in the video “round 3” where I kill him cuz he’s using a 1 bar scan on his radar and I manage to sneak under it. (That’s my theory as to why he didn’t see me anyway)
@@GrowlingSidewinder Ahh, lol, I remember when the AFM came put on the SU-25t. Man that was a shock. But little things, dose firing a weapon move the center of gravity? Dose the aircraft "feel" like its moving through a fluid. You're used to the pfm, and the AFM. If the MiG-29 is used on the sfm, it would feel very generic to you and like you're not flying an actual airplane. It's hard to describe but it would be noticeable immediately. Like it would feel like you were flying a very limited simulation.
yes, firing the gun makes the plane shake u can only do short bursts. yes the aircraft feels like its moving thru a fluid, pulling up you can hear the air going over ur wings, u can almost actually feel it. the actual flight model of the mig does feel different from any other plane in the sim. so I think the answer to ur original question was yes.
He was at higher altitude, how could you open the fire first (round 3)? why did not he fire the amrram at you before you did, and keep you busy defending youself instead of comfortably kill him..provided that the F-18 has a superior radar and avionics
"on 10 October we will release the updated MiG-29 Fulcrum for Flaming Cliffs 3! This will include a Professional Flight Model (PFM), updated cockpit, and several new cockpit system functions. "
with that first engagement, I see what you're trying to do, but you're flying straight at the missile for way too long. It's probably better to crank right and give the missile a nice huge offset to chase and hold that for about 5 seconds (which seems like forever, really just gotta wait for it), and THEN turn back in to fire a missile and keep on turning to crank off to the opposite side just as much. After holding that for a little, then you can do what you need to do. But when you get in close, you really should be looking at either breaking defensive or shooting enough missiles to force him to act. *Edit* Also, I'd say that you going defensive wasn't defensive enough. You more or less did exactly what you did with the first missile, which is why you ate it. And then what he did for the 2nd engagement with going vertical to turn around to try to find you when he could've used the hills to try to do something is... odd. 3rd engagement he really just set himself up for failure.
ya 2nd one I think he turns around cuz he doesnt know how far back I am. i''m sure if he knew I was that close he would have nosed down and tried to hide.

oh!,...AND ONCE YOU SPOT YOUR ADVERSARY...REMEMBER TO CRANK, give yourself time to decide whther you want attack high or down low, or if he fires first you're basically half way in there to an escape vector!
Its because of weight. 27ET in the middile and 73 outside would crate weird drag
And that is modeled in DCS?
Obviously
Sweet vid, I wouldn’t mind doing a 1 v 1 sometime? Do you use VR?
Is the IRST implemented on the mig?
Alright, I have a few of the things i need rounded up. But how is your games visuals so crisp? Is it maybe because you play in 4k?
probably the gtx1080 ti ? I have everything maxed out graphics wise.
Is there a way to change the display in the mig29? I find it rather useless to show the AA interface 2 times.
NASA called... they want their supercomputer back.
thunder8 's well they can't have it. I need it for my flight sims that's more important than the Mars rover and man's journey to space.
Hahahahahaha
great kills, i was just wondering why he couldn't see you, cos you are in the open terrain and he has altitude just like in first engagement
probably didnt have his radar pointed down far enough so i managed to slip underneath
@@GrowlingSidewinder fair enought, btw awsome videos, keep it up, specialy debreathings
copy that man thank you
10:55 RIP did he just break the sound barrier? Lol
How do I get DCS? Do I need to download it or is it something you can buy at any PC game store. Also what are the minimum computer requirements?
free download mate, 1 free map, and 2 free airplanes for you to start.
not sure about minimum requirements but its free to download so try it and see if it works.

Growling Sidewinder Do I get to choose which free plane to get? Because I want the Mirage 2000.
@@zhenghe5270 no theyre pre set. u get a trainer propeller one, and a su25 ground attack aircraft. (the su25 can actually be a lot of fun when you learn it)
Just don't get DCS and then become like most players of this "simulator" I really don't want to use that term ugh. Just don't think that you are a pilot just like the real fighter pilots
The scenery reminds me of Behind Enemy lines movie of 2001....
SAM has been launched... Ahhhhhhhhhh!
"were being painted......what? shit they fired scoop it" ya love that scene.
Yep my man
PvP makes me feel like I am attending a navy fighter weapons school.... With Sidewinder as Jester
Love so much the 29 *&*
this... thing is unbelievable
Why dont u try mig 21?
And is it possible to fly the YF-23?
Where are these servers? Open beta installed..fly around for what feels like days looking or hunting until bingo arrives...
this was a private server, if you want to join a PvP server search growling sidewinder and join the Caucasus open conflict.
@@GrowlingSidewinder will do. Great vids pal. Super entertaining and strategically educational..👍flight sim education at its best!!
@@Barney-ic3uy thanks man, glad you found it useful.
In round three his reckage crashed at supersonic speed😣. I almost feel bad for him
Edit = Delta's reckage
Invite grim reapers too as ur tac view explains pilot skills in an excellent way
muhammad ali The reapers are great. Learned so much from them. They’d be a great guest.
@@Rokaize getting much better at tactics dogfights just by watching your videos 😊. Bro i have another suggestion for you also , watch jester814 (Arma3) . We would love if you create cinematic videos of close Air support from his missions.
good content!
Cool! You guys should be on discord together so you can talk shit while you fight. Would love to see more PvP
impressive
TWS?
why he dedn't shot at u?
I love MiG-29s and MiG29k
Tactics! Good job :)
Is it really that easy ?
How many times did he win and how many times did you?
Safwan Shariq there were a couple rounds where we both killed each other and then one where he rammed into the ground. So I removed those so the video wasn’t 40mins long. But the final round was the one u see in the video “round 3” where I kill him cuz he’s using a 1 bar scan on his radar and I manage to sneak under it. (That’s my theory as to why he didn’t see me anyway)
Growling Sidewinder can you do a rematch but with you in the hornet.
got to learn how to notch those incoming missiles,,,,
Dose the migraine 29 have a PFM yet?
I dont know man. not sure if they ever did it.
@@GrowlingSidewinder it should be pretty easy to tell.
even if I've never flown it before? (don't know how it use to be)
@@GrowlingSidewinder Ahh, lol, I remember when the AFM came put on the SU-25t.
Mig 31 with vector engine please
luck was on your side in round 2
very much so
I would rather see head to head set up, 3km separation at mach 1 and rear aspect IR missiles and guns only..
the game should show your hand on that throttle, for it to be more realistic.
literally working on something like that. will release it soon
I am waiting for DCS: JF17 Vs JC39 gripen vs F16 Vs tejas.
jf17 is not so good with radar, but lets see how the pilot got talent.
He was at higher altitude, how could you open the fire first (round 3)? why did not he fire the amrram at you before you did, and keep you busy defending youself instead of comfortably kill him..provided that the F-18 has a superior radar and avionics
Far away from Superior Only F-14 and F-15 / Mig 31 have superior radars.
GG ace!
No ET's? WTF mate? Great video, though.
soon man, was practicing with r77 for now. I was losing my mig virginity
You've definitely to do that again with the PFM of the MiG-29. Matt Wagner said it's in testig.
damn they haven't dropped that yet? I thought thats what I was flying
Nope the actual FM is an AFM.
any word on when?
"on 10 October we will release the updated MiG-29 Fulcrum for Flaming Cliffs 3! This will include a Professional Flight Model (PFM), updated cockpit, and several new cockpit system functions. "
sweet thanks for that update
cool pvp dude
with that first engagement, I see what you're trying to do, but you're flying straight at the missile for way too long.
I think on pvp u should b playing 3 rounds ..1st with long range amram 9 metc 2 round wt guns only 3 with sidewinder nd guns
