In the early '80s I worked for an electronics company that made milspec components. We had a contract with a company in the UK for some parts destined for the Tornado. I always got a kick out of the phrase that we used on the customs paperwork, "Goods in aid of the Tornado." Made it sound like disaster relief.
Reminds me of a signature line I used to see on Usenet posts decades ago from a guy at McD-D: “McDonnell-Douglas Destructive Testing Laboratory: YOU MAKE IT, WE BREAK IT…GUARANTEED!”
When i was a kid, i always heard the Tornadoes flying over en route to their training area above the north sea. Having not seen many other fighter planes at that time, i thought they're the coolest thing ever. Nice to see them here, if only briefly.
I remember watching the VMA 122 "Werewolves" operating out of Al Assad in 09. I used to hang out right next to the taxiway. You could almost reach out and touch the plane as it rolled by.
Outstanding. Air Power is so important. The dogfight is my favorite. Good work not jettisoning the boom for the mission target. I wish I had flying skills. One day. Thanks for sharing your adventures and knowledge. The Hornet is a Beast.
The later model Aim-7s are perfectly decent so long as you launch within the correct parameters. The Tornados were coming in too high. The Tornado would make those runs at 50ft or less.
Man, that whole airframe is just such an underrated workhorse jack of all trades. Hornet C, D, Super Hornet, whatever. Love them all and absolutely iconic looking. Independence Day is the only time they ever got their due in pop culture. Watching Will Smith jinking alien plasma globs as a 10 year old might be why I love that jet so much lol.
At 12:53 you mention German Tornadoes - only problem is Germany didnt participate in Desert Storm, these should have been British Tornadoes. Thanks for the vid and the mission, Im looking forward to flying it this weekend. Moar Desert Storm content!
Imagine the poor fool in a MIG 21 back then, and seeing that futuristic looking F-18 coming towards you. Ya, that would suck, think I'd turn and burn and hope he didn't follow
Depends on the MiG-21, upgraded MiG-21 Bisons of IAF with R-73s and R-77 capabilities along eith Israeli Jammers were a handful for USAF F-15s in mock dogfights, although the USAF pilots were handicapped with lack of AWACS and no FOX-3s, in the knife fight the MiG-21s snuckup on F-15s that had their attention on the Su-30s
Before you shot down that second MiG-21 with a heater, you shot your AIM-7 on a break X, which basically means you were too close and therefore out of the WEZ.
The biggest thing to remember about these larger scale engagements is that you would know all these guys in your formation. You would likely have helped train them and know where their deficiencies are… brings a whole other level of dread to a large scale fight of ANY era
The Naval Aviation Museum here in Pensacola, Florida happens to have one the 2 F/A-18C that did score a MIG-21 Kills during Operation Desert Storm on display next a MIG-21.
Amazing content @GrowlingSidewinder! Was wondering will there ever be, if able, some videos of the P-40 being used/tested out??? That would be amazing if that’s a possibility. Love the videos man!
plenty of them were fired inside parameters missile tech just wasn't that good back then. A lot of them just fell off the wing, or didn't come off at all.
Another excellent video, really enjoying the mix of eras recently. Only thing I’d say against, and I mean this in the nicest way, when I’m binging I’m getting a bit tired of you explaining CCIP every. single. time. And that’s as a new viewer/subscriber. Basically, you shouldn’t feel you need to explain that same point over and over. If you were to use an acronym/initialism I’m not familiar with, I’d check the comments or google it. It’s just a little thing, but it grates when I’m binge watching 😂
Is there a Tornado mod you can show or is one in the works? Flew with a Captain who was an ex-Tornado pilot in the RAF and his stories about how fast the jet was down low got me hyped.
I know an Air Force pilot literally wouldn’t care about it, but I’d love to know what the effect of turbulence is on a fighter jet, is it more or less noticeable than an airline, and does it affect stability? Any commenters?

Like to see videos of you flying the Panavia Tornado.
Same mission, but with the A10 :)
Could you do some missions with the F-14 to tomcat
the Panavia Toronado's were awesome.. what were they carrying after the run? 😉loved the member berries.✔
L39 vs aermacchi common buddy it's been a year I have been asking for this ultimate fight of two trainers
Sparrows getting together saying, "OK fellas, we can do it this time!"
the fourth on is like "nope" :)
Man I can’t wait for the Tornado to be in DCS.
Then GS gotta do a runway strike, the mission from hell
Yes that will be amazing
Gimme that JP-233

I'm a simple man. I see GS uploads, I click.
Hmm. I think there's a song about that... 🤔
Kind of man
Or be something
You love and understand
I’m the same
I'm getting there.
Same here, don't even care what's fighting, where or against what.
Oh Hell Yeah, a Desert Storm mission!
More! MOAR!
MOAR!
Vietnam or Korea next
What's crazy about Desert Storm is the fact the Iowa class Battleships were used
Hornet must be one of the best looking planes ever imo. Just love how that thing looks.
I always found the round engine intakes had a really nice look to them. I like the round intakes on the Rafael too, sexy😊
super agree!
F22 hard to top
It's a good day in the office lately when GS makes it back with no holes in his ride. 😁
5:28: Geez that first MiG-29 pilot cratered the ground HARD.
The pilot jettisoned but is playing definitely did not LOL
When i was a kid, i always heard the Tornadoes flying over en route to their training area above the north sea. Having not seen many other fighter planes at that time, i thought they're the coolest thing ever. Nice to see them here, if only briefly.
I love falling asleep to your videos. I am from Germany and if you upload, it's always when I go to sleep 😂
Me too, im from Finland 😊
Ah the sparrow. Such a beautiful missile when it works. Especially when it pulls hard turns
3:56 this is when Kickstart My Heart starts playing
Those panavia tornado looks pretty cool !
Ja, ist ze Gemans!
I remember watching the VMA 122 "Werewolves" operating out of Al Assad in 09. I used to hang out right next to the taxiway. You could almost reach out and touch the plane as it rolled by.
I know we can't always do WW2 but you're doing a great job of mixing up the variety of all these contemporary era scenarios.
Outstanding. Air Power is so important. The dogfight is my favorite. Good work not jettisoning the boom for the mission target. I wish I had flying skills. One day. Thanks for sharing your adventures and knowledge. The Hornet is a Beast.
For some reason the desert storm is my favorite hornet content, and the hornet is my favorite desert storm content
The later model Aim-7s are perfectly decent so long as you launch within the correct parameters.
The Tornados were coming in too high. The Tornado would make those runs at 50ft or less.
More F/A-18 Please, the goat multirole IMO, much love GS
Good stuff GS! It always makes me laugh that when you shoot someone down, they can always eject, but we can’t if we get hit!😂
The F/A-18 Charlie and Deltas are definitely my favorite airframes
Man, that whole airframe is just such an underrated workhorse jack of all trades. Hornet C, D, Super Hornet, whatever. Love them all and absolutely iconic looking. If top gun maverick didn't give the hornet the respect it deserves then no movie will
YEEEEEEEEEEES THE HORNET! THANK YOU!
That Tornado strike was nasty - high speed, low approach, devastating effect!
These Tornados are so mega cool, that big ass tail, fantastic aircraft!
At 12:53 you mention German Tornadoes - only problem is Germany didnt participate in Desert Storm, these should have been British Tornadoes. Thanks for the vid and the mission, Im looking forward to flying it this weekend. Moar Desert Storm content!
I think German Tornado only fought in Kosovo destroying Radar Systems. After that they mostly became recon aircraft.
@@JazzJaRa no. there constitution at the time forbade it.
@@richa8308 From what i have seen german Tornados destroyed Radar Systems with HARM missles. So i think they did.
@@JazzJaRa Yeah they did. German ECR Tornados destroyed radar sites.
That Battlefield 1942 intro theme remix at the end was the cherry on the cake. 🥰
Imagine the poor fool in a MIG 21 back then, and seeing that futuristic looking F-18 coming towards you. Ya, that would suck, think I'd turn and burn and hope he didn't follow

I wonder how many MiG-21's defected to Iran for this reason
@@Archer89201 Yeah, they're a threat...when the Blufor planes are intentionally (unrealistically) handicapped.
Those Panavia Tornado bomb trucks looks mean.
Everyone with an opinion on the Sparrow should watch the video about it from "Not a Pound for Air to Ground". It's very good.
VMFA-122 Crusader here. Oorah Powerline!
Good to see the F/A-18 back. I’d love to see the return of the Tomcat or Phantom though
Didn´t expect to see German Tornados in Desert Storm. What a surprise. :)
that dogfight with the fishbed was really cool
Before you shot down that second MiG-21 with a heater, you shot your AIM-7 on a break X, which basically means you were too close and therefore out of the WEZ.
I served in Desert Storm. I guess I’ll take my limited A10 skills and go get shot down in contested airspace. Great video!
If you wanna do some more Desert Storm F-4 Wild Weasel that would be cool too...
Thanks for the mission. Love when you share the .miz
Go the F-18. Such a good video.
For some reason it blows my mind the F-18 was the pinnacle of multi role tech in 1984 and still continues to be extremely effective 40 years later
This was an absolute movie
The biggest thing to remember about these larger scale engagements is that you would know all these guys in your formation. You would likely have helped train them and know where their deficiencies are… brings a whole other level of dread to a large scale fight of ANY era
I always LOVE this mission vids. Keep em coming! Well done sir.
YESSSS thank you gs! Love me some F-18 combat
I half to admit this is awesome!!!!
Yay good old Hornet never disappoints
14:25 i swear to god I thought a mosquito was bullying me
love the missions 💪🏻
Mission available... Yes!!! Thank you thank you thank you.

Love to see the Tornado, would be nice to see a mission where you are flying it❤❤❤❤
I love the mission videos you post
Shark tail ‘nado’s baby, yeah!
14:59 Ziele gesichtet! Volltreffer!
Amazing content @GrowlingSidewinder! Was wondering will there ever be, if able, some videos of the P-40 being used/tested out??? That would be amazing if that’s a possibility. Love the videos man!
10:07 I absolutely love the mig-21
Nuevo seguidor desde Dominican Republic
Those Tornadoes looked sick!
Great videos!! Would also love to see some more IL-2 Great Battles gameplay!
Man, back in the Hornet! Hell yeah!
I read that most sparrows and sidewinders that missed were fired outside of parameters.
plenty of them were fired inside parameters missile tech just wasn't that good back then. A lot of them just fell off the wing, or didn't come off at all.
Merry Christmas, GS! Someday, maybe Santa will bring me a new computer and I'll be your wingman on a few missions. :)
An early version of A-10 mission could be fun too.
Love your videos! Thanks! When could you do a dogfight Tornado against Tomcat, actually 2 videos, one with you flying the Tornado against the Tomcat!
That last sparrow had to break the streak
F/A-18E/F vs F-35C (Fox-2 fight) would be epic to see! Navy vs Navy : Old vs New
Day 180
BF4 vibes with that ending song, GG
Never realized how big the Sparrow is, (compared with the F18). They look so much smaller slung under an F4. 👍
Tornadoes look amazing
Sparrows are on point today. Maybe the FA/18's Radar has something to do with it as one can't hit squat with the Phantom's radar lol
I would love to see you fly the Tornado if that becomes possible!!
I wouldn't mind seeing some MIg 29 content. Some of the mission type content would be fun. Something other than just straight up dog fights
Tornado... a rather impressive machine still today
Tornado doing what tornado does : wreck airfields.
Great fun, excellent.
Please say there is going to be Tornado content coming soon!!??? Please, please, pleeeeaaaassssseeee!

You know, I would love to see a Mig-21 vs an F/A-18 Supremely Outmatched challenge.
Have you ever done any flights with the F-117 Nighthawk? They were flown during Operational Desert Storm. Really like your channel by the way.
awesome video, bro.....now try this mission with P51s LOL
When you do not break track the sparrow was a good missile it's makes you vulnerable though so when you got to dodge your sparrow could fail
love this content.
Luftwaffe in Desert Storm? Those should have been RAF Tornados.
Awesome video though.
Desert Storm was a true turkey shoot.
Would be good to see you going the tornado
We need tornado footage!
Can't wait for the Jag to show up on DCS...
Great video. Thanks for sharing the mission. Have you done any reviews of the DCS Iraq map?
8:30 no "Fox 1 Mig21 low!"?
OUTSTANDING!
Love your movie like content
Is there a Tornado mod you can show or is one in the works? Flew with a Captain who was an ex-Tornado pilot in the RAF and his stories about how fast the jet was down low got me hyped.
That Tornados looks nice. Any chance doing ground mission in one ?
FULLY LOADED HORNET YOUR A UNDER POWERED BUS
Shock and awe
Joshua 24:12 mentions them again 👀
I know an Air Force pilot literally wouldn’t care about it, but I’d love to know what the effect of turbulence is on a fighter jet, is it more or less noticeable than an airline, and does it affect stability?

In memory of IIAF
Which jet do you prefer more, F16 or F18?
