I'm old enough to remember when this song hit the radio waves for the first time. And here I am in 2024 ( hard to think how fast the years passed) and I'm watching young people react to my favorite songs and singers. It's really nice to see the appreciation for those wonderful artists. Thank you, watching from the Texas coast!

I was a teen throughout the sixties. It seemed every summer, there would be a Rivers' song. Memphis, Seventh Son, Mountain of Love, Secret Agent Man, Poor Side of Town, Summer Rain, Baby I Need your Lovin'. Johnny had 9 top ten hits in nine years.

The backup singers were known as The Blossoms. Johnny didn't write many of his hits but he wrote this one and it's his best song he ever did.

Johnny is a recording artist, concert promoter, record company (Soul City Records) owner, and launched the careers of some pretty beg names, Al Wilson and the Fifth Dimension come to mind. Johnny is alive and still active in the biz.

Johnny Rivers was one of my favorite singers in the 60's & 70's check one of his other songs (Secret Agent Man) title song from the T.V. show of the same name

Most people don't know it but those beautiful backup vocals were from the black female singing group The Blossoms and they were perfect for this song. They made this song and should get credit. The song should be Johnny Rivers and The Blossoms.
I agree. More accurately, it is Darlene Love & the Blossoms. And now you know why Darlene Love is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Johnny Rivers is not.

I got to see him perform 10 yrs ago here in Washington, and let me tell you, and 70-something yrs old he was Phenomenal! Still the great Johnny Rivers! He gave such a great show, we all were having fun & rockin' out; and I couldn't believe that his voice hadn't changed to any real noticeable degree! He was just an awesome, down to earth, kindhearted man who expressed how grateful he was to see that he had still had so many fans; he packed the venue both nights!🥰

His actual name is Johnny Ramistella. He was born in New York November 7,
1942. He grew up in my hometown of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and graduated from Baton Rouge High School. The school had a benefit to preserve the building which is an iconic landmark in Baton Rouge in the late 1990s and he came back to play the concert. Awesome performance! Loved your reaction

I don't remember any other songs by Johnny Rivers. There was one called "Rag Doll" he might have sung. There were several groups that had 1 hit status and they kind of faded out. Don't know if you ever heard of "Fever", by Peggy Lee. A torch song. It's great.
Oh man, brings back such memories~~~I went to a concert in 1968. Center stage floor seats, sigh. What a night and still have his greatest hits 33 album. His cover of Whiter Shade of Pale is awesome. And YES, Slow Dancing Swayin' to the Music - did a lot of that. LOL As a teenager, Johnny Rivers, Righteous Brothers, Rolling Stones, Animals, and main stream classic Country concerts were amazing for everyone!

He’s only in the Louisiana HoF. He was nominated for the national HoF but was never inducted.
On June 12, 2009, Johnny Rivers was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame. His name has been suggested many times for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but he has never been selected. Rivers, however, was a nominee for 2015 induction into America's Pop Music Hall of Fame.

You have got to listen to Memphis next followed by Dancing to the Music ... they are quite different from each other. Then any other songs that have been mentioned by others. These are two I like very much and think you will too, but you can't go wrong with any of his songs. He has a great voice and for some reason is often overlooked! God bless you.

johnny rivers did a lot of covers but poor side was his original. the mo town blossoms did the back up which amazed everyone. the blossoms were fabulous but never made it.
