Golda is a ticking-clock thriller set during the tense 19 days of the Yom Kippur War in 1973. This is a damn good trailer. I like how the background music is Leonard Cohen’s rendition of a famous prayer recited on Yom Kippur, because of the Yom Kippur War

In fact Cohen wrote this song after his first-hand experience of the Yom Kippur war. He was there to play for the soldiers in the front, to lift their spirits between fights. I realize it's tough to do, but a little authenticity in her accent would make this add so much to the realism of her character. A phenomenal portrayal of a phenomenal human otherwise.
I also have a tough time with her speech but not because of any accent. When I viewed the trailer I couldn't help thinking "How strange that a video with Gold Meir has Helen Mirren's voice coming out of her mouth". Golda Meir did speak with an American accent since she moved to the US at the age of 8 from Ukraine and spent 15 years there before emigrating to what was then Palestine. I saw this as a play in Toronto many years ago, and the strangest thing happen. At the very end, the silence in the audience was overwhelming, and as if planned and rehearsed, the entire audience began singing Hatikvah and the applause that followed lasted for several minutes. I hope this happens in the theatres. Helen Mirren is certainly made to look like Golda, that I had shivers going up and down my back! Except for voice, (impossible to duplicate), she looks, dresses and walks like Golda!! Another Academy Award, that is if Barbie doesn't take it!!! Never can predict the Academy voters, some of whom are outspoken antisemitics/antiisrael.

here are the facts, Sadat asked nicely to get back sinai (before 1973 war) , Israel refused and after israel lost 1973 war, egypt had a strong negotiation position and israel had no choice but to give back sinai. (despite it's importance as a buffer zone).
Egypt was able to do the most important things, to control suez canal and to destroy bar lev line and shock israel. objective was done and egypt's negotation position was better than israel's position. this served them in the negotiation process and let them get back sinai.
syria didn't get back golan, and even if the current al assad wanted to do a peace deal with israel, israel would never give back sinai because he is weak now. Israel never give back terrtories just for the sake of it. no one does.

Theoretically, Egypt had 2/3 of army & moves to make but eventually a ceasefire agreement ended the war.
In terms of objective of the liberation war, 2 years earlier the rejected El Sadat Peace Plan 1971 was about Peace deal on condition of respecting International Law and Internationally recognized Borders (including 2-state-solution in Palestine-Israel).
But the real Golda rejected and kept expanding the illegal settlement including 12x in Sinai and Mose Dayan publicly said “Better to have NO PEACE” than to withdraw from illegal settlements.
Well turns out, only thru ICJ case in which Egypt won, UN/International pressure (but US usually solo-vetoes any UN peace resolutions “to make Israel safer”-nonsense & allowed the settlement expansion which eventually triggered the war) & finally a Liberation war,
The 12x illegal settlements of Sinai were evacuated & withdrawn… (but for Golan & Palestinian Territories are still under internationally recognized illegal occupation.)
