Agree it is a lynchpin for sure. All of the 'Undead' mobs are neutral to Spirit Damage, so combined with blunt makes Frostner such good Swamp Farming weapon.
Well it's true there's many broken items that are based on the swamp biome, but there is one hidden gem that comes from a very surprising biome. Fire arrows, arguably from the meadows (wood, feathers and resin can all be found in Meadows). Just how many enemies and bosses are weak to fire?
The most easiest way to kill Abomination,is using the surtling itself just lure him above the fire thingy and then parry em a couple times its guaranteed death in a couple second
The abomination was super cool to see for the first time. I was not expecting it at all. Seems to be an unpopular opinion but the swamp was my favourite biome to explore for the first time and Bonemass was a great fight. The only boss that I didn't use a bow to defeat.
The abomination is super cool. I remember playing Valheim before the Abomination was added. When I came back a year later not knowing they added abominations it was a hell of shock! That's fair, I think every biome has there merits but I think its totally unpopular opinion you have!
The swamp is definitely my favourite biome. At high level it still scares me. It's got so much character, it's so dark and ominous. Everything about it makes you feel like you need to get out
Its definitely a scary place that makes me not want to spend much time in it. Vision is impaired, movement is impaired, regeneration is impaired. Its tough. Especially at the beginning. I also agree with the fact that most bosses are better fought with a bow/distance . I do like a bit of clobbering. There is not enough of that with bosses. So bone mass is a welcomed sight as a boss.
The swamp is still IMO the best designed biome. It has a learning curve but once you understand it, it's quite simple to traverse. It also has some of the most balanced enemies for it's progression tier out of any of the biomes, it also has a plethora of new items. Still to this day my favorite biome in Valheim.
This video is SUPER helpful. I appreciate that instead of showing off glitches/exploits/ai-quirks, you’re giving honest advice that makes use of intended mechanics. I didn’t realize the root mask works like a gas mask, that’s awesome and I’ll definitely need to get one now for swamp exploration
i think they should change the root armor so you only get the pierce resist if you wear all three pieces as a set bonus, and then give a different effect to the chest piece. A single piece of LIGHT armor shouldn't have such a huge impact on incoming damage
As much as I like the ability to mix and match gear... you're probably right about the harneks. Its just too good for being a single piece of light armor
Thanks man. I try to put some kind of spin on these educational videos to spice them up. You're very kind about the thumbnail, I think I can do better :p
Funny that you recommend the mace in the video and most of the footages is with a spear?!? No mention of the Stagbreaker? Stagbreaker is OP in the crypts. Kill all Draugr and Blobs and spawners through the walls. Jump up on a crypt and pound an Abomination with it! Abominations can’t attack upwards. Build an earth platform and own Bonemass with the Stagbreaker!
Yeah i learned from experience that the spear is NOT it haha. Its a lot of footage from an older playthrough. Do as I say not as I do :P I'll have to give the old stag a better look. I haven't played with the big hammers a whole lot. I've always been a player that prefers mobility.
The easiest way to kill an abomination is by dragging it/making it follow you to a surt geyser and parking it on top of it. Second easiest is to place a bonfire, then again drag and park, but you will need to rebuild the bonfire a few times. Third easiest (and safest) is to jump on top of a crypt and chop the abomination with an axe. Also, once the swamp has been cleared and you're ready to leave a particular swamp forever, set up the geysers with portals for a coal run so you never need a kiln again. Also also, if you're the type of player who works in multiple biomes at the same time, a fully upgraded Frostner takes out Bonemass in just a couple of minutes.
Great comment. I agree. Great strategy for taking care of abominations. I've heard of building a geyser farm too. I'll have to look up a little more detail on how exactly to construct it
@SpazzyjonesGaming It's pretty easy. Just stand below the water line next to the geyser and use your hoe to lower the ground. If the mound is too high for the hoe to level out below the water line, finish it up with a pickaxe. Just make sure all the land around the geyser is below water level. After that, it's all up to you - go low tech (build a wood fence around the geyser area and put your portals on a stone floor tile) or high tech (I build an enclosed stone wall and tile run, but it costs 1300 to 1500 stone per run.) I would refer you to my video on making a surt run, but I haven't made one. 😁
Great tip! I'm thinking of doing an advanced tips video in the future and I think this tip would 100% fit the bill for the video. I'll have to do some research myself on how best to tackle it@@dunrobin26
I found that just shooting it with fire arrows even early on is fairly fast and easy to take down. All the trees really mess with its pathing and if you find a clump of 2 / 3 of the indestructible trees, you can kite endlessly around it while keeping it always on fire. Total cost is around 30~50 fire arrows with the finewood bow. I also make sure to bring the hoe to keep the terrain in the kite area flat and out of the water. I think the geyser strat sounds pretty cool, but sadly not applicable to everyone as Ive ventured through 3 full large swamp areas and haven't found a single one. Unlucky perhaps.
Yeah they really aren't as dangerous as you think. pretty easy to keep them at a distance and as you said, slowly take them down with arrows.@@Myselfsama
I think it's fine, they ramp up the difficulty massively from black forest to swamp, and in exchange players get MASSIVE boosts, its kinda like the devs said "See this biome? It only gets worse, now get this OP shit and good luck"
You can avoid almost all of the poison by applying 3 strategies in the swamp. 1.Only ever fight an oozer or blob with a bow and arrows. 2. When fighting a leech use a mace and position yourself at the right distance. Press your alternate attack button which is default to middle mouse and your character will move slightly further with the attack. Knocking the leech back. Step backwards if it does not die in one hit and it will come back for a second hit. You can also use a 2 hander with more range if you want. 3. When going through the crypts. Mine out only one side of the mass and shoot anything that moves with a bow until the room is clear. You can also shoot most of the spawnera if they arent around the corner. Doing this you can clear the swamp without using poison resist mead.
Wise words! Yeah, keep your distance at all times. I agree with everything you said and generally try to follow these strategies. The worst is when you enter a crypt and you're unlucky to have a blob spawn in the first room (not behind the masses blocking the passageways). In this scenario there's little room to keep your space. Thanks for passing on your wisdom!
