- Mercedes loves convertibles so much they make more than any two luxury companies combined. As a result they have rag-tops that have no natural competition like the E400 that dropped by for a week.

Building convertibles makes you better. Practice makes perfect. Kudos to the Benz ......
I'm not even interested in this car but am still watching. You're the best car reviewer out there and I enjoy watching you. Better than anything about car reviews on TV. Thanks Alex for your excellent and knowledgeable reviews. You raised the bar for unbiased and thorough reviews.
I guess it's pretty off topic but do anyone know of a good place to watch newly released tv shows online?
@Ashton Langston try FlixZone. Just search on google for it :)
@Ashton Langston try FlixZone. You can find it on google =)
My neighbor has always driven mid-sized sedans typically from mainstream brands like Toyota, Kia, etc. about 4 years ago they bought an E-class and 1 year ago bought a new E-Class. This year they kept their E-class sedan and also purchased an E-Class convertible with red leather interior! It’s their favorite car they’ve ever had. I think this car is very unique in size and versatility because their family of 4 fits perfectly!
Hey Alex just wanted to thank you for noticing and mentioning the changes on the US spec taillights and rear bumper (And I'm glad you seem to hate them as much as I do). No other journalist does and it needs to change! US cars should be the same as those in the EU.. the regulations that cause these just don't make sense.
Those weird lumps on the back really are an odd design choice. The EU version looks so much better from the back. And of course, yes, we have correctly-coloured indicators. :p
Dude your review is top notch and very complete. I didn't realize I watch until the end
Thanks for the exclusive trunk comfort score.
Stark Parker if this is a 4, what is a 2 or 1?
JC4 good point. We need some graphs or a spreadsheet or something.
Alex I really liked all the photos at the end as you spoke. More the better as these were informative as well.
There is no car reviewer better than Alex. I am thinking of getting a used E-class cabrio and I immediately look for a review by Alex. He is thorough and insightful and you get a class on the operation of the car should you purchase one.
Superbly engineered car. So many features specifically designed for convertibles like the Air Scarf, front and rear wind deflectors. Could have mentioned the popup roll protection from the safety angle.
You are on the top of my reviews lists now. I enjoyed the E400 Cabrio reiviews, but particularly because of your overlay of the base model costs, and then the Premium 1, 2, or 3 option package costs and the list of inclusions at each step. Well organized! That's important because I want to know what I'm going to have to spend at each model to get just what I want, and if I'm shopping for a used vehicle I want know which package the original buyer ordered. Nice job. ..Convertibles are essentials of summer, and Mercedes does it right. Love the 400 series motor too. Oh yes, ... the luggage fit segment is good too. We've got an SLK (that we love)... it's barely enough trunk for a weekend for two, and your reviews will help us make the decision when we trade up .
I love that you mentioned your association between Mercedes and windshield wipers. I had a similar fascination when I was young. I remember the 1986 300E with its single articulating wiper, and I thought it was the neatest thing.
Oh, that wiper!❤
absolutely love it! ...just wish MB would give the option for traditional grill and star on the bonnet
I like this kind of review I will follow you, great job. The E class cabrio is my favourite car right now. If anything, as most convertible car owners I guess would agree, I would like to see more top up images and less top down. Thank you.
Really comprehensive, thanks!
Great review Alex!! I love how you went in depth into the practicality of the vehicle despite it being a convertible. Most other reviews would be like "nah, nobody will use the backseats or trunk that much, so I won't bother." You didn't though, and I appreciate that.
Excellent job Alex!
Superb review. Great attention to detail!
Excellent review!
I like your choice of music on the infotainment screen
Great review as always, Alex! Have been waiting for your take as I'd love to order one and take European delivery. As long as I'm dreaming, I'd bring it home and park it next to my, (safe and practical), European Delivery V90 Inscription ... btw, you live in one of the prettiest places in the country!
Great review, very thorough!
Excellent analysis!
Hey Alex, those extensions on the rear bumper are there in accordance to safety regulations in the US. You may want to look it up. The Bugatti Chiron has them as well.
Awesome review! I’m subbed
The one we looked at yesterday did not have a digital display for the gauges, they were regular round tach and speedo gauges.
Alex and the appropriate tunes 😂
So much to go wrong over time at very high cost.
Great info - I'm a tall & big guy and trying to potentially go with a 2017 or 2018 E 400 convertible but not sure which one. I need to have leg and head room...
One of the benefits of not capitalising every word in a title / thumbnail title is that is avoids confusion. E.g. ‘A Class’
He said convertible 25 times in the first 2 minutes...
Brad C
That makes 9.....saturnalia no wonder his channel is a success.
Count how many times he says " in America"
Can you tell me how many times in the entire video?
Can you do the best review like him ?
That's more convertibles than Acura's combined portfolio of sedans and SUVs.
The boys and I did a "Convertible Shot Challenge"...
....by 1:50, there were no survivors
Nice video. My 2 cents on Mercedes... the greatest car maker in the world.
Love the channel. Here’s a thought for you, and perhaps car makers and how you talk about seat adjustments. I would argue that, in this case, a four way adjustable head rest is actually a two way adjustable head rest. Is it going to go up, but not not down? Forward, but not back? Of course not. Up and down is one adjustment; forward and back, a second one. I know I’m being really nit picking here. But for some reason it bothers me. Carry on with the great reviews.
The S5 Is direct competition to thus car!
Maybe I missed it - where is the shift lever? Great review, Alex!
I wish you'd done a review like this of the Jaguar XK / XKR. They're gorgeous (but dated in some ways now of course), and I'm wondering how you think they'd stack up.
Hi Alex. Please consider adding a category of depreciation in your ratings.
When is E53 convertible coming
On another note, all the E400 Cab press cars I've seen have been in such drab color combinations. Wonder why they don't show off some of the nicer colors that they show in press photos?
The E 400 is more relaxing and price range with additions is pretty reasonable
Alex
Was this test ride on Run Flats? Do you think that would have affected the ride score?
like the car, but not the color. great review as always
Great review! I think convertibles are cool, but I'd prefer my car (with a sunroof). A normal sedan is much more practical for those of us who live in snowy climates.
How much is the one you tested???
First MB and convertible that I am interested in......😮
Alex on Autos
FIRST! of course YT is shadow banning all my comments that AREN'T responses to other comments.
Mercedes understands Beverly Hills. That's why there are so many convertibles.
My 1997 BMW has the same wiper articulation.
First 2 minutes I heard *"convertible"* 24 times
I thought I was the only one nerdy enough to notice MB's odd windshield wipers...HELLO MY PEOPLE...
Is this current gen E class convertible still based on the C class platform (just like the previous gen E class convertible)?
No it's based on the E Class platform.
With the hybrid battery in the next model the trunk will not fit Alex or even 1/2 an Alex
The 90s called, they want their intro music back
Yes there are convertibles with stiffness surpassing an ordinary coupe. Supercars like the Ferrari 488 Huracan roadster Porsche 918 Bugatti Veyron will beat any normal coupe/limousine.
no wonder these are very popular
I own one thank you
Does the Buick cascada compete with this?
Just a quick note - the audio brand is called "Burmester", not "Burmeister" :-) www.burmester.de/en/automotive/mercedes-benz/
Are there plans to review an E400 Wagon? Wife and I are torn between that and the Volvo V90 (non CC)
Alexander Schlesinger would go with e400. Probably pricier but v6 is smoother, the gearbox is generally said to be better and imo better interipr. Driven both with 2 liter diesels, e class alot nicer and quieter
If you want something different and with more class, (and safer), get the Volvo. If you want to blend in, get the Mercedes.
Looks wise, V90 is a class of one ... just stunning!
None of the current MB convertibles have adequate rear passenger room. In that sense, they are just one car line of fat of 2 seaters with an slightly more or less uncomfortable back seat.
Nothing matches the room of an E class sedan back seat.
At 15:55 - 16:55... I just can't see having a car with a 100% LCD display. Too many cars these days are tied to electronics. If one thing goes wrong, ALL THINGS go wrong.
What about the BMW 6-series convertible??
It no longer exists.
Convertible convertible convertible...Ok we get it convertible
you can get this convertible with 3 chamber airsuspension. :o
Wow, that house has a lot of garbage at 21:36.
lol !
Did not drive Cabriolet but the new E400 coupe is a bit slower than the old one, WTF?
👍🚘👍🚘👍🚘👍🚘
CONVERTIBLE CONVERTIBLE
16 mpg
Rich people don't have android phones?
Elon musk got high and said that he invented convertibles, but wont let Tesla build one, but after he goes to Mars, it's on to Jupiter
Hey, the Best Or Nothing!
Nice ride but an arm and a leg expensive to maintain.
Have the maintenance prices gone down in the last 10 years? I just think back when I took the US Army’s S500 in because the digital display went out after 2 years, 1 week of having it. Of course, it was not under warranty as I was in Germany and this car only had a 2 year warranty. Outside of that, it was great driving car!!!
The uncarpeted trunk lid irritates me….no car that expensive should have exposed insides like that
Shame, Alex. The song displayed should be Janis Joplin's "Lord, Won't You Buy Me a Mercedes Benz."
ua-cam.com/video/XXZAm2NlMEE/v-deo.html
Anyone else think this was going to be an “A class” because of the thumbnail?
I think they look too similar, given the price differences.
The tall flat nose and high body sides make it look shorter, cheaper, and less expensive than it is. Looks like a cough drop.
tell us how tall are you Mr Alex lmao
Please use metric system like 95% of the world :D
Bro clearly don't know what car brands have a convertible
If he says convertible one more time
Convertible
Convertible convertible convertible convertible
Bro you say convertible about 200 times…. Jajaj
Attractive front and rear design, but from the side looks rather plain.
Germans always liked convertibles. Even during ww2, many office staff cars were convertibles and hitlers car was a convertible. Odd.
Or get a low mileage clk63 for 20k and Kill this and the new e450 as well...
To get to the next Stoplight 2 secs sooner? But no convertible? Lol
To drive a convertible, you have to live in a civilized community where someone will not cut up your drop top just out of spite. Convertibles used to be popular in the US decades ago because you could find places like that, but with the changing demographics it is becoming difficult these days.
The underside of the trunk lid looks unfinished and very uncharacteristic of a luxury car...surprised Mercedes forgot that detail.
Full of “sheet”!!!!
