Grimes Breaks Down Her Albums, From Geidi Primes to Miss Anthropocene | On the Records | Pitchfork
Her roommate was probably like, "Yeah my roommate is a psycho but I can't let her die, so I leave her food every day."
Hahaha 😂
"sir that's my emotional support insane reclusive roommate"
Lol
“Yeah, my roommate is more like a pet that pays half my rent.”

Grimes seems so chaotic but so intelligent and well read and I'm honestly so here for it
She was in college to study brain stuff so definitely intelligent
She sounds like an idiot... she's trying so hard, to be edgy, and artsy, but, she sucks. I also, don't get, why she acts like a child.
agreed
Good to know that you're honestly so here for it, sure she's pleased too
evenstar04 she has an undergrad in neuroscience so doubt she’s an idiot...
She’s a 32 year old that looks 16 and has the voice of like a 10 year old and talks like a philosopher.
It's like anime
A philosopher that says "Like" a lot.
Lol you need to find some better philosophers to listen to
@@Christopher-md7tf 🤣🤣🤣👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Yes, because philosophers use the word “Like” in every sentence 🤦♀️
"I actually forgot I made this"
She casually just dropped this sentence.
Like, oh yeah I made this 👁👄👁
That just made me love her so much more
Yea right
@@alisonnorcross951 bro its called a quote
Maybe that’s why she’s lasting so long with Elon
"I think i would actually finish them"
This needs to be a reoccurring thing. I wanna hear more artist break down their albums
Karl Keyes so true !! It is really cool and enlightening content !!
Yes this is really insightful
Yes!!!
Animal Collective please
agree and also it’s “their”
Grimes is like a walking encyclopedia of avant garde art, literature, surrealism, sci fi, anime/manga and so much more. I just love her mind.
thedivineparagon whoa ! You said it perfectly !!
not really
well you may think that, but she got the word anthropocene wrong, cause it´s a name of a whole epoch since people started having an impact on earth and she limited its meaning just to climate change which is kinda wrong
not hating, just pointing out a mistake, i love her anyway
which basically sums up what being autistic means. cue special interests and infodumping. no coincidence in her case.
I feel like if Grimes and Aurora had a conversation it would be the deepest yet most confusing event known to man.
OMG that is so trueeeee....weirdly I am down xddd
@Infernal Moondance wow not just a hate spammer but misogynistic too in ur other comments... fr get a life
I want to see that 😂
Lmaoooo
lmaoo please make it happen
I want Grimes to make an open-world video game based off her album concepts.
Isn't that Cyberpunk video game?
@@micaelaclifford2729 if only 😂

I love the fact that she's considered to be one of the most creative and visionary indie artists and in this video she's literally like "So I was bashing a watermelon on a coffin because my lower back was itching and this is how this album happened" I love her haha
Modern Indie
When does she say that?? I didn't notice
THE WAY IN WHICH I LAUGHED
Oh my sweet Jesus I can’t live anymore,..this comment literally killed me🤣💜 #concur
honestly though if she said something like that i’d believe her because she is just so bizarre. love her though
Ive literally never listened to a Grimes song why am I watching this
Jake Smith you’re not missing anything. she’s saying it herself.
i don’t listen to her music either but i’ve watched multiple interviews, i just like to hear her speak
You are missing out. She is one of my favourite artists.
Because you need to get some taste
I have not heard of her before this week🤦
grimes: "your whole life goes into making an album"
also grimes: "idk i just went to halifax for a vacation"
Grimes, staring at the camera: "Yeah... Sandy threw them out I think"
I *felt* that stare haha
Same lmao 😂 called her by her name too.
I'm surprised she hasn't written a comic or a book or a movie or something like that
She’s actually writing a novel
she's writing a sci-fi young adult novel
She's said before she hates when people try to ghost write for her. But she did make an intro to a Netflix cartoon.
Pretty sure she's got her plate full with the whole music thing. There's still years to come
Eric which one?
She’s sooooo genuinely unique... like you can tell she’s not just faking it. She’s actually a unique person, what’s known to the general public as a weirdo. I love her sooooo much ❤️
How do I fake uniqueness?

Listened to it for the first time yesterday, it was beautiful
Her musical references and inspirations are so varied; ugh she’s so cool
Lmao I love how she says “my roommate’s apartment” like it’s not also her apartment
I think she meant his room. It stuck out to me too. She said something like "I went up to my roommate's apartment."
Maybe he owned it and she lived with him?
Musicians and artists definitely crash peoples places and don’t necessarily pay rent. possibly what she did 🤷🏻♀️

Lol me when I listen to Elon Musk. Her too apparently though
she is a walking glitch in the matrix
Haha exactly

I always giggle while I watch her interviews. She's just so funny unintentionally. Somewhere between "I stumbled into this" and "I masterminded this" there is Grimes. xo Grimes

Can we talk about how she said Miss Anthropocene is the album she wanted to make her whole life but she just needed more experience and now it's out meaning she thinks she's able to do exactly what she always wanted to do creatively now?? That is absolute goals. I'm so happy for her progress & growth!!
Wow that must be such a great feeling.
Too bad miss a sucks tho
@@_zoehhhhh that's your opinion and CLEARLY not a general feeling towards the album

@@duart33 not really generally the album was taken negatively by most of grimes's long time fanbase
geidi primes is like my all time favorite album. it inspired me to try and make my own music, not like in a "i wanna be a musician" way, but like for the same reason you draw little doodles on homework assignments, yk? it's art for yourself, not for other people
last sentence is deep lol
I love her. She makes me feel like it's ok to be myself.
"Albums are your whole life"
"This album was about eatin' chips in Halifax"
It's seriously her deepest and more inventive/creative/original/underrated album. She's just joking at this point
How many artists can say they write, produce, and create the album art for their music? She says it so nonchalantly, but that's kind of a big deal.
Millions of artists who are not rich and famous (yet) do everything themselves.
But her music isnt music anyone can make noise sound nice. She literally said her lyrics mean nothing
Pickle Sandwiches her music is awful
Pickle Sandwiches how can you call it music
Pickle Sandwiches because I have a set of ears
I haven't been a fan for that long, but boy. This girl. This is insanely cool to me. And So Heavy I Fell Through The Earth is literally one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. This latest album FEELS the way she described it: the album she's wanted to make her whole life. So cool.
Halfaxa is tragedically underrated. Her best album by far imo
How is she in her thirties?? She looks like a teenager
she’s WHAT??
she just turned 32
aint nothing crazy about that
I thought she was mid 40's, doin that Madonna thing.
_wait,_ WHAT
Yeah for real!! I think it's a mix of having a "soft" sort of face as well as her style. If someone told me she was my age (22) I wouldn't question them - and I often think that actual 22 year olds look older than me, lol
I love how she makes things because she wants to, there's no contrived intellectual reason for creative choices - she just makes up words + has fun with it
Art Angels was 1000% her best album, still bump it all the time now
Miss anthropocene is easily one of the albums of my life, the song 'my name is dark' messed with my head in such a chaotic way that i just can't hate it, also 4ÆM owns my heart as well
Can you imagine for your mid life crisis you date Grimes and go to mars.

The fact that Grimes says Dune is her favorite book, and I associate Grimes with Dune due to when I discovered her music, is just so amazing and comforting to me. It’s like it was meant for me to have the association 😍
this is the first time I truly noticed her lisp.
It's quite endearing. She is endearing throughout the interview. She's so weird and dorky and I meant that as a compliment.
Yes!! I love her voice and the way she talks she is so unique and perfect!
wow its mch less pronounced in this than prior interviews, i was thinking the whole time that its gone lol
Grimes is sneaky-smart... One tends to make value judgments then soon realizes the depth of her intelligence and musical skill. She's quite endearing. Enjoyed that. Thx.
SNEAKY GENIUS.
(FTFY)
She got that INCOGNITO INTELLIGENCE
Where is it ??
Very well said
:'(
when she said "...I wanted to go insane, like, i was like, i should just do everything i can possibly do to go insane... probly lead to something, good?" I laughed and shot coffee out of my nose mid drink. i will be forever grateful for that. a real life artist, how refreshing.
"I actually, like... took a picture of myself... painting my boob, with my phone, and then traced it and made it fancy." It was already fancy Claire. It was already fancy.
I actually understand her and Elon Musk as a couple. He’s trying to colonise Mars, and she’s like a space pixie. A weird and wonderful match.
Dee Dee Now their baby is a jet plane
Vi Haze how about how elon is trying to merge the human body with AI technology and she has a album title with a word that means to hate humans
Vi Haze I rlly like them together. they both are obsessed with A.I taking over the world
Vi Haze I don’t. I thought she was supposed to be an anti-imperialist...

Miss anthropocene is fantastic. Grimes has a cute personality!
Even if she hates being called cute, I think so too!
@@AlonsoMontero I always thought she hated when people say her lisp is cute. I didn't know she hated when people says SHE is cute 😳
@@carolhopkinson3470 she is so beautiful! i understand though, no matter how pretty people think you are, your own view of yourself is the one that truly matters.
Alonso Montero why does she hates being called cute
It's like not even Grimes can understand Grimes, but somehow everything randomly works really well
What hits me the hardest is that she can just create music as a feeling based on what she likes or things that has happened to her. That's what makes her music so interpretive and special for me, like I can't relate to or feel a lot of music due to it's lyrics or like the feeling of it (if that makes sense), but hers just kinda "exists" and it's beautiful and you feel it and can turn it into whatever you want in your mind, that's something I needed and love so much!
She should talk much more about Halfaxa! that album is a truly masterpiece
my favorite album!!
Perioddd
Absolutely right
Never heard it! I’m gonna have to check it iut
She didn't have much to do with it, she's not even singing for most of it lol.
Visions is my favorite. I still blast Genesis.
Genesis is among the top ten songs of the decade tbh
Same. All three of her last albums still slap to this day. Oblivion is still one of my favorite songs of all time.
Totally get it. If I could chose one song to listen to for the rest of my life it might be that one.
Jessica Kristensen I wish I was a luciferian witch

When Art Angels came out I didn't know what to think of it, now it's my favorite of hers. Every song on that album is a hit.
I can’t stop watching this video over and over, like her thought process is addictive to listen to
“Sandy threw them out” LOL
my favorite part.
I was waiting for someone to comment this her face when she said that was hilarious LMAOAAO
you can tell her mind is so complex and has so many different thoughts and it’s hard for her to just pick and choose which ones she speaks. she’s seriously so intelligent
OK I have to look up her birthday now whatever it says I won't be surprised but of course I'll be stoked and I feel like she's probably similar to some thing like me gem and I haha gemini
Right, imagine if she wrote a book I’d definitely buy it.
I think that she has Aspergers as well as Elon. But it's not a bad thing though
I love her but these kind of comments when people adore how chaotic she is make me bit upset. Cos when a person that didn’t make it big acts this way, society points fingers and makes them feel like losers BECAUSE of the way they are

Halfaxa, for me, is her best one. So ethereal, experimental and full of weird-pretty noises all around there. Masterpiece! GRANDE CLAIRE BOUCHER
I like Visions more than Halfaxa but Halfaxa is still my second favorite. While I like Miss anthropocene and Art Angels, I think her "low budget" albums had some magic the newer ones don't really get to capture.
For me:
1ºHalfaxa
2ºMiss Anthropocene
3ºVisions

Agreed
Her music isn't for me but i'm glad i watched this, she's a very unique personality, my typical perspective would love to classify her as "weird" and leave it at that but she surely deserves a more elaborate term as she is clearly very systematic and really embraces the fluidity of just being a human, and theres nothing weird about that, in fact i wish most of us were like her when it comes to being an individual and having an identity, too many of us modeling ourselves after others and popular culture and ultimately doing a disservice to ourselves..Keep on being you Grimes.
I agree. I actually loathe her music but appreciate her as a part of pop culture. With so many poor female role models she is a breath of fresh air. I appreciate that she rocks out with her own style and hasn't been groomed to be a leggings and high ponytail with weirdly shaped fingernails clone. I'm so sick of seeing people follow the rules and copycat each other.
What if I told you that’s how ALL “weird” people are, it’s just about your perspective?
