I can't stand it, lol. I absolutely love this song, but despite all of the great actors and actresses, and even with Tim Curry totally killin it, like usual, both the direction and the story just annoy me. :D
Magenta is such an underrated chatacter, she seems so divorced from the insecurities of the other characters, even her brothers, and is generally chaotic for the sake of being chaotic. I wish we saw more of her. Plus her makeup and hair are so cool
She's possibly my favorite. I think her iconic attitude is because she's so sick of Frank's crap, the tedium of the constant hedonism, and you're right-- she's a lot braver than Riff Raff when it comes to actually standing up to Frankenfurter. I love when she gets in his grill and then after he tries to manipulate her, she goes, "I ASK FOR NOTHING...master". She's such a badass.
Awesome bit of music theory in this song: the chord progression during "Let's do the Time Warp again!" is a reversal of the usual pattern that chords tend to follow. Most chord progressions tend to do what's called "falling in fifths" or some variation of that pattern, but this song rises in fifths through that hook. It's literally a backwards 'Time Warp' of what your ears expect to hear 🫠
I'm a pianist/accompanist and someone brought this music to audition years ago. Of course I knew of the song but I never played it. After spending about a half hour on a piece I am unfamiliar with, I usually would get down. But this song tripped me out so much because I couldn't anticipate the next chord. It goes from A6, to B6, to G and then D for the verses So it uses chromatic mediants. I had to ask the person to come back at the end of the day so I could play it for them. Thr chorus is not so unconventional, though. I successfully accompanied the person on this song, but I obsessed on it for a good few days because the progression was so unconventional. Usually the Rock n' Roll progression is a typical vi-ii-V-I or some type of variation of those chords. But the use of borrowed chords is very classical-like. Kudos to Richard O'Brien.
@Xxd3cayxX Oh yeah, definitely done intentionally! When you fall in fourths (or rise in fifths, you land on the same note either way), it's called a Plagal Cadence; doing it over and over again is called an Extended Plagal Progression. It's a very subjective thing, but generally speaking, falling in fifths (the traditional progression I mentioned in the original comment called a Perfect Cadence) sounds like a deflation of tension, or a way of returning to your home chord. It's a darkening sound, not in the sad kind of way, but in that it relieves anticipation 😉 Plagal Cadences, on the other hand, do the opposite. They sound like they're carrying you away from home and elevating the musical tension. It's a very direct way to really ramp up energy really quickly. Extended Plagal Cadences also tend to take you out of the key of the song way faster than Perfect Cadences, so you end up landing in very novel sounding places, which adds to that energetic intrigue.
I saw this narrator in Wolverhampton in the 60 or 70's live drama& he was brilliant as he recalled the enchanting legend of RHPS in Shakesperian/Dickensian quality.
Interestingly, the narrator (Charles Gray) played Ernst Stavro Blofeld in the James Bond movie Diamonds are Forever. Meaning that you can now imagine Bond trying to kill Blofeld and he finds him doing the time warp dance.
@@samjones7834 The time warp (dance et al) is Blofeld's way of alternating his personal identity, so that he can likely find relative safety from the potentially pursuing James Bond. Seeing them perform this on "Glee" made me appreciate what an incredible performance the original was. The energy, excitement, and enthusiasm of everyone in it is infectious. Even the expressions on the dancer's faces was full of joy.
Star Child that’s Charles Grey, a Veteran character actor known for playing sinister villains and smooth psychopaths. He was still a pretty big name at the time this was filmed , so having him going for it would have been a shock and hilarious 😂

First time I saw this movie was some 40 years ago. I could not have been older than eleven or twelve when I found my big brother in the living room at 2 a.m., watching this. Now, with the wisdom of age, I can confirm: Time IS fleeting and madness DOES take it´s toll. ;)
Richard O'Brien, I feel like such a fool for not realizing him sooner! a few years ago as a student working at the local supermarket back home in the Bay, this man would often come through my checkout and share a few laughs with me, he introduced himself and was always so kind on greeting myself and the others, a genuine and kind soul. I had told him one day "You are so charismatic and full of character and magnetic energy, you should look into stage and film" to which he replied "What a marvelous idea my sweet!" hahahaha I feel like such an idiot now knowing who he is! What a superlative talent and what a wonderful soul.
Reading this has put the biggest grin on my face. And the great thing is you can just picture Richard O'Brien saying "What a marvellous idea my sweet". But i think in a way he would have been so happy that you didn't realise who he was but still saw the star that shone from within. Beautiful & priceless.
I remember one new years everyone came dressed up as a character from this and we all did the time warp. And the while road I live on joined in and we did it outside. God that was so fun

I was first introduced to RHPS by a friend of mine, who was volunteering to play Rocky at a local community theater. They had needed a sound person to queue up the songs and also play the few sounds that are throughout the performance during a live show. At first, just learning the few lines before each queue, to memorizing the whole show was an experience I'll always reminisce. I loved it all. The quirky sci-fi theme, filled with 'dynamic tension', all with a dark, gothic overhang that makes you wanting more more more. Just being there, day after day, syncing up lights with sounds and curtains, scene/stage changes, the actors/actresses finalizing their lines, songs and choreography, (especially the super-quick costume change from Planet Schmanet-Wise up Janet Weiss to the Floor Show) to finally seeing it all come together for 2 weekends, (6 shows total) was truly amazing and I am honored to have been able to play a role in reenacting the movie for others to see. It wasn't till after those two weeks of the show, that I had even seen the film before. Which blew my expectations out of the water. Forever a fan and I am definitely going to volunteer again next year to run sound (assuming that they will do it again around Halloween), if I not auditioning for Eddy/Dr. Scott.
Why do I love this song so much??? My first time watching RHPS and I was like 'what the f am I watching?' But now, suddenly I can't stop singing Time Warp! Aaahh what's going on?!?
I grew up with this movie and I still like it. I’m 15 now and my dad was the manager of this movie theater when I was 1-6 years old. I remember every once in a while they would play this movie in the theater and there would be people that dressed up and did the dance to this song. Everyone would also do that thing where you talk to the screen like answer a question or ask a question at those parts. It was kinda fun even tho I didn’t understand some parts bc I was too young to understand. Sadly the closed Down the theatre to turn it into a school and my dad started working at a new movie theater but they don’t have this movie showing anymore.
I saw and heard Rocky Horror for the absolute first time last nite at midnight at a theatre showing. At first, I was caught off guard by everything, but I can safely say I absolutely loved every bit of the experience
I wish they still showed this film in theaters on Friday/Saturday nights at midnight. I loved it and the audience members who dressed up and acted and sang along was amazing!!!

Me and my brother and sister have this tradition of watching Rocky Horror every Halloween. Seeing them do the Time Warp is the highlight of my year

My favorite part: when the formal dance instructor pulls down the shade with a diagram showing the proper placement of your feet. He studies it closely for a moment, points his pointer at the shoes, turns to us and proclaims "Its just a jump...to the LEFT" Gets me every time!
Hard to believe Richard O’Brien wrote this song just as a filler and did not plan for it to b a big hit and yet most ppl would say this is their fave song from the entire musical

This song never gets old for me. Such a beloved classic.
When I was growing up in Cambridge, MA this movie would be the midnight show every weekend and all the goth, queer and weirdo kids would dress up and singalong. I went once, it was NUTS, they were throwing rice at the screen during the wedding

The Choreography for the extras was godly in this film.
Those are the most extra extras that have ever been featured in film.
The film is 45 years old, so those extras doing the time warp would be around 70 now. Just imagine if your grandparents let slip they were an extra doing the time warp! 😀
I love how it looks like they are actually having fun

Such a lot of energy, enthusiasm and fun.
Saw this on stage for the first time last night and it was awesome.
I have never seen an audience so up for a performance before. Absolute carnage, absolute joy, probably the most fun I’ve ever had at the theatre.
"Like you're under sedaaaaation!" That part always cracks me up 😂
Yep. And when I hear some form of that phrase, the song comes to mind.
Same especially when Janet thaighnts cause of it
First time I seen Columbia I was literally like oh damn shes stunning and then Tim dropped his cape I was in complete awe come to think of it I came out bisexual a week later Haha
Personally, she reminds me of Harley Quinn from Batman.
No no NO!!!! IT'S OK TO LIKE TIM CURRY IN THE FILM, BUT YOU FUCK PUSSY!!
Both Lil Nell and Tim were gorgeous in the film (and not too bad in real life either!)
i love how out of ALL the things that happen throughout the course of the film, this is the thing that Janet is so shocked by she faints twice

The song is fantastic but the addition of Charles Gray makes it iconic. Every time they cut to his demonstrations, it’s absolutely hilarious.
He’s played Blofeld in Bond films and was a well-known horror movie villain
To see the normally staid actor going for it on the table would have been an hilarious shock 😮
Seeing them perform this on "Glee" made me appreciate what an incredible performance the original was. The energy, excitement, and enthusiasm of everyone in it is infectious. Even the expressions on the dancer's faces was full of joy.
Me: "Teacher, may I go to the bathroom?"

That's a great story, where was this? Maybe you should go back and see if he still visits
next time you see him, start by greeting him this way - "It's astounding. Time is fleeting. Madness, takes it toll."
Reading this has put the biggest grin on my face. And the great thing is you can just picture Richard O'Brien saying "What a marvellous idea my sweet". But i think in a way he would have been so happy that you didn't realise who he was but still saw the star that shone from within. Beautiful & priceless.

Scott.
No matter how old you are, or what your orientation....You will always sing along to this classic !!! x

Sadly the closed
