We played this song at my auntie’s funeral since it was one of her favourite songs. She and my dad would always dance to it at weddings whenever they had the chance. It’s a strange song to play at a funeral, but I’ve never seen so many happy faces at a funeral. People started laughing as soon as they heard it because they knew it was her song. I think it just reminded everyone of how great my auntie was, she really was one of a kind, just like this song.
To say I grew up to this song is an understatement. My mom has a video of me dancing to this as a baby, in her arms, and pumping my little fist. I kept dancing to it whenever it came on the radio as a toddler. I learned the lyrics by heart around ten years old. I saw them in concert with my mom when I was around 15 years old and had a blast. I played it at my wedding and my mom and I dominated the dance floor. Nowadays, I have to stop everything that I'm doing to dance, sing, and truly appreciate this song for what it's worth! Love this band!

their voices do blend together so well. what I think makes the B-52s so good is that you hear they are having fun and that puts you in a good mood. I love deep serious bands like Radiohead too but when I'm in the mood to party I'd rather listen to Love Shack than Street Spirit. Music is a very emotional thing and I think depending on how you are feeling at the time you will want to hear different styles. It's like with movies. Comedy movies almost never win as many awards as heavy dramas but that doesn't mean they aren't artistically just as good

The thing that I love about the B-52s is that on all the recordings, videos, and even live, they seem to be having the most fun of anybody there, which really translates into the feel of their music. The entire album was another case of greatness coming out of tragedy. When original guitar/founder Ricky Wilson died of AIDS in 1986, that was it. The new guitarist who was the original drummer and Ricky's best friend, brought the band back together to start writing some new songs. They went to woodstock where they said many days they all just talked and was part of the healing process. What came of it was Cosmic Thing. Featuring other great songs like Dead Beat Club (one of my favorite songs of all time) Cosmic Thing, Channel Z, along with Roam and Love Shack. The album is a masterpiece and so uplifting.

That’s a nice mark of respect for him. These were a great band
Groove is in the heart, I feel, was really the last great 80's pop dance song. I know it wasn't released until 1990, but it clearly has that 80's style and was wrote and recorded in that decade. After that it was more songs more like snap's the power, or everybody dance now (cnc music factory), that style that kind of replaced that kind of music. I think it was called eurodance. Which I also dug, but I feel far more nostalgic for 80's pop than anything. I had to edit this because I mentioned a song that was actually from the 80's, buffalo stance by neneh cherry. Was released in 1988, but is a clear precursor to the 90's eurodance.
🤔I will always get the chills when they sing the part"Bang,Bang on the door Baby" when they start in a low tone to the final part of "BANG,BANG ON THE THE DOOR BABY!."😎💓
I heard The B-52’s a bunch as a kid but never actually looked up any of their music videos. I am blown away by how much the three singers *look* exactly as they sound. They all look exactly like I imagined. My mind is blown!
Music nerd here- all these years later I'm still impressed with how effortlessly these ladies nail both unison phrases and some pretty groovy harmonies, at nearly the same time. Not everyone can do that, I assure you! Great stuff, great memories!
One of the most enjoyable musical acts. They never let stardom change who they were. True originals writing some seminal songs, and having fun doing it.
Just occurs to me, the B-52s really book-ended the 80s - - Rock Lobster at the beginning, and Love Shack at the end, with tons of awesomeness in between.
Whoever came up with the B52s concept was a genius. Totally unique I can't even categorise their slightly goofy 50's look with an 80's sound. 'Rock Lobster' was almost other worldly.
She was pretty in this video cbut I never thought she looked in her 2o's in this video. I always thought she looked in her early forties in this video and it turned out she was lol. Can't fool me with good make up. And the extremely high bouffant hair ages anyone.
What I love about Fred, he doesn't hog the spotlight...he sits and waits for his parts...and then completely delivers completely becomes the WHOLE song...then fades back and let's the girls take over 💕💕
That's what I've always loved about them. One person can have a whole song, take turns, back the other, or hang back and dance. No egos. I also really respect Cindy for taking time off for family and the band supporting her. They're coming up on 45 years and still doing things together.
It definitely does have a unique vibe, but some stuff by independent artists today is just as good. We may never get the vibe of the 80s back, but a new vibe just as good exists.
I think why this song is so good and well done and unique because before they hit it big with this they were pretty much an underground band or at least was seen as such even though they were signed with a major label for a decade. They never buckled to their managements advice to be a certain way with their music. They always were weird, unique, knew what they were doing, and just plain fun. There is still nothing like this that has been released.
@@clamsclams wouldn't say so since the whole 80s revival aesthetic has been growing stronger and stronger over the last few years, especially on the internet
Love Shack and Roam have to be some of the most uplifting tunes ever. They never fail to change my brain for the better. Can’t thank these guys enough, really.

The world was introduced to Ru Paul at 2:05, and was never the same again! What a great song, and and great band. My sister has tickets to see their final tour this fall. I'm so jealous.
I mainly listen to rnb, hip hop, jazz and classical and for some odd reason this song popped into my head just as I was about to go to sleep the other night around 130am. Just random. This song had not been any commercials or radio or anything that I had seen or listened to ...amazing how the brain works
OMG. This song just popped up. I haven't heard this for absolute years. It is such a feelgood bop. I wanna go to the love shack too!!! It is one of those songs which, when you hear it, your toes start tapping.
Yea, seems so much fun to have a couple of close friends with you jammin and hanging out for a road trip, wish I had friends and the courage too do that 😂
Plus, you can clearly see they are enjoying themselves - it's not a dance that was practiced 10,000x times and became a chore - she really looks like she is just in the moment.Never noticed that 25 yrs ago :)
The 80s is endless. So much variety. I've been going through an 80s phase since 2014 and im still finding great stuff thats new to me. This song sounds somewhat modern but not in a bad way.
I'm a crippled up old man but when Love Shack comes up on my playlist, it makes me throw my arms up and dance in my chair. Thank you B-52's. And yeah, who doesn't have the hots for the red head. I once saw her on an episode of Victory Garden and was surprised how normal she was. I was expecting someone from Planet Claire.
She's capable of acting normal, but you see a whole different side to her on her Facebook page. That's what makes her so intriguing and entertaining. She can pull off the whole Jeckyll and Hyde act to a tee.
I randomly met this guy on a cruise ship in the 80’s. He watched me dance, and would invariably find me and ensure that he and I danced to this particular song together. He was a fantastic 🕺 guy and 💃 dancer, but that was our thing during the entire cruise ( I was with someone else who knew that I was a trained dancer and was drawn to it so it was cool). The crowd seemed to love us dancing together, but it was always this song that led him to find me and get things started. I cannot hear it without very fond memories of him and that cruise. 🎶❤️🎶
@@nanny287 jealous of what? You mentioned a fond memory of dancing to a song from 1989 in an early 80s cruise, it was funny to envision some insanely long cruise like the Life at Sea one that just got cancelled
@@blackearl7891 thank you!!!! Geeez, its as if this generation always wants the sound back, but only ask for it, if they want it, they could make themselves. Im slowly working to make music myself from instrumentals, songwriting and singing, hope to one day be huge
One of my earliest memories is legitimately being mesmerized when this came on MTV as the vocals and harmonies seemed so out of this world that I couldn't get enough. I'm fairly sure it got so bad that my older sister started hiding the remotes so I couldn't tune in to the channel anymore.
Will never forgot the roadtrips from GA to Fl with my family with my mom's cds of the classic hits of the 70's, 80's, and 90's. I definetly inherited my music taste from those cds. I still love songs like this, macho man, I will survive, What wont you do for love, and so many others. Love you Mom.
Fun and hilarious. Their energy just jumps out of the screen at you. This has to be one of the best music videos ever. Brilliant camera work and editing too. Love it.
Ahhhh the Summer of 89'...8 years old, going to Disney World for the first time, Bobby Brown blowing up the pop charts, ALF on tv in the evenings right after The Hogan Family...THIS video on MTV... And of course BATMAN!
We're the last of generation X, before the millennials ruined everything! Noone will understand low budget movies with big actors, like we do. A golden era, gone but not forgotten.

I swear everyone in this video looked like they were having the most fun ever. This song is just nothing but good vibes.
It was a good slice of the late 80s : )
It is a party in itself! Will be on repeat on my playlist I know
fun times
came here by rem shiny happy people !
bring yer jukebawks munny!
How can ANYONE be unhappy watching/hearing this? Love Shack has pulled me back from the edge of the abyss more times than I can say, it is MAGIC.
You're right. It's a can't lose feel good song, like so long ago.
And also listen to This Must Be The Place by the Talking Heads. Will start your day happy!!😀
Music nerd here- all these years later I'm still impressed with how effortlessly these ladies nail both unison phrases and some pretty groovy harmonies, at nearly the same time. Not everyone can do that, I assure you! Great stuff, great memories!
Those 2 girls' voices is what made this band amazing. The way they harmonized.
And then she made REM shinny happy people sound as good as it too.
He wrote alot of songs for people
This is what I imagine John Mulaney sounds like when he sings
Oh my word😂 Yessssss!!!!!
Darkus Smitty 🤣🤣🤣
Bahahahaha. Fuckin John mulaney. He’s the shizzzz. 🤣
I saw a tweet that said the same thing and I haven’t been able to function ever since
Bro😭
One of the most enjoyable musical acts. They never let stardom change who they were. True originals writing some seminal songs, and having fun doing it.
3:49 still so genius to hear ♥
Just occurs to me, the B-52s really book-ended the 80s - - Rock Lobster at the beginning, and Love Shack at the end, with tons of awesomeness in between.
the only thing good about the 80s.
Whoever came up with the B52s concept was a genius. Totally unique I can't even categorise their slightly goofy 50's look with an 80's sound. 'Rock Lobster' was almost other worldly.
it's more of a 60s look i think
Not half. Try Planet Claire, it is literally other worldly😁
@@pseudonayme7717 I bought the vinyl in 1979.
They're both on it 😃
I was not a fan when they came out in the 80's. However they like so represent the 80's and I really appreciate them now.
I read they preferred Thrift Store bargain finds to ensemble.
I love Kate, her voice is amazing. She is pretty fine to look at as well. She was 41 when this song was released but looks in her 20's.
Gdo yeah And I'm still MAD about her VOICE!.
met her and the band about a year or so ago, she is amazing, beautiful and very nice, and sang great and rocked out.
She was pretty in this video cbut I never thought she looked in her 2o's in this video. I always thought she looked in her early forties in this video and it turned out she was lol. Can't fool me with good make up. And the extremely high bouffant hair ages anyone.
Kate can drive me into her Love Shack any day of the week
Cindy also looks great 💗
Getting goose bumps listening to this masterpiece from my college years. So awesome!
What I love about Fred, he doesn't hog the spotlight...he sits and waits for his parts...and then completely delivers completely becomes the WHOLE song...then fades back and let's the girls take over 💕💕
Who’s Fred? That’s John Mulaney on lead vocals
That's what I've always loved about them. One person can have a whole song, take turns, back the other, or hang back and dance. No egos. I also really respect Cindy for taking time off for family and the band supporting her. They're coming up on 45 years and still doing things together.
@@rtlthemusician5598 lmfao, no offense just shows my age! i had to laugh
Azzit shud B funky little luv SHAKS xxx
That's how u groove
i want this whole vibe back.
Best song ever :D
It definitely does have a unique vibe, but some stuff by independent artists today is just as good. We may never get the vibe of the 80s back, but a new vibe just as good exists.
Me to...... The Songs of the 90s have the best vibes
Can’t agree more! Love those songs. 💃
Rock Lobster!
@@Jabronis_bearThat, and Private Idaho
Still here!👊🏼🫣😛
The world was introduced to Ru Paul at 2:05, and was never the same again! What a great song, and and great band. My sister has tickets to see their final tour this fall. I'm so jealous.
Hes so gorgeous here too! incredible omg
Was RuPaul the person in the pinwheel hat?
@@Hannah-t5z There's a good shot of him at 1:51. He's not wearing a hat, he has a white top on.
@@Hannah-t5zNo the "lady" in white on right.
People just having fun. We need this again in 2020.
I agree💜
today's music is just so depressing,I'm a straight dude n love this song because it brings me back when my sole mission was to have fun.
maiyafay??? LOL U BET!!! LETS GO!!! IM BUYING 😍😁🤝😊
BUMP
6 ah
This song could've went on for another 10-20 minutes and no one would've minded.
Very True!
This is the cut version.
That's how good it is
I still remember the PopUp Video for this song. They pointed out the bassist in the tub and what the phrase "Tin Roof, Rusted!!" meant.
Heck yes! So true!
You know this song is good when you grew up on it during the 90s, and your nephews loved it during the 00s. It’s a timeless classic
I mainly listen to rnb, hip hop, jazz and classical and for some odd reason this song popped into my head just as I was about to go to sleep the other night around 130am. Just random. This song had not been any commercials or radio or anything that I had seen or listened to ...amazing how the brain works
The same happened to me with edwyn Collins' girl like you
Daydreaming
This song will go down in history as one of the best party songs ever written and produced. It's so TIMELESS!!!!

I saw the b52s in Boston when I was 6 years old July 24th, 2002 and still remember it to this day. One of the best birthdays ever.
They leave it all on the stage, don't they? A master class in showmanship.
OMG. This song just popped up. I haven't heard this for absolute years. It is such a feelgood bop. I wanna go to the love shack too!!! It is one of those songs which, when you hear it, your toes start tapping.
The girls are such underrated singers! Loud, wild, but tight! Very tight
These girls rule but the guy singing evens things out. a southern thing.

Kate Pierson released her own album in 2015.
I wouldn't fraze it like that
@Boston 508617 loose as a wizard's sleeve 😂😆
1989 looks like a hell of a time to be alive
I was 2 years old at the time. 😂
It wasn't, with the cold war
It was I was just 20. What a time to be alive
Kind of a golden age. Very colorfull.
It was an awesome time to be alive!!
Fred Schneider's vocals really nailed it as usual. The rest of the band nailed it one this one as well.
That’s John Mulaney
@@rtlthemusician5598no its Fred
A local band called the Accents (out of Sydney NS Canada) used to cover this song, and it was fun to wach them do it live.
The whole shack shimmies when everyone's moving around, and around, and around, and around!
The B-52s really had a good time.
Yea, seems so much fun to have a couple of close friends with you jammin and hanging out for a road trip, wish I had friends and the courage too do that 😂
I always loved the fact that Cindy and Kate never performed together a choreography. They always danced the way they wanted.
@Philip Alumbo
Watch the Song For a Future Generation video. She can, effortless.
their voices are unbelievable i love it so much
Plus, you can clearly see they are enjoying themselves - it's not a dance that was practiced 10,000x times and became a chore - she really looks like she is just in the moment.Never noticed that 25 yrs ago :)
I luv B-52s their greatest hits stay in rotation on my playlist.👍🏾❤️
The 80s is endless. So much variety. I've been going through an 80s phase since 2014 and im still finding great stuff thats new to me.
This song sounds somewhat modern but not in a bad way.
Could also qualify as a 90's song (early 90's vibe and released in 1989)
I'm a crippled up old man but when Love Shack comes up on my playlist, it makes me throw my arms up and dance in my chair.
I love her in *Iggy Pop's* _Candy_
Maxine nightengale
are u talking about Fred??? 😒😒😒
I know what you mean. If I am at a party this song will always get me up to dance. Love it.
Surely one of the best songs in the history of the universe.
I adore this song so much!!!
I wish it was like this today!
Welcome back to the 80's, for all of you who missed it, I feel for you.

@@brazilianTT is that what you've been told?
I randomly met this guy on a cruise ship in the 80’s. He watched me dance, and would invariably find me and ensure that he and I danced to this particular song together. He was a fantastic 🕺 guy and 💃 dancer, but that was our thing during the entire cruise ( I was with someone else who knew that I was a trained dancer and was drawn to it so it was cool). The crowd seemed to love us dancing together, but it was always this song that led him to find me and get things started. I cannot hear it without very fond memories of him and that cruise. 🎶❤️🎶
It's a small world after all😉
You met in the early 80s and this song came out in 1989…that cruise must have been really long 😂
Yes, it was a fantastic voyage, of which I had several that decade. The text should have read “80’s.” At any rate, I had an incredible time. Jealous?
@@nanny287 jealous of what? You mentioned a fond memory of dancing to a song from 1989 in an early 80s cruise, it was funny to envision some insanely long cruise like the Life at Sea one that just got cancelled
@@ghetto-nu1ul I was just kidding. Relax! That’s another good dance tune from the era.

Then the "YOU'RE WHAT?!" 🤣
One of my earliest memories is legitimately being mesmerized when this came on MTV as the vocals and harmonies seemed so out of this world that I couldn't get enough.
