For 2021, Jaguar has given the face lift treatment to it's wildly successful F-Type range, with a new front end, rear lower fascia, an updated interior, and new colors. But it's much more than that, as Jaguar has substantially re-engineered every single electronic control system in the car, changed the shocks, swaybars, steering wheel, seats, exhauast, and added a welcome glass roof panel. These changes make the top-trim 'R' model much more usable every day, without taking away from the 2021 Jaguar F-Type's incredible performance.

Man, that thing sounds epic and has that svelte style. So nice. I'm all about that yellow life
That Supercharged V8 is fantastic 👍
As someone who owns the "old" F type R, here is my take
New suspension - Win. My one is a touch bouncy
New front styling - Major L. New lights don't fit the design language in IMO. Subjectively I think mine looks much better :)
New infotainment system - Win. This needed to be upgraded and modernised
New sanitised exhaust - Major L. Trust Me! There is nothing like the sound of the exhaust crack/snapping on the upshift or the machine guns on the downshift
AWD - Undecided. Each to their own. My opinion is learn some throttle control and get the RWD, its so much more fun!
Overall I think the styling and toned down exhaust note make the new one a downgrade. Love my F type R :)
Owner of a V8 S here, I completely agree with your analysis
Agreed. F type r rwd here. Only thing that needed to be upgraded was the infotainment which I don’t really use anyways. Don’t need a radio when you have that exhaust note and google maps on my phone. The vertical front bumper openings look way more aggressive on early f types than even the newer horizontal models as well. Cheers
Yeah there's a lack of balance between the muscular back and the front of the car. It looks like they've bolted the front end of one of their saloons onto it.
2015R here. 100%.
I have a few friends with V8s and holy hell do they sound great on a "how in the hell is that legal" level.
I really like the new looks on the F-Type R
It looks like a Jaguar ready to pounce
or to ponce!
This most underrated car right now.
Nah... Lotus Evora.
@Wolfgang Priklopil Nah it’s awesome regardless of price, especially the 410 gt sport. Perfect for the twisty stuff, looks good, sounds sweet, reasonably practical and not a boring obvious pick like a Porsche.
@Wolfgang Priklopil Compared to ? It's a relative bargain compared to it's competitors such as the Mercedes GTC or Porsche Carrera 4S, etc.
Yes lotus is the best if you are a true driving enthusiast not for posers which most are .
@@sdlausen1 I’ve driven both. I’d take the jag. Faster, better quality looks better in person as well.
Love the fact they are still using buttons for the interior functions.
Looks like an Aston Maserati love child
ew
His name is Jag Ford.
I agree, it does look that good
When I first saw the grille I thought it was a Maserati.
Jags have always been the most beautiful. Shame about the German face.
Really reminds me a lot of the previous generation v8 vantage, from the new front end to the sweeping center stack with the 3 climate control knobs
too bad no manual. I would still get an XKR over this.
TST is one of the few American Automotive journalism channels I actually rate! Always great content and a good variety of stock and modified cars!
It sounds so good, I'm so glad they kept the Supercharged V8 🔥
That exhaust note sounds absolutely MONSTER under the hood. What an amazing Jaguar!
I have a 2020 FType R and LOVE the car. Also had a 2017 F-Type S prior. Great, great cars. I think the prior rev looks better in the front, but that's minor - they are both beautiful. Love the gurgle on my V8 and all the drama. Can't get enough of it.
I have 09 xf supercharg just waiting for my engine to give out to upgrade love this motor
@pearlsnaredrummer77 I think they are, they moved the production of that engine in house. Hopefully they'll going to stick with it for as long as possible. It's a magnificent engine.
The sound must never get old, love car.
@pearlsnaredrummer77 very interesting. Hopefully they’ll stick with SC at least for their V8 models - it’s such a nice alternative to the sea of turbo charged rivals. Instant throttle response and low end torque make it so fun and great as a daily too 👍
@pearlsnaredrummer77 having said that Jaguar did sign a deal with BMW a while back - could lead to Jaguar sadly losing the SC engines 😰 Especially considering that BMW have a new downsized V8 Hybrid powertrain in the works.
Love my 2021 F Type R! I pulled the active exhaust fuse and its in permanent loud mode with burbles and pops which I prefer. Yes, I went with yellow and i love how uncommon it is. Also have the black trim/wheels.
Good call on the black pack. The chrome does NOT look good with that yellow paint at all. Are the burbles and pops at least remaining a bit more tame than the previous gen car when pulling that fuse? I would want the "loud all the time" aspect of things, but if it brought crazy burble tune I'm not sure I'd be on with that.
Matt smells his coffee like it’s that dank dank 😂👍🏻
This car is a dream. My goodness.
When my wallet can't afford my taste buds....
When my taste buds can't afford my wallet...
Iono.. They're taste buds. They don't have any cash... They can't afford anything technically.. I mean, not technically too... Like literally they just don't have any money. I'll worry about *HOW* it is they would come to possess money, being taste buds and all, when that need arises.
But, you know.. I think if I woke up one day and got a bank statement for my taste buds... Or came upon a check written out to my taste buds.. I'd be more worried about how I could put my taste buds to work or something... What I had to do to allow my taste buds to amass more of this newly discovered wealth. Also what legal entitlement I might have over my taste bud's net worth being as they are part of me.. There is no them if there is no me.
Technically, any independent actions taken by my taste buds in order to warrant them gaining any type of currency as payment for said actions... Would have to have come from my brain. Whether I was mentally present for those actions in any capacity is irrelevant at that point.
Anyway.. I didn't sleep last night and I'm just having some fun lol. I'm loopy.
You can find a nice Type R V8s (rear wheel drive only) for 40-35k or under. My boy just picked up one in Charlotte and it's glorious, mainly because he doesn't drive like a maniac...but that sound.....lort Jesus lol
Thank heavens you upgraded your go pros and now shoot in 4k. much appreciated
OMG that car looks too good, the yellow paint makes it look even better.
british racing green on this car would be so sexy
You guys should win a AWARD for best camera angle on UA-cam. These other review channels don't even consider the viewer at all.
A person is never under dressed when they are rocking a royal oak.
lol that's called "venice formal"
On the right hand. . Lol
Or a Coogi sweater
@@allfreemedia717 He's a lefty which is appropriate.
@@samchisholm2088 great excuse
I think that is one car that looks Fabulous in Yellow!
I remember the F Type R and Project 7 back when I worked at a dealer prep facility in 2015...and the exhaust sound at startup made my day. The F Type is a sexy car imo.
Almost half as pretty and original looking as the first F-Type.
"Chili day" in California - that just means instead of 80 degrees in the morning, it is only 70 degrees instead.
Which canyon is this?
@@wildbillharding Don't know. Don't live in California.
@@TWHISPERER Thanks. Haha!
Great review, I really dig your camera setups providing epic flybys and full throttle sound as your blasting past 🔥🏆
I think we all forget how badass Matt was (still is) when he used to do the rally runs and bull runs lol 😂 ur so peaceful man I almost forget your driving fast sometimes haha your like the Morgan freeman of racing. I would never think you could drive like that back in the day. I’m glad your keeping it safer these days, all that fun can get tricky with cops and stuff.
The new version is starting to look appealing. I just think the vertical headlights of the original and the vertical strakes in the vents at the front were much more distinctive, bold and exciting. This one looks lower at the front which is good but it's lost the thing that set it apart from other cars. You could not mistake it before. The back is the part that I found harder to accept when it came out because it's a bit retro but it gives it character and does look quite exciting.
I rented a 2019 in Vegas and loved it , hopefully I can rent one of these in a year or two
Always love your videos in depth & well rounded.
Thanks for making your promos/commercials so conveniently skippable! (And for making awesome videos, too!)
The F type is my absolute dream car and I don't think any car could surpass my love for this cat. I can't afford it but I'm considering opening a gofundme fr. I'd rather be homeless than to not own this car one day.
Absolutely beautiful exterior design. Well done.
I really like the new front end. I always felt the original front lights made the front end look too tall. It didn't stop me getting one though, but my neighbours hated me for it because of the exhaust on start-up. Therefore, for me the updates are win, win, win, win.....
Shoooot....lovely kicking sound on shifting! Just sweet! Oh Lord plz buy me a Jag!
drove the f-type svr the burble tune is what made it fun! specially at lower speeds in the city
I was just thinking how amazing the yellow looks 😂
Especially around the rear hips! I don't like yellow like that but daaannnng
New shape is growing on me. Wish I had a road like that near us! Hopefully my next car... XE S at the moment which is great (and more practical) but the F Type looks even better and I like the under the skin SVR stuff they've brought across to the new R (and while I'd love an SVR it's a bit rorty/in your face to drive to work early in the morning/late at night in, more of a weekend car, whereas it appears new R is a jack of all trades... )
Nice review, first time I've seen your reviews and I like your style.
The power of the V8 and closer to the refined sound of the older gen V6. It's getting closer to the perfect f type. Got to go back to the old head lights though :)
that sweater is awesome! reminds me of one of the european tour buses
What a sound. Cool video cheers Matt.
Fantastic review - well balanced (as is the car) - love the new front end styling and interior refresh, At that price point I dont think there is much to beat it
Damn I see you rocking the AP bro! 👌
Daaaaaaamn!
Loving the stainless Royal Oak bro!!
Love your camera work and narration Matt. Have you thought about better mics or different placement? Tire and wind noise is really dominant in some cars like this one. Separate engine and voice tracks mixed together in post-production would take you to the next level.
I ordered one this colour back in June, Hopefully it will arrive in NZ next month, can't wait
Nice one man what a machine
Drove new and old and I actually liked the older feel...and the front lights on the older one better. Not sure why.
Prefer the real gauges and the throttle and brakes of old were, frankly, more sporty/better. Just my 2c....
And LOVE the speed camera effects - like Spa Eau-Rouge sort of....love it.
I owned a v8 convertible and it was the best sports car ive owned. Fantastically charismatic. Just made me laugh out loud every trip and super reliable
Love the exhaust tone of this one 💯
Well... you (Jag) lost me at 5:38 with: "They have mostly eliminated the burble tune..."
That was my favorite part of the early V8 F-types!
Right? That put a smile on my face everytime haha
That gets old fast, especially when every kid with a BMW has a horrible sounding burble tune. Real burbles are good, manufactured burbles not so much.
C Z Burbles were cool before every 17 year old put a cringy burble tune on their 3-series/fiesta st...
agree 100%. "good riddance" Really?? I am on my second f-type because of that drama. It's intoxicating.
@@mikeike6823 I totally agree with you on that one. Small displacement burbles are pretty pathetic and annoying... but come on... in a 5.0L V8? Its enough to put a smile on you and your passengers face with the top down!
Classic ST OT from days of yore. Nicely done. Thanks
Nice review and thanks for pointing out the unseen upgrades. The burning question you didn't answer though, is how does the new F-Type R compare with the 911 Carrera 4S?
the dusty roads make for a nice added affect in the drive-bys. Good vid. Be fun watch or just listen to the GT350 and this thing on road somewhere.
In the UK we have the 4 cylinder a 450hp rwd and awd supercharged V8 and the awd 575hp version in the R. No V6 now in the UK - now out of production.
You're a Dollop listener? Thats awesome. One of my favorite pods, after some smoking one...
Dope production!
Don’t know if I’d go for the yellow but it’s really cool none the less. Great job
Absolutely gorgeous, especially in that colour.
Smooth and quiet at low RPMs but gets loud past 3.5k. Reminds me of the LC500.
I’m 23 years old. I drive an ‘01 XJ8 that really gave me an appreciation towards the Jaguar manufacturing and mechanics...I’ll tell ya a young guy like myself will consider this the perfect DREAM CAR 100%
Nice car and Love your videos my brother. Peace and Love from East Harlem NYC...
Such a beautiful car, I prefer this design to the old one
This car's design is on point, proportion is wonderful everywhere.
Royal oak paired with a coogi zip sweater, well done Mat
3 - 4 years ago was the best time for TheSmokingTire. I assume that you aren't able to get any interesting cars owned by enthusiasts for one takes because of coronavirus. This channel is still great. That being said, it's not like good OEM cars aren't good.
We chose not to drive personally owned vehicles anymore because we felt that driving those cars was like reviewing someone's personal taste, which is both awkward and not that fun. Driving brand new cars for a week at a time, living with them, and then doing a review based on that is FAR more rewarding.
Very nice looking, although the painted line at the bottom of the rear end looks a bit strange to me, like it makes the rear look chunkier than the rest of the car
Looks brilliant. The wide rear makes it look like aggressive, like a Jaguar ready to pounce forward.
So close to a million subs
Thats a dope Carlo sweater!
Nice Coogi, that sweater is fresh
Despise the color yellow on cars, but man, that thing sounds fantastic
Finally, someone else who agrees the “Burble Tune” is STUPID!! Bad for the engine long term as well!!! Pure compression release is what makes a combustion engine sound brilliant!!!
Burble shit pleases the little kids. Real car guys want a smooth and deep exhaust tone.
@@mikea5205 facts
Thanks Matt. This is the same price as my 2020 Cayman Spyder. Given the resale values of Porsche I think I made the right choice with my Spyder.
I love the Ftype is drop dead gorgeous... but the move to make is to get the '16/'17 Type R + RWD either a coupe in silver black interior or a green roadster with tan interior.
Epic sound, epic noise!
I really like the audemars piguet royal oak on your wrist!!!
You must have start with Cold Start mann, this sound is one of the reasons of that car☺️
Yep, it's still beautiful.
Road feel through the steering wheel. Was there any "feel"? Did the steering tell you what was going on under the tires??
Man, this sounds good
FYI glass roof is not new we have one on our 2017.
That coogi jacket is fire.
Jag has come a long way!
But hang on, around the 10 min mark I spotted a new thing. Is that a custom SmokingTire roadside 3 camera drive-by rig?!? Amazing angles! How does it feel driving away from all that $$$ gear on the side of the road and then pointing your test weapon at it and blowing by at full throttle? #Rockstar
Thanks Matt!! 💯
lmao the chat for this video. "particulate filter strikes again" when the car is still loud as fuck...
really cool cruiser but i am currently driving one of these as a convertible in green and it is insanely unstable above 250 kph on the german autobahn. But a great sporty cruiser honestley and looks amazing in my opinion.
The bonnet front shut line should be at the top of the grill, it would make the front end look so much better. I understand that it has to be where it is because of the way it opens but come on.
Coogi jacket goes off🔥
Would be nice if the gopro wide angle was mounted on the dome outside...
we used to mount the cameras outside - it drastically changes the look of the exterior shot and distorts the speed. We chose the angle that most looks like you're driving the car (without literally wearing a camera)
My mans Matt Farah upping his watch game. Is that a bloody royal oak?! What dial color.....sheesh.
Did they fix the nickel plated metal underneath, I’ve heard the Indian company jag used for the structure tended to rust fairly quickly??
this yellow coupe looks so much better than the silver drop top that doug reviewed
Test drove one this summer, when I was done I thought it was a really good car but not great. The C63 S, LC 500, and 911 are the same price... competition is no joke at $100K.
Finally a coffee ad that makes sense to me.
It's good to hear that my RWD R may be a collectible.
interesting bit of history that heated screen technology came from ford Europe in the mid 80's, which then jaguar/landrover were allowed use of (made it's way to the USA to in the later 80's under a different name)
Only the ghias had heated screen
It looks like the Gran Turismo and Gen 2 R8 made a baby that some how came out British
Couldn’t agree MORE on the elimination of the burble tune/pops n bangs. If a car does it as a byproduct of a hot run into a corner and some mad downshifts, fine. But when it’s programmed/engineered in? Eeeeww.
Another thing Matt: do you use a polarizer/filter on your forward facing in-car camera?
I tried trade coffee a while ago. It’s actually great.
It's the same color as my Goldwing, that's enough for me to get one. Maybe as a second owner, I should get one for $67,000...
This car looks like if the Mustang had a baby with a DB7
Was looking for this exactly!
Now I can’t unsee it!
That’s what I was seeing! 😂
Jaguar brought me back to the brand with this one........
Sadly we are probably not gonna see a svr version of this beast
Talk is there will be a 600hp SVR model.
I could see Jag adding electric motors to an SVR model for faster pickup and higher hp, I'm sure the SVO people are working on something
I do hope that they do finally make a 600hp svr model
You can tune the aj133 to 650hp
@@jvd8698 Yeah Im pretty sure aftermarket companies tuned it to 650
