TheSmokingTire its utterly impressive how you can go flat out in these cars and still hold a conversation with your self and inform us of your opinions and what youre thinking. Koodos man. Great review.
Dorian W. I'm glad you are smart enough to notice this, just driving at "normal" speeds and talking on camera is hard enough, doing at elevated speeds is incredible hard, which is why I apprecate the skills of people like TheSmokingTire, VB-H, Harris, Tiff Nedel and a few others.
I drove this thing for a while here in Germany and I have driven many cars before but this one really did it for me. It's just so much fun. The sound, power, and lack of traction is just so enjoyable if you know what you're doing.
Great review video! The F-type coupe is definitely one of the better cars that has been made in today's modern age. Its sporty, stylish, and LOUD. Great way to show off those characteristics about the car! Great job on this one man!
If you think this is scary google for "Furka Pass" Images. Real scary drop-offs and no guard rails, only some stumps which do more harm than good. Also much narrower roads than these. It's also where James Bond nearly gets shot in Goldfinger ;)
TheSmokingTire Ah'man that sucks, RIP to them... Schleberger I did, crazy road, scenic too..one of the most gnarly turns I seen, although I don't know the name, was when watching Man of the Isle, they were taking this sweeping right hand turn w/ a sheer drop-off at like 160 (or more)
I was thinking the same thing. There's plenty of places where if you get hit by oncoming traffic, you could be pushed off the side of the road, to your death. Crazy.
Schleberger Ah the Furka, one of my favs. Especially at night without traffic. The only thing that might get in the way is fog and deers around the top.
i love these reviews by you matt, they seem so much more natural and honest than many others i have watched. you seem so impartial and just tell us how it is in reality. keep up the good work !!!!
+1 ..and yes I know its a "slippery slope" as you like saying. But come on man ..the success of these One Takes deserves an improvement here and there ...
I got my 2016 R (awd) about 6 months ago. Yes, the exhaust is stupid-loud (especially if you keep the RPMs > 3k) and I wouldn't have it any other way. Going through tunnels or under overpasses and rolling the windows down you'd swear you were at a NASCAR race. It makes you wonder "is this legal?"
Very impressive car...those roads you drive on look like a blast! Those cyclists have some balls to be out there cruising around with cars rocketing through the canyons all day.
I think the vibration in the wheel might be a slightly bent rim, simple to repair, but often the case with large offsets and hitting a pothole at high speed can really do it.
You are actually living my dream life. I'm so jealous, you're extremely lucky to do what you do. P.S I also fucking love these videos, thanks for sharing your experiences and opinions, oh and excellent driving skills. Keep it up man :)
@6:45 he says it shifts up for u. In dynamic mode mode without sport this happens, if u put it in sport it doesnt shift at all. u will feel the engine over revving and the power going
It's videos like this that make me watch them and listen to TST podcast. I get just as frustrated with cars that pull out in front of me and slip into park: "What are you doing?!?"........great.
Had to pause the video to swap underwear after the first demonstration of the sound. I used to love the sound of AMG Mercs, but this is just so much better and it kinda ruined my love for them.
There are nearly zero Jaguars in my part of Texas but I heard one on the highway the other day... waaayyy better than what my tinny laptop speakers can recreate. Whoever designed that exhaust setup is my hero.
+Jason W. Morningwood its a different sound man, i still love AMGs sounds, maybe even more than the f type even though the f type does sound pretty awesome
Enjoyed watching you calmly rip up a curvy road in a "wild" car. It seemed to handle the transitions and uneven surfaces well. Thinking back to the Datsun 510 video, we really have come a long way in car tech.
The most impressive thing is Matt garnering over a million subscribers while delivering the laziest, least-effort content possible. "Let's see what happens if I just sit in the car, drive for 10 minutes and jabber. I'll mount two cameras so it appears like more is actually going on." Kudos to you man for pulling it off!!!
Enjoyed your comparison between the V6 with a stick and the V8 monster...you make some very good points. Power is a lot of fun in a straight line, but it looks like the S is just a little more fun to throw around.
Weird noise is probably something flogging out in the diff area - maybe one of the cradle bushings - track days put a hell of a load on components like that.
I died at the road rage comments during this video haha. Great review, with good information and actual enthusiasm, you don't see that in reviews much anymore!
TheSmokingTire How quickly an engine revs up and down is usually about flywheel weight. I'll guess the Jag has a heavier one to help with torque delivery and daily driveability, where as the Porsche has a lighter one because it's more of a track/sports car vs the Jag as a GT/sports car.
The ZF8 needs a big old torque converter hanging off the engine, full of transmission fluid, so yeah, you are totally right - a fluid flywheel is always going to have a disadvantage when it comes to rotational inertia.
Don't forget the supercharger add's inertia to the engine, and boosting air into the system is always going to add latency to the throttle response. Probably couldn't make it change revs faster without making the torque delivery less manageable.
So I haven't driven this car and I already know, from reviews like this one and others (waiting for the Top Gear one) when I have enough money, the V6S is the one I'm buying. This arguably is the best looking modern car up to date. Genuinely, Astons come very close but this Jag is the real deal.
I love the one take series. And the roads. I hope somebody asks you to drive a well prepared Honda . Would love to see a old teggy done right on the one take series
TheSmokingTire im surprised you drove the blind corners of the canyon so quickly considering last time you were on that road you nearly got caught out by a few fallen rocks :)
Good Review Matt...I was curious about your continued reference to the V6 vs V8 in regards to the sound...does the 6 sound any better or different? I will be honest..while I love the sound of that glorious V8, how old would that be over a period of time? If I am looking at a V6 for the better driving experience, then I am wondering how it compares to a 911 or other competitors. As others have already said, thank you for a great review.
Is this Johnny liebermans long term loaner? I just read his update in the April issue of motor trend and he was talking about it being awful in the rain.
I'm absolutely in love with this beauty. Maybe it's the RWD purist inside me talking, but I'm not feeling the whole transition into AWD. In the end, I'll just stick with the V6 S.
As much as I was an advocate for /Drive, I happened to enjoy this one take more than the /Drive segment you did with this car. Plus you can actually hear the car here vs. the other take. I think these one takes have a lot of potential if you could just find some people to hold a camera at a few corners.
Not in the short term. However I think a meticulously looked after, low mileage RWD F-Type R in 15-20 years time will be extremely sought after. Especially with the original design spec. Assuming that cars haven't all gone electric powered by then and petrol powered cars have become obsolete?
Oh they will be obsolete. But no one is gonna stop the enthusiasts from having some fun. I doubt petrol powered cars will be completely banned before 2040. Sure on public roads but theyre not gonna stop a couple people having fun on tracks I think :P
The gearbox of the 458 Italia (v8) is not faster are you sure ? I think that I don't understood correctly all stuff that you said (my english is not very good)
Matt which one would you prefer? The AMG GTS or this car??!! I am a bit confused I used to drive the cls63 renntech and sold it. Now I am searching for car that is more fun. Regards
Matt I love watching your videos and this was another great review, but I gotta say... It looked like you were driving really fast there. Be careful man.
I think that Matt, TheSmokingTire, deserves a pat on the back for all the asinine comments and arguments he/ they respond to in the most polite way possible. Well done sirs.
Hey Matt I was wondering if you could give a young fella looking to somehow get his foot in the door to be in the same sort of buiessness you are some advice on how to just get started in it? I understand its more than less just journalism but it would be really cool if you could share a secret or two of how I might be able to drive the new f-type every year (figure of speech) if your feeling generous It would be very appreciated sir! keep on keeping on Matt Farah
Matt are you serious about the noise??? I mean I drove this thing for a while as I mentioned before, that noise is normal. It sounds just like the exhaust burble/backfire to me. Especially since you say it's off throttle.

Yeah, I'd be completely speechless if I was driving that car like that... Must take a lot of practice to talk and drive like that.
Rumblestrip.NET Randy Pobst is amazing at it too
***** Also one of my favs! Matt, Harris, and Pobst. Legit good dudes!
***** The Stig's silence makes a lot more sense now.
"Go for the V8 and leave black lines everywhere!"

I drove this thing for a while here in Germany and I have driven many cars before but this one really did it for me. It's just so much fun. The sound, power, and lack of traction is just so enjoyable if you know what you're doing.

I've had my RWD for about a year. It's very well sorted, AWD really isn't necessary.
That road has some crazy drop-offs w/ no guardrail, one wrong move & someones toast lol .. canyons aren't for the faint of heart
Piffydaily someone died when they rolled their porsche off piuma last week.
If you think this is scary google for "Furka Pass" Images. Real scary drop-offs and no guard rails, only some stumps which do more harm than good. Also much narrower roads than these. It's also where James Bond nearly gets shot in Goldfinger ;)

Could you set up a rear view camera for incidents like the Porsche and I remember a few videos back for that Abarth trying to keep up?
I was thinking the same thing. I'd love to see other cars chasing along.
Yes please try to do that Matt.
TheSmokingTire I agree you should set up a camera in the back ,to see rookies trying to keep up with a pro such as yourself
+1 ..and yes I know its a "slippery slope" as you like saying. But come on man ..the success of these One Takes deserves an improvement here and there ...
They Hate Us Cuz they Anus
Why do you think it's all rookies? Matt sure isn't the only good driver on the same road...
Jesus, that corner at 7:50 scared the shit out of me lol. It looked like Farah was taking it at an obscenely fast speed
That clanking noise off throttle brings back memories of the rear subframe cracking and tearing apart the rear floorplan of my Z3 M Coupe.
It makes you wonder "is this legal?"

one of the best looking cars built to date. love it

you're the hardest working man in web auto journalism, matt. much appreciated.
Can't call that hard work.
Had a 370z... loved it but only reeeeeally loved it on the highway at speed. Now have an F Type R. I love it at 20mph and at speed.
Many I really love these one takes. You brought an interesting dynamic to your channel. Keep it up TheSmokingTire
wait .. your MOM drives a Jaguar F-Type ! that's dope man
I really don't think you could go wrong with either the V6 or V8! They both sound so amazing.
@6:45 he says it shifts up for u. In dynamic mode mode without sport this happens, if u put it in sport it doesnt shift at all. u will feel the engine over revving and the power going
Love these long videos, Matt! Keep em coming.
The Jag will swallow a 911 Turbo and shit it out whole.
Matt handled the Yaris quite well. I was already throwing my hands up in the air.
I've had the V8S for a while. It's a blast to drive, but it's definitely a handful in the corners. I'll be curious to see how the AWD handles.
It "growls" like a jaguar ;)
UnrelatedNonsense And it snorts like a hippo
There are nearly zero Jaguars in my part of Texas but I heard one on the highway the other day... waaayyy better than what my tinny laptop speakers can recreate. Whoever designed that exhaust setup is my hero.
+Jason W. Morningwood its a different sound man, i still love AMGs sounds, maybe even more than the f type even though the f type does sound pretty awesome
A 6.2 is just evil though it’s amazing
i love this show, man...just love it. i watch every episode and dig your reviews.
cheers from canada, keep 'em comin'
11:17 dat cold swet when you go trough stop sign without stopping and right after that see a police car. :)
Enjoyed watching you calmly rip up a curvy road in a "wild" car. It seemed to handle the transitions and uneven surfaces well. Thinking back to the Datsun 510 video, we really have come a long way in car tech.

I'd love a RWD. But definitely understand the desire for AWD. Either way, as long as I get to listen to that exhaust
Enjoyed your comparison between the V6 with a stick and the V8 monster...you make some very good points. Power is a lot of fun in a straight line, but it looks like the S is just a little more fun to throw around.
LOL! 9000 miles, its at the end of it's service life! What a car though!
matt4270 press car miles are like rental car miles but with track/drift days built in.
TheSmokingTire If you ever wanted to product test anything.. give it to the press, if it is going to break it will with them.
What happens to press cars when they go back?
really enjoy this one take format Matt :)
Weird noise is probably something flogging out in the diff area - maybe one of the cradle bushings - track days put a hell of a load on components like that.
I died at the road rage comments during this video haha. Great review, with good information and actual enthusiasm, you don't see that in reviews much anymore!
Matt is flying lmao I never realized how fast these car journalists actually drive these cars on the road
Rumblestrip.NET probably true, I also think the flat-six is a layout much more conducive to lag, and without the drag of a pulley-driven blower.
BTW TheSmokingTire see my post on the Mustang video about swapping shifter levers.

This car is just so evil sounding!
I love the one take series. And the roads. I hope somebody asks you to drive a well prepared Honda . Would love to see a old teggy done right on the one take series
There were quite a few cops on that road, glad yiu didn't get pulled over..
That Damned Toyota you were stuck behind in the beginning was like a snail...
Hey buddy,
All 2014 F types are Convertibles. Coupes, (like the R) are 2015 MY and up. Great vid!
The entire F-Type lineup is so sexy. I'd never be able to afford an R model, but a man can dream.
Cayman GTS review next?
I just love how you can't hear the wind of the supercharger
There’s no such thing as a 2014 R Coupe.
The RWD cars are pussycats, with decent tires. PZeros are family car tires. R888Rs are required.
I think at 117 thousand bucks, I'd option out a Cayman GT4 instead.
Nice video, Matt!
spot on review, agree with his thoughts totally
Cops were out in force that day
His mom's v6 s, that's just awesome
rwd, supercharge v8 , dat exhaust, through some tunnels in the alps with the window down :P
yes he does seem to love his f types
TheSmokingTire im surprised you drove the blind corners of the canyon so quickly considering last time you were on that road you nearly got caught out by a few fallen rocks :)
probably did a survey run before filming
That clanking could be the driveshaft u-joint.
That noise sounds like the early STI "strut clunk"!
Excellent review, make a fast car thats fun to drive slow. Absolutely nailed it man
I think the clunking from the rear end is just the jack loose in the trunk. If it's not that, then, I dunno... the diff falling out?
TheSmokingTire Hi Matt! Yet another great video! I guess now is the time to ask, any idea when you'll get your hands on the AWD version?
not all of us are driving canyons. we want that powa!!
So what happened to the Porsche? I didn't see it any time in the rear view mirror...
I know you say you can't do driving shots etc but it would make these vids so much better
A walk around of the vehicle inside and out would be great too
Good Review Matt...I was curious about your continued reference to the V6 vs V8 in regards to the sound...does the 6 sound any better or different? Nice transition when the vents come up! As far as that rattle noise, sounds like an broken exhaust hanger or baffle. Just guessin
Roman Izaboss Thanks what I was thinking a broken exhaust hanger
this thing would be one of my dream cars if it had a v8 coupe r manual version!
Oh god, what a road!
Not that I would be able to afford it but I wish this version would also come in standard.
It's a shame that local tracks will not let you on them. Would be nice to see some track action in these rides.
sounds like an exhaust mount has come off. great car, but i would have the V6S.
Plus it's a stick so there's a double bonus!
+Jon .Snow For me I don't see any problem with a manual GT car - the manual just adds to the experience.
You ever thought to do some POV One Take videos?
TheValentino1998 I tried one, it's too shaky to be enjoyable.
Matt. try to drive a camaro around the canyons , would u ?
As much as I was an advocate for /Drive, I happened to enjoy this one take more than the /Drive segment you did with this car. Plus you can actually hear the car here vs. the other take. I think these one takes have a lot of potential if you could just find some people to hold a camera at a few corners.
the price for the RWDs is gonna go through the roof i think.
Doubt it
Not in the short term. However I think a meticulously looked after, low mileage RWD F-Type R in 15-20 years time will be extremely sought after. Especially with the original design spec. Assuming that cars haven't all gone electric powered by then and petrol powered cars have become obsolete?

I think the correct saying is...' it squirts from corner to corner really fast'
im 6'2 but this car is soooooo small. i had a hard time getting in and getting out . i was scared to get back in cause i could barely get out .
Is that same red truck always pulled over at the same spot? I swear I've seen Matt drive this road in other videos and it seems to always be there.
Matt's showing a little road rage in the beginning with that Gray Toyota lmao
The gearbox of the 458 Italia (v8) is not faster are you sure ? I think that I don't understood correctly all stuff that you said (my english is not very good)
Just a few repairs then it’s as good as new
Pop-up AC vents. Think they'll still be working 60k miles from now?
Also, too bad no sunroof :(
What is done at that location that all those cars are just parked there
?
hey matt can u do a new mustnag reviev v8 and 4 cylinder.i rly wany to know what u think about them
Matt which one would you prefer?
The AMG GTS or this car??!!
I am a bit confused I used to drive the cls63 renntech and sold it. Now I am searching for car that is more fun.
Regards
Could that noise be something wrong with the exhaust system? Like a valve or something?
Matt I love watching your videos and this was another great review, but I gotta say... It looked like you were driving really fast there. Be careful man.
The cop is still standing still at the same place a few weeks later :P
Not a tech either, but maybe a loose crankshaft?
Kaipeternicolas the metal on metal clanking noise is not normal. backfiring, yes. clanking, no.
TheSmokingTire okay gotcha. It didn't sound that much like metal clanking in the video to me that's why I wanted to make sure. Hmm...
The Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR Is Just As Loud!
Dang, there were a lot of cops around there.
where the heck is the Porsche at 6:50? lol
Matt if you were to choose between an M4, F type S AWD, or another sports coupe for under $90K which would you choose. I'm an undecided prospective buyer. Thanks!
Matt nice vid! Someday can you do this "one take" videos with the Corvette C7?
João Coelho We did a full video on the C7, that did quite well, and if we can score a Z06, probably worth a pretty-ish film of that.
Oh, I didn't noticed that you had already made a video with the C7, my apologies.
TheSmokingTire Please get a Z06! I will kill for that video!
V6 manuel? I'm going to Jag now!
