    The Crye Precision AirFrame is very nice. The light weight definitely helped out with my back problems. I also had fewer headaches at the end of the day from breaching than I had with the MICH helmet. That opening at the top really helps out. Another draw back from the AirFrame is that it falls short in the crush test than the Ops-Core and MICH. When you put it on you feel like Dark Helmet from Spaceballs. But it also looks cool! So super plus there. Didn't stick around long enough to get the Ops-Core. But I started off with the old helmet with just a chinstrap and old suspension band, then up to the Marine Corps modified headband suspension band, then to the MICH. The AirFrame was like a gift from the Gods! Money well spent on that one. Great Video.

    I'm no expert but does a baseball cap provide the same level of protection?

    • @GarandThumb
      @GarandThumb  7 років тому +359

      If it looks cool yes. Make sure it's operator but not too operator. For example, multicam hat is too much. LA hat, or NY hat is too casual. Now, LAFD, NYFD etc etc is the perfect level of operator. Also if it looks dusty - the dust acts as level IV ballistic protection.

    WOW! This is the absolute most professional advice on body armor that I've seen anywhere on UA-cam. Excellent advice. Although it's geared more towards military and law enforcement, still very useful information for those interested in body armor for home defense. My only critique would be that it would be great to have a video specifically for civilians who want to use body armor for home defense covering commonly available surplus body armor.

    Most modern helmets use a ratchet strap. A good way to know of it's tight enough is to tighten it to just where the helmet doesn't move when you bend over forward and backward without the helmet strap done up. It shouldn't be squeezing your head.

    I use a couple of the standard Army issue ACH from ArmorSource. They don't look as cool, but you can usually pick one up for $200 or under and still get decent ballistic protection, but you are better off getting an aftermarket retention system than the standard one, like Team Wendy. Then you add rails, a RHINO and velcro for your patches to look a little bit cooler.

    Went TEAM WENDY EXFIL SL. “Because looking kool is important, lol”. Words heeded! More important; after watching a dozen different helmet reviews, when reviews start repeating - “get the Team Wendy internal pads and suspensions system if yours is not comfortable or stabilizing your dome.....I hear a pattern of who is providing the better products. Thanks for your review.

    I use an ACH with Howard leights and the team Wendy camfit system, it fits me really well; I just don't have my pads setup very well yet.

    Awesome to see your opinions on these helmets, I was curious if you'd ever looked at the MTEK's Flux? Similar design of course, but a much different suspension system...though I'm not exactly knowledgeable on helmets I've only had the pleasure of basic issue ACH's but an alternative certainly sounds fantastic.

    I really like what he says at the end about wearing your helmet for prolonged periods of time, I want to say I am not an operator, and I have never worked with operators, however, I have spent the last 6 years working on the flight gear for fighter pilots including their helmets and oxygen masks and at home they’ll fly a few hours at a time a couple times a week and be super happy with how their helmets and masks fit and then we’d go out on deployment and they’d have to wear their helmets and masks for much longer intervals and after one or two flights they’d start coming to us to get things refit because they start noticing hotspots where it’s causing discomfort.
    But of course Plaid Daddy reviews operator level equipment for guys who are only going to be operating at the local airsoft field.

    One thing i realised with my mich 2000 is that removing padding(top one) will get your headstuck in the helmet, and now the helmet sits like a rock and its perfect when moving alot.

    Love the videos, keep them coming as fast as possible. I would like to see a review of a HHV helmet. They are cheap, but apparently made with all the right stuff, to the right standards. I would be interested to know what you think...

    Excellent info. Nothing like good ole common sense. When I was in the Army, we transitioned from steel pots to the first generation kevlar. Man they were heavy, I guess most likely because of the crappy suspension system. Do you have any thoughts on the A.T.E. Hard Head Veteran's helmet. I've seen a lot of really good reviews on them as far as ballistics. Anyway thanks for the great videos.

    I saw this and became interested because I would like to know what you think about helmets in a shtf prepped survival situation. I would think they would become cumbersome and I personally was thinking of forgoing helmets in favor of a hat and com setup. any ideas or advice? also what do you think about stacking systems example a battle belt with a plate carrier. It's my current setup and I'm always looking for ways to make it better as it seems no matter how many ways I work it there's always something. like now everything's in nice spots but the large antenna on my radio which is on my BB is hitting my pack which is connected to my plate carrier. also I have a double rifle mag pouch just left of the BB belt buckle and when I crouch it collides with my thigh. it's not very intrusive but it's enough of a bother for me to wanna figure out a better system. Love the channel and would appreciate any ideas or advice. thanks!

    Dude, I just recently accidentally stumbled across your channel and have now watched your PC and warbelt setup videos. Very informative stuff, but i have a question regarding this helmet video. What kind of stuff should be put in the counterweight pouch? I only have experience with the Finnish Defence Forces helmet, which is basically a version of PASGT.
