Even at the high grocery prices we are experiencing now, this meal is still less than $10 for a family of 4! Eat well, save money. Happy Sunday! 💕

My mouth is watering! We really appreciate your economical dishes these days. Please keep 'em coming. Also, for people unfamiliar with shrimp paste...well, it's absolutely delicious mixed in dishes, but in its "raw" state it smells like the sewer backed up. In other words, please don't let the smell scare you away.

I just love how accessible you make your recipes. I have a nice wok, but you also give the option to just use a frying pan. You give suggestions to omit or substitute some of the ingredients if they are hard to find. Anyone could make this, and I can't wait to try it out on the family.

If you're using kecap manis, then you are making Indonesian mie goreng. Singapore and Malaysian are the chinese version of mie goreng.

My in-laws were from Holland and they often made Indonesian dishes, like Nasi or Bami Goreng. Since they are gone, my wife makes these dishes. I handle the grill when needed. But after watching a number of your vids, I am ready to do it! Thank you, Michael.

Okay, just made the Mee Goreng Noodles. I was hesitant, so many items I have not used before. It is great. I added a tad of Cayenne just to give it a bit more kick. Loved it. I will have to go through your cookbook that I bought and see what else I can do. The Egg Drop Soup that I did came out to $1.41 per serving, about 12 ounces in my bowl. Got 10 servings or so, forgot to count every time. Thank you so much. /// Just finished making and eating (most) of the noodles recipe. It came to $17.87, the cost per serving is $2.98 for a plate that is not small. I had five servings in the last two days and there is one serving left. I loved it. Compare to $20.00 to $25.00 per person for fast food, which is "supposed" to be cheap, there is no comparison. Thank you so much for helping me solve diet/nutrition and financial problems. Thank you, Thank you.

Shrimp paste is Trassi, Sambal badjak is the most popular sambal and for Ketjap Manis you can find many recepies on the internet. Ketjap Kental is even thicker. In Nederland we have a rich tradition with Malaysian and Indonesian food. Selamat Makan for Dude and then Habis makan buang piring if you eat from a banana leaf.

I am originally from Malaysia and I tried this receipe. It came out well but it was a bit sweet. Our grandchildren loved it. I am going to try it again by replacing the kecap manis with caramelised dark sauce and omit the belachan and increase the sambal. I think the adults will love it. Thank you and have a good time in Hawaii. God bless.

Love your recipes, you and Dude make a cute couple. I have made many of your dishes. This one looks fabulous. I wish you would have shown the noodle package because I can't think of anything in the grocery store I could use. I will try the Asian market. Thanks for showing us the sauce bottle in the beginning. ❤

Sorry… you can use packets of instant noodle or even pasta if you can’t find fresh noodles. These one are called “oil noodles”. You can also use any dried egg noodle. Hope that helps.

just info to my fellow fans : you can do this to rice too. Just make sure the rice is thoroughly cold (or rice from yesterday is even better).
