Review: Loupedeck - The ULTIMATE Adobe Lightroom Controller - Review and Demonstration

- Richard (@richsibley - Twitter/Instagram) reviews the Loupedeck. It is a physical controller for Adobe Lightroom that replaces the on-screen sliders and controls, with physical dials and buttons, allowing you to quickly use two hands to make corrections, in real time.
In the demonstration a 12inch MacBook is used - it isn't the worlds fast machine, and we were screen recording at the same time. So to show that there is no lag when using the Loupedeck we are working on a Smart Preview image, rather than a full size one. Obviously when using a more powerful computer this step isn't necessary.

Hola, queria hacerte una consulta, ¿si tienes configurado por ejemplo C2 como filtro radial y C3 como filtro degradado cuando los pulsas puedes utilizar los botones de contraste, claridad, sombras, etc para realizar los ajustes locales del filtro o tienes que utilizar el raton?. Un saludo
Just ordered one, B&H has it on a daily deal for $129. For that price I'll see if I like it. Overall a good review here, you covered all of it pretty well and I learned from it.
I love it! However can you assign the scrollers for the highlight, shadows, dark, and whites for tones?
I got the loupdeck but didn't get to use it much as it is not that customisable. It is very limited and still very dependent on the use of mouse and keyboard. Not only that after paying that amount of money it could have had Bluetooth connectivity. The Bheringer x touch is much cheaper, smaller and more customisable. I wanted the loupdeck to cut down on editing time and I just kept on having to look for my mouse and keyboard. The x touch has cut my editing time by a good twenty percent. The disadvantage of it is that it takes some time to set it up to your likings as it's not just like the loupdeck plug and play. Great video and would like to see you compare the two of them.
I'd consider buying this product if worked with multiple tools in the adobe creative suite for the price tag. Something similar to this would increase the video and audio workflow of the suite, then I'd consider something like this as long as it came with software to create different standalone profiles.

Does the Loupedeck work on all versions of Lightroom for instance Lightroom cc ?

I generally edit event photos w/similar exposures in less than 10 seconds. More creative edits, about 20-30 seconds... I gather that you're demonstrating all the features, but does this actually speed-up a longer edit, like a wedding?
+Bauzen I think if you were doing a basic exposure/contrast/colour correction you could match those speeds with practice.
It isn't going to replace a mouse/graphics tablet for more complex edits, its more of a complimentary device.
One thing I didn't mention is that with the Fn + Paste you can apply any settings you have copied to all of the images selected in the film strip. Between that and the preset buttons, batch processing is pretty quick.
If you're used to using a mouse and are an old hand at using Lightroom, then the Loupedeck will be slower, certainly to start with.
Again, another thing I forgot to demonstrate was that you can actually use two controls at once.... which when you got the hang of it would certainly speed things up.
Maybe I'll do a second video - pick 10 completely different images from my library and do a timed test with the Loupedeck versus mouse (@richsibley)

What about the tone curve?
is there a way to control the tone curve sliders with this? I use those a lot to fine tune an image, because the basic sliders are just not giving enough control over a picture.

Seems useful but it sounded a bit rattley and plastic. What's the material quality like and how much is the product?

+gyrovague Price is listed in the video €330. It is plastic, but the construction is good and the dials and controls are of a nice quality.
Bought a gaming keyboard and set the macro buttons for Lightroom. Functions pretty much the same, with better build quality and mechanical switches :)
Programmable capacitive touch control pannel with display would be better..
Great review! I work in a photography gear shop and we sell those. I used it for 30 minutes and I really liked it, especially the full screen mode is quite nice although not so fast on an Intel NUC and 4k screen). It's very light and plastic, but it doesn't feel cheap. It is quite expensive for the materials used, but it is a time saver for those who edit a lot of images. I'm thinking of buying one for my self.

I just bought the loupedeck+ in London for 199.
Made my own using a midi controller I picked up for $30. I'd probably go up to $100 for everything build in already but 300 is a too high IMO.
There's cheaper way to do macrokeys.
I guess the price has gone up in the last few years. This looks pretty close to the one I have but it's now $50.

Using the behinrher....how did you assight the knobs to the LR faders?
Yes. There is a LR plug-in. Can't remember the name off hand. I'll look later when I get home. They are all custom assignable and there is a button that lets you duplicate, e.g. 8 dials for A and 8 again on B.

Very nice review. Personaly Î'll stick with my keyboard shortcuts and Wacom intuos pro (the dial can be set to move the sliders). Maybe the Loupedeck can be useful for photographers who need to take care of a lot of pictures in a short time.

Man... Just get an old/basic usb keyboard (like K120 for 20$CAD), use AutoHotKey and LuaMacros/Intercept. Ask Taran Van Hemert for more details.

No, but there are ways to get universal dials and sliders. Plus keyboard/MIDI method is far more superior in terms of functionality and at being universal.
Yet MIDI is usually bigger (not great) or has less keys. Want to get 80+ macrokeys for cheap? Go for keyboard.

reading many bad reviews about poor buttons mechanics breaking in a week or so... anyone here having problems ?
Just got my hands on my Loupedeck+. Cheap, clicky, plastic built quality for $250. severely disappointed.
300$? lol
This is a good review but there is no way I would pay $300 for that. It appears tedious and slower than using sliders. Just make presets and or use a tablet.
Awesome review, but the Loopedeck is way over priced!
