The singer and drummer were 20 years old when they did this. Let that sink in for a minute!!
Funny part is Paige says"I know this drummer.
It's a once in a generation of incredibly talented people coming together to create masterpiece after masterpiece. ❤️
@@garynwrede4572 It's "Page" and it was Robert Plant who knew Bonham, not "Paige".
Jimmy is 1 of very few guitarists who can bypass your ears and talk directly to your Soul!
One million percent💫
Love this I have never thought of it that way but yes I totally agree 💯
Jimmy Page was the top most requested session guitarist in London in the early to mid 60s.. His work is on many of the iconic songs coming from England.. He also was the guitarist on the recording on Gold Finger with Shirley Bassey. (James bond Movie). While as a session guitarist, He learned Music business, Producing and engineering. All of Led Zeppelins music was Produced by him and he over saw all the engineering.. He was a master of over dubbing. If you really want to watch and hear Page go off.. Watch the 28 min Version of "Dazed and Confused" from MSG 1973.. Mind Blowing!
Didn't he play on Donovan's " Hurdy Gurdy Man" ? I heard that was either him playing the solo towards the end or he wrote the solo and someone else was recorded.
@@almondjones5267 yes with JPJ on bass.. also did "Sunshine Superman" with Donovan
@@rogerkeiter4948 makes perfect sense. I've loved that songs for years and the solo is what really drew me in. I always thought there was something great about that solo.
@@almondjones5267 ua-cam.com/video/mFAyXF_XpVE/v-deo.html indeed.. here is Donovan with Page
The list is endless of songs Jimmy played on. There is also many that he did not get credit for. Jimmy being so humble when asked about a song he might have played on would reply "i was doing three to five sessions a day i can't remember"
This album was done in 30 hrs of studio time which spanned 3 weeks and hit the rock world like a freight train in a hurricane ! Page hands down the best at his craft and he produced all Zeps albums and funded this one !
Page is known for layering his guitar parts, he was a great producer.
Led Zeppelin is the greatest band to have ever existed. Bar none.
Can't go wrong on Led Zeppelin...ever!!! one of the most amazing bands ever!!
Next...Achillies Last Stand live 1979 at Knebworth!! Think about this...Page mixed and produced all their albums besides being the greatest guitarist ever! Watch Dazed And Confused live 1973 at MSG...you will see how freaking great Jimmy and Zeppelin really were!!
Both Stella. Dazed from tsrts will end any debate about who's the best guitarist ever. The end, done!!
I was a year old then
Not quite right. Jimmy was too off his face in the late stages. The last couple albums were all John Paul Jones arrangements
@@Bigballs017 were talking about prime Jimmy, any comparisons like this use the best versions of people. And even rough Jimmy still had moments of genius. Check out achilles from knebworth
Also Earl's Court 75' Going to California. Before MTV's Unplugged
My vote will always be Jimmy Page! From day 1...1st second...1st thought! #GOAT
And let's not forget Mr Bonham destroying another drum kit in the background
His drums yell out "John, stop it... you're hurting me." RIP
Whenever Robert Plant says woman, how does he make it feel like I'm in trouble 😂😂😂 seriously though, this track is one of my top 5 ♡
Robert Plant and Bonham were 19 years old when they made this record....such depth and power for such a young age!
They were friends since childhood 🥹
Greatest ever! Please more!! JIMMY PAGE HANDS DOWN! Yes Zeppelin did write music down sometimes but live improvised!!! UES ZEPPELIN DID DO PROGRESSIVE...TRY Trampled Under Foot and Caroselambra!!
👍🏼
One of the best Debut LPs ever was released in Music History !!!!
The GOATS...😎👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
You know how deep your bag gotta be to pull this out on the first album?
My own personal opinion but Led Zeppelin are the best English band to ever come from these shores!! The Beatles, Stones, Queen, Bowie and all the other bloody great bands this tiny country has produced. But every member of Zepplin is in the top 3 greatest of all time….best drummer, best bassist, best lead guitarist and best singer and that’s not even talking about their songs….
And Rush as all the G.O.A.T’s

What an Awesome song..... I've been listening to LZ since i was 4yrs old & i am 56 ... 5his is My all time FAVORITE BAND #1 in my book. There will NEVER BE ANOTHER LIKE LED ZEPPELIN ! EVER..!❤ Thank You for your reactions, I love them & I share them with my Friends! 😊
Jimmy Page in my opinion is number 1. If you want some great Prog music listen to Emerson, Lake and Palmer, they are in the rock lineage of King Crimson. Do "Knife edge" or "Karn Evil #9" the full version. I totally enjoy your reactions, keep chasing the rabbit down the hole!
I really dig Alex Lifeson and Rush, but no one on earth, live or dead, could come close to Page.
Led Zeppelin is the greatest band of all time hands down.
Jimmy Page is layering his own guitars. Led Zeppelin has insane studio quality for being recorded in 1969
Jimmy also produced their albums. Now I want to hear You Shook Me by LZ...thanks. 😎
That moment at the beginning of the second verse where he says "baby" over and over and that last one with that muted/throated dropping moment is goose bump inducing.
My absolute favorite part of the song!
Led Zeppelin: Dazed and confused live from the song remains the same movie.
The more you listen to led zeppelin..the more you realize how great they really were/are..the vocals..the instruments...all fit perfectly..even when they are playing live..which i enjoy more
All Jimmy! Pure Genius and Talent! 🔥
Without a doubt, Jimmy Page for the win. He covers multiple genres from blues, rock, middle eastern, acoustic, hard rock, country feel, Mississippi Delta, folk, progressive and tribute to reggae.
So does Alex Lifeson, except he does it better.
Plant's voice on songs like this and Dazed & Confused is just incredible. After they went to America in 72 it was never the same, he blew it out on tour some time before they recorded the Houses of the Holy album. There's a live audio only version of Black Dog recorded in some UK club and his smashes the notes just like on the studio version, he never sung it like that again even as early as 'How the West was won' recorded in 72. I miss the days when singers wrecked their voices for our pleasure 😅🥰
I actually think Robert Plant is underrated a lot of times
Jimmy Page never needed a session guitarist. He was the most sought after session man at age 17. He is amazing. Page is a studio wizard. They are best live.
I agree LED ZEP my all time fav
The layers of the guitars are all done by Jimmy Page in the studio, he will record the rhythm, then do another track of say guitar solos and then mix them together so that they overlap each other because it would be impossible for Jimmy to do all those parts live because he only has two hands and can't be doing the rhythm and guitar solo at the same time...nobody is better than Jimmy in my opinion and he has always been in the top three greatest guitarist ever
Jimmy is the best. Yes, the guitars were multiple tracks and all Jimmy.
I can’t pick between guitarists ……… my life has been so much better listening to them both
Jimmy Page produced the album. Still sounds fresh.
Great choice of a song, a sure fire classic! I'd still like you guys to react to "Tangerine" and "That's The Way" more of a folk style Led Zeppelin tunes
The background vocal/melody section from 11:47 to 12:02 has always stood out to me. It’s a small, eerie, dramatic, and well sung piece from Plant. Chills each time, TBH. They did this as 19-22 year olds!
Jimmy Page is the ultimate rock star
I love how Smokey just blisses out to the music while Hollywood is so animated
Great song video ,too. This first album took everyone by surprise.
I grew up with these guys and other fantastic bands...we were spoiled as compared to some of todays music scene...good vid guys!!
Greatest Band of all time...
I HIGHLY recommend you react to the live version of “No Quarter” from the movie “The Song Remains the Same”, which was filmed live at Madison Square Garden, in 1973. Excellent version of an incredible song from Zeppelin. 👍🏼👍🏼
Great selection.. One of my faves and Robert's vocals are off the charts.. Ps love your shirts.. Big fan of both floyd and Queensryche
Yes, the technology was there for multi tracking guitar work. Heck ,The Beach Boys multi tracked their voices for a fuller ambience in analogue., in the early and mid 1960s. Tommy James (of the Shondells) was multi tracking in 1967 (check out Crimson & Clover) . It was all done by transferring taped sounds onto the original tape recording on a separate track that was left open for that reason. Pagey did the same when he needed acoustic guitar running over electric chords, etc. I saw Zeppelin in 1975 (same year as the Earl's Court gig video). $7.50 per ticket for a 3 hour "tour". Heh. Long Beach ,Calif. Keep Zep alive and do more cuts. Peace.
Dudes, I'm so digging your reaction. Great great song.
Brought a smile to my face watching you guys grooving to this unreal music! Wow!
Yes the technology was there. 8 different tracks on each song
Quite possibly the first metal song ever, that thundering riff is probably the inspiration for an entire genre
It's a common belief that King Crimson were the first Progressive Rock band, but those that look earlier will see bands like Soft Machine, The Moody Blues, The Nice, The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown, Procol Harum, and even The Beatles that all were playing very Proggy stuff before King Crimson's debut album in 1969, In The Court Of The Crimson King. While the bands leading up to that album were very Progressive, King Crimson was really where the whole movement truly kicked off.
And speaking of which, it's important to realise that Prog isn't just music with complex arrangements and odd time signatures (though that is a common trait). It's a genre that is built on challenging the norm of music. Pink Floyd is heavily considered to be the greatest Progressive Rock band, and yet their songs wouldn't necessarily be considered Complex. But it's what they brought to the table in terms of grand concepts, album and song structures, stage shows, experimental sounds and lyrical themes.
My favorite Led Zeppelin song
🏝I love both Alex n Jimmy. But Jimmy. Just puts u in a TRANCE🔥🔥🌴
Please react to dazed and confused live at Madison square garden from the song remains the same concert. You will see Jimmy page do some insane work on the guitar
This is hands down for me my favorite zep song
They are both great, but Jimmy Page will always be my guitar god.
I was 6 years old when I first heard this song.... haven't been the same since
Can't believe I never noticed this but I love that you have an Alex Grey poster on the wall :D 👍 definitely one of my favorite modern artists
always love the vids.. smokes wrestling knowledge is fucking wild... excited about the Buckethead vid i know you guys will love him
King Crimson's first album came out in 1969, same year as Led Zeppelin's first 2 albums
Been listening to this song for decades and it brings me to another planet EVERY SINGLE TIME!
Jimmy page is number 1
GreatReaction You Two ....
😮 I forgot about this song! Its been so long..... I was a Led Zeppelin fanatic as a teenager..... I want on to other things but goddamnit holy shit this is perfection!⭐
As others have said, Page overdubbed multiple guitar tracks. By the early 60s, 4-track machines were common. The first commercial 8-track machines were introduced in 1966, though they didn’t reach England until 1968, so The Beatles recorded “Sgt. Pepper’s” on a 4-track…let that sink in. By around 1968, commercial 16-track machines were out there, so I’m guessing Led Zeppelin I was probably done on a 16-track machine, but at worst it was an 8-track recorder.
The 4 greatest musicians ever assembled in one band. The only Performers classified as gods. End of story
Rush says, "hold our beer"
Talk about two dynamic bands. It might not have settled best guitarist. But two best bands ever put on this 🌎 for sure.
Multi-tracking and over-dubbing was available in 1968, when this was recorded. The Beatles had used it by 1966 for St. Pepper. Jimmy Page had pretty much complete editing and production control from the start.
One of my faves, but I agree w/ Hollywood on a better representation of his skills. Perhaps Ramble On, Dazed & Confused, Black Dog, Good Times Bad Times, Heartbreaker, Over The Hills & Far Away, Houses of the Holy, D'yer Maker, Bron-Y-Aur Stomp.
Still wishing for a react to the full Song Remains the Same vid, OR just Dazed & Confused & Moby Dick from that concert. 😁
great song great reaction guys
I've been checking out your videos tonight. This is the one that triggered me to subscribe! AWESOME reaction! One of the best songs in the world. And your LOVE of it showed through so much! It brought tears to my eyes. (I know, CORNY, but it REALLY did!). Thank you!
Babe is another level. Ok comment after watching. This song "for me" is probably Jimmy Page and Led Zeppelin's greatest song. The reasons for that are not clear to most, and it is difficult to explain. When you look at Zeppelin I cover what do you see? I see a depiction of an erect penis, the symbol of fertility seen throughout antiquity. It may be that I also see a crashing zeppelin in fire such is our ability to realise according to our understanding. Within these terms you may clarify or not the meaning of this song, and perhaps also comprehend the beauty and depth of Page's acoustic...mechanics...I do not know who this song is against, some dude I never heard of lol, but I can tell you this. This song will be played until the end of time, the competitor will not.
If you wanna understand Zeppelin get out of your head and listen to this song and No Quarter. Meaning beyond your conscious mind. This is dangerous be aware of your first step.
epic. literally commented this yesterday XD i think they adlibbed this initially, but i've got the sheet music/tab for this song,..its learnable
Yes multiple tracts where being used at that time!
I don’t think a lot of them can read sheet music honestly (not talking about Zeppelin specifically, but rock musicians in general). I think for a lot of them it’s mostly memory and repetition (?)
Boo Boo 😆😊
First 8 track recording was 1954, but it was late 1960's when used more.
All great ideas, but the number one song next to jam to is, Led Zeppelin - Tea For One. It's prime blues, and a great side of Led Zeppelin that not to many people know about. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, add it to your list! Hell it deserves to be placed at the top of the list! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great showcase of not only Jimmy Page, but the entire rest of the band. Robert plant flawless vocals, John Bonham's persision and excellent timing on the
drums, and whether its bass, keyboard, or other exotic instrument John Paul Jones slips it in to perfectly sound amazing!!
They might not have been known or labeled as progressive rock, but they've did things musically that were/are progressive. It was unintentional. My POV❤
This is also one of my favorite Zeppelin songs well one of my most played one
Led Head Forever. This is my top 5 favorite, thanks to Bohnam!
Page wins no cap
HELL YEAHHH!!!!!! GREAT REACTION FELLAS!!!
My all time favorite Zeppelin song 🖤
Emerson, Lake and Palmer are one of the first in progressive rock. You have to check them out. "Hoedown" and "Knife Edge" are a good place to start.
More please ❤
great reaction to a great song. please check out "the rain song" and "going to California" if you haven't already
That riff was also used by Chicago in their song 25 or 6 to 4
Multitrack technology was first developed in the late 1940s after the introduction of magnetic tape as a means of recording. This new medium allowed for separate recordings to be made on different parts of the tape's surface, which in turn could be played back at the same time.
He speaks through his guitar and it's always a private conversation with the person listening
That record, ZEPPELIN one is the greatest Rock album of all time. Now that’s MY opinion and I don’t think I’m wrong on this one. I can hear people screaming St. Pepper’s at me now. The BEATLES are separate from everybody OK? There’s the BEATLES and there’s everyone else. So I don’t count them in with everyone else. They are the best on a different level.
Back to this. It’s my favorite because I discovered it when I had no idea what it sounded like. I think I was 14 years old and bought it because I liked the cover. Ha ha! How’s that?! Still to this day, decades later, it’s still my favorite and I think it’s the best Rock album.
It’s their bluesiest record and it epitomizes the essence of Rock and Roll. That’s why.
It still amazes me that some people today never listened to Led Zeppelin before, blows my mind 👍
I’m 58 and only discovered how good they are late this year especially the live versions. Love love love them.
Hello brodas!!! Im from Chile and I love your reactions on Led Zep💖💖
I recommend you “Trampled Underfoot” / Live if you wanna listen some progressive and psychedelic synth Zep roots, spread ‘till todays rock , metal and progressive music, etc.
They could do it all, they knew and loved that. On their time they experiment with a lot of sounds of the world (like for ex. Kashmir / White Summer on the Indian rhythmics , type of chords and trance sounds). Of course progressive was in their pocket and style of playing.
Another lovely song I recommend you to react to is “Fool in the Rain” ☔️.
If you’ve read this post, you have to listen to “In the Light” too!! 💡.
Yes Jimmy would record his acoustic and then the electric and combine the tracks. The same with Roberts vocals. Led Zeppelin was the 70’s best rock band! When I first heard them at age 12 my mind was blown!!!! From then on I went into the rabbit hole 🐇 🕳 😎
Best band ever❤
You guys are the g.o.a.t.s 👍👍👍👍🇬🇧
I love to watch the young people of today when they experience the brilliance and genius of the music of my youth.
1968 they were magic in the studio Jimmy Page was already a music genius
Smokey! Love the Queensryche shirt!!!
Make sure to check out every song on that album , they'll all just as good .
Listen to the Irish guitarist Rory Gallagher. He was another late 60’s/early 70’s top guitarists. Nowadays he’d be considered one of the very best but then there were so many others which unfortunately have been lost in time. Another English band Free were big too.you’ve probably heard ‘Alright Right’ but they have a whole canon of music lingering in the vaults of UA-cam.
I believe that familiar riff is also used in Chicago's 25 or 6 to 4. The first Zeppelin album came out in 1969.
Yes, overdubbing was possible at this time. 8 track isn't a studio recording format, it's a recorded consumer product like a CD, Cassette, or Vinyl Record.
From about 1896 to 1915, music was first recorded on Wax cylinders (Phonographic Cylinders) that would be exactly as it is sounds, a cylinder made of wax with a recording sketched along the sides. A musician or speaker would perform into a large bell-like horn of which would capture the vibrations connected to a needle that would etch the vibrations into the spinning cylinder. It would be played back roughly the same way by placing a softer needle at the beginning to read the vibrations into the horn to amplify the sound recorded.
Up to 1912, Phonographic Discs were being produced which largely resemble the modern day Vinyl record, except these were made of Shellac, a hard but easily breakable concrete-like black material. When you see old films or cartoons referencing a record shattering into a hundred pieces, that was because Shellac Records were notorious for breaking if not handled correctly. It became somewhat of a meme in the 1910s to the 1940s, especially as production films became very popular. By 1912, the standard RPM (Rounds Per Minute) speed was 78 RPM.
To record onto these discs was (as you said) an artist in a studio would have their sound directly feeding a machine that sketched the grooves onto a wax disc which would go on to become the basis for a metallic stamper to be made that would allow multiple shellac discs to be pressed with multiple stampers across the country at different record plants, and the original wax would be recycled and reused. This was the beginning of Analog recording.
Around 1931 was when some manufacturers began using Polyvinyl instead of Shellac which would prove to be a more durable and less breakable material, and would then decrease the speed to 33 RPM. Throughout the great depression and into World War II, Vinyl was becoming more common as it was easier to make and recycle. After the war, it became the dominating material for music. Along with the 12" 33 RPM Vinyl Record came the 7" 45 RPM Vinyl Single which is just a smaller and faster record usually for one song per side.
However, around 1946 after the war, when Allied forces raided Germany of their inventions, they discovered that they invented something that would become instrumental to the future of recorded media: Magnetic Tape, otherwise known as Analog Tape (Yeah, the Nazi's are the reason we have all this recorded music, let that sink in). Analog Tape is a long roll of Iron Oxide-coated tape with a form of rubber along the otherside for grip in tape machines. What you did was you would feed an analog signal containing audio pulses into a machine that would record the audio sound waves onto the Iron Oxide portion of the tape. That Iron Oxide would hold those wave forms with great clarity and can be erased simply by recording nothing on top of it, allowing for multiple takes if one take wasn't good enough. These tape recordings, once done, were fed into a machine used to make the wax disc for stampers to press onto Vinyl and so on.
Analog Tape is rather thin and originally only had one track to record audio onto. However, by the 1950s, 2-Track tape came about that was just the tape with two sections for two different audio tracks to be recorded. Not too long after, Stereo was invented, which is when you have two different signals in your Left and Right speakers for a more immersive surrounding listening experience. Over time, they began expanding how many tracks they could fit on the tape, and so would make the width of the tape longer, going from a centimeter to roughly over an inch. By the mid 1960s, the most common number of tracks was 4 track tape, and 8 track would soon follow, then 16, and finally 24 around the beginning of the 1970s. Some tape formats were able to exceed this amount and go to 32, but these were largely considered unnecessary and never went anywhere.
Having multiple tracks allowed for artists to record one track and then listen to the track while they record onto the second track, hence Overdubbing. This practice existed since the 1950s when 2 track tape was invented. So Led Zeppelin by 1969 were definitely able to overdub different takes and instrument parts.
