When I was in college I worked at McDonald’s. When people would say they didn’t want the recipet, I would keep them in a stack near me (if I worked the cashier slot, I became a manager fast and rarely cashed people out after that.) I would then take that stack home to the dorms and had them out to the other students so they could do the survey and get free food.

I just wanted to add here that if you're hungry (like have no food & no money hungry, not just wanting a free lunch hungry), Taco Bell's policy is that if anyone comes to the counter & tells them that they're hungry, & have no money to buy food, they will give you a free meal.
I had a friend that was sitting in Taco Bell's drive through waiting for her order when she saw a couple of people digging in the dumpster looking for food. Most places would have ignored them or chased them off, but she was stunned when she saw a Taco Bell employee bring out a couple of big bags of food & give them to the couple. She said it made both her & her husband tear up to see how grateful the couple was.
She was curious, so she asked the person working the drive through, & they told her the policy that I stated above. I wish more restaurants cared about people being hungry, but you can bet that Taco Bell now has my bussiness for life.

Girl, being homeless in my car and on food stamps at one time, I did all this. Only shady thing I did at that time was go to grocery stores during demo time and eat the samples that were free. I love how you are so non judgmental towards people in that situation. You're a doll and a blessing to me. God bless you😇

Man I used to be in the military is my favorite thing to say in which I was. I'll use the military for everything. When ppl ask me where I get my clothes. I be like I bought these clothes when I was stationed at so n so. 🤣🤣🤣
I used to work at Chick-Fil-A, and I used to collect all the survey's to complete myself so whenever homeless people came into the store, they could get a sandwich for free. There is no 7 day wait time of how often you can do the surveys. You can literally collect 10, and do all 10 of them in a row. It's such an awesome feature they provide to the public, and definitely a great and easy way to get a free sandwich!

Dang, Erica! I thought I was the Queen of Thrifty! I hand you my crown!!! I am really bad on my birthday, though and I start out with a free breakfast at Denny's and spend the entire day glomming free food from EVERYWHERE! I make a list and ride two busses to go into Jacksonville (I live in St, Augustine). And I get the food TO GO, so I can eat free for a few days! WTF, I mean hey, I'm 64 and on a fixed income. I DO bring tip money though, especially when the server/take-out person is super sweet!

The membership grocery stores that require you to pay for memberships allow you to shop there if you have a gift card so don't pay to shop there just buy a $5.00 gift card online and just go in and eat all the free samples all day long. But you can usually eat in the food court without a membership cheeper than most fast food restaurants. Also if you know someone with a membership they can add you so you don't have to pay any dues, and it doesn't effect there account at all.

It sickens me to know there are people in this country experiencing a shortage of food or even going to bed hungry. The amount of food available at grocery stores and all the food wasted at buffets...what the hell.
My daughter just had a baby the Hospital said she could order food every 45 min. She did not do this but...she say if you planed family and friend visits right you could feed everyone. OCC is doing a great service educating the public on how to navigate the consumer landscape in this country. Everything I know about coupons I learned from my mother (of 8 kids), the Extreme couponers show, websites like coupon Susie, Coupon Cabin, Brad’s Deals. If universities caught on, they could offer a Master’s degree in consumerism.

You remind me SO much of my mom (not at all based on your age though, haha). She always always always made things happen for us even when we had no money. She took the best advantage of free offers so we still got to see movies, eat treats sometimes, go fun places. She got creative and stretched every penny to make our lives fun and we never had to miss out.

My children are teenagers so I don't usually find 100% free stuff... However my nephew is 8 and we are at some kind of arts and crafts event, festivals, meet and greet book character, or just hanging out at the beach every weekend and in the summer weekend and weekdays...

People can spend their money on what they wish! If someone is making $10/hr and spend $5 on a cup of coffee, it's their business if they think working an entire hour for 2 cups of coffee is worth it! Often when I make a purchase, I quickly figure out how many hours I had to work in order to pay for it. Many times that makes me realize that I'd rather have that time off of work than buy the item. Many years ago when I was a teenager making minimum wage and trying to decide if I wanted a fast food meal, I'd think about working an entire hour to make the amount needed for a burger, fries and drink, and usually, I'd skip it and eat at home! Doing that helped me to buy my first brand new home when I was 22 yrs old!

I lost my job last year and needless to say... it has been a humbling experience.
My family and I went from 2 cars to 1, I have sold things in our house just to get by, I have learned to coupon and swallow my pride and obtain hand me downs from friends and family (which I never did before this).
Every little bit helps.
Before most of you judge, You do not know everyone's situation, and a video like this can help someone out in need.

I hope people know how tenuous life as we know it can be, not so we all worry, but so we can be mindful that this, losing a home, not knowing where the next meal is coming from, etc., is not "something that happens to Other People" One of my least favorite sayings. I have been Other People, in several different ways, and a friendly acquaintance (actually he's super cranky or I'd tell you to get his book) lived in his car for several years, before there were YT videos to show people how to do that.
I hope you are ok, I know the government shutdown opened a LOT of people's eyes as to how quickly a family can find themselves in line at a shelter or community pantry. That is the "good" thing I'm choosing to take away from those days - hoping to take some of the stigma out of NEED! We all need help at times. No one in this country should go to bed hungry, and I'm so grateful that you shared your story. And i also don't think anyone judged you, which is a hopeful sign to me.

I agree with you, no one should go hungry or have to experience that, and the stigma that comes with it needs to be addressed. The govt. shutdown has affected so many families and it's so ridiculous how so many families have suffered from loss of income, at the hands of our own Government, so sad and I am praying for all of the families that are going through that.

On tipping I agree those waiters and waitresses only make 2.00 $ an hour and most of that goes to taxes. They live off of their tips. I know from experience I worked in restaurants for 21 years. You cannot make a good living as a waitress if you don't get tipped $2 an hour is not going to pay your bills so when you go to restaurants don't be a jackass and leave at least a $5 tip

As a server/bartender I have to say I ABSOLUTELY LOVE that you mention if you don't have money to tip to not dine in. We actually have to tip out a portion of our sales, therefore we are paying for you to dine in. And that's not fair that it should come out of my pocket when I'm going there to work.
When I kidnap freebie receipts, if I don't know how the staff was I just give them a good review anyway. I use to work fast food when I was in college, and it's hell so I don't want to give a bad review for no reason

I know how that is! In college, I lived on a pack of hotdogs and ramen noodles for two weeks because I had no money. After I got married, I lived on $19.00 worth of groceries for two weeks! I made a chicken stir-fry with no chicken just using the stir-fry seasoning! lol

But now that you mention the stir fry, I suppose if someone is broke, they could actual use the chicken sandwiches in meals to change it up a bit. take it apart, cut the chicken into some noodles and make more of a meal. Its easy to see, Erica was getting tired of the free food but take it and make something else at home. Then use the buns for another dish like stuffing.

@@3tst technically but at $2.13 p/hr the entire pay check is taken by taxes. And then our tips are taxed. And most places make servers pay tip share which is a percentage of the total amount of product sold, not tips. So if a table stiffs them, they're literally paying to serve you.
Lexa Chanel Well then we should be fighting for better pay for servers instead. The system we have now allows business to not pay their employees what they should and forces customers to tip in order for their employees to make money. Makes no sense to me.

I eat for free the whole month of my of birthday. A lot of places offer free meal coupons for birthday that usually dont expire till 7, 15 or 30 days from birthday or coupon lol.

Do you know that in other countries it's not mandatory to tip. You tip if you want are if you severs is really good because they pay there severs really good. Just because someone don't have enough to tip should not be a reason to make them go home and eat.
@@brazielh that's because in other countries they give servers true minimum wage in the U.S. restaurants give servers not even half of minimum wage then expect them to make up a pay check in tips so if you go somewhere to eat and don't tip that's money that a server doesn't get towards their paycheck

actually restaurants are required by law to make up minimum wage if servers do not reach that with tips. If that doesn’t happen where you work, you can definitely pursue legal charges against their corporate office

When I was homeless, I would buy tacos at jack in the box for a buck, do the receipt or pick one up before grabbing my tacos and I would get another set of tacos. So instead of my fiance and I having to share one set of tacos.. we each got 2 tacos 💛 it has been almost 3 years since having to do that.. and I still do it. Not out of necessity this time. I also deliver food and will save receipts wherever I go, or do the app thing and when i occasionally get takeout, will put it to use.

P.S. I ALWAYS pick up dropped change. I'm not religious but I read years ago that our money says "in God we trust" and finding it is a reminder that we will always be financially taken care of. Also, leaving money isn't being a good Steward of the money you're blessed with (although you can argue that leaving it might let it come into the hands of someone who needs it more 😉)

AND whenever you do dine in and use a coupon of any kind, please know you are supposed to tip on the check amount BEFORE taking the coupon discount off! If you have a buy one dinner, get one free and each dinner is $10, your final check is $10. However, you need to base your tip percentage on $20-- the total before the coupon!
i usually still give the person who takes care of me a $1 or $2.
In G.A at Denny’s servers ( getting payed 2.13 ) have to take to go orders which are included in our rotation so for those to go orders we loss tables. Therefore you should tip the server who takes your ToGo order ( if he or she has good customer service and does right by you ).
@@sslifestyle6303 I didn't know that about loosing the tables, that kinda sucks. most places don't have their server doing to go orders. A lot of time it's the bar that does the to go's. That being said, I always give them a $ to $3 for taking care of me.
