We paid off our house, and my credit dropped 30 points in the following months. It's currently as low as I can ever remember it being, in the low 790's. Paying off debt apparently isn't how you get credit scores up.

Here’s a tip for parents with teens. Put them on your credit card at age 14 as an authorized user without telling them. We did this with our daughter and now she’s 20 years old in college with a 790 credit score. 🤑🤑🤑. We told her to check her credit score on her 20th birthday and to our surprise she has a 6 year credit history and on her way to financial success.

How often has anyone seen any religious comment EVER have a response indicating someone changed their mind, became convinced, or declare themselves "saved" in response. Never is the correct answer. Mostly we ignore you. Until you mess with our kids! Especially a good kid.

Great information except for one thing. If you are trying to save the interest charges or keep your utilization rate down, you need to make a payment to your credit card no less than 3 days in advance of the statement date. Most people do not know what the statement date is. It's sometimes hard to find on your statement, but this is the date where the interest is charged and the date the credit card company reports to the bureau's.

Per Brian's recommendation to make multiple payments on a credit card that you normally pay in full before the due date, there is another way that is also effective. Find out what your statement cycle is. Eg, the 5th of the month to the 4th of the following month with a due date of 3 weeks after that, say the 25th. Pay your card down or completely in full the day before the statement cycle posts; in this example, the 3rd of every month. This tricks the bureaus into thinking you never used the card. Oh...and make sure your cards pay you cash rewards and do not charge an annual fee. ❤

Personally, we are wickedly over extended (imho) and of course utilization is high as well, but they still keep offering us credit right and left, it's unbelievable. Thank you for tip #2, I just used a credit card because they were going to close the account (not one I want to close, high limit) so I charged something small just to keep the card active. Thanks Brian, have a great day!

I have a mortgage I pay early every month, two credit cards I use every month and pay them in full every month. Score is 847. Fyi: around thirty years ago I had to file personal bankruptcy. I was told I wouldn't be able to get credit for 7-10 years. Well three years after the bankruptcy, I got a mortgage loan to buy a two family house. Every credit repair service told me to never declare bankruptcy. I had $30k in credit card debt, was making the minimum payments every month. But all I was doing was paying interest. I never would have got out from under. Bankruptcy was the greatest relief. But I learned to never get in over my head again.
