Here is my version of a review for the new a/c option from EcoFlow. This is their Wave 2 unit that has both a 5100 BTU a/c function as well as a 6100 heating function all in one fairly compact package to move around as needed.

I think the biggest problem is truck insulation. When you are parked in direct sunlight, it is almost impossible to cool the cab down. Now, move your truck to a shade (like under a tree) and the different is night and day. So plan your camping trips to locations where you can get under cover/shade and I bet you will see a rapid decrease in the temp within the inside of the cab.

Since the unit was drawing outside air to cool and pump into the truck you were dehumidifying outside air, not the air in the truck. While it was pushing dry air into the truck the condensed water was from outside. Also with it set up this way the thermostat will continue to run the compressor as long as the outside air is warmer than the set point.
Yes. Which is kinda why I wanted to run the test this way, since Ecoflow gives this as an option …. Mainly for tent camping. Just can’t be efficient though.

A good review. I've seen a number of reviews of the Wave 2 so far. Three points - 1) Anti-theft capability. From what I've seen, there are no points on the Wave 2's body to loop a steel cable to lock the heat pump to a vehicle or post. A locked cable is not the perfect solution, but it does make a grab and run theft more difficult. 2) It's a heat pump, so how efficiently it works in sub 25F winter temperatures remains to be seen. My guess is that it's a superb three-season climate-control system. The NCM battery chemistry is problematic. 800 charge cycles is ... ehhh. 3) The Wave 2 needs a remote temperature thermostat for those people that put their Wave 2 outside the sleeping area.

Instead of buying the NCM battery, just buy a Delta 2 power station and run it off that instead. LFP cells and you get much more functionality.

Good review, and answered some questions I've had about the unit. Looking/ thinking about a portable a/c unit to cool (while sleeping at night) my 5'x9' Hiker Trailer & roof top tent simulateneously. Also mentioned by another commenter, there is no way to attach/secure the unit to help/deter theft. I'm a big EcoFlow fan, but looks like this unit won't do the trick, as most of our "campouts" are in parks with no electric hookups available. Plus, I'd be using my Delta 2 to run my 12v fridge.

Thank you for sharing! Honestly it's really heavy. With the battery it weighs almost 50lbs, and you have to have the damn battery attached when charging. I really don't want to move it that often. Considering the portability, I purchased the more portable, able to carry it with one hand, ZB mark2.

It might cool faster and better if you had the intake hose connected (drawing air-already cooled by the unit) to your truck as well. That way it doesn't have to work as hard by having to cool down very hot, humid air from the outside...my 2 c's. Good review all around.

It’s still able to set outside the truck just use two hoses. One in and one out. And the unit is weather proof even the battery 🔋

I was one of the first people to own an original crowdfunded Delta and i still use it but for $2100 i can buy an energy star 6k Btu AC, 4 100ah lion batteries, 800 watt inverter and 4 100 watt solar panels.

The most effective way to run this is like a dual output portable ac unit. The 2 exhaust ducts need to be outside since you'll create a vacuum in your truck and pull ambient hotter air into the vehicle.

Well done Brian you did a great job explaining and reviewing the ac unit. I've also noticed the power unit and/or the add on battery pack for it you have sitting in the floor at the back of your shop was just curious about it, Is that the Anker 767? I have the Anker 757 powerhouse and was thinking on picking up the 767 for a future pull camper, What's your thoughts on the Anker 767?
Thanks Jerry, and yes. It’s the Anker 767. My honest opinion is skip it and go with the Bluetti AC200Max. That unit is more capable with solar charging than the Anker
If I lived in a place that got hot a lot or cold a lot this would be a nice rig ... possibly. We have less than 15 days in the 80s or under 30 ... I use wood stove and planning a diesel heater . small space... it is nice it is portable .. but bulky for a small van or vehicle.

My 40ft 5th wheel has two A/Cs on it, but I have been thinking about adding a 3rd air conditioner for those HOT Texas days, OR maybe this would be a possible solution to add just for those extreme days.

You could buy 10 of your 5000 btu window units for that price. I wonder how it would handle being outside in the blazing sun for several days or in the pouring rain. How about below freezing temps. The battery is nice but realistically you’re going to need shore power if it’s using 600 watts/hour

Yes you can use a battery. If you use a regular xt60 connector you will be limited to around 8amps at 12v- about 96watts. If you use a xt60-I connector I was getting around 170-190 watts out of my 12v lifep04 battery.

I expected much better results for such a small space. I think all the cool air stayed on the floor and temp didn't go down much as the gauge was on the bed which would cool much slower than the air around it. Cold air sinks so it stays on the floor. Maybe hang the sensor in the middle to measure air temp.
I was more worried about what the air temp would be on the bed, since that is where I sleep. The bed is about 1/2 way from the floor to the ceiling, so it was a pretty fair result….at least I think.
You might want to think about trying to figure out a way to show fedx ground and ups

How long do you get to keep it, I would like to see testing in the winter.
I get to keep it, but for me it’s overkill in Texas for winter. I’m fine with my heated blanket and sleeping bag if it gets cold enough down here.
The problem with your installation is the intake is outside instead of inside the camper so yor cooling hot air rather than chilled air in the sleeper. Plus you are pressurizing the cabin slowing the fan down workiing the motor extra hard. Get that intake inside the camper it will work twice as good.

It's been my personal experience that portable ac units are very inefficient, especially when the unit is brought inside. The heat that it generates offsets the cooling ability. I purchased a 12k unit for my son's trailer and we ended up swapping it out for a regular window unit.

You lose only 41wh by going to AC 220V BUT you don’t have an NMC battery…and you can put the powerstation farther than the max 5m Xt 150 cable provide and that cost over 140$US (that you would buy if you would had already an echoflow)

I suspect with the unit outside the space and the hose blowing air inside, you pressurized the space pretty quickly and cut way down on the efficiency of the unit.

You set it to 68, but how does the unit measure it reached the set temperature? Still watching, so maybe you cover this. Like the Ecoflow idea I’m general.
If it is setup outside the environment like this test it will run continuously because it cannot monitor the inside environment. It’s not an efficient way
In your situation, I am thinking the “window” unit is the better option. Texas heat is miserable.

The DC power port will not run the AC it only charges the battery. The solar only runs the fan not the compressor.

Expensive custom van builds sometimes have 800+ amp hour battery setups with A/C and alternator charging.
This kind of innovation in truck campers should be copied.
I could live year-round virtually anywhere in a setup like that and be able to overland.

Seems like a much more expensive "solution" that the cheap-o Walmart A/C Unit you had setup. I'm not sure why you would switch from the Walmart A/C Unit ($150?) to a $2000 solution...that has a battery option that you'll "never" use because you'll need that plugged into an A/C Outlet because you'll need to run it for more than 3 Hours while camping in that Texas heat/humidity.
I’ll be staying with my window unit too. I’m sure this option works for some people who want a unit to run with solar all the time, but for me the window unit is just fine.
I think I’ll pass. Lowe’s has a small window unit AC with Heater (item number 4250824) for $489. It is actually an 8k BTU on the AC and 4k BTU on heat. Prob not a super efficient unit and wouldn’t heat a whole big house/room but I’m thinking it’ll be perfect for the truck camper, with AC Wall build (not a huge space to cool/heat).
Brian, another cool unit I’ve come across are these U shaped units. They put the noisy part of the unit outside the window and the rest is inside (the “window” cuts the unit in half basically). I don’t know if they have an AC and Heat function unit (probably?) but this might be a good setup for you since you make the videos and like the quiet.

Yikes only 10 degrees in 3 hours? 5100 btus in such a small space should do way better than that!! I would take this test with a grain of salt because you did not have the unit inside, so it wasn't recycling the already cool inside air. Heat pumps are two separate loops, the evaporator side (inside, or front of the unit) and the condensor side (outside, back/top of the unit).

It looks like you are powering it with the battery attached. This is not a true test because it is not running from the power station. It is charging the battery instead which consumes more.
