I run the same ac unit off of my 120ah battery system I built with a 3000w pure sine inverter. I only run it on low at night and the compressor cycles on and off after it cools. About 7-8 hours. This summer I plan to add a couple more batteries to be able to run it all day. I use my dc to dc charger and 400w of solar to recharge. Not once last summer did I need shore power. Nice setup by the way! Love it. I've got mine set up in a ford van.
Awesome idea! I have a Land Cruiser that I want to turn it into a camper. It also has fold down tailgate! Got me thinking! I could use side back door to get in and out! Thanks for your work on this!
Always looking forward to your videos. Something about camping is relaxing. No hustle or bustle just relaxing. Anything new with your truck. As always great videos.
I will be setting up my truck as a mini get-a-way vehicle similar to yours - great video - I'd add some sort of screen for the back window and a side awning.
Nothing wrong with a Guinness. My bro is such an expert beer drinker he can use anything to open a beer! The back of a spoon, his cigarette lighter, the heel of his shoe the dude won't let the lack of a bottle opener stop him!😂
Good times Brian 👍.... thanks for the tip on your 12v adapter that's genius.... yea the heat is coming 😰 enjoy the comfort Temps before the end of the month take care
Good Video Brian. I always learn one or two things from you or in the comment section. I'll be getting some Anderson connectors and some crock pot liners soon. Enjoy the family. Cheers. Oh, liked the jokes.
You can also throw a camo net over the truck to keep the body from getting hot. Your air won't have to work so hard during the day.. Plus you can still see out through the windows.
Another interesting and entertaining video. 😊love the A/C unit. It will make things more enjoyable for you. Thank you for sharing. Jake McClellan The Oregon Boy 👦
The AC is definitely a plus. Maybe as a test make another board so you don't ruin this one but the second board have the left side for the AC and make the other side a door or a small drop down like a tail gate to get it and out easier. Have fun and enjoy the season.
@@BrianWatersOutdoors Actually that's my fault for not explaining better haha I meant from outside the truck the AC is on the left. Inside it's on the right lol. But I get what ya saying having the bed to close you'll still have to climb over something lol
I am so jealous of that a/c unit. You are going to be so happy with that in the summer! I also have that same Bodega cooler just different color and I will second your opinion on Bodega being a fantastic cooler.
Another awesome vid, Brian! Love that rig, and the A/C makes it a little piece of Heaven! All ya gotta do now is drop the Bud Lite off the nearest cliff. I am a recent sub... and really been enjoying your vids - especially the ones with your beautiful Family... but the solos jobs are awesome too. You are inspiring me to want to do some of this, and find some spots. Never thought of just hooking up to the site the way you do. So cool. EDIT: Brian - I heard Radio Shack has formed a Committee and hired a Legal Team. They are exploring the possibility of re-opening that business, because of you. LOL
I have a bougerv I’m going to test in a 5x8 cargo trailer when the weather gets hotter. Then I’m going to try the window unit in the tailgate of a 2003 Chevy blazer
Another great vid Brian, the weather has been beautiful here in west Virginia, i was able to truck camp once last week and hoping to go again this weekend
Scooter is a great tool in your arsenal. I hope you keep using it. Gives a nice layout of the land. Brian thank you for sharing. Personally, I've never been that far south, and I really get a kick seeing all the beauty there. Have you ever heard of the World-Famous Bucking Horse Sale?
My brother just changed to coors light after being a faithful bud light drinker for 25 years. He never realized coors taste amazing without the added wokeness. The Gerber ComplEAT was just a token of appreciation from all the stuff you've shown us and the entertainment you have provided, and for that we salute you, cheers.
Great video Brian! No need to apologize for the audio, I heard you just fine. You can't go wrong with red beans and rice and sausage! My wife cooks it up sometimes too. Goes great with cornbread too! And myself, I would not go camping in the Texas heatwave we have in the summer without a/c just too dang hot!
I think I would just relax in the a/c and eat that good ole red beans and rice and sleep, lol. I lived in TX many years ago, and I do remember the heat, a lot of sweating. Now out west, it is just hitting the 60's for highs in the day. I like the a/c set up, tho, another good idea for truck camping.
Once the technology upgrades, the a/c should be much more efficient. It would be wonderful to have an a/c and possibly a heating unit in a small compact “box”, to regulate temperatures in small campers, truck beds, etc., preferably powered on a portable/small power unit that can be recharged with solar during daylight, that can also have enough power to run such things “all night”. The addition recharging options (solar/ home or shore power) would be a breakthrough for us to have and enjoy! Happy camping 🏕️
Yo, that's pretty cool. Didn't expect to see some electric scooter action. I've been thinking about car camping for a few years now and just recently thought of getting an electric scooter/bike for my traverse to work for the time being since my vehicle is down. But, I've never checked out some electric scooter videos before. This was nice to see how one gets around with it. Cool!
Here’s a tip for quick cleanup when you use your crockpot. Get yourself some Crockpot liners, they come in different sizes. When your done with your meal just pull the bag out and throw it out, no mess in your crockpot. They are great for camping!
I started measuring the width, then climbed in the bed, shut the glass on the cap to measure the height needed. Then just make adjustments and cuts to fit over any bolts, tailgate latches, etc…
You’re fortunate to live in a cool climate like Dallas where your AC is effective. Come try it in Phoenix where it’s like living on the surface of the sun from June to October. At least we have mountains close by to cool off a bit, but its still damn hot up there in the summer. 🤯 Good beer choices, Guinness is my winter beer, Banquet is my summer beer.
Thanks Eric. I've never been to Arizona, so I could be wrong...but i've heard it does get super hot there....like 120 degrees....but with no humidity? In all honesty, i'd rather have that than it be 100 degrees with 75% humidity we get down here. Feels like you're walking around in a hot shower
I use a power strip inside the truck bed that is routed underneath my truck and terminates near the hitch. Then I use a heavy gauge extension cord to plug into the power pedestal.
The bodega cooler how does it do off the powerstation running and being in the back off your truck in hot weather I am on the east coast so of course humidity. Looking for a cheap but good cooler.
I like the box. did you consider making the frame and using foam board rather than plywood to make it lighter and provide more insulation? That thing is so cool, great idea!
Didn’t like dealing with all the hoses and vents. What I’m running now is easier to setup and I get 2500 more BTUs of cold air. Plus, it’s MUCH cheaper 👍🏻
I have the EcoFlow wave air conditioner kit with the alternator kit and yes they aren’t cheap. I haven’t unboxed it yet but seen a guy with a truck using a camper shell set one up. I spent about $1280.00 after a pretty good discount. My wife passed away recently after buying it changing my life and plans.
It wasn't clear to me how much cool air you lost after you entered to eat your meal. Was it 67 even after you got in? I just built an A/C setup like yours, a lot more flimsy plywood but looking forward to using it. It hasn't been warm enough yet in Oklahoma to test it yet.
These new units don’t drain like the old ones. They have a ring that spins and splashes the condensation back onto the condenser. There is not even drain holes in the pan on these newer window units👍🏻

Would love some info about what kind of set up you are plugging into.
I’m plugged into shore power at camp on this episode, but I’ve used a small generator and even a large 12v battery with an inverter.

What electrical set up do you have to run the ac?
Shore power mainly
Where did you get the power for air?
Shore power hookup
Are you plugged to shore power or battery with inverter? Because I want to know how much wattage was it pulling?
Shore power. This ac uses about 400 watts when the compressor is running.

How did you make enough power to power the a/c unit ?

I use a DJI wireless mic, just did t bring it for this. It works great 👍🏻
Dont the ac drain onto your tailgate and soak it? Or did you make a catchment tray for it to run off? Also do you have any pitch on the ac? Thanks.
