Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake Review - S1E4 - Prismo the Wishmaster
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 жов 2024
- The 4th episode of the Fionna & Cake series, named after Prismo the Wishmaster, was both extremely funny and extremely sad. Many of our characters are depressed, Simon even considered giving up, while Fionna & Cake finally realize their entire world may be on the cusp of being eradicated. Adventure Time pulls off an impeccable balancing act of keeping harmony between the humor and sorrow. Also, the Scarab, a brand new antagonist, finally makes his debut with the power to turn peeps into tamagotchi-like eggs. Another awesome episode that shows why the fun will never end.

I love that they found a way to include Tree Trunks without having to recast. A silent universe handles that nicely and keeps her character intact instead of a passing cameo.
Yesss, my friend and I were so happy to see her!!
RIP her VA
Meh. I'd rather have Treetrunks recast rather than Lemon Grab. He sounds awful and not in the fun way
@@HerohammerStudiosyeah, but I guess it’d be more respectful to keep treetrunks as a character special to her. Plus lemongrabs va is under fire, so...
@@HerohammerStudiosI’d rather not give a serial rapist pedophile any more money but that’s just me I guess.
Did you notice when Prismo split himself up initially, he immediately starts confusing his two selves? The one who tells Fionna and Cake to follow him stays behind while the one that tells them he'll hold up the Scarab guides them through the timeroom.
Yeh, that was a funny detail
That’s a clever way of describing how powerful, but limiting that ability is. It also adds to the amock time theory and how Prismo’s experience of time and space is way different from that of mortals’
Yeah it was great foreshadowing for how they get caught later on
i noticed it but had no idea why it was like that. cool detail!
I saw that and legit just thought i just missed which prismo was who
Actually the fact that Martin’s page on Scarab’s data base reads “Desertion” might be a euphemistic way of saying that he discorporated to another mode of existence.
It could also mean that when he got that new mode he ended up getting some kind of cosmic job, but because he is Martin Mertens, he abandoned that too, thus he deserted his cosmic duties whatever they maybe.
I'm always so impressed by how consistent the continuity is across all of Adventure Time. Especially after the end of its run on Cartoon Network. They could very easily slap together a few iconic characters and locations and call it a day for the sake of fan service. Instead they go the extra mile to pick up on character beats dropped along the way and run with them. They keep their continuity (like with the drift) consistent and chronological.
Much love from me for this very reason. Wish that more shows, movies, and games did the same
YES! They handle their continuity and world building with so, so much care. It's insane how much thought and nuance everything seems to have in the adventure time universe
@@mertensiam3384 Especially for the more thematic episodes with meaningful lessons too! Here’s a few:
Another Way
Puhoy
Frost & Fire
Time Sandwich
The Tower
Jake the Brick (My favorite)
You Forgot Your Floaties
Hall of Egress (The favorite of most of the community right now)
Yeah! it really shows the crew love these characters and this world as much as we do. That's probably the reason every post Adventure Time series has been so good and well loved. It really feels like a "by fans for fans" kinda thing.
I love the detail of Cake not being in full control of her new stretchy powers. As she is still learning to use it. The way she transforms is a bit wonky, as she is new to it.
the brain that cake turns into is pretty detailed but yea you’re right, and in later in the seasons you could tell jake prided himself on being able to take really complex forms for long periods of time. i do think some of cakes transformations are gonna keep the mismatched eyes, idk why i just feel like she has this more interpretive shape cuz she’s a cat
Heck, I like how she's still getting used to being more than a cat. Her market scene, was perfectly bad. Bad because cake was genuinely bad, still working out her cat instincts.
@@chistinelane right! and also Cake hasnt had a point where she grew up under the guidance of her own version of Joshua and Margaret, and growing up with an equivalent sibling, Jermaine. i dont think characters such as these will be cameo'd into the miniseries, but it diverges Cake so much from being just a genderswap AU form.
I hope it stays like that. I love the idea of Cake's way of shapeshifting being a little different from Jake's
Jake shapeshifts like he's a lump of clay, but Cake's shapeshifting is more loose, like she's made of liquid
@@chistinelane I also liked how the squirrel completely overshot Cake when he threw the strawberry. It feels so realistic, but funny at the same time. It’s also kind of a poke at how most shows and films want their characters to have the best outcome no matter what, even when it’s described to be impossible. Fiona & Cake isn’t going to let bullshit help them be successful
The idea of Simon being "better off" as Ice King because he wouldn't remember his problems reminds me of the Candy People. Was Uncle Gumbald "better off" as barely functioning bowl of juice? In Elements were Fern and Lemongrab better off as mindless candy zombies because they were too out of it to know how messed up they were? The ending left me with a feeling of unease but I trust Adam Muto and crew. It's great to see your videos again Elk. You were greatly missed.
FR this was exactly what I was thinking. There is so much potential and depth already there with Simon, it makes me wonder just how they're bringing ice king back or what Simon actually remembers of his transformation with the crown. Even though it's kind of the obvious go to, I really kind of hope they don't go immediately to a "Simon conscious" ice king. Something with the character examples you gave is that there transformations are never slow, they don't take place over years like Simon's. Besides time constraint I honestly think a reason the writers made these changes to being "better off" instantaneous was so that the audience could slide right past what implications they could have thought of about the situation. I am cautious to put hope into the idea that they will actually let their audience SEE plainly and clearly the transformation Simon IS WILLING TO SET ON HIMSELF AGAIN. Like, it's obviously so fucked how his literal home is a prop show for the new human population. How he not only objectifies himself in the literal sense but also in his self depreciating language to himself. Being known for a thing HE LITERALLY DIDNT CREATE instead of his own achievements. The (for a TV14 rating) references to alcoholism and how he definitely wasn't sober when making the decision to be ice king. How he makes the decision IMMEDIATELY after considering suicide, does he equate being ice king to death of his sense of self?? The way the people in his immediate social circle know he is in pain, struggling, but they LITERALLY do not know how to help or how to extend themselves emotionally to reach him. Also really hope that his transformation either makes him doubt his relationship with marceline or just changes the way he remembers marceline again from the madness of the crown. BUT LIKE it could be so fucked up and grim and complicated and I would love to see how it could be handled. I just worry with their track record...maybe this stuff should stick to fanworks lol
I totally missed prismo's smile detail at 7:57. Thanks for pointing it out! Makes his progression throughout the episode smoother.
Maybe Martin’s file said “DESERTION” is because he deserted the orginization that the Scarab works for. (His original outfit is similar to his look after all, and maybe that’s why he was put in the Citadel?)
I assume desertion was desertion from his intended plane of existence
One think to keep in mind is that Prismo calling Fionna and Cake "free radicals" sounds awesome, but it also reinforces that their very existance is harmful to the rest of the multiverse. In chemistry Free Radicals are unstable atoms that oxidize compounds to stabilize themselves.
Which is showcased with Cake turning sausage guy into an actual sausage.
Thank you! The smile from Prismo is that he is saying they are dangerously unstable, but they hear "Free Radicals" and it sounds like chaotic good hero time!
@@yassinefarah2423 and then again when Fionna winter king by accident by touching his magic crown
Free radical substitution
I really hope prismo's boss turns out to be a character based off of Phil Rynda, making the iconic "phil face" we see used in the series more than just an easter egg for the former lead designer
Just watch them pull a Regular Show and Prismo’s boss is just some woman in a room watching all of Adventure Time constantly
@@zeldagameryt4018I mean, isn’t that generally what prismo does already?
@@Red_Ryry I guess
I think there will be more to Scarab since he mentionned not being invited to parties. Maybe he's the type to be so focus on his job because no one gave him the chance to be anything else. Like he seems to have wanted to go to those parties.
Makes me wonder if Prismo did the same thing with Ice Queen and her flynn and jacques fanfic
He beamed ideas of his into a another guy, than beamed another into a woman in the guys head and then did it again with the guy inside Ice Queen's fanfic. It's like a never ending mirror.
About the smile moment: Prismo calling them "free radicals" was an expression of how they might effect the worlds around them. Free radical is a chemistry term for chemicals that have an odd number of electrons. They are highly unstable and produce chains of reactions. As most chemicals the encounter will have an even number of electrons, reacting them with a radical will always produce at least one radical species. These chains go until they produce particularly stable forms or two radicals combine. This analogy may mean when Cake turned that hotdog guy into a normal hotdog it was more random than negating his magic.
Haha I just made the same comment and was looking for others to confirm. Well said! I was also just thinking that from a biology perspective, free radicals produce a number of illnesses in the body, or in this case, the multiverse
More like fiona and cake absorbed the magic in the same way free radicals oxidize chemicals in order to stabilize themselves.
one of the best parts of having more adventure time is having more Uncivilized Elk
Since they’re traveling to different universes they’ll likely face different minor antagonists while hiding from Scarab
If Scarab is still hunting down enemies of the order, and martin's marked as Desertion, it may be that now that Martin's ascended to a new plane, he's got new responsibilities that, surpise surprise, he shirked immediately.
It may not be out of date, it may just be more lore about ol Marty.
i thought it was the ascension itself was the desertion, because from everyone else's perspective he disappeared and never came back
Given what we know of Fionna, it makes a ton of sense that she wouldn't see the issue with a happy seeming magical wizard, but yeah I'd love to see her come to realize the broader picture.
As much as I related to Prismo in his depressive need to create something, I was pretty upset of how (appropriately and in character) selfish and inconsiderate he was being. Not only creating sentient life that could be deleted if he ever messed up his secret, but having no consideration of the implications that uploading his MICRO REALITY into a living being with a consciousness like the Ice King was, and its all falling apart now. Like, Prismo is not just writing fanfiction. Being a Wish Master means he can create lives, entire systems of lives, and him taking so long to recognize Fionna and Cake as their own beings stroke me as incredibly self absorbed. Like, good for the storytelling, but man, what the hell, Prismo?
I think he’s bit extra sad due to a certan yellow dogs passing
@@kaiserslavaniaashur1623 Even if there are infinite versions of that yellow dog, he connected with a very specific one and that connection may doom the very fabric of reality as they know it. This is why gods should be naturally apathetic.
@@marlutteyestrelt3441everything starts falling apart after Simon regained his sanity
to be honest, Prismo's entire job is to fulfill selfish and inconsequent wishes
No matter what wish is, even something like "destroy all life" done heres your universe
But apparently, his own ideas are not something expected from the status quo of the multiverse, Fionna and Cake already corrupted a hot dog guy and Winter king from the last EP, both of them lost their magic when in contact with Fionna and Cake, so maybe they are not just a selfish creation, this is actually expected, but a selfish creation of a cosmic entity such as Prismo is another level of chaos
Makes sense, every wish he's forced to make, even the ones that he knows are dangerous, is creating an entire new universe. The only difference with F&C is that it simply came to bite him in the ass.
You pointed out how Prismo, Simon and Fionna all share their state of depression but Cake doesn’t despite being part of the core cast. I’m not sure this is the case. During the first episode, Cake not feeling well is a highlighted over and over again. She might not the same depth of issues the rest of the cast does but there is clearly some sort of issue. Upon remarking Prismo’s original version, she comments on how happy they look, as if to say comparatively to their current situation
pretty sure the reason she wasn't feeling well is because she was constantly shoving her face in ice (like from the fridge) in episode 1 as some kind of subconscious drive to reach oo
@@tolman4497might've also been because she was hungry. Didn't Fionna mention Cake hadn't eaten in like 3 days?
Considering the end credits have both Fionna & Cake dreaming the same thing I think Cake was also depressed with the non-magical life like Fionna is, it's just that Cake was a cat and there's no way a cat could express "This world feels like it should be magical" in a mundane world.
Ya I really need Simon to give Fionna and Cake a reality check when they realize things "weren't just magical" in the land of Ooo but it is a result of War
Magic ebbs and flows. I wonder if magic exists at all in Fiona and cake. In theory the elementals still should have historically existed, even with magic being eliminated from the universe. Therefore it should technically be possible to reignite the magic of their world from the inside, by recreating the war or something.
I really relate to Simon a lot in this episode. Wanting to go back to an older, crazer version of yourself to avoid being stuck. It's a bummer
Dude! I never knew Prismo had a new voice actor! He does it very well
thanks for bringing up the fact Kumail did not return as the voice of Prismo. I think you're the only UA-camr that mentioned that. And I completely agree, would have really loved for Kumail to come back but the new voice actor did a great job.
someone else did, i don't know who, but all they said was "the unfortunate situation with prismo's VA" so i panic-googled to make sure his old VA wasn't like, in prison or something lol. i didn't realize there was a difference (and i can still hardly tell)

I still can’t believe they came up with a satisfying explanation for that Fiona and Cake mind beam. Bravo to the creative team, wow.
Man, feel like Nanjiani's agent got a dressing down after that. Or at least, knowing how nice the guy is, just a sad smile.
If Nanjiani was dissapointed in me I'd just die tbh
One thing I noticed while rewatching Simon and Marcy the other day was that Simon states he's 47, that would mean that biologically my man's pushing 60 in this show, looks surprisingly good for his age
New human technology probably helps a lot! They can't cure aging (YET! I wonder if they'd work with princess bubblegum), but they can probably delay a lot of it and make older people a lot more comfortable.
I think moment he put the ice crown on his head his ageing stopped.
Having an eldritch god as your gf has its perks
@@chistinelaneif it exists you KNOW Marcie made him get them
@@KaminoKatieyeah I was surprised to see that Simon has aged since obsidian, I would have assumed betty’s wish would keep Simon safe by keeping him alive, forever. But he’s still clearly aging.
It makes a good amount of sense to me that Prismo is effectively on a leash. He has the power to destroy reality if he wanted to, so giving him the ability to freely make his own things would be very dangerous. However that does make me wonder how they police the realities other people make via Prismo. Given he had to call upon Finn and Jake to resolve Finn's wish reality before, I'd imagine he simply needs to be careful with how he carries out those wishes lest his boss get involved.
I love the spiritual nature of prismo beaming the ideas into ice king's head, it's like what the beatles describe in the song "across the universe"
The Fiona and Cake episodes almost always included a gag of them being over the moon for Ice King, and I imagine Simon missing being Ice king is what gave Fiona those dreams with Ice Prince, so it makes sense that they think Ice king is cool and dont even consider what it meant for Simon, if they actually meet Farm world Finn, Simon may finally be able to talk with someone who understands him at a level no one else could and maybe Fionna may see that being magical isnt the best thing
I love the new Adventure Time show! (And I'm loving the new AT content from Uncivilized Elk too :v)
But I gotta say, I am starting to worry a bit about where they are taking Simon's story :/ the dude has been through a looooot, he is easily one of the if not THE most tragic characters in the series, If anyone deserves a break is that guy. Fiona and Cake making fun of him and saying he looked happier before really rubbed me the wrong way, paired with the fact the episode ends with him wanting to become Ice King again... well, I'm worried about what the writers plan on doing with his story, I hope this goes the route Elk suggested and they apologize for it and they start trying to help Simon in a way that is much healthier
Bruh we're not even halfway through the Hero's Journey
@@12345678abracadabra Of course, one thing doesn't stop the other
We're only in the beginning and I am loving it so far, but I'm already worrying a bit about where they are taking the story. I didn't have a rant about dropping the show :v
I think Simon & Fiona are both in their first act foibles. Fiona doesn’t consider other’s experiences beyond herself, & Simon has written himself out entirely.
They’ll probably come to realize this about themselves as they go across the multiverse & meet alternate versions who are either better or worse than themselves
i understand where your worry comes from, but it's important to remember that the protagonist and the writer can have different morals! fionna and cake may have been rude, hell they were basically racist last episode, but they'll come around to understanding simon
If their's anything I due want out of this, I want Tom Kenny to have his "Best Performance" of his career moment, like he'll always be known for SpongeBob and Ice King is the best written character he's played, however this could show truelly how good of an actor he is and hopefully show him love and reappreciation like never before

farmworld seems like they started using scarecrows that resemble ice finn. crows are rly smart tho so i guess it wouldn’t take long for them to learn to fear the unstable ice child
I’m a little disappointed that I’m not over my dislike for Cake’s design, I’m going to really really miss ‘normal cat’ Cake. Something about the eyes makes her magic form as unappealing to me as Jake was loveable, and I’ve nevvver been able to enjoy the character, the first few eps really hammered home to me just how much of an impact she had on my enjoyment or lack there of on other Fionna and Cake eps.
I’m really interested to see how they move forwards with Simon/Ice King, it would be cool to see Fionna go from seeing Ice King as happy to the disconnected and half-present person he was-It actually reminds me a little of of what I and many others go thru with depression and probably other mental health/adjacent issues like ADHD, where at the mere mention of treatment someone feels the need to make some comment about ‘changing’, ‘loosing yourself’, ‘suppressing your emotions etc…’ (e.g. that god awful saying about how without depression we wouldn’t have Van Gogh’s Sunflowers. Which is both insulting and ahistorical).
People get a quick look at Ice King and think he’s fine. But as Finn found out, the more he got to know him, the more it was obvious he needed help, he wasn’t actually okay and the madness was a mask for the sadness to hide behind .
Simon is learning that just getting better in one aspect, doesn’t fix all your problems, so seeing him regress makes sense, he’s… not fixed any of the underlying issues. Just removed the crown. The sad is still there.
Finn helped with the madness, maybe Fionna will help with the sadness.
The time titans were mentioned all the way back in "The Litch"
Didn't Prismo say the clock titans might not even be alive. It would make sense if time is just a concept and just flows through the colours.
Also does that mean the Litch is possibly older than the time titans since he was around before time itself
The Lich was one of the primordial monsters before there was nothing along with the likes of Orgalorg, Coconteppi, and Hunson Abadeer. So yes, he is older than time itself
@@Mystic-4252also it’s looking like a lot of the other gods and beings part of the Order were primordial monsters too as they seem to look very similar.
the scarab has a cool name cool design and is literally a god auditor with like a futuristic sycthe cane. Honestly even if he isn't well balanced as a character I still already love him
I don't think Simon's decision to become the Ice King again is gonna work out how he thinks. For aloooot of reasons, but also because-- if we assume that Golb's stomach completely reset him, he might have to go through the entire prolonged madness transition again. It won't be some quick and easy way out and no matter how suicidal Simon currently is I don't think he'll be able to stomach something like that.
Also it's interesting to consider that even though Fiona and Cake's world has been confirmed to exist-- the exact events that play out in the episodes we've seen may not have actually happened. These are events filtered through the Ice King's mind after all. And Bad Little Boy was a story told entirely by Marceline. Until now it's just easier to assume that stuff has largely played out in Aaa as it did in Ooo, but we really don't know anything besides what we've already seen.
So glad to have you back elk- mostly just because that means you are doing better ♥️♥️ creative slumps and mental health struggles are no joke and I am so glad you’re feeling more like yourself (even if not all the way yet) don’t let peeps guilt you about other projects you haven’t finished. I wonder if the lich hand falling into the multiverse will have any impact in this series
Itll be there at least for a gag
It would be really funny if the lich starts one of his monologues and fionna and cake stomp on him running away from the scarab
Guess primso not because remove hand
Something I really want to see in this special is Simon's relationship shit the princesses he used to kidnap. Do they forgive him? Do they resent him? Who knows
Bubblegum's little "Heyy Simon!" in episode 2 indicates that she, at least, is on good terms with him now. But she's had time to get to know him through their shared connection with Marceline. I'm sure the other princesses are just happy to not be kidnapped anymore
Bonnie is cool with him at least, mostly because of Marceline. The rest might not care to resent or love him.
@@12parakeetsinahumansuit bubble gum hated the idea of coming to good terms with simon, but in one episode of adventure time, marceline convinced her to give simon a chance. its the episode where they go into his crown maze in VR
When Prismo was going through the TV to show all the different realities people wished for, I love that the main AT reality started with LSP first on the TV. The main AT reality was LSP wish, or rather, Pendleton Ward's wish. It is such a cool way to pay respect.
my heart sank when I heard Simon say that he was going to use the crown again. I can see him going for it and I can't wait till we see Farm World Fin because it is someone who knows what Simons went through and can relate to both being taken over by the crown. The only thing I am worried about is Simon's mental state. He was able to push back the crown's madness with sheer willpower but I don't think he has any will left to fight to stay himself. I mean he has brought up ending it all a few times already in the series either losing himself to the crown again or the incineration. Personally, this is my favorite ep so far and I can't wait for more because it just keeps getting better and better. Finally love the videos they really help with the wait for the new ep.

"He's not striking me--", just as you play the clip of the Scarab putting his blade to Prismo's throat. Reminds me of when you described the Hierophant as "bullheaded", while showing a clip of him as a boar, ramming his head into a tree. Really good stuff lol
This has to be my favorite episode of the season so far. It has some good jokes and action parts
“sure, magic flashlight! You can put anything you want in there”
The only way I see Simon being happy is him being sent back in time to his era. Everyone else copes because this is the only world they know but Simon was just an archeologist studying an ancient crown. He didn’t ask to seen and face all this magic and new tech in Ooo and might never truly be happy until he’s back where he belongs.
Maybe that's the only way Simon is happy. But as they say, ignorance is bliss, and if you ask me, ice king was the most blissful of them all. The only times he wasn't were when Simon peeked through.
I really hope Simon gets a crown and wishes to become The Ice Prince, he already has madness and sadness, just needs some magic and the pocket universe is saved. I’m really looking forward to more episodes too , I just made my first ever AMV for the series and once it wraps up I’m going to do sooooo many Simon focused ones. Simon is my all time favorite character from the series, I’m planning on getting a tattoo of him eventually too. I’d love to see Tom Kenny do an interview talking about the character eventually, I’ve heard him my whole life after I was born in 2000. So seeing him play such a deep impactful character means a lot. Great work on the reviews too! Looking forward to seeing more my friend!

3:39 Anyone reminded of the "Hitman" episode when Finn says to Ice King; "Get outta here bubblebutt!"?
10/10 impression of James Baxter
I have been thinking this since this Episode.
Remember that Five Short Tables episode where Ice King wrote fan fiction of Ice Queen writing fan fiction of another genderswap version of Fionna and Cake (Flynn the human being and Jacques the Racoon) and so on...?
Does Fionna and Cake Universe have a genderswap version of Prismo? If so, that version of Prismo also created a genderswap fan fiction version of Fionna and Cake(Flynn and Jacques) and hide that universe in Ice Queen's Mind.
I think Prismo exists outside individual universes - every universe interacts with the same Prismo
I think the Scarab (or the entity he works for) might know that Martin went into another mode of existence. Maybe that's what desertion means in the legal system they enforce. The entity in the beginning of the episode that gave up his position and ran away to run a tea shop was also considered a desertor and, in a way, was doing something not entirely dissimilar.
Someone pointed out that one of the tamagachi in Scarab's crystal resemble the Catalys Comet. I'm not sure if it was one but that bring up some possiblity
When I first watched, I thought that Martin's "desertion" is actually exactly what you described. He discorporated into a new mode of existence. He "deserted" reality.
I hypothesize that prismo's "unauthorized" universe is actually how a lot of universes start and will be granted clemency. Especially since pathways to and from are already being established
The ice king butt is references to the hitman episodes where ice king have bubble butts
Hey, I just wanted to point out. The room where fiona, cake go to travel out, and prismos 3 selves combine to 1, you can see golb symbolage. I think thats eluding to golb being his boss. The eater of worlds, being the boss of someone who creates worlds, would make a lot of sense, for him to be upset since he made a world in which golb has no idea about. And this might be a coincidence, but scarab, and golb share the same red color as each other.
I felt terrible for laughing at sad Simon in this episode, but he reminded me of my cat after bathtime lol. It was hard not to! I wish him a recovery arc, but he's uh. definitely getting worse before he gets better
Also, i can't help but think of GolBetty-spaghetti in all of this. Her last wish was to "keep Simon safe," and she was shown to have at least some control over Golb when exiting Ooo at the end of the series. If Simon's multiverse hopping and being hunted by Scarab crosses her rader she's gonna go scortched earth on his ass. I don't necessarily think this'll happen as it would kind of cheapen Simon learning to let go imo, but god. Could you imagine?
You know, i didnt even realize how much of this episode is just characters talking and explaining things, i think prismo is just that fun of a character that he can make an episode like that work
While I adored this episode, the most baffling thing still puzzles me:
How the heck was old man Simon able to just chug those beers like no one's business?
Maybe Simon used to be quite the party animal
He probably has an iron gut after surviving the apocalypse. Can't imagine he had 5 star food every day.
I’m so glad your back at it and keeping up with AT. And yeah learning that prismo beamed that into Ice king blew my mind. Everytime I watch the original ep I would always question where it was coming from. But now years later to have the answer is so satisfying
i feel like its unlikely but i really hope we get more prismo; but thats probably just because prismo is my favourite character in the whole show. at the very least im super glad to have gotten another prismo focused. i recently was thinking and "is that you' has become my favourite episode of the original show; so its super cool to see the expanded time room again
I like how the scarecrow has a crown like Ice King's but much duller in color
thank you for subtitles.. and i've just realised you recreate the word "review" in *all* your reviews on the thumbnail, in the style of the episode title. amazing
this episode was my favorite as of now especially the character develpment simon has had and is having especially when he said he needed to be ice king again i feel like he is not doing it just for fionna and cake but also because he tought of what fionna said about him being happier as the ice king
Fun fact, in the Brazilian dub, Prismo's voice actor got recast in the episode where he gets Finn and Jake to fight Ice Finn and Jake Lich, but in Fionna and Cake they brought back his original voice actor!
Ironic
I said this one another video, but I feel like there's a parallel to be made between Simon being the Ice King and someone dealing with a former drug addiction. Simon is constantly told he's 'not fun' anymore, that Ice King was more fun than he is. It's like someone who used to abuse alcohol or drugs being pressured to relapse because people liked the unhinged and high version of that person, as opposed to the person who has to put in the work not to fall to their vices. Simon doesn't want to be the Ice King, but no one wants him to be Simon so it's just easier to relapse into magic, at least then he wasn't so lonely and miserable (the irony being, Ice King was incredibly lonely and miserable, but was too insane to actually realize it for more than moments at a time. He'd have crying fits in his room, and then just get up with his head empty and go about his day).
prismo was my favorite character in the show and this episode made me love him even more
I was watching someone else for these video reviews but you are so eloquently spoken and make the content so exciting to take in. I’m gonna be watching both of you guys from now on. Cant wait for your reviews of the next episodes!
Honestly it kind of feels like Simon is struggling without a role to fulfill as a guardian. He values his relationship with Marceline so much, but knows that they can't go back to the way things were and knowing that for sure contributes to his depression. It seems like a little bit of that parenting instinct kicked in when Fionna slaps some sense into him about how her whole world would die with him. It feels like a metaphor for how a child sees their parent as their everything, and maybe that's why Simon seems to be so resolved about turning back into Ice King. "If I can't be happy, maybe everyone living in my head can be" type beat.
Dude cannot function without being responsible for someone or something, and seems ready to sacrifice himself as he is before exploring any other options because he values himself so little and others so much.
Sweetie, please go to therapy
Aged well
Simons cake is consistent with cannon, the ice king is shown to have a bubble butt multiple times.
Yaaaaas xD
Absolutely love your videos man, so happy to have the series back and your videos on them as well
Lmaoooooooo the empty prismo profile frame is such a good gag, i didnt even notice it
The ice king joke was so funny that i had to hold in my laughter while my roommate was sleeping
Prismos boss is probably just Pendleton Ward
Or a character voiced by him
That would've been so meta
@@RAINBOWNIGTHMAREPRODUCTIONSso... Lsp
so you’re not gonna talk about the flapjack thing
I means finn had to actually hon his fighting skills over the years fionna is basically hit the reset button
I like the part where scaren semed to feel proud and emotional when He saw the time core. I think He prob belives that he is a part of a universe machine and that his actions are 100% justified because of that. I think it makes him more interesting character because there is a authentic and non evil intention inside of him.
Also I think it would be interesting how weird the Prismo boss might be shown now that the adventure time has much less restrictions. It would be cool if they used some experimental directing when portraying him.
Also I think that assumption of Finn making the tatoo before Jakes death kinda makes the story worse. I like the symbolism in this tatoo and the way it was intruduced with no context.
Also I think one of the reasons why Scareb is doing deatch penalty now is because there is no longer a prison to keep cosmic criminal in. Still I dont think its any justyfication for his actions.
I like how openly Cake doesn't like Simon, reminds me a lot of how Jake barely tolerated Ice King even after finding out his secret
Something I haven’t seen brought up is that in the episode Temple of Mars when Finn asks how Jake got to Mars he says “I was just eating a sausage on some stupid planet, then all of a sudden there was a beautiful rainbow explosion and a loud noise - sort of like a space telemetry capsule activating. Then here I was, standing next to this Mars door.” This seems very familiar to the clock titans in this episode. It’s possible that’s why they were added just to clear up that loose end but yeah I think they’ll return in F&C
Fionna receiving her outfit makes me think of whenever Link receives his green tunic.
It's a moment of stepping into their roles as a hero.
Prismo: "you had no problems with Skirt in my Fanfic"
Fiona: "what kind of Fanfic?"
😅
9:38 Omg she’s going to extremely love them all so much. She was basically literally begging for interdimensional wonder. “I knew my life was supposed to be magic!”
i think prismo's boss is either the audience or the network, if something happened that broke the canon or the timeline it would cause an outage with the fanbase, so it's his job to keep all the multiverse shenanigans in order
Simon will always have a bubble butt, whether he's ice king or not
im hoping that in the end it turns out that prismo's boss was a fan of the fiona and cake books
My predicition is I think maybe the Scarab villian will somehow become prismo's new bestie instead of being fleshed out as a real villian. Cause in adventure time prismo really wanted Jake to be his best friend, and his depression is probably heavily influenced by Jake's death as well as the monotony of his existence. It's seems like Simon and prismo's state of being are parallel and the message of the series might be to heal and let your loved ones go? So prismo needs a new best friend to let go of his sadness of Jake, similar to how Finn has "healed"(sort of), and then Simon needs to let go of Betty.
Also idk why it bugged me but Fiona eyeballs were way too big in the episode - AT normally has tiny dot eyeballs idk 😂
Foreshadowed well
I think Scarab will still be fun and entertaining being one-note.
I think Fionna will be so enthusiastic to see new realities and just go with the flow of things
when i watched the episode and saw Scarab i thought "oh, hm. i completely forgot this character. was he linked to Me-Mow? doesn't seem like it... eh whatever, I'll wait for Uncivilized Elk to recap it for me"
and then you tell me it's a brand new character.
Its like the opposite of Dr. Magnusson from the Half-Life series: Scarab fits in the show so well that I immediately assumed he's always been there. That's brilliant.
I love how this episode establishes three themes That we’re going to see throughout this show first you have Fiona who’ve always wished for a more magical world, and turns out she did live in a magical world, but it was dropped away from her like how we are in the world as children, but as we get older life becomes more mundane didn’t you have the theme of the sacred flame and Prismo who have these magical abilities, but uses them for purposes that the scarab doesn’t like this is like when people have certain gifts, but the scarab represent society, and how if you don’t use it in a typical fashion, you could be chastise or punish, for it the scarab also represents how people will get mad at you depending on how you use your gifts especially if they’re jealous of your gifts and they want them for themselves. Do you have Simon? He’s kind of a tough one, but when he had an interaction with Fiona about how he said the ice king wasn’t fun, but she said it didn’t look that way to me. It seems like Simon theme is it going to be about balancing the magic in your life how sometimes things that seem like magical in your life can be overwhelming and cause more harm than good but instead of being in complete denial, you have to find proper ways to cope with it I think he will go back to being the ice king but he will find a proper way to balance it
That’s so insane that Kumail agent totally biffed on having him return as Prismo!
But yess I totally agree loved the replacement and Prismos exposition was so entertaining. Loved all the reveals and setup for the rest of the season.
