I think having Betty be so on top of things in the flashbacks is meant to show how Simon saw Betty as superior in ways he is not and demonstrate how he didn't notice to imbalanced power dynamic because of these moments
I actually apprechiated getting to see Simon and Betty's relationship for once. It always felt like we were told they loved each other, but we never saw them interact lovingly.
Yeah, I loved getting to see them interact as a couple and have fun times together. I also think it helped as build up for Simon realizing he had ignored Betty's dreams
I think actually SEEING their romance makes it real and more emotional for the audience (if that makes sense)- which, romance isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but personally, I found those scenes very heart warming
You know what I _really_ love about this episode? It felt like something early AT fandom would've LOVED. The frame of Ice King dying is exactly the sort of thing we would've gone wild about, and I missed that feeling. Back when we hoarded Adventure Time's darker moments like precious stones because of how rare they felt.
I love that this show continues the mockery of the Lich. He has never really succeeded in the show, and the one time he technically did he hated it. His ideals of everything returning to nothing are counter intuitive to the show’s mantra of “the fun will never end” he can never succeed People were upset when the lich showed actual emotions and complex character traits, but that was one of my favorite parts of the series. Even the Lich somewhat comes to the realization his goal is dumb, but he can’t except it and throws a fit I think people got lost in Perlman’s excellent voice acting and didn’t realize how much of a chump Lich is
Its not even that its the idea that the lich is a hivemind across the universes that simps for golb, to turn into a tetris block and repeat it all over again
the lich has got to be one of the biggest frauds in fiction with how he gets hyped up like he does only for him to get defeated by a sweater, blood, and a baby
@@uncivilizedelkthis is all true, but he still is one. When they’re not careful around him, he has the power to destroy entire realities. Finn and Jake are just usually stylish in how they beat their enemies. Nonetheless, he does get treated as a chump whenever he is defeated
I think this was my favorite episode of the season. The whole thing just felt like vintage adventure time to me. Very dark, yet it becomes even more dark when you analyze it further, golden character interactions both humorous and serious, near perfect pacing, kickass soundtrack, awesome art and coloring, etc. It felt like everything I love about the show was wrapped up into a quick 20 minutes
I actually love the flashbacks because in contrast with Jerry's world, in a world where everything died, they take the time to remember the life from the past. We see Simon, Betty and all those happy humans living life like any other day, from a time before the mushroom war, before the Lich's wish. The episode focused on a world of death, a world of life, and a place above all.
What's interesting is that Farmworld Lich might know what Extinct World Lich did, given his "many worlds" comment. Maybe the reason why Handy L is still causing problems in the afterlife is that rather than realizing how pointless omnicide was after Jerry went to an existential funk, he doubled down going "clearly Jerry's problem was giving up too early"
Exactly, he always seems like he had knowledge of other's variant of himself, so I assumed he saw what happend to Jerry and said "nah bro took L beacuse don't go hard enough"
I said this when the episode came out and I'm not sure if it was intentional or not, but I like how Orbo being Scarab's boss means that the latter is a dung beetle outranked by a ball. No wonder he's upset.
I was saddened by the death of BMO, he's the only non-living being there in other than the Lich. Now, the Lich is all alone. He completely eradicated life where he achieved his purpose; now he's purposeless. I think there was a quote in AT about this. But also funny to hear Orbo being voiced by David Mccormick who voiced Bandit Heeler; especially with: "Nice speech. Say goodbye to your legs!" part.
My semi-headcannon is that the microorganisms that came through the portal will eventually return life to the world. Maybe in a million years there will be another green planet.
15:13 I think he’s referring to the fact that Simon is even alive at all, given that his wish was for the extinction of all life, including the Ice King.
@@RAINBOWNIGTHMAREPRODUCTIONS Even if all the bacteria that'd decompose Billy's remains are dead the elements and lack of natural healing were gonna wear down the skin
There's actually an inconsistance that kind of bothered me. When he wears Billy's skin and even in his first appearances in the show he actually has gums despite being a skeleton which is a creepy detail that works very well yet as he sheds Billy's skin in Fionna and Cake he loses his iconic gum to reinforce that there's only the bones, it works don't get me wrong but it's still weird.
I wish to say thank you for all the wonderful videos you've given us over the years, I have always been so excited with every upload. I still come back and rewatch them from time to time
Yoooo, you got sponsored to promote the AT cards kickstarter?? Heck yeah! That's awesome!! I'm so happy that they are doing this kickstarter! I absolutely loved playing Card Wars on my phone when I was younger, and I remember trying to recreate the cards IRL, but I was super bad at drawing at the time, ha-ha.
I think Orbo was also inspired by the concept of a 4d "sphere" If you move a 3d sphere through a 2d plane, it makes a circle that gradually grows and shrinks. Logically then, a 4d "sphere" moved through a 3d plane would make a sphere that gradually grows and shrinks. Smarter Everyday made a fascinating video on the concept!
3:23 You know, that means that from the Bonnibel’s perspective, Finn, Jake and the Lich entered a portal and then she immediately died. That must’ve been quite strange for the (technically, conveniently missing) Gumball Guardians to witness. Also, I would have wanted to see the robot version of Bonnibel as the ruler of the Candy Kingdom instead of BMO. It would’ve been interesting to see how she’d have reacted to her entire purpose for existing cease to exist.
i love that concept, but it wouldn’t make sense for p-bot to exist because bonnie didn’t make her until later in s5, which wouldn’t be possible if she had died during the s4 finale/s5 premiere
I've said this, uh, probably close to 10 years ago, and I'll repeat it now: your videos are an integral part of the AT experience for me, it just wouldn't be the same without them. I love your analytical skills, I love your delivery, and the visuals you choose. I doubt I'll ever be able to produce the animated series I've been plotting out for years, but the idea of it ever being reviewed by you never fails to put a smile on my face.
Something not mentioned, the only reason the portal opened is because of Simon saying goodbye to Betty, causing an "emotional supercharge" aka sparks to open the portal and complete his ritual from the original episode. Turns out the one thing he needed to finish it was the feeling of finally saying goodbye and letting her go. also the song while it may have been fluff meant to show those unfamiliar with them how truly enamored they are with each other it also shows the toxic nature of their relationship. "you and me we got something to lose. but it ain't called love without a little tragedy" true devotion on both sides is poetic and some consider it true love, but it can quickly end up with both characters pulling a Romeo and Juliet.
One thing in Jerryworld that i think would have been interesting is seeing what happened to the Islands of Humans, more specifically, Finn's mom. How would she cope with losing all the other humans, would she set out across the world to find any life?? Had Fionna and co. not come, would Minerva eventually find Ooo, BMO and the Lich??
@@КатяКалинина-х6м NEPTR was alive thanks to magic, and wasn't actually a functional robot, so NEPTR would die just like all the sentient food. BMO was just metal and electricity. The other Mo's were AllMo by this point, and who knows where they went.
I apparently need to rewatch Islands, cause I can't recall the scene when Minerva goes digital, but for some reason I was under the impression Minerva's human body is still linked up to the Islands computer system and is needed to maintain interfacing, so the Lich's wish would kill her too.
With the way this series begins and ends, I think it's extremely important to directly show how much Simon and Betty loved each other. Really enjoyed the flashbacks in this episode
The Lich has the essence (or is a reincarnation of?) of the Catalyst Comet from “Evergreen”, so I think it makes sense that the Lich would be familiar with several incarnations of the Ice King, and while not necessarily knowing the history of the crown, understanding that the “Ice Wizard” seems to recur throughout history. I’m guessing that’s why he’s unsurprised by Simon’s presence. He’s just assuming the “reincarnation” has happened again.
I don't think reincarnation is possible after an omnicide of that. His tone sounds more bemused. That said I do think you have a point he's familiar with prior incarnations of Ice King (either Simon himself or prior wearers) since when he first said "ice wizard" it almost sounds as if he knew about him. I think that he might know about Evergreen since he tried to stop his comet incarnation
I think when the Lich says Simon has 'risen' he is refering to Simon coming back to life. In the Liches' perspective Ice King has been dead for a long time, so he probably assumed Simon was the Ice King from this reality who had some how come back to life. He does not comment on Fionna and Cake because he does not recognise them :)
I've just discovered your lovely channel through this playlist and I hope to see more. More than that, I see you don't post consistently - I struggle with depression as well, and small delights like your analyses help me. I hope you are okay can experience moments of joy as well. Stay strong.
15:25 I think that's ingressed. Big props for the use of anhedonic, I love that word. Found it through the eponymous track on Silent Planet's album Iridescent, an album with a heavy focus on depression; something I also suffer from. I know it's weird, I focus on words a lot. Great video as always!
Can't recall my exact wording in the review, but I was going for like egressed from Vampire World (Fionna was universe hopping as a means of escape/exiting) and hence egressed "into" (exited into) Crap World. Pretty sure it's still a jank use of language on my part, lol. Anhedonia has lately been the lead antagonistic force of my depression. It just smothers my ability to do pretty much anything.
@@uncivilizedelk Oh no it made sense its a silly nitpick. And yeah, when there's no joy to look forward to then why should you do anything "good/productive." Even if you do start the ball rolling, like The Reign of Kindo says in "Psalm": "I don't need a tragedy to shake my solid ground and I don't need a fire sent to burn the good I've found"; forcing you to restart your progress in a Sisyphean cycle. And even with that in mind tragedies seem to be round every corner. But maybe that's a bit of a grim outlook, at least we've got more Adventure Time to look forward to
hey elk! just wanted you to know youre my favourite creator in the AT space, and your in-depth analysis of adventure time's themes sparked my love for media analysis when i was a teen. I've been eagerly awaiting to hear your thoughts on jerry, so im pumped to finally hear them!! figured I'd letcha know you've made a genuine positive impression in my life bc stuff like that isn't really brought up a lot online. 🤘🤘
14:57 I'm not entirely sure this universe is a result of the Lich's wish from S5. You can see Finn's note from "The Temple of Mars" in the background. Perhaps The Lich won at some other point in the timeline in this universe?
I think the implication is that Finn has been signing his name that way even before Season 5 (kinda the same way they retroactively made Ice King know "Everything Stays" before S5). I'm surprised they decided to include the note though given that it could cause that confusion.
@@uncivilizedelkI feel like the intent here was to play it pretty loose in terms of confirming when exactly the Lich won and basically let the viewer draw their own conclusions, otherwise like you said putting that note there leaves potential for confusion
So glad to see another review - instantly my must watch video of the day! But even more glad you're taking the time necessary for your mental health, looking forward to the next review regardless of how much time you need
The piece of metal is present on him when he burns off the disguise in the citadel. I think it could be some sort of magical affect. It's not something Billy had because the Lich is only wearing his skin; if he possessed his whole body the guardian blood would've revived Billy
I'm sometimes imagined the ending were Fionna making wishes. First - canonization of her universe; second - make some people magical, because they want to be magical; third - make some people stay normal, like they wish for; fourth - fix everything she and Cake have done in alternate universes.
Great video! I remember watching your old videos about the Adventure Time finale back when it first dropped :) It's good to see you back! Fionna and Cake took me back to the good days of watching Adventure Time DVDs with my sister, and your videos on it are an extension of that! Also, very relatable on the reason for making it hard to upload videos :/
BMO surviving due to them not being technically alive makes sense. But.. What happened to all the other robots in Ooo like the Candy Guardians? Where's Neptr? Is he still playing hide 'n seek?
10:17 I also remember those scenes but I think the flashbacks are for the people who DO NOT remember those episodes and their history since a lot are not really as Die Hard as others and Adventure Time can be a very overwhelming experience that makes you forget a lot of stuff if you weren't deep into it. Even I count myself as a die hard thanks to you but even I forgot those moments.
The thing about the flashbacks is, they weren't nessecarily made for a person that knows everything that ever happened in AT. It was made for everyone else who doesn't remember all those details. Sure I may have watched all of AT, but it's 10 fjucken seafons lol, I don't remember most of it, especially the details. So it was all completely new information and very much needed to flech out and contextualise Simon and Betty relationship.
glad to see you upload again, youre one of my favorite channels not even because im a fan of adventure time but because of your analysis and ideas. i could hear you talk about anything as long as you yourself are interested in it, so dont feel pressured to stick exclusively to adventure time if it ever burns you out. if you do ever talk about other topics but are afraid of it not translating over well with your subscribers just make sure you present it in a way anyone can feel invited to understand without context. theres alot of media out there that would benefit from your analysis and i think you should embrace that
This episode immediately had me wondering about the other inorganic beings in the Adventure Time universe. Did the other Mo's survive? Silly tangent not re: Organic but re: Ooo and the extent of the wish; did the beings of the Nightosphere survive? Lumpy Space? Are they other "worlds" in the way the worlds from Fionna and Cake are, or similarly removed enough from Ooo to count? (Probably not, but it's not impossible.) And probably my favorite angsty thought; are Minerva and her bots all that's left on a set of empty islands? >.>
Hey man, depression is a bummer. I know exactly what you're going through with the on and off again work schedule. Take all the time you need, it's a step by step process! If it makes you feel any better, your video got recommended to me after at least three months of AT inactivity from both me and you, so thus far you're good! 😄
Thank you! Glad the vid got recommended to you. UA-cam has def "nerfed" my channel due to all my breaks over the years; my channel data also indicates that tons of my subscribers don't actually receive note of when I upload a video. But that's nothing new and not worth caring about; I don't wanna pump out half-assed content (assuming my depression even lets me do that, lol) just to keep the algorithm happy, yknow. I accidentally fat-thumbed the other comment you left and deleted it after replying (😓), but what I said was: BMO is basically genderfluid and has had she/her used for em in the series in addition to he/his, though he/his is vastly more common. I've used only he/his in my prior videos for BMO and felt like finally switching it up. Even threw in a they/them just for the heck of it, lol.
On the notion of the simon-betty interactions seeming redundant/unnecessary: while acknowledging that the series is clearly made for existing viewers of adventure time, I would still defend the inclusion of it for very casual fans who may not have seen every episode of the show (or possibly none at all) - watching the main show to understand easter eggs in a spinoff is fine, but writing the main plot of the miniseries with an expectation that you've watched the entire series diligently to understand its details is a big ask. Taking even 'most' of said backstory scenes out would certainly leave the episode with a very tell-don't-show sort of approach to explaining their relationship.
Dude I didn't even remember those things and I rewatched the show last year I think he's not considering that most people didn't memorize every single episode
...new context would not be in the area of "tell, don't show"... Simon simply could've told a story that wasn't a retread of what we already learned about, that would accomplish the same thing for the story.
And when the world needed him most... HE CAME BACK! Love you Uncivilised Elk! I get more excited for your videos than for anyone else's! Hope you're doing better!
It still really is confusing me to if Fionna & Cake wants us to think Simon and Betty’s relationship is wholesome and cute or a horrible mistake lol. Maybe that’s the point but idk
Yeah. That's make sense. For me, because of original series, their relationship was something beautiful and cute, and also tragic and how each of them ready to sacrifice to one another. But, as you said, "Fionna and Cake" making this confusing. If this is beautiful and sacrificial love, then why it's shows only Betty's sacrifices, make us think that Simon was selfish, inattentive and "blind" (and never showing his sacrifices for Betty), and also making this uncomfortable power dynamic between adult professor and young student, and also how Betty somehow doesn't regret her sins (double meaning of her "I have no regrets") if previously said that both of them in fault. And if this love one big mistake for both of them, then why it was shown as something beautiful and significant for both of them. And also creators completly forgot about a real lesson for Simon - sometimes love can be ruined due to unforeseen circumstances. It was magic with madness, the Great Mushroom War and post-apocalyptic survival and so on. And there's nothing we can do about it. What happened, happened. And that can't be change. You need to learn to live with it and move forward. At the same time, appreciate those who were once close to you and who are with you now.
I get where you're coming from with the Simon and Betty flashbacks. On the other hand though they did need to reestablish the relationship and its background for where things went in the finale, especially with this being its own series that will need to make some sense with people who didn't see Adventure Time. Or who hadn't watched the show in the several years since it ended. In some ways this is as much Simon's story as it is the title characters so I think it was important they take the time to show it.
Less on Betty, more on Marcy. Oh, and also about his Ice King PTSD. And moving on from his pain of the past with a help of their friends, old ones (Finn and Marcy) and new ones (Fionna and Cake).
EDIT: Ok I wrote this before I fully finished the video (at about 12:00). I’ll leave it up for posterity. You said exactly what I was thinking. Really happy to see you back! I’m mostly with you on the Simon/Betty segments not adding much, but I actually do think it massively recontextualizes their relationship knowing that Betty was a fan of Simon’s work and also implied to be much younger than him, with him guest lecturing at her college. Before this I always saw it as tragic that Betty gave up her life for Simon, but this added the context that Simon was in a position of power over Betty and didn’t take that into account in their relationship. So while I agree a lot of it felt like just showing things we already knew about, I think the additional information we got is more significant than you gave it credit for.
For me, making Betty younger than Simon and as a fangirl it's really confusing and awkward. It's like a relationship between an adult and a minor. And, ugh, this power dynamic and one-sides relationship. I hate this part of it. Could've be better without it. And also will be great show Simon's sacrifices for Betty too. Because before this spin-off, I thought that they were equal. Even in age. And their tragedy were unpredictable circumstances like war, magic, and madness, what ruined their future married life. And also both of them ready sacrifice everything for each other. Man... I guess it's because of the femagenda and lack of the real and tragic romance nowadays. I'm miss this.
I figure The Lich might've assumed Jerry World's Simon came back to life somehow, perhaps too lazy to read minds now. Or maybe Jerry just knew the whole Ice Crown buisness, and is just acknowledging Simon's return to sanity Also. It hit me that BMO's Princess Bubblegum RP isn't just dumber than actual PB ... the "bravest heart" line feels vaguely Season 1-ish. Or at least, how someone might remember the early seasons.
Do you have notifications enabled to "all" under the subscription bell (or whatever TF it's called) and still didn't get a notification? Fucked up if true, lol. Glad you got to the video eventually though! I'm hoping to release the final 2 F&C reviews next month.
6:39 I see it as a reference to the episode “the lich” where for one frame billy becomes the Lich (which happens to be the episode before the extinction of all life in this one) it also would foreshadow jerry being the lich

Im so glad this video is finaly out I've watched every adventure time video you made as it came out since almost the beginning, i love your analisis. I just want to point out something in regards to simon, while yes we could of definitely seen far more pitiful things from ice king, I think what we saw is more than enough to enlist the reaction and thoughts it did on fiona, as to us Simon and Ice King kind of go hand in hand, we've seen them at their highest and lowest, for fiona she has only seen Simon aa, for the most part, calm and collected older guy, a smart professor thats helping them out of the goodness of his heart (as far as they know since its also partially for betty related reasons) while sure he has been down lately and seemed very depressed at the begining, when they met its clear, he is a human much like her, the ice king on the other hand is absolutely insane and unhinged and yes there is crazier stuff they could of shown and it would of been better for it i think its fine, i just wanted to bring attention to the fact that, to Fiona, the ice king is a drastic change from who Simon is and that was just made abundantly clear to her, if they follow through with their plan they will be basically stripping Simon of his personality and sence of self. Again love your videos cant wait for the next one ^^
Unless you watch all your videos like I have (lol), most viewers havent watched Adventure Time in a long time so the Simon and Betty flashbacks help set the stage for the next episode(s). Unremarkable for those who do remember past AT episodes but ultimately necessary. Glad to see another one of your videos in my feed. 😁
While season 2 could prove me wrong: I think the mundanification thing was already kinda-explained and won't be a plot point going forward. Basically Prismo tells Fionna & Cake that they can't be part of the multiverse because they are like free radicals which would have unpredictable effects on the rest of the multiverse. While it is never stated to be the case - I'm fairly sure that the mundanification thing was literally just this in action; and now that Fionna & Cake have been canonised this really shouldn't be an issue anymore. That being said; the final scene with Prismo did have him glitching, so I guess we'll find out in season 2.
I love your analysis of the flashbacks. I agree -- they feel like they should be fleshing things out, but in reality they're mostly retreading old ground, which contributes to (in my totally subjective opinion) simon and betty's arc falling a little flat.
Especially in a last episodes. When the spin-off trying said one thing (lesson "you can't change the past; unpredictable circumstances are a part of life and there is something good and bad about them."), but, unfortunately, it shows something completely different (blaming Simon for everything even most of the bad stuff was Betty's fault). It's reminding me Steven Universe Season 5 arc about Steven and Connie's drama. When there is a conflict where both sides have a point, but this blaming only Steven and only Steven should be the one who needs to learn a lesson from this. When mostly Connie was in blame. Like, taking Lion with her, when Steven needs Lion to contact with Lars and The Off-Colors, and leaving Steven for weeks without any contact with him.
I feel like Golbetty did what it did because his name is Jerry It's one of these things where your mom asks you if you got bullied by the other cosmic enteties for your name
I just watched Fionna and cake and the whole series really left me quite torn. I was counting on you to give a great breakdown but alas that doesn’t seem to exist:( hope you’re doing okay dude ❤
I think the whole use of flashbacks to Simon and Betty in this episode was to reveal that Simon and Betty’s relationship was a little toxic and one-sided. That’s something the main show never really dove into and since it’s so important for the finale, I definitely think the flashbacks are warranted.
For me, mostly from Betty's side (because in OG series she abused Ice King and using their friends for her own stuff) and that Simon always following her.
What a crazy coincidence! I’ve literally owned the physical Card Wars decks for years but never played the game properly since I found it too complicated as a kid but literally YESTERDAY out of nowhere my brother and I decided to get them all out and properly play the game for the first time. What insane timing!

this does make a question: is bmo not considered life
@@Thesmusummm... He's a robot, not a real living human or something.
@@КатяКалинина-х6м yeah but bmo is technically alive, with a heart and all
just thinking about how technical the wish of extinction of life was
@@Thesmus hmmm. Well, yeah, it is confusing. Should've BMo be dead as others, because of the wish? Weird...
@@Thesmus BMO visiting the Lich all the time is the "monkey's paw" part of the Lich's wish
love how subtly different and more detailed the lich is in this episode
Billy's skin is literally degrading off of him. I loved that.
@@RAINBOWNIGTHMAREPRODUCTIONS Even if all the bacteria that'd decompose Billy's remains are dead the elements and lack of natural healing were gonna wear down the skin
His design is even more terrifying💀 well done to the designers
Yes omg!!! I LOVED playing card wars on my old nabi as a little kid. I actually got the physical game but never played it lol 😭😭
Last I checked you could still buy some physical decks on AZ - I have almost all of the originals except the team play set.
Oof, just checked, and some of the deck sets are still available but because they’re out of print now, I guess, the prices are going up a lot
He's actually just canonically inspired by this: B)
I thought his name was just based off of Prismo’s.
Prism-o, Orb-o. Y’kno?
3:23 You know, that means that from the Bonnibel’s perspective, Finn, Jake and the Lich entered a portal and then she immediately died. That must’ve been quite strange for the (technically, conveniently missing) Gumball Guardians to witness.
Also, I would have wanted to see the robot version of Bonnibel as the ruler of the Candy Kingdom instead of BMO. It would’ve been interesting to see how she’d have reacted to her entire purpose for existing cease to exist.
You mean Robo-Bonnie from "The Suitor"? Yeah... That's make sense.
she wouldnt exist in tthis timeline @@КатяКалинина-х6м
i love that concept, but it wouldn’t make sense for p-bot to exist because bonnie didn’t make her until later in s5, which wouldn’t be possible if she had died during the s4 finale/s5 premiere
@@FlyingPotatoChickens Ahhh, my bad. I didn’t take the timeline into account. 😅😅
And what about NEPTR and other MO's? What about them, too?!
@@КатяКалинина-х6м They're robots so they're fine.
@@КатяКалинина-х6м NEPTR was alive thanks to magic, and wasn't actually a functional robot, so NEPTR would die just like all the sentient food. BMO was just metal and electricity. The other Mo's were AllMo by this point, and who knows where they went.
@@9nikola good point.
The Jerry reveal was probably my favourite moment in this season. I literally stood up, jaw dropped, hands on my head, eyes gaping.
For me it was the ending scene of Jerry, with the portal opening up and Golb lighting up in the Lich's eye.
I've just discovered your lovely channel through this playlist and I hope to see more. More than that, I see you don't post consistently - I struggle with depression as well, and small delights like your analyses help me. I hope you are okay can experience moments of joy as well. Stay strong.
I can't get over the "MLE" comic book that falls out of Fionnas bag 😂 such a fun and sma detail
You are strong, child.
But, I am beyond strength.
I am the end.
And, I have come for you, Finn.
The quality of your analysis is always worth the wait and your videos are a pleasant delight when they grace my feed
Its been 7 months, hope ur doing okay dude!
Yes I love Uncivilized Elk~!
14:57 I'm not entirely sure this universe is a result of the Lich's wish from S5. You can see Finn's note from "The Temple of Mars" in the background. Perhaps The Lich won at some other point in the timeline in this universe?
Or Finn just leaves those notes often. The Lich having Billy’s skin on makes it pretty clearly the Season 5 Wish imo
I think the implication is that Finn has been signing his name that way even before Season 5 (kinda the same way they retroactively made Ice King know "Everything Stays" before S5). I'm surprised they decided to include the note though given that it could cause that confusion.
@@uncivilizedelkgiven that’s also how Finn’s signature looks on his passport in “Too Old” it’s definitely how he usually does it.
@@uncivilizedelkI feel like the intent here was to play it pretty loose in terms of confirming when exactly the Lich won and basically let the viewer draw their own conclusions, otherwise like you said putting that note there leaves potential for confusion
What background
Where is it
So glad to see another review - instantly my must watch video of the day! But even more glad you're taking the time necessary for your mental health, looking forward to the next review regardless of how much time you need
i think Jerry being depressed could also be from the whole monkeys paw part of Prismos wishes
THE GOAT IS BAAAAACKKKKK!!!
Anyways, the end of this episode had my jaw on the floor lol.
The Lich will always surprise me I suppose lmao
Something weird about the next episode, when the Lich rips off Billy’s skin he has a little piece of metal over his heart
The piece of metal is present on him when he burns off the disguise in the citadel. I think it could be some sort of magical affect. It's not something Billy had because the Lich is only wearing his skin; if he possessed his whole body the guardian blood would've revived Billy
I can imagine Fionna’s still got some trauma from all this.
How couldn’t this all make her regret everything she wanted?
I'm sometimes imagined the ending were Fionna making wishes. First - canonization of her universe; second - make some people magical, because they want to be magical; third - make some people stay normal, like they wish for; fourth - fix everything she and Cake have done in alternate universes.
its an amazing day when Uncivilized Elk posts
YES IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS AFTER BINGING YOUR VIDEOS A FEW WEEKS AGO!!!
I’m so glad Fiona and cake was based around Simon. He didn’t have enough screen time in Distant lands, and he clearly didn’t have closure.
BMO surviving due to them not being technically alive makes sense. But.. What happened to all the other robots in Ooo like the Candy Guardians? Where's Neptr? Is he still playing hide 'n seek?
I’ve missed you, Elk. You’re my fav when it comes to Cartoon analysis/lore/speculation. Keep up the good work!! Love you bro
In the trailer I thought bmo was gonna be the conductor for the dungeon train due to the owl mask looking like a conductor hat
Or maybe.... Infinity Train?
This episode is hands down my favorite episode of the season
So glad to see this. Also very glad to hear about the Card Wars Kickstarter before it was too late.
Keep at it!
Im sorry to hear about your depression, for what it's worth i think your vids are wonderful and i love watching em!
So it was all completely new information and very much needed to flech out and contextualise Simon and Betty relationship.
glad to see you upload again, youre one of my favorite channels not even because im a fan of adventure time but because of your analysis and ideas. i could hear you talk about anything as long as you yourself are interested in it, so dont feel pressured to stick exclusively to adventure time if it ever burns you out.
if you do ever talk about other topics but are afraid of it not translating over well with your subscribers just make sure you present it in a way anyone can feel invited to understand without context. theres alot of media out there that would benefit from your analysis and i think you should embrace that
Hey bro! You alright? Sending positive vibes
(Probably not, but it's not impossible.)
And probably my favorite angsty thought; are Minerva and her bots all that's left on a set of empty islands?
I accidentally fat-thumbed the other comment you left and deleted it after replying (😓), but what I said was:
BMO is basically genderfluid and has had she/her used for em in the series in addition to he/his, though he/his is vastly more common. I've used only he/his in my prior videos for BMO and felt like finally switching it up. Even threw in a they/them just for the heck of it, lol.
always looking forward to your videos :)
Thank you!!
Dude I didn't even remember those things and I rewatched the show last year
I think he's not considering that most people didn't memorize every single episode
...new context would not be in the area of "tell, don't show"...
Simon simply could've told a story that wasn't a retread of what we already learned about, that would accomplish the same thing for the story.
@@SonicmaniaVideos And then people who don't remember 4 lines of dialogue from an episode of adventure time won't know how Betty and Simon met.
It's not mandatory to know the specifics of how Simon and Betty first met to tell the story they were going for, though.
And when the world needed him most... HE CAME BACK! Love you Uncivilised Elk! I get more excited for your videos than for anyone else's! Hope you're doing better!
I still laugh LOUDLY every time when simon gets whacked by the cherrys
In some ways this is as much Simon's story as it is the title characters so I think it was important they take the time to show it.
hey, I just catch up on fiona and cake and come back here to see your analysis, is awesome to come back to my friends and your work, hope see you back
Hope youre doing well man! always a joy to hear from you, analysis or not
I really think the show should have been about Simon’s relationship with Marcy, about how he needs to move on
Yeah, A missed opportunity.
But for me, it should be more about Simon reconnecting with his friends that he could be living for.
Always glad to see you post a new video Elk :)
I figure The Lich might've assumed Jerry World's Simon came back to life somehow, perhaps too lazy to read minds now.
Or maybe Jerry just knew the whole Ice Crown buisness, and is just acknowledging Simon's return to sanity
Also.
It hit me that BMO's Princess Bubblegum RP isn't just dumber than actual PB ... the "bravest heart" line feels vaguely Season 1-ish. Or at least, how someone might remember the early seasons.
Never got the notification for this or your last video but stoked your back! Can’t wait for the next videos!
Do you have notifications enabled to "all" under the subscription bell (or whatever TF it's called) and still didn't get a notification? Fucked up if true, lol. Glad you got to the video eventually though! I'm hoping to release the final 2 F&C reviews next month.

Will be great if "Free Radical Plague" will be a focus of season 2. And how Fionna and Cake (and, maybe, Simon (?)) should've fix this mess.
I also felt like that scene w betty and simon was just aesthetic fluff lol. I'm glad someone understands.
I feel like Golbetty did what it did because his name is Jerry
It's one of these things where your mom asks you if you got bullied by the other cosmic enteties for your name
I remember playing Card Wars on my Ipod 4. It didn't always work, but I loved it none the less
I’m happy you’re back!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ love your content and I hope you’re doing well!!!!
Fun fact that Orbo is voiced by David McCormack, who is the voice of Bluey’s dad Bandit.
What a crazy coincidence! I’ve literally owned the physical Card Wars decks for years but never played the game properly since I found it too complicated as a kid but literally YESTERDAY out of nowhere my brother and I decided to get them all out and properly play the game for the first time. What insane timing!
If it was NEPTR instead of BMO everything would have been solved in an instant.
I'm absolutely jealous of anyone who didn't guess who Jerry was until the reveal. It didn't take long for my friend and I to realize this was the lich's wish verse and as soon as we saw they were going to see Jerry I knew
Hope he is ok and doing great. I'm unsub every channel that didn't update for a year 😢 this is one of them. AT was my precious fav cartoon.
Poor bmo
They was doomed anyways, running out of batteries.
At least they went out trying to save their friends
Ngl this is probably my favorite episode of F&C, and one of my all-time favorite Adventure Time things.
