looking back, the taliban checkpoint guards (and war commander) happily answered his questions and stated their beliefs to the camera. These guys just started playing whack-a-mole.
That's not true. There were many, many times he couldn't film at all.

Communism is mastery of hypocrisy and excuses for contradiction. The word "propaganda" is misused a lot, but used correctly communism has mastered it as "associating ideas so that people won't be able to think for themselves and just accept them as common sense/truth"
They have, through propaganda, associated ideas like "we are the resistance fighting for freedom" to the point they need not think at all about what any of that or their actions mean The communist induced idea comes first and foremost as a justification for everything they do: "I'm fighting for freedom, that's why I can censor and prohibit, but you can't", "I am tolerant and peaceful, so I can use threats and violence, but nobody else can", "I care for the lower class, that's why I'll insult the poor and uneducated and wish they didn't have the right to vote in case they voted conservative", etc.
For them it is common sense. In the face of asking for an explanation they are as confused as you would be to explain why the sun is bright. If you point out any hypocrisy they remain silent and avoid answering because communism can't survive under close scrutiny, only through propaganda that demands thinking as little as possible
Random thought: Have you ever tried having one guy with a fake camera and the other with a hidden camera (say hidden in shirt pocket)? Think it'll be hilarious getting them doing their little dance while you get some decent footage.

I had to do some digging on this. But nothing comes up. They have been vocal about issues such as racism, capitalism, imperialism, censorship and police brutality. They have also participated in protests and boycotts against various governments and corporations. As far as I know, they have not changed their political stance in recent years. They are still committed to fighting against injustice and oppression. They have also donated money to various causes and organizations that align with their values. Heck, even Bing ChatGPT can't find anything to support your claim.

I don't know what there reasoning is.
But here in the States people on the left get a bit nervous when people on the right try to film them.
One of the main reasons is that In America, left wing protestors will often have the number of a family member or close friend written on their arms. So that way if they are arrested and their phone is taken away. Then some one who's friendly to the cause will see that number written on their arm. Then call that number to let their family know they've been arrested.
But then Right wing people in the US started to take pictures of those numbers written on the protestors arms. To share with followers. So that said followers would call and harass that persons contact.
So that's why people at alot of those protests are so on edge. They want to go out and they want to protest. But they don't want to be doxed, or given death threats.
You lot seem all right. But there are a lot of people who willing to dox some 18 year old taking part in their first protest.

I remember one story in particular : RATM tickets for their reunion tour were announced for 200$. Tom tweeted those were fake / resellers, and tickets would only cost 125$ maximum + venue & ticket fees. But they did that tour in the most expensive venues on top of insane fees from ticketmaster. In the end, for some venues, you had to pay about 850-900$ total

I don't understand the whole point of a protest is to bring attention to whatever you're protesting. So why wouldn't you want to be filmed to draw attention to your cause?
If they're embarrassed or ashamed to be filmed for doing what you're doing and maybe their cause isn't something worth fighting for.
