Exactly. Someone who has premonitions is called a precognitive empath. Precognitive empaths have the ability to have premonitions about the future, either while they are awake or in their dreams. They can receive these premonitions spontaneously or intentionally. Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner in Arrival was one of the best.
@@DarrylRaymondLerette-g2q it happened to me--in a much more subtle way--before. I was watching rare recorded videos of the aftermath of the 1999 earthquake in Turkey, which claimed thousands. My wife, who's Korean even asked about it and I explained her. The following night an earthquake with a aimilar severity occured in Turkey and claimed thousands. It was the Maras Earthquake.
i think regardless of whether or not the storm is real, the importance is in that his wife sees the same issue he sees for the first time. its a beautiful show of empathy and these two finally get to be on the same page and she UNDERSTANDS now.
The storm is a representation of the angst Curtis feels as the father of a rural, blue-collar, middle-class family in the Rust Belt. The storm represents many symbols, disclosed in the film, of the knife's edge any family in that position lives under. The daughter's deafness and the required medical care that goes with it, Curtis's schizophrenic mother and his responsibility to be caretaker, Curtis's own potential schizophrenia and the financial ruin it would put his family in, and so on. To summarize, these Rust Belt families see themselves in Curtis: One missed paycheck, one bad medical diagnosis, etc., can all lead to "ruin" financially, emotionally, mentally, and physically. But the beauty of this scene lies in its message. Whereas before Curtis wanted to hide from the potential disasters that surrounded his family from all directions in a "shelter," he now knows to "take shelter" with his family, because facing a storm together as a family unit is the only answer to the middle-class angst America's rural families feel daily. Take Shelter is one of the best films of the 2010s, hands down.
@@stipulatedboss Agreed! I see a lot of people saying the ending was about his family learning to accept him, but I think it's more about him learning to have the security that no matter the storm his family will stay by him through it all.
Do you guys notices that his co worker dewalt did attack him during the party And Curtis kicked him in the leg during the fight? Like his dream Dewalt stuck the pic axe into Curtis leg.
Just as he saw in his vision with his wife drenched, the knife symbolizing she does him harm. She brought them to the beach to die. I was hoping the storm was a ways off happening in their home city but it looks like a tsunami and waterspout tornadoes off the coast of Myrtle Beach, they wouldn't be able to outrun it or take shelter. The irony.
There's something about this movie that reminds me of prophets like Moses, Jesus, and Mohammed, peace be upon them They always warned people about what was going to happen They were called liars, mocked and accused of madness by many people! But I am not one of those, I believe them and their massage. Read
My interpretation differs. I believe that the ending was not real. They couldn’t afford to go on the beach holiday, especially as he lost his job and they are in a lot of debt plus medical bills etc. Also, he kept saying that he will never leave his family, therefor I believe he did not take the advice from the psychiatrist and was not admitted to the hospital. In result, shortly thereafter he got much worse and either just imagined the ending or this was yet another vivid dream but stronger.
Just watched this for the first time. Remember when they said they couldn't afford a beach house? ? This is a dream of his the night after he finally sees the Columbus specialist. There happened to be a severe storm when they all went in the shelter...but he kept them hostage for hours....they could've locked him up.
magnifique film je le conseille à tous reflexion sur ce que nous faisons de ce monde notre mode de vie qui détruit la planéte il n'est peut être pas trop tard réveillons nous
It’s nice a very good ending. I just kind of wish the movie also talked about what was causing the storm. I mean I know that’s not the movies intentions but when you have a storm like that, you kind of wanna know more like what are the details what’s causing the storm? This is an act of God or the man can screw up?
He finally finds his shelter, not the box he built, but his family.
This comment literally made me tear up! Very well said. Powerful!❤
Great, now she listens. Just in time. Classic dumb broad behavior.
Look at those waves too... fantastic movie.
The music is perfect.
One of the best final scenes ever!
Totally, I just watched it earlier this evening and I am still feeling pretty uneasy and a little creeped out.
I love how they never explain why he has these premonitions and leave it to your interpretation.
No one in the Midwest would have been up in his business like people were in this film. I’m speaking from experience. Great movie though.
So good. I just watched this last night. WOW
Curtis wasn't having hallucinations, he was having premonitions. This film is amazing.
He should have built a tsunami shelter then??

This reminds me of a typical day at a beach in Britain.
In June 2024. Not far off like that where I am now...
This still haunts me.
Strange, how fast the cloud moves, and the tsunami and the tornados? Amazing plot.
It seems simple. They are about to die from the storm, and she realizes he was right; he doesn't have schizophrenia. A somber but completed ending.
This is just another dream of his . The storm is just a representation of the storm building up in him and now it affecting his family. Great movie

This is mesmerizing misery arriving to eradicate doubt! Unbelievable ending! Absolute horror. Sublime masterpiece!
A chaque fois que je vois ce final je suis ému. Quel film. Magnifique.
The director is Brothers with Ben Nichols of Lucero.
Jeff asked if ben would do a song for this film...
He absolutely killed it.
There won't be a second part because they all die. The tsunami is visible and on the way and there is nowhere to run. The end.
Intriguingly provocative scene guiding us as observers into a collapsing world set before us.

i came back here again....i totally missed the tsunami. wow
His daughter & wife felt it before him amazing
He was drugged up. Doctor's orders.
guys, TAKE SHELTER
Far away was that a tsumani
Yes
Is it just me? Or does anyone else noticed that the water is receding? Tsunami 🌊
Yeah. They're bascially dead at that point. All because the wife wanted to go to the beach instead of staying at the apocalypse shelter.
It depends. A storm like no other. Ergo tornadoes and blood rain. I don't think a tsunami is guaranteed.

Why is the rain a yellow substance?
Is raining oil
Clouds dehydrated , it should drink some water.
Longstreet. is. very underrated. most. of. people acting. are so natural. jessica chastain. i always. worship. her.
Got stocks in the dots?
I lived in Myrtle Beach for 8 years, before that my parents took me there on vacation. It never rained motor oil or had a tidal wave

And after she said "ok." They rushed to their car and drove inland and up the mountain. They survived the storm.
That's what I wanted to believe.
There hat been no storm
Unfortunately, they are dead. You can see the tsunami is gaining height rapidly just a few hundred meeter from them.

moral of the story: Women ruin everything. This poor dude knew what was coming, tried to save everyone and his wife made him stop
