    I love how his best, realest, and closest friends - the ones he planned to grow old living down the street from - are all genuinely happy that he took his ticket and got the fuck out of there. They all wanted so much more and better for him; they didn’t wanna hold him back/down there in South Boston with them and their mediocre (but still honorable) lives. They wanted him to have all the kinds of better that a human being can have in his/her life; and to transcend all of that place, as he was more than able to do with the level of mega-genius that he had. They loved him unconditionally; and through that love, they wanted him to leave them behind and spread his *huge* wings and just go fuckin flying all over this simple little world already. It takes a next-level degree of best-friend love to want your buddy to leave you behind and do what he was born to do, instead of stickin it out through life with you.

    The “Son of a bitch. He stole my line” was improvised on the spot by Robin Williams. Matt Damon said Williams did about 15 takes of this scene. He only said this line once, in the middle of all the takes he would do for this scene, and never said it again afterwards. It was decided to use this take because it was the best one from all the takes.

    • @Jared_Wignall
      @Jared_Wignall 3 роки тому +54

      @@MidwestFarmToys there’s some arguments as to how many takes. Damon was there on the set as well to read the lines Robin is reading so he could react at the right time. But the bottom line is in the middle of however many takes it took to do that scene, Robin just said that on the spot with no warning to anyone and the director liked that take enough to put it in the movie. I know this response is late, but just for some context as to why Damon said the scene was shot about 15 times.

      It's actually not bullshit. There are people (they are incredibly rare) who have insights that even leaders in their respective fields can't see. 2:55 can we just talk about how haunting the end of this movie is? The final lines belong to Robin Williams, while Elliot Smith sings "Miss Misery." What a perfect song that Elliott wrote just for this film, and what a perfect line that Robin improvised. Two absolute legends who were lost way too soon, here at the peak of their talent, conspire to make those final shots of a car driving westward, through the Allegheny pines so much more poignant. In the years since this movie was made, that's all taken on a real unexpected gravity.

    This movie truly shows the beauty of friendship. Though it must've hurt Chuckie that Will left without saying anything (which he always wished for) but he is ultimately happy because he can think that Will would be somewhere he truly belongs rather than ending his life in a place that didn't give him the space to shine. Absolutely one of my favourite movies. And the fact that Damon and Affleck are best friends makes me feel that such a bond can truly exist.

    The one thing that I always loved about Robin Williams is his ability to do solid drama. While I did enjoy his comedy films, I felt he was always great doing drama. Good Will Hunting, The Fisher King, Dead Poets Society, are just a few of his best films. The best part? I will always remember him for his role from Mork & Mindy, whom I grew up watching during the 70's and 80's. He's just one of those rare actors that comes along who can make you laugh, make you cry, make you stand up and look at yourself in the mirror. he is, forevermore, a consummate actor.

He realizes that Will left, and while he is happy about it, he's sad that his best friend won't be there with him every day. That that part of their life together is over forever. And he's suppressing that bittersweet emotion with that awkward smile as he walks back to the car and tells the rest of them that Will is gone.

    When that show ended, I joined hundreds of millions of people watching him do appearances on various TV series, late night talk shows (especially with the late great Johnny Carson), standup routines, and dozens of movies.
    This guy made so many people laugh and cry, then we all cried for the last time when he couldn't go on living.
