Yeah I was gonna say, it reminds me of enders game, but this would be like a current Gen game, and enders game would be like PS10 or whatever we have in 50 years. Or maybe we could reach ender games level graphics in as little as 30 years.

Interesting Point. This is gameplay footage of the dev fighting four other players at the same time. He brought 11000ish points with the other team having 3000points each per fleet (totalling 12k).

True. RTS games are mostly niche with dedicated fans who care mostly about game mechanics, balance, and stability than super duper RTX enabled graphics. Just make something for your audience and they will gladly buy it.

By the sound of it, it also has a bit of similarity to Highfleet in the depth of ship and fleet design, especially with jamming and sensor capabilities, though I haven't actually had a chance to play Nebulous yet so I might be wrong

You practically need a degree in astrophysics to get the most out of the missile gameplay, but the payoff of seeing two dozen missiles slam into an enemy cruiser fleet is worth it.

There's actually people working on an Expanse mod. It's got a pretty decent roster so far. Morrigan, Rocinate (called the Tachi-class), Serrio Mal (called the Orion-class), Pella and Scirocco implemented so far with the Donnager currently being worked on.

@@piragintheevercorpulent1526 I hoped there would be. Still amazes me there's never been any kind of Expanse mod for games like Homeworld or Galactic Civilizations to be honest. I really hope the Telltale game does well, it obviously won't have much to do with ship-to-ship engagements in a deep strategy sense like Nebulous but it can get it back out there in focus. Once we've got one game, a second is more likely, even if it's the same, a second could mean a third where someone tries something different. Fuck I hope. I mean, I'd give a kidney.

it can be modded to fit any sci-fi verse out there and still be amazing.
This game offers so much depth to all systems and parts of space battles, that its insane.
I hope to see a Honorverse mod for this, this may be the only game that can properly simulate the complex combat mechanics created for that universe. From the missiles barrages, to the complex counter-missile systems and beyond, this is the only game that I know that can properly do it justice.

And with the included mod support, it will be interesting to see the great space media franchises go head to head in the future.

  • @Android_ELITE

I played this a lot on release week. Love it. If you wanna try a viable tactic that isn't difficult and requires minimal understanding of mechanics, make a gun cruiser fleet. Set up a light cruiser with a bunch of guns, give it basic point defense (maybe some interceptor missiles for good measure), and a decent amount of damage control. If it's not totally maxed out, you can probably afford 3 of them in a 3000pt match. Otherwise, take 2 and fill the remaining points with whatever you want. A point-defense frigate is a great low-effort pick. All you do with this fleet is hug the rocks and try to get in close without being seen or taking too much fire. Once you're in gun range, open up. AP ammo on battleships and heavy cruisers, depending on your gun choice, and HE on everything else. Bonus points if you have the multifunction radar or a fire control radar, because you can burn through radar jamming and lock targets to keep them 100% tracked for firing. Simple fleet and simple tactic that can get you some good participation in matches even with a lower level of skill and knowledge.

    • @Kitkat-986

I went hard on missiles right from the start and never looked back. With the missile update, I've been designing custom missiles which are far more capable than the stock designs while remaining relatively cheap. They have remain viable even with the advent of hybrid missiles and with the release of the OSP.

Arch (Warhammer) did a video on this a while back, and I am still utterly impressed by the level of depth to this game. If they add in conquest (so having to manage your forces over many battles, and think ahead to the next conflict, and resources you can scrounge up) this game is going to be legendary. Not "sold a billion copies" legendary, but "one of the best games of all time" legendary. It's already superb. I hope it only gets better.

I'm really not lying this is still in early access and it has a beautiful set of tutorials to get you started and then you are pitched into the Marianas Trench of gameplay depth! The game play, ship, and the insanely detailed weapons and systems customization are almost beyond belief. @Kitkat-986 Рік тому

A bit, yeah. COADE always had a really un-intuitive control scheme which made it hard to perform basic tasks imo. Setting an intercept for example was unnecessarily complex.
In Nebulous, the controls are only as complex as they need to be. Yes, the game lacks orbital mechanics, but it has just as much if not more detail in the missile warfare. It's a little like a modern naval combat sim where you try to spot the enemy first, then destroy them with overwhelming salvos of missiles before they can respond in kind. Fleets with strong PD coverage can weather missile salvos and close in for close range gunnery duels.

I can defeat many of the top players it they are unprepared for my signature tactic which is to fire huge salvos of very cheap but effective missiles. While skill is a huge factor in this game, using the right tactics can allow you to beat a "better" player if you catch them by surprise with a strategy they weren't prepared for.

maybe it's a age thing, but I'm tiered of easy to do games with little to no realism. I still don't get why a dungeon boss in the shape of a beast, drops human size gear or mount. or how can a character brew a potion in the middle of a jungle with no equipment or preparation. I want something with a foot in reality, a little bit of difficulty is actually enjoyable, because without it there is no sense of accomplishment.

Excess of realism has destroyed a lot of games. It can become unbearable.

@@feliperisseto9113 I don't tink it's an excess persé in those cases, just focusing on the wrong things.
When you add realism that doesn't add gameplay depth it often becomes an annoyance.
When you add realism to increase gameplay depth, it can become a marvel.
The thing is, the former is easy to do, the second is hard...
Few games, if any would be able to ironically (not as a goof) add a toilet mechanic and have it increase enjoyment. (maybe only the sims or something)

To be honest, after playing X4: Foundations, i can never play any other space strategy game, it literally is Stellaris in FPS, with real time strategy and emergent gameplay.
By the way, is the only game where i can just enter in a fighter take the controls, fly towards a target dispense all my missiles, and go dock in a resupply ship to repeat all over again or i can simply dock my fighter into a carrier and just strategize the battle from the bridge, or the just go to my HQ and control the battle from an entire different star system.
Also you can explore, you can talk with npcs, theres some RPG elements and stories.

Looks TOO good to be true. I just completed last book in The Expanse series and I definitely like concept and approach. 1000 times better than Todd's the liar starfiled abomination. I have a strict rule to not touch games for 6 months after full release (highly recommended, saves TONS of money and time), so added to steam wishlist.

Well your really going to enjoy what you get when this leaves early access there's already an Expanse themed mod with a fair chunk of the MCRN navy, Hope I'm not overselling it but Building a formation of martian ships with overlapping fields of fire and finding out what works balancing out offensive and defensive systems with each hull being a fairly different layout/force multiplier is genuninely some of the most fun I've had in a game in quite a few years.

I love how N:FC getting more and more love and I wish that upcoming Ephemeris (or whatever it will be named on release) will get as much love as possible.
There is two reasons why I can't and probably won't spend much time on the "N:FC" though:
    1) It is overwhelming. IRL fleet commander will never be required to get so much control over the ships under their command. Each ship should have own autonomous team with a captain that can make most of tedious micro control decisions to hit the designated targets and stay alive while doing so. I understand the decision of doing so and actually love that you can do it and achieve great results with it. But having an option to toggle AI captains on ships would increase the game's accessibility. That said I'd love to lure/force 3-9 of my friends to try and play some battles where each player commands single ship. Would be really interesting experience.
    2) Derives from the 1. Too much time required to get at least somewhat good. And most people will most likely fail to find such amounts of a free time =(
bonus) every minute I spend on it I feel like I'm cheating on the Stellar Warfare ^^
I absolutely love the project, and glad it is getting so good reputation. Now I can refer to it whenever next marketing person will say to me that "it is not worth the time to make a space RTS with a realistic ship behavior". 😅😈

This has been on my wishlist for a while now, and I can't decide about pulling the trigger on it (just found this video because it's on sale now). I love space games, I like strategy and micromanagement... But I am very casual, with limited time for videogames, and I wonder if I will really enjoy this without being able to sink a few hours in a row...

This game's mechanics are deep, but it has a very good set of tutorials which will walk you through them. The movement controls were a little weird for me at first, but I got the hang of them fairly quickly, and within a few hours, I was slinging blind missile salvos around asteroids and landing hits. It's a lot of fun, and I'd recommend it if you're a fan of strategy games.

It might just be me, but I think saying this is an RTS is somewhat misleading. Outside of ship design, its an entirely tactical game; no base-building, and the only changes you can really make to your composition is in between games.
