This game was buried in my wishlist from the time it was Early Access. With this review I see that it is right up my alley and seems to be doing what "Battle Brothers" was not, so I am buying this, full price. Indie devs that make good games deserve our support. Wait for the massive price drops and offers on AAA games, but *not* indie games, fellows.
I'm SOLD. I was just got game pass for my Xbox and looking through the games to pick one or a few to try out. And lol it's funny but this comment (which I am assuming that it's true lol) sold me on this game. Looks like a good game. It's the RPG style I like. It looks Kinda like a diablo 2 graphic style from videos I've seen. Lol but again this comment tipped me towards this game. thank you!
I love the customization of your crew in this game. It definitely deserves a spotlight. I've recommended it on other channels when they ask for cool games to play. One of my wolves died and I buried him where he got killed, with a tombstone that read "Our dearest Alpha. You will be replaced." Just a great game overall.
Ignore the graphics and give Battle Brothers a try. That is the hardcore version of which Wartales originated from, made by a small german Indie Studio.
as a viewer who found your channel and subbed after you had started drifting away from games its nice to see a different vid its a breath of fresh air, one can only handle so much of the crazy shit going on in the world rn
Hands down the best review of this game. I am 45 hours in... and I was tempted to restart after many "I wish I knew this earlier." Can't give up on my team though.
I was absolutely blown away by this game. All my expectations were far surpassed and I felt I needed to tell all my friends about this game as well. Glad to see that I wasn't the only one who fell in love with it!
This is one of the few games that i actively avoided guides and spoilers just to have the joy of discovery of new gameplay mechanics or simpley new regions
I would suggest doing this, but there are some mechanics which aren't explained. I tend to try a hybrid model where 'searching online' can be the equivalent of asking someone in game for advice.
This game was literally made for me. Love Wartales. Simple and deep. Reminds me of Mount & Blade series. All the systems connect so well. Very satisfying experience.
I really enjoy your review that expresses your opinions and thoughts in a humble yet respectful manner, adding nuances here and there that give a thorough but casual and honest overview of the game. Thanks for reviewing this and hope you'll carry on with some more!
I bought this game after watching your video today when i saw it was on sales. Hopefully i can play it soon (find time) and enjoy it! Thank you for such a good video!
I had this feeling when diving into Romance of the Three Kingdoms VII and VIII. These games had me discovering new things about them even after 7+ years of playing.
Lol it's 02:40 AM over here and there I am playing wartales when the notification for this video drops. UEG, you're a man of good taste. Glad you like the Bordeaux boys' work!
Hearing UE talking about something he's passionate and knowledgeable about- that DOESN'T involve tragedy, incompetence or malevolence- is a really nice throwback. Don't forget to come up for air every once on a while, man.
My first love (when I was young) was X-Com, and, boy, they did surpass it and made it sublime here... Both with the combat system and the overall management. I never saw you reviewing games before, I only discovered you when you were covering actuality - but I have to admit, I will listen to your opinions about games too...
I was having a blast playing the game, but things got a bit overwhelming when my party grew to around 14 characters. It became challenging for me to keep track of everyone during combat, and most importantly, I didn't feel a strong attachment to them.
Shiro Games is a very cool indie company. I have never heard about their games before, but the free open source tools they release for game development are amazing!
Entirely agreeeeeeeeeed!. Top 10 games of my entire life. Best? no but damage close. Let's see where it goes and how much DLC can be gobbled up... And maybe up the ladder.
Well said, good man, well said! What you said are exactly my thoughts and also kind of what happened to me also. This game does not hold your hand, but the farther you go, the more you learn and do and you care. I am surprised this game does not get mentioned at all for Indie game nominations. Quick note...The Multi-Player Coop is really good also. I have over 200 hours total and though still enjoying BG3, I will be coming back to play this again. Peace
Glad you talked about this. I'd say Wartales sits somewhere between Battle Brothers and Bannerlord. It's closer in design to the former. But more forgiving. But it looks closer to Bannerlord. And it has the baked in world lore and history of that game. Whereas BB uses randomized map seeds. Wartales does a brilliant job of making you care about that world. So many games have a big idea of what they want to do. But they don't make systems that support it (midnight suns, here). But Wartales is the opposite. It isn't trying for a great high concept. It's a mercenary story. Your own low magic Black Company, as it were. But it does everything that makes up that concept well. And most of it unobtrusively so. Very well could be my game of the year.
My merc company took the coat of arms of the boar, because that was what they mostly tamed out in the wilds. I had a big frontline of boars, and they are great tanky boys. I really dig this game.
War tales looks like a slightly more advanced 3D version of Battle Brothers, you could check that game too, perhaps you might enjoy it? try to mod the game if possible though, for it shines with mods.
I was honestly really on the fence for this one, but your review convinced me to get it. Don't know when I'll be able to get around playing it, or if I'll even like it or otherwise find it way too daunting (even though I love turn based strategy games), but I always respect when a game goes above and beyond to polish its systems the way this one does. Thanks for the review! Would definitely love to see more. Edit: Played it for a while. Yeah, it's really THAT good. Genuinely surprised how easily I just dove into its many systems without even thinking about it.
This game just dropped on game pass on console so I looked it up because I never heard of it before. After all the praise I downloaded it. Haven't started it yet but after watching this video I'm gonna start it today when I get off of work
Ive not been playing for long and i was playing on adaptive for my first play through, i was genuinely gutted when all my men got smashed by mattaus lund on my first go lol i actually cant wait to start again
"I got to play games... Video games" clarification hits hard, whether intentional or Freudian. You are absolutely killing the investigative journalism but I can see just from the insane research you do that it could easily be all consuming. But also the fact that you have to deal with all of the BS and game playing of these UA-camrs etc. It could have been completely innocuous but in the context of everything, really hit the nostalgia nerve for the less complicated times. Here's to games... Video Games! Appreciate you UE.
If you liked wartales so much try Battle Brothers, it's very similar mercenary band simulator with great tactical gameplay and company managment. Writting in that game is excellent, fights are brutal and just like in wartales you can get attached to your brothers if not more so since losing one of your good mercs is tough pill to swallow. DLCs provide you with more enemy variation which require different tactics, more backgrounds for characters, new items, places, events and starting origins. It would be great for indie spotlight and so more people could know of this great game.
Sounds like one of those magical types of experiences that we all are kind of looking for. Have you ever played any of the Dominions games? Similar vibe of discovery for me.
Right? Dude is straight to the point, no glam or show, just pragmatic and passionate gamer that shares thinks succinctly. It's refreshing to see that. I think this dude should hit 1 mil subscribers.
Thanks for this video! Game looked too good to be true without ever hearing about it before really and it is definitely an instant purchase for me. Im a huge fan of fire emblem, xcom, management games but to have it all in one seems amazing. ❤
I was looking for a more dynamic alternative to Crusader Kings 2, where I want to actually get in the meat of the adventuring. Being a ruler is good and all but sometimes, meeting the ground really makes everything......homey. This recommendation is what I was looking for. I'm glad you played this game and found it. Will definitely include this in my wishlist.
Been watching for years. Love the direction you took your channel but I got to admit I miss the gaming stuff..You're just a good creator in general mate so I'll watch regardless 👍
I really loved the game as well, it has the perfect balance between an open world, deep complex combat yet once you get the hang of it, very intuitive. I love this idea of burying your companions in the same area! Problem is, bodies are so heavy that you need to have a lot of carrying capacity to take them there.
We've come a long ways since Division days, and I still truly enjoy all the content you put out for us. Any updates on that tie company you had a video or two on a year or two ago? Anyways bud, hope you can keep some entertainment in all your work you are doing!
What you don't know is that the developers received a message a few years ago and it said, "If you build it, he will come." And so they built this game. Welcome back to gaming, UE! :) I hope you stay a while.

Battle Brothers is an amazing game also.
Which games are your top 10?
One of my companions got depressed after I denied his request to marry my Bear. 10/10.
oh man my bear is here now troop
🤨
How did you get a bear?! This isn't BG3!

That sweet and cold at the same time, love such details. ^^
I lost my wolf today...RIP Lupo
Lost mine and my archer beast master in the same battle. Glad they get to rest together at least
I never let anyone die during fights. I just can't emotionally.
Ignore the graphics and give Battle Brothers a try. That is the hardcore version of which Wartales originated from, made by a small german Indie Studio.
Battle brothers is awesome
Finally a normal review in a normal player language
There are a lot of videos out there that aren't great.

Glad to see you take a break for something fun. I love what you do now, but certainly miss the laid back game reviews. Do what you enjoy fella.
hell yeah! I discovered this game like 2 weeks ago, and it got me hooked almost instantly. I'm so glad to see others recomending it as much as I would
As someone who has played Battle Brothers for hundreds of hours and enjoyed playing Northgard in the past, this game seems right up my alley.
I've been playing this for months now and I love it. I am over 100 hours in and stick hooked. Its a great game.
Great to hear you talking about something you clearly love, more of these please
This game was literally made for me. Love Wartales. Simple and deep. Reminds me of Mount & Blade series. All the systems connect so well. Very satisfying experience.
I have about 600 hours in the game. It's one of my all time favorites and the devs keeps giving it love.
I found you through your New World videos. I love both forms of content you create, so keep going!
I really enjoy your review that expresses your opinions and thoughts in a humble yet respectful manner, adding nuances here and there that give a thorough but casual and honest overview of the game. Thanks for reviewing this and hope you'll carry on with some more!
Shiro games is killing it. North guard was great. So is Dune Spice Wars. Need to check this one out.
350+ hrs, and can confirm this review is accurate.
Its so cool to see this video pop up when it did. Ive been loving this game and was wondering why no one was talking about it.
Just discovered this game 60+ hours in and I’m in goosenburg and omg when I thought it couldn’t get any better

totally agree with your assessment. a few mole rats set to immortal class are invaluable in any battle as diversionary tactic

Not going to play the game, but this review is inspiring.
So glad to see you back to a classic UEG review, missed that!
I didn't enjoy the game as much as you did, but I'm glad you did.
I bought this game close to the end of early access, and started playing it a while after it's full release. Still enjoying it so far.
