Loved this! Starting my BE at UoA next year, you’re a big inspiration bro keep it up! Just a quick question, did you have any study tips/techniques in uni that helped you succeed?? Also thanks for putting content out like this - It’s real refreshing seeing some NZ/AUS content on software engineering! Best of luck for the future!👊
S.E here too. I love how you elaborate your day on us. I would love to engage more on social activities and lessen my time playing dota2 in my vacant time. LooooooL cheers brother!

Hey man, do you know if the Photos team support fully remote work post Jan? I’m a Googler in Melb but my team is in SanFran so I might have to move there next year. Thought I might be able to join a Syd based team remotely though and stay here.
@@andrewhu7214 I see, that's great! Hope that I'll be able to work at Google in the future too... It feels so hard, I've submitted my resume for an internship but there's not any replies yet. 🥲
Keep going bro- I believe ! Remember there's also a lot of luck involved with resume screenings , so if it doesn't work out this time , keep applying elsewhere and you'll land someth great for sure !
Hey sup andrew! I been watching some of your videos and I wanted to ask you a question since you seem fairly knowledgeable in this aspect, especially as a kiwi grad haha. So i graudated with a Bcom in 2020 in infosys and marketing. I kinda shifted into something else since but I'm keen on becoming a SWE now. I think it's abit too late for me to jump on these grad roles but would you say that a infosys degree is sufficient to make it to the interviews with these big companies? Also I'm trying to self teach myself haha; Would you happen to recommend any good resources that you've used? Shot bro! really inspiring haha I hope to be where you're at one day.
Yeah definitely ! There's quite a few self taught developers out there. Maybe use a free course like FreeCodeCamp first to brush up on more practical elements and learn how to actually build things (I haven't actually used this myself but have heard good things). For interview practice the books Cracking the Coding Interview and Elements of Programming are good. Then use Leetcode for practice problems :)
@@andrewhu7214 okay bro. I'm a software developer too. Started learning some months back. It's all been me teaching myself from YT videos and courses. Need some mentoring from an actual developer with experience working for a company. If I could ask you bro? What do you do daily with your skill at the company you work? I mean, what does a Java software engineer do everyday at google. Do you only build a new Google app with Java when google says they want a new app or do you manage/update these google apps?
I work on an existing Google app (Google Photos). This involves maintaining the existing code base (i.e refactoring code, fixing bugs), as well as adding new features that either our product managers come up wih, or users request.
@@andrewhu7214 thank you so much man. Well explained. So many more questions to ask lol. Does google use only Java for Android apps? What about flutter? Are some google apps built and maintained with flutter? And could a nodeJS developer get a role on Google?
Software engineer (SWE) is a more general term, you could be a backend, iOS, Android or web SWE (or a mix of multiple). Also, different companies will use different titles too (i.e web programmer). It's more or less the same :)
I wonder if you can grow your hair long at Google and put on music like that in the video at work. Then you don't need a haircut. If you cannot do these things, it's not a good place to work.
Hey Andrew mmm can you give some tips for incoming software engineer?! 🥺 ( I am planning to choose software engineer in college) Please notice me. I really need some advice about software engineer, I really don't know what should I study first , like I felt empty 🙈 . They said when you will enter the software engineer its really hard but if you will give me some advice maybe I'll pursue my dreams as a software engineer.☺️
You could try do a free online course like freeCodeCamp to see if you enjoy programming before going into college. Or even if you decide to go straight into a SWE degree, you can always switch if you find out that it's not for you. There's also plenty of other parallel roles to SWE in tech if you don't end up liking programming as much (i.e product management, UI/UX). As long as it's something you enjoy, you'll find a way to do well- even if it's hard. Good luck !
Hey bro I’m here in Sydney Australia, I’m looking for developer that can work on a project for me. Do you know of any good developers or even yourself?
ok seriously bruv... Tell your team to be able to create FOLDERS, within the albums. So it's not a single folder directory. And be able to right-click to add folders.
You Shows What an actually Engineers do. I'm also a full stack website developer. Really love your content and giving you a subscribe.
Thank you !
