I never realized how much I am missing out on myself until I watched this video. Imagine the things we would accomplish if we only stick to the reality..
Man, I'm laughing my ass off with this videos. I noticed we use the same programs in our companies. Those morning meetings are everytime more and more quickly and straight to the point without using fancy words
A day in the life of a software Engineer. Expectation: peacefully typing away while enjoying a picturesque view from your window. Reality: fighting the glare from the sun, battling with your neighbors' lawnmower, and trying not to get distracted by the UPS guy delivering packages. Great video as always!
As a web developer...this was pretty much spot on. Especially the not starting actually coding until 2 pm part. Now I just need to figure out how to pull off that ridiculous couch setup. lmao!
The truth about this is also being alone most of the time. You should be able to organize your time independently and is hard to find the motivation without any external or social input. Nice job man, I loved this video!
im just learning to code... it seems the work flow is more about getting things done rather than filling hours. maybe having a deep work approach could result in having more time to do other stuff(?
@@julianorozco5201 Absolutely. I really struggle to get things done because there are constantly meetings with like an hour in between. An hour is not enough to get into the work properly, so I can’t do anything in that hour except answer emails. And I constantly get Teams messages about things which for some reason are always “emergencies” and need to be fixed asap. Very little focus time. Give me a couple of uninterrupted hours and I get the same amount of work done that would otherwise take me a week.
This is sooo true... Hate those multiple useless meetings where I need to say 2 sentences in half an hour. Recently got feedbacks from managers and clients that our team talk not enough on meetings... But all our team members think that managers are talking too much and 10min meeting takes 30 minutes and every day/week same useless talking and scrum rituals
I like how honest this video is. And how it makes more sense. I saw many video and they dont seem to be real for me. Its like they pretend to be perfect on camera whilst i know its not the real daily life.
So relatable, So many people resigned from my project, some analysts assigned one production issue to solve which they were tracking for months, I was so lazy and as they are analysts I gave them fake updates like, " working on a custom exception handler", "testing the Roll back mechanism " etc They bought it, They tried to push it a little, so today is the first day I actually started working on it, And I solved it by adding one stupid annotation over the method, Now the analysts need me to show what all I did to solve the problem, God I miss my Engineer buddies who left
Sometimes I think these expectation/reality videos can be slightly exaggerated but it changed when my friend who works as an engineer said 90% of his job was searching google
i saw you drag visual studio from screen to screen so heres a tip for moving a program between monitors fast: win + shift + left/right arrow to move between monitors win + arrow keys to snap program to positions on screen
"I expect to send out a pull request by the end of the day today." But you won't, because right before you push, somebody will create a changeset with 200 modified files and you'll be up at midnight resolving merge conflicts so nobody can ambush you like that again. Except, of course, the offshore team.
Haha as a dev who's had to WFH since Covid this is so relatable. For the past two years I've wishfully set my alarm at 6.30 am in the vague hope that I'd actually get a good morning routine in (exercise, breakfast, news etc) before work but it never happens .... it's just snoozing all the way to 8.50 am so I can log in at 9 am. Would sleep longer but our daily scrum is at 9.30 am however!
His reality is soo my reality.. felt happy that few other techies also goes through this lazy phase in WFH.. loved the content totally😇 p.s. trying so hard for expectation to become reality😋
No way that's sad but you're living your dream right? So then fuck the world in your dreams are what makes your reality I'm not to worry you guys will be region two or three years right?
I think all software developers that work from home have a combination of both types. Some days I'm up early and super engaged and there are others where I am totally out of it. Work always gets done however.
I'm a junior so I'm still in an expectation phase, except at the end of the video - my comfort is watching "why I quit..." videos and thinking I will actually do it, knowing all too well I won't.
your video is so accurate that now I realize that I don't want to keep that misserable "reality" lifestyle... I know it's only a video for entertainment, but somehow it opened my eyes and let me see a dream that I could be actually achieve with high effort. I must say thank you, you've inspired me. Also I suscribed and left a like :D
Really like it =)) I knew stackoverflows would appear at some points and I was not disappointed ^^ and I really like how you set up the whole house overall, feel like you are wrapped in multiple devices and that just drives me insane
excellent, seems like you spied our days. love the details like setting online status, muting/umuting mic during daily up to dinner ending up ordering something. so accurate description on lot of aspects. also didn't know some had fixed their screens on top, a bit scary though.
I legit have always had the idea of having a monitor above you as you lay down. This makes me so happy that I wasn't the only one that had that idea! I just haven't done it yet. :)
My developer career started with a year working at an office, then the pandemic hit and we moved to home. At the beginning it was hard. Time management is an art that takes time to master hehe. Anyways, they like to hear my neighbors rooster singing in the background when I join the daily standup :p
CMU represent!! I got my return offer for next year! Let’s gooo! Can’t wait to go to the workforce after this year, seems so much more chill, you live that life bro!
I love how you have multiple things in your life setup so you can just lay down all the time xD I need this in my life.. actually though I am disabled so this would be fantastic.
You know what, if you can afford ordering take out then do it. Cooking can be fun if you take the day off to do it, but on a day when you work it just becomes extra tasks to do. And yes, cooking is a useful skill, but if you can boil pasta and scramble eggs youre gonna be fine even if your financial situation ever changes and you have to cook (it will buy you some time to learn when you need it. And if youre not doing something for fun it makes sense youd wait until you need to learn it)
This video isn't just funny, but it is comforting, even though I am not a software engineer. This was a lot what it was like to be a student from home too.
This vid has been amazingly accurate. XD Started WFH since covid and can confirm that I work mostly laying down. For one, it has been amazing for my bad back, but I kept feeling guilty and thinking, "this cant be healthy." Its a bit funny and relieving knowing that others are going through the same.
"We can't always get what we want, but if we try sometimes... we might just find, we get what we need." -- rolling stones I personally prefer the reality to the expectation. Keep it real.

I can’t tell you how many times I opened my mouth and sounded like a 80 yr old witch
Lol. Dang! This hit too close to home. My trick is to have warm / hot water on hand.

That VS opening the project so fast is also one hell of an expectation there for me....
Seeing my bad lifestyle in this video, made me realize that I needed to change it. That video is simple yet powerful meaning. Thank you Sir. 🔥💯🙌
I think it means we're all doing it right 😂😂😂 this is the way it is
Spot on with the meetings. 15 minute ramble that has nothing to do with me until the last 5 seconds. Literally happened to me yesterday.
Pls tell me he is not over exaggerating because the reality is EXACTLY MY WORKLIFE
The most realistic "A day in the life of whatever kind of worker are" ever
It's not a realistic "a day of in the life" of the *Pirate King*
The youtube algorithm is beginning to sense the legitness of the channel, keep up the great content!
I can relate everything, every developer needs to watch this 😂.
I don't. it's not like that with me,

Your setup of every room is sick! Definitely need to watch a video on how you set up your house!!
I second this.
Bro if anxiety max had a sound it would be the Teams ringtone ;_;
Agreed

Our company started migrating from Slack to Msft Teams. Am I in danger?
super true
My reality is constantly going to get food and coming back to my desk to stare at code 😂
😂😂♥️
hahahahahah
So true
My manager just gave me 400 lines of code to stare at. I'm gonna need some food to keep me company while I'm confused, having no idea wtf I'm reading 😂😂😂
@@monkeytrollhunter 😂😂😂😂😂😂🔥
I never realized how much I am missing out on myself until I watched this video. Imagine the things we would accomplish if we only stick to the reality..
Literally he just created a master piece of software engineer life 💯😂
Man, I'm laughing my ass off with this videos. I noticed we use the same programs in our companies. Those morning meetings are everytime more and more quickly and straight to the point without using fancy words
I'm a developer at another large tech company and I love this video so much. So accurate, hahaha. Subscribed!
Now I just need to figure out how to pull off that ridiculous couch setup. lmao!
This guy literally showed us how much better we can be if we just get out of bed at 7:00 AM like our dad tells us to.
The same dad that wakes up all proud at 6am but falls asleep at 2pm after lunch. Yes
@@pedrosilvaproductions take naps periodically throughout the day**

The truth about this is also being alone most of the time. You should be able to organize your time independently and is hard to find the motivation without any external or social input. Nice job man, I loved this video!
This is main problem. I have declined in isolation 😔
im just learning to code... it seems the work flow is more about getting things done rather than filling hours. maybe having a deep work approach could result in having more time to do other stuff(?
@@julianorozco5201 Absolutely. I really struggle to get things done because there are constantly meetings with like an hour in between. An hour is not enough to get into the work properly, so I can’t do anything in that hour except answer emails. And I constantly get Teams messages about things which for some reason are always “emergencies” and need to be fixed asap. Very little focus time. Give me a couple of uninterrupted hours and I get the same amount of work done that would otherwise take me a week.
This is why people have to get back to the office. The loneliness has to be soul depleting.
Honestly wondered how he would pass the sudden question in the meeting. Admiration at the "cut off" skill.
bro, the sitting in bed just staring into nothing is so relatable.
i have just started learning programming and this video kinda gives me hope.
there there
I am currently a 3rd year IT student and been so stressed lately, this video comforted me haha Thank you!
So relatable,
So many people resigned from my project, some analysts assigned one production issue to solve which they were tracking for months, I was so lazy and as they are analysts I gave them fake updates like, " working on a custom exception handler", "testing the Roll back mechanism " etc
They bought it,
They tried to push it a little, so today is the first day I actually started working on it,
And I solved it by adding one stupid annotation over the method,
Now the analysts need me to show what all I did to solve the problem,
God I miss my Engineer buddies who left
Sometimes I think these expectation/reality videos can be slightly exaggerated but it changed when my friend who works as an engineer said 90% of his job was searching google
i saw you drag visual studio from screen to screen so heres a tip for moving a program between monitors fast:
win + shift + left/right arrow to move between monitors
win + arrow keys to snap program to positions on screen
Thanks! I know it but still decided to drag instead to show the audience the experience and the couch setup :)
i actually didn't know this thanks 🙏
Ha, didn't know that, thanks!
"I expect to send out a pull request by the end of the day today." But you won't, because right before you push, somebody will create a changeset with 200 modified files and you'll be up at midnight resolving merge conflicts so nobody can ambush you like that again. Except, of course, the offshore team.
damn, so true
Haha as a dev who's had to WFH since Covid this is so relatable. For the past two years I've wishfully set my alarm at 6.30 am in the vague hope that I'd actually get a good morning routine in (exercise, breakfast, news etc) before work but it never happens .... it's just snoozing all the way to 8.50 am so I can log in at 9 am. Would sleep longer but our daily scrum is at 9.30 am however!
my daily scrum was at 9 am and i would take up at 8:50 lmaoo
His reality is soo my reality.. felt happy that few other techies also goes through this lazy phase in WFH.. loved the content totally😇 p.s. trying so hard for expectation to become reality😋
No way that's sad but you're living your dream right? So then fuck the world in your dreams are what makes your reality I'm not to worry you guys will be region two or three years right?
I think all software developers that work from home have a combination of both types. Some days I'm up early and super engaged and there are others where I am totally out of it. Work always gets done however.
The beautiful thing about engineering is that we seek to automate everything, so we don't need to lift a single finger (I study mechatronics)
I'm sure you love the words "runtime complexity" to make the conversations seems more "complex" 😆
The are a lot of liars showing a fake SWE routine. But instead, this is one of the first videos closer to reality. Thank you!
its 95% my day
The first month was like the expectation part when I thought it was a temporary thing, but after almost two years it is like the reality part.
Also I suscribed and left a like :D
the "sorry you were cut off" bit. LOL - totally going to use that
Really like it =)) I knew stackoverflows would appear at some points and I was not disappointed ^^ and I really like how you set up the whole house overall, feel like you are wrapped in multiple devices and that just drives me insane
There’s an Alexa in each room :p
to know that everyone else is finding this relatable and accurate too is comforting 😂
excellent, seems like you spied our days. love the details like setting online status, muting/umuting mic during daily up to dinner ending up ordering something. so accurate description on lot of aspects. also didn't know some had fixed their screens on top, a bit scary though.
The level of comfort on your setups are amazing 😂😂... personally i also want to watch tv/games like you... the best angle 😀
2:24 Wow this is a desk setup that is truly creative! Never seem anything like it, kudos! 😆

You just took work smarter not harder to a whole new level. And I'm loving it.

And if youre not doing something for fun it makes sense youd wait until you need to learn it)
This just triggered my post first, second and third lockdown PTSD I never knew I had. Thanks 👍
Love your technology setup all around your place..❤️❤️❤️✌️👍
I felt it so hard when you said in the stand-up "Today I'll be writing unit tests and probably have a pull request by the end of the day" classic
This is the longest Alexa ad that I have seen, now I want one.
"We can't always get what we want, but if we try sometimes... we might just find, we get what we need." -- rolling stones
I personally prefer the reality to the expectation. Keep it real.
