Should You Buy in 2022?
Based on the Metro series of books written by Dmitry Glukhovsky, I decided to take another refresher course on the third instalment into the Metro series of games, Metro Exodus. Developed by 4A games and published by Deep silver, exodus continues the series following on from Metro 2033 and Last Light.
With a free next gen upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series X and S players, should you buy Metro Exodus in 2022?

Just replayed it the second time a year after finishing it. This time with RT/ultra and to really take my time to explore the areas and story. This game is art: the writing and story, the visuals and game direction, the pacing and gameplay, and the soundtrack and sound mix are exquisite. It has cemented its place as one of my all time favorite games. One of the mistakes I made in the first play through was not sitting still near an NPC (enemy or friendly or radio) long enough to listen to the NPCs' entire dialogue.
finished main game + 2 coloniels for sexond time and today through sams story dlc
the dead city is the something out of this world i cant describe it just can't soecially i played ot today and its very cold and rainy outside
I always ask myself when playing metro exodus soecially the art of sams story enviroment
omg are the people made this game humans like us !!!! ivalmost played many many apocalyptic games the kast decade delete rhem after an hiurbsoecially fallout games because they are booring
but exodus !!!! exodus the best experience of a game ever done of its type so much immersing
metro exodus is the best nasterpiece
yes number ine masterpice among the other masterpieces ❤
Good thing i'm an RPG freak, I pay attenton to the most simple detail in games, just so that i can get all the juice content the devs intended for us to get. It loved it.
This game is a pile of shit
Same here. The Metro series is an annual playthrough for me since Exodus released. Good point on taking the time to listen to the ambient dialogue. 2033 and Last Light Redux versions would give a little flash (good moral) indicator when you completed an eavesdrop on some local conversation, I don't know if that indicator was in the original versions of those games or added in the Redux. But once that started, I would listen to every piece of dialogue trying to get the "good" ending. I completely forgot about the "good " flashes though since it didn't happen on most conversations and just enjoyed listening. Just finished the first 2 and tweaking settings for my first playthrough of the Extended edition, played once on release. So far it looks amazing once I figured out the HDR shenanigans they added. This will be my first playthrough of the DLC though.
Try the enhanced edition. It looks stunning.
This game has such a fun campaign. One of the best campaigns in a shooter I've played in recent years, along with Titanfall 2.
I completely agree with you on the silent protagonist. Just felt weird to have so many talking to you and you have absolutely nothing to say.
And I loved the immersive elements like your backpack, map, gas mask, weapon upgrade system, etc.
Good review, mate!
Cheers Zane!
"It pays to be the strong, silent type"
Titanfall 2 comparison immediately just sold me the game. One of the best campaigns I've ever played. We'll see how this goes.
@@cacomelon4768 to be fair, these games are completely different. Titanfall 2 is in my opinion the best Arcade Shooter ever made while Metro is one of the best realistic shooter series out there.
What connects these two very different games is great environmental Storytelling, good but totally different gameplay (although I will say Titanfall 2 still has the superior gameplay but that is also a much higher focus for it), great immersion, memorable moments and amazing level-design
@@cacomelon4768 They come from two totally different genres though. Not saying that Titanfall 2 was bad, I loved the absolute shit out of the campaign, but it’s not Metro Exodus at all.
One of the most memorable games I've ever played.
Im playing it right now im at the winter chapter its my first time playing it
@@fouraide7541 how was it?
I hear by take my own gamer pass away from myself because I played this for the first time yesterday and oh my goodness am I blown away? I’m ashamed that I missed this shit. I’m an old cranky gamer complaining about the lack of good games now a-days.
But this shit HERE. is amazing. An 5 hours in and this is A1
The Metro series is an absolute gem. They just feel special for some reason.
Great review. Finishing off the first two before diving in to this, but I can't wait.
Fun fact this game has the same VAs who did Dempsey Nikoli and Richtofen's voices in Call of duty zombies
I rarely comment on videos in youtube. This Commentator is very thorough but brilliant. I found his review very informative whilst being entertaining. Kudos to you !
Thanks man!
I needed many years and multiple playthroughs to truly understand the different characters and stories in the game. It is a much more complex game then you could ever realize at first.
Exodus is a great game. I just wish there was a dedicated museum mode like Last Light and there was greater base weapon diversity. A highly modified revolver is still inherently a revolver.
I desperately want another Metro game! Exodus felt like a masterpiece, I've never been more immersed in a game. If we ever get a sequel, I hope they let Artyom speak in game, and fix a couple other things here and there. Like aiming with a stick on controller felt awkward AF at first. It wouldn't take much more to make it a perfect game
i hope metro 4/2036 comes out soon. im pretty sure development has started already
Dude, Artyom must have a voice in the next releases. Although i have my suspicions the character is mute. They can add a device with a voice assistant, you know.
@@sarcomakaposi2054 Absolutely! And as far as him being mute, that's a possibility. You hear his voice in the loading screens and journals, but that may just be his internal dialogue
I felt the same way about controller. The aiming felt so gross. Tried it again on PC and my God it's already one of my favorite games of all time. I'm currently playing it as I'm typing this.
@@mofuhh Awesome! I really need to upgrade my PC 😅
These games are great, great storytelling, great gameplay, and each game was different but exodus became the most unique
I can’t lie though I enjoyed the settong of the first two metros much more something just stuck the way there was always tension fighting through the cramped tunnels of the metro and the few surface missions felt dangerous like it really was a bad place too be for me the metro series is a gam and don’t get me wrong I still loved the third game but it just lacked the tension until the last mission when you was back in the metro setting
It's an excellent game, with unique story telling, next gen graphics, and heavily discounted pricing, it's a no Brainer.
Its a unbelievable boring game, with a flimsy story, generic graphics and even for free is too much for this crap. Its INDEED a no brainer.
@@hanshandkante5055 booring are u out of ur mind kid ??? The problem it’s u who is booring nt the game 😅
@@hanshandkante5055 graphics don’t and never will define a game
@@tonit6549 Of course not but everything else sucks too in this game.
10/10 great story. If you decide to play it take your time and listen to the people talking :)
I watched your video before buying the bundle and I was only about 20 seconds in before clicking to make the purchase. Great video and I'm excited to play through all of the games! On PC the bundle is selling for about $15 including Metro Last Light Redux, Metro 2033 Redux, Metro Exodus and Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition.
Thanks man! Hope you enjoy!
I just picked this up on PS5 for $8
At that price point I would bet that I'm going to get my money's worth even if I end up not liking it
Great video!
Exodus is the only PS5 game I've played where the haptics really add something, to the point where I'd feel as though I'm missing out if I play it on a different platform
@@michaelc5373 right? It's so satisfying
I'm going through the list of ps+ premium included games and I'm looking at metro to possibly be my next download. I appreciate the good reviews and the attention to detail you show us about games so i know exactly what im signing up for when choosing the next game to download and enjoy. Nothing worse than waiting hours to download a game to find out its not what i thought it was and now have to choose and wait again for another download. Based on this review metro exodus will be the next game i take advantage of on the ps+ game catalog. Keep up the excellent reviews👍
I literally downloaded it yesterday, trust me it’s worth it. I downloaded all three and played them in order and now working on it this one. It’s a good bit different from the first two. I would definitely play them in order if you can
Yeah currently playing through that v after 8 years or so, I'll likely also go woth exodus after this esp due to the ray tracing.
Rt with this game and VRR is going to be great on ps5
That’s what brought me here lol clicked download halfway through the review
I agree and because of your reply too, I"m downloading it.
I remember standing on a gas station, i was discoverd by a guard, i shot him and then a group of those humanoids mutants came i try to shoot them but my weapon jammed.
Playing on PC here. My PC specs are cpu: 5800x gpu: rx 6800xt, 32gb ram, 1tb samsung SSD. I'm still liking this game and it's beautiful graphics, but the most frustrating thing about this title compared to the first two, is that it freezes on certain chapters. For example, when you get to the Caspian light house area mission, the game freezes and I have no choice but to Ctrl+alt+del and log out/re-login. The same thing happens when you get to the village area in the Taiga chapter. This is a buggy game on PC, not sure about consoles...
i feel game is a journey, it's about not loosing humanity even in worst times and friends we made in journey, it's really good game
Started to play it on my Series X. Really immersive and fun.
Man this game looks so good and lucky it's on a massive sale and it's only £8.74
Ong
@@CJ_725 I think it's still on a sale I ended up buying all 3 games for about £10 and the last game comes with dlc I couldn't really say no to that
Now its 2.3 usd on steam, gonna buy it but came to see some reviews forst
This is the most mixed signal, convoluted review I’ve ever seen. One sentence he’s raving about the game, the very next sentence he’s disappointed with something.
Sounds like a great review. Most lean too much to one side.
I bought it just now for Xbox I wanted to revisit the game, but I just miss the “horror” atmosphere that previous titles had.. I miss the shadows and this kinda of haunted places. But most of all I miss Chan missions with him are my personal favorites.
100% agree, the earlier games had a charm to them
I'm in the middle of playing it now and it is pretty dang great. But I have a few complaints. I just got to this part and Instead of being able to choose to sell out guil or not she just swings in at the last second and puts me into a whole big cutscene where I do nothing to get myself out of that situation. Then, when I finally got to the Baron after raiding all kinds of outposts looking to kill him they tease me as we fight with him by having one character say I'll help guil from falling you deal with the baron. I was so looking forward to knifing, shooting or just straight up bashing him, but despite all that work I put in, Anna just says on the intercom , Artyom your head is in the way. I move and she snipes him. That bitch stole my kill! Not to mention the amount of times I fall 4 feet and get seriously injured.
I SO wanted to stab the Baron in the head or at least throw his ass from the rig and watch him fall to his death. Anna just rid him from a long-painful-well deserved agony.
Great review! 😍😍😍 Meticulously covers every aspect of the game. 🙌👌
I downloaded this game via torrent. yesterday i finished the game and felt very guilty, this is the first time i feel empty and sad when i finish a game in my life. what makes me feel guilty is playing it for free illegally. this morning I bought this game officially on Steam to make up for my mistake in downloading pirated games.
Artyom should talk, the silent protagonist here doesn't make any sense, that was the big problem for me about the history of the game, apart of that I like it a lot, but I know I would like it even more if artyom spoke and it would add much more of a connection with the player.
I actually really appreciate the Russian accents for the English dub. They can sometimes sound cheesy but it really adds to the atmosphere. Makes me wish games like Kingdom Come Deliverance would have gone the same route with more geographically accurate voice actors instead of the obligatory English accents. Same for everything pertaining to Rome and Greece! I was 9 years old before I finally realized the English didn't conquer the world until the late 1700's pffff. Kudos to Ubisoft with AC Origins and Odyssey in this regard. While burned out on their games, I played through them anyway for the cultural exploration. Thoughtful and appreciated!
I remember when this came out and I wanted it, completely forgot about it. Now I see it on the ps plus game catalog! Deff downloading now
I already have the platinum trophy for the whole trilogy and the metro games are some of the highly underrated games to date but I wanna ask how was it😊
Hoping this gets picked up for PSVR2!
Just finished 2033 on to last light and then mexodus… had the game since release but never played! Lol too many fps games but ive really needed a break from ranked grinding
you convenced me. i just bought the game on steam. cheers. i really enjoyed fallout series so i think this might complement nicely. we will see
This is one of my favorite games ever. Can't wait for the next one.
I played it and I loved it this year
On pc 1440p ultrawide
Excellent Review, thanks for posting!
I'm currently playung through Metro Exodus Complete edition for the PS5 and the frame rate at the Taiga forest level was fixed. No noticeable slowdowns. Although I was stealthing my way through for the trophy. Not sure what it looks like if you had to go into combat with multiple enemies
Beat ranger hardcore on ps4! Going through a playthrough now on the enhanced pc version!
Just started it for the first time last night and end up staying up till 3am couldn't put it down and so far so good and looks good in 4k/30 on XBOX One X
Looks even better in 60fps with ray tracing on Series X
Im playing on Xbox One X as well, got the game about 2-3 days ago and so far it's amazing! I already completed the game, but got the bad ending so im replaying again as of now to get the good ending.
@@TheLawnMowingMan don't kill innocents, knock em all down if necessary even the bandits.
I just finished playing Metro Exodus on my PS5 and i can not describe just how amazing this game is. From the superb graphics, dialog, story inmersion, gameplay mechanics and level dynamics. To me this is the best game of 2022 even though it came out in 2019. I also got the two DLCs but i hope they release more. I just removed The Callisto Protocol from my wishlist. Very disapointing reviews and reported bugs and glitches in the demo, character flaws in the gameplay mechanics... I am not spending 70 dlls on a game i won't enjoy.
Is the gun mechanics good tho cause in metro 2033 it was clunky af
@@adithyaa.s.8339 It improved a lot though im using a moded controller to fit my needs
Bro do u know some good Multiplayer or open world games to play that I can get in and out quickly and not bother about the story or missions so much
we need a game where they venture out to the ocean, just likke Anna always wanted
Man i wouldnt have played if it wasnt for you thanks.. liked an subscribed
No problem man! Hope you enjoy!
Yeah and now you can get the gold Version for 6 euros on Playstation till i think 20.6 and thats really really worth it i would say
I really want to get this on ps5. But so much of the gameplay I've seen is completely pitch black night time. And it sounds like there's no way to change it back to daytime if you want to?
Most of the game is during the day
Got metro exodus enhanced edition for 3$ with all dlc's, cant wait to play it!
Sprinting down stairs is a guaranteed broken neck irl too, mate.
I need a bottle of water to soak all this in considering it's on sale for 9.99
loved metro from day 1. Exodus adds the pucker factor by including so many different factions and monsters
Is it really important to play the first two games?
It’d help narratively but probably not essential. There’s a few recap videos on UA-cam to catch you up if you just wanted to dive into Exodus. It’s a very different experience to Metro 2033 and Last Light and the best out of the three in my opinion.
You just convinced me to play it
Great review!
Does this game work on xbox one?
Yeah, you definitely should try it out, its so much better than mainstream fps games.
Is it better than the other Metro games?
Stalker might be a bit dated and janky but it is pretty fun in my opinion I just bought the trilogies and I have metro exodus and chernobylite gonna finish shadow of chernobyl and I'll either play metro exodus or stalker clear sky but then again idk I might try to hop on metros hardest difficulty, I love playing shooters on highest difficulty for the realistic level of punishment and making you think before you act and adds value to what you do
I don't do Horror games, I can't handle the spook. I finished this game. 'Nuff said
Good. About to hop in myself here
Cyak Blyat FTW! That song is a fucking banger!
Now is cheap price on Steam,I buy done😁 nice graphics similarity of days gone
The game is great in a lot of ways but people should chill with "it's a masterpiece". Open maps for example are weak. Barely anything to find or to look at. A lot of suit upgrades are crap. Weapons have barely any customization. You can attach silencer, few different scopes and lasers that work normally or night vision. Everything else is just straight upgrade so there is no point in attaching those old parts.
I wish we had more places like a little house you can reach by boat in Volga. It was creepy, told a story without saying anything and etc. Even as I write this there are some insane bugs in the game to this day. Like when you open your map in the car you field of view will go up and you will be watching your car's ceiling. In Dead City level Miller went trough the stairs while walking up. Later in the level I couldn't press E to progress. I had these bugs few days ago and I had it few years ago too so it wasn't fixed. In DLC you get to a station and there are two states for a entrance. Normal and destroyed after it gets destroyed. When I reached it was in destroyed state from the start. Etc etc.
It's fun if you are a fan but little disappointing too. It's a good game but far from a "masterpiece". You have to understand that a game like Fallout or Stalker existed for a long time before this. You had day and night cycle, ate food, fixed stuff, found stuff and etc. Metro Exodus just has this stuff and doesn't do anything interesting with it. This is coming from a person who 100% first two games and now replaying Exodus for 100%.
I think it's the best single player game I ever played
God of war games sitting in the corner be like 👁👄👁
@@germanstormtrooper2298 God of War was a meh for me I got bored most of the time unlike metro where I was always laughing at stuff and having a great time.
@@ironbonk11 you have no soul your heart is made of stone
@@germanstormtrooper2298 he's got a point, I found the new GOW gameplay super boring to the point I'll probably just watch a playthrough of ragnarok.
Hell yes... It's on sale now on PlayStation store, only around 7 dollars....
same on steam, gonna buy it soon
Nah nah nah that Russian Hardbass joke on the radio killed me
RIP to Andrii, Metro exodus Animator. This game is definitely eye appeasing!
This is the most immersive game I’ve ever played
Play more games then
i love the tihar air gun but i also fukin hate it
if i forget to pump it i could probably do more damage pissin at the enemy😂
1:20
I like how you are saying that AI is super smart and deadly, but on the screen we see a bunch of helpless idiots that are running like decapitated chickens and don't understand what is happening
Good news is 4A has been working on a new Metro game and it will be multiplayer
Anyone play the next gen version? Does it hold up?
Yeah looks great on ps5 and 60fps
I agree with all of this but the hit reg is shit. I shot something in the middle of the dome from the side And it was a body shot and when I shot something in the belly it said it was a headshot. And sometimes it goes right through them. And it sucks when you shoot someone with a gun that does not have a suppressor on it you just have them look at you caues the bullet went through their head or hit a body shot.
i finally scraped up enough to get a series s so il finally play it no way i was gonna play this on my base xbox one lol
Maybe you have a hardware issue, I never had any of these issues on my 3090, 5950x PC… unless you played this on council then it was definitely an issue lol.
Just bought this game. Cant wait to play it. This looks like The last of us on steroids!
I’m just replying to the title: YES 💯
3:15 hahaha 😆
U sold me. Gonna buy it after I get bored of cyberpunk 2077
This game looks like a heavy rpg and i like heavy rpg wish me luck.
Something that did seem odd to me was that there wasn’t much gore in the game and I know that’s not everything but it just seemed odd that in the last 2 games they were actually bloodier and more gory than this one you’d think they would only improve the gore I just think this game specifically needed to be more gory beacon how dark the series is but listen it DOES NOT RUIN THE GAME so do not come at me with that bull shit
The answer is yes....yes you should play this game
I wanted to shoot everything in my gield of vision like the last game
All 3 games are on sale constantly for only $12 its insane
Good thing stupid steam only have low prices for games which got negative or mediocre reviews atleast some good games are cheap now
Still awesome even on ps4
Ive played about 6 hours and I feel mixed. It's one of the better looking games I've ever played but everything else feels limited. The gunplay and combat is nothing spectacular and the exploration/looting is cool but definitely scaled back compared to games like Fallout, Dying Light and Stalker. It just feels like a watered down survival game with really nice graphics. I like it a lot, but I think it could have used more survival elements.
You are correct and you named few good games as example. Like let's take Stalker as example. I remember it had a lot more weapons and many of them could be upgraded with attachments. In last game you could upgrade weapons and armor with many different stats or functions. You carried supply of food and medicine. Weapons had few types of ammo. You found artifacts to boost your stats. Etc etc.
Exodus just has simple mechanics that make you feel like you are surviving but they are not deep enough. Like you don't eat or drink. You fix your guns often but not your suit. In the first two games you at least collected currency which are military grade bullets. You either buy cool useful stuff or you can equip this ammo and blast enemies with greater damage. A more cool and interesting mechanic then opening 1000 boxes and finding few types of materials instead of a item that did something. Even suit upgrades are horrible. For me there are obvious superior upgrades. Do you want to have a bigger battery or brighter flashlight/night-vision that eats your battery instantly? Having portable generator that you charge yourself is cool and immersive but if you have to do it every 2 minutes then it's just annoying.
Going forward, can you not do the little movie clips and TV show clips please. We get it.
1 & 2 were kind of meh in 2022, but they were probably awesome 10 years ago when they released.
Don’t you know the popular opinion these days? Open world games suck and linear games are better(not that I agree with this in the slightest).
U sound like Thor
I was underwhelmed. Draggy, long-winded conversations and boring. Regretted buying it
Great review
Subbed!
Don't feel bad, I can not drive in games at all. could not even play GTA 5. I was so bad at driving. Then again, I am not a gamer, I play maybe an hour every couple of days
Great game.
The tikhar is the worst weapon in the game. I never use it and hate the fact that it takes up a slot out one out of the 3 weapon slots and you can't replace it!
Skill issue kid. Its literally the best weapon in the game.
You gotta get that Railgun variant in Dead City, its damn good bro.
The Tikhar is one of the most versatile weapons in the whole game. It really shines on the harder difficulties. A lot easier to maintain stealth and easy to get 1 shot head shots when it's pumped up. Also the fire ammo you can make later on is great.
After another year of playing the game now the tikhar is my favorite. I love it because it gives that post apocalypse Metro feeling. :D I am not playing this game as an fps anymore. I am replaying it for the atmosphere. I guess I’ve grown up to the game. And I love it. :)
dayz
cant wait to pirate this
So this game is basically like tomb raider, from everything i have seen that is what it looks like
The game is shit because the AI is horrible. Redux has better AI lol.
Got this on my ps4 and I just can't play this game, the controls are messed up and it takes 40 years to load
Newer games should be played on an SSD. I know the Xbox One and PS4 have hard drives. Hard drives are a big bottle neck in loading times. If you ever get a gaming PC, get the game on PC. Everything is better on PC. The only 2 types of games that I prefer on console are racing games and fighting games. Otherwise RPG, FPS, strategy, ect PC is where it's at.
Don't the game dosent work and the controls are god awful just watch a play through with no commentary
this game are downgrade in compare to Metro Last light in basically everything !! it was "so good" that i was erase it
Couldnt play it. ATRIIIEMMM BLA BLA BLA BLA. The characters felt disney in comparison to something like STALKER. Constant annoying voice acting and the dad and wife bossing you around.
The few moments I got to have a shootout alone in a warehouse felt eh cos I knew the train and shitty story and boat segments were right around the corner.
I subscribed strictly cause of that frank Reynolds clip lol
75% cut scenes - 25% running through extremely boring empty tube designed levels and collecting useless items plus you can play it without even looking and you will still never die. This is BY FAR the worst game i have ever seen. I will never understand what people like about this utter crap.
