In my opinion, this is a much more interesting and better analysis than Digital Foundry’s. They have this obsession with resolution and frame rate that cause them to overlook other very important aspects of the game. I even think they have negatively contributed to the gaming industry in the sense that they influence their massive followers base into thinking the same. Resolution and 60fps matter more than graphics. You guys did a great job here and I’ll be subscribing to your channel for more. Cheers from Brazil!
So true, there recent analysis have stressed on resolution so much, even though its minimal or the difference is not visible when playing. Like in the case of Returnal, I know their intentions were not to drag down the game, yet their comment on it being 1080p internal resolution and upscaling caused so many negative reviews about the game.
@Gareth Mason I got your point. But, man, these days people seem to be having a hard time forming their own opinion, so they tend to copy someone else’s. If DF gives a hint that resolution is extremely important (which they seem to do in their videos, in my opinion) and that a game runs at “only” 1080p, then you can bet they have essentially condemned that game to a negative reception. People hardly seem to think for themselves anymore.
This is going to sound so stupid, but I think the game being much lighter/brighter kind of takes away from the atmosphere of the game. E.g. in the abandoned bunker at 6:10
This is a purely tech showcase for people who appreciate what is being accomplished here with ray traced GI. The game originally was designed around baked lighting and artificially placed light probes that's why some scenes look better on last gen. The next game will 100% be designed with ray traced lighting as the base.
Am I the only one who thinks the PS4 version looks better? The lighting on the PS5 version is somehow without detail and very bright. I don't like it at all.
What a gradual comparison up to the fine designation here, at least from the most gradual kind of a dignified insurance, here it's what's gonna be called for.

just finished my PS5 play through. superb game. the wider fov makes a huge difference over last gen, especially in some of the more claustrophobic areas. shame it didn't carry over my ps4 save, i would have like to have started on NG+ but not really an issue i would recommend playing on Hardcore. it's not that hard and never really struggled for resources (although the Bear is a pain!) I did get a few random crashes so save regular
i have huge issues with metro on series x, they should implement real time reflection, 1st open map (the one with boat) looks so bad when all reflections on water disappear all the time, also they should give us some oresets (like i dont need 60fps id rather see stable resolution) other than this still some small issues with hdr after quick resume
Workflow aside, I really don't know if you could call this a huge success. 70% of the originally lit scenes look better artistically imho Feels like it all needs some tweaking at least Edit: not being harsh, just an observation. I am generally a big fan of ray tracing. Playing Ratchet & Clank on PS5 at the moment (I think that's just reflections not necessarily lighting though)
The reflections in Rift apart are nice but I don't think it's anywhere near impressive as what's done here in Metro Exodus. I played the non RT version on PC and there were LOTS of areas especially in shadow that did not look realistic at all things being lit in shadow when they shouldn't while other areas should have bounce lighting but is completely dark. The amount of overhead needed to perform this kind of RT while maintaining 60fps on GPUs comparable to an rtx 2060/2070 super is extremely impressive. Especially when this game was originally developed with RTX not AMD's RT implementation
Some of the ray tracing stuff is cool, other areas look too dark or bright & I definitely notice the glowing demon eyes while playing. Hopefully if their next game is designed around ray tracing their artists can work to really take advantage of its strengths without the drawbacks.
Night and day difference. The way it should be. I'm tired of "next gen upgrades" that barely even boost resolution and framerate.

Why are the colours so different on series x and ps5
Not much of a horror game now though is it? Needs to be darker
Dont wanna play no games i already beat gtfoh
So yet again a game looks better and run better on the ps5
yes congrats... see you again in 4 months😂
This is going to sound so stupid, but I think the game being much lighter/brighter kind of takes away from the atmosphere of the game. E.g. in the abandoned bunker at 6:10
Sometimes going for realism is just not the best look.
This is a purely tech showcase for people who appreciate what is being accomplished here with ray traced GI. The game originally was designed around baked lighting and artificially placed light probes that's why some scenes look better on last gen. The next game will 100% be designed with ray traced lighting as the base.
I wanted to play it, but the damn Intro I still could not skip
just do a physical skip, you know, where you go do something else for 5 mins while the scene plays.
great video
Am I the only one who thinks the PS4 version looks better? The lighting on the PS5 version is somehow without detail and very bright. I don't like it at all.
What a gradual comparison up to the fine designation here, at least from the most gradual kind of a dignified insurance, here it's what's gonna be called for.
Such a good game on new consoles already played it 2 times. I bought dlc but it's glitched 😭
what's glitched on the dlc? i was thinking of getting it
Series x bby
is trash
@@MichaelM28 this is a win for seriesX, both consoles hit 99% of the time 60 fps like your god NXgamer said here, seriesX has highter resolution, cross save, better loadings, smaller size, no black crush..
Wait - the origin of the light comes “from” the player camera?
No.

Great work nx gamer 👍🔥
Let's be honest Playstation is the peoples console lmao
Whatever that's supposed to mean. 🙄
@@freddywayne ps is more popular
For casuals and dumb kids yes cause that's the majority of console gamers.
We're not supposed to notice the RT issues on the SX lately? Or the RTGI shortcomings on the SX version of Metro? Those 52CUs was a sad coverup that's causing numbers way lower than 12 tflops sustained
I set Ps5 to HDR ALWAYS ON and it fixed the crushed blacks.
What is thé music intro
Wow, this was good. Almost better than DF's review.
@Kemp shawn how is he showing any favoritism in this video to begin with? he’s just giving information, moron.
@@yoda9256 seems like he is a butthurt Xbox fanboy. Can't stand it that ps5 keeps up with the series X. And that its framerate in a lot of cases is smoother then series X
It wasn't almost , it was leaps better than DF.
It's better because he is more detail oriented in why things are the way they are. I swear half the time DF doesn't know how a game designer did something.
@Kemp shawn cry some more you butthurt xbot
Ahhhh . This is the solution cuz whenever i played game that so dark , i will have headache T_T . Ray tracing can help me but ofc i dont have money to buy it.
The console with the much stronger GPU has more frame drops lol how is that even make any sense
Too much resolution.
Will this be available for the metro saga bundle on the PlayStation store?
Does anyone know the patch size for the Xbox One upgrade?
captions? please
Im not yet rich but im still playing th enhanced edition on my low tier laptop at medium settings 😭😭... Stil nice though
It would be nice if my upgrade would you know....upgrade instead its holding steading on attempt 4 at 94.6% for the last 3 days so my upgraded metro is looking just wonderful for me
The PS5 is performing much better with scenes dropping down to 54fps on Sx while on PS5 at the same time it’s locked 60fps.
12 TF vs 10?
What’s going on NX gamer?
That simply comes down to engine optimization
@@GTS300Coupe it’s must be more than that because we’re seeing this trend on most games now where the PS5 has the edge
Generally s/X enjoys a few frames per second advantage when push comes to shove.
@@iparz44z it's also been confirmed that Sony developer tools are further along in maturity. The Series X hardware IS superior. This is uncontested. Give it time for devs and Microsoft to get more efficient
@@GTS300Coupe when hitman 3 cams out and it was at a higher resolution compared to PS5, I was told the tools had arrived. Now your saying the tools have gone again, or could it just be the PS5 is more efficient machine.
Me: Mom can we have DF?
My mom: We already have DF at home
DF at home:
8:19 there’s no way it’s that big of a difference? Is it?! Are you sure you have the brightness in the game the same level?
just finished my PS5 play through. superb game.
the wider fov makes a huge difference over last gen, especially in some of the more claustrophobic areas.
shame it didn't carry over my ps4 save, i would have like to have started on NG+ but not really an issue
i would recommend playing on Hardcore. it's not that hard and never really struggled for resources (although the Bear is a pain!)
I did get a few random crashes so save regular
i have huge issues with metro on series x, they should implement real time reflection, 1st open map (the one with boat) looks so bad when all reflections on water disappear all the time, also they should give us some oresets (like i dont need 60fps id rather see stable resolution) other than this still some small issues with hdr after quick resume
Omg the music
i missed this game
I absolutely prefer the original version.

Anybody having issues with the language settings? I can't get the Russian language with English subs to work.
Very nice review, pro's and Contras 👍
I still find some hand placed lights look better than the Ray tracing
Workflow aside, I really don't know if you could call this a huge success. 70% of the originally lit scenes look better artistically imho
Feels like it all needs some tweaking at least
Edit: not being harsh, just an observation.
Just another ps3 game 🥱
Some of the ray tracing stuff is cool, other areas look too dark or bright & I definitely notice the glowing demon eyes while playing. Hopefully if their next game is designed around ray tracing their artists can work to really take advantage of its strengths without the drawbacks.
Ps5 is more responsive than series x weird but ps5 for the win again
Hey excellent video... I wanted to ask its possible to do a comparison with PC enhanced version vs consoles.
