I think one thing that I've always enjoyed about Metro are the stations: Each station has its own culture, its own way of doing things. Just about every group of NPCs has a lot to say, relevant to the plot or not. The beggars cast off to the side, the old man putting on a puppet-shadow show for the children, Spartans talking about how other factions are potentially moving on D6, etc. There's so much going on in each station with or without mutants that I can't help but just explore and listen in; each station feels so alive despite how bad everything is. People continue to try, to thrive in the tunnels of Moscow.
Based on what you say about the games I really think you should read/listen to the books, they are very very good (I read metro 2033 years before I played the games)
@@lukeandrews2154 And it's honestly the worst book in the series. 34 and 35 are both wonderful reads and realy show how the writer evolved and got better with time
@@DumbArse imo metro 2033 is the best one. Metro 2034 is a really nice book, but it lacks the action and the mistery of the first one. Metro 2035 is my least favorite, to me it feels like the author was tired of making metros and he found a quick way to finish the story. I didn't like the "new Artyom", who was a completely different character compared to the first book, and the lack of supernatural elements which were crucial in the first two novels. Of course, that's my personal opinion.
Don't forget the adventure to each station through the metro I absolutely love just how tight the tunnels are when u get in a fight u just can't run their is no where to run to and the hopeless of the world
Absolutely love this game and franchise. Exodus is definitely one of my top 10 games. Metro is such a big part of me and my friend group. We probably talk about these games more than anything and imo its one of the most quotable games ever. Glad you enjoyed it and gave it a second chance.
@@ryan0150 I am hella late to this response but my friend group mostly plays single player games. And if they are multiplayer its either hunt showdown, project winter, or COD/battlefield 4. Most of my friend group are huge achievement hunters so they never stick to one game. I'm the one always begging them to play Destiny 2 with me 😂
In the words of Dmitry Glukhovsky (Author of the Metro series) "Metro franchise is an observation of how Russians look to the past and try to determine their future"
My very first reaction when I turned on Exodus for the first time was to turn off the crosshair, turn on the Russian dub, and start the game on Ranger Hardcore. Honestly, I feel like the crosshair shouldn't even be a thing. It feels so off to see.
@@utisti4976 honestly. crosshairs dont really make sense in any game. unless you have your gun out sure but even then if you need to be accurate you shouldnt be hipfiring anyway. only game it really makes sense to have it in is stuff like csgo where you cant normally ads.
@Shawn Rasmussen I ADS before throwing a knife out of habit since I got used to not having crosshairs in previous games despite having crosshairs on for Exodus.
@@Liam-co1bw they also make sense in games set before guns, if you've ever played kingdom come deliverance you know the learning curve for using a bow without any sort of sights nor a lil reticle in the center of the screen is difficult
Honestly if you’re a fan of the linear side of metro. I would recommend the two-colonels DLC. Fairly short, but fantastic all the way through, and the ending (almost) made me cry.
I didn’t enjoy it as much as the sam DLC and got kinda bored of the flamethrower, but the story of that DLC was beautiful, wrapping up the loose ends left between Artyom and the Colonel’s last few hours
Two colonels is almost an interactive movie, but the end is really well done. After being able to get that open world taste this was quite the opposite and little bit disappointing.
I had the exact same experience with Exodus. I even stopped at the same point. I don't know that I'll be diving back in like you did, but I am at least thinking about Metro again. Thanks for the video.
Man same but I played my first game play thru hardcore and I’m not sure if that what made me stopped playing but I remember I so was invested than just stop like if I got bored but idk… I stoped during the desert region.
My favorite game in this series. Scored 100% achievements in both versions (original and RTX Enhanced) and played for a total of 230 hours between those two.
I really enjoyed Exodus (and it's amazing DLC), but I still found myself missing the culture, complexity and play style of the metro tunnels. So I came out of Exodus satisfied with it, but genuinely hoping for at least one more title in the future of Metro. Something that would take this nearly perfected open-world/linear hybrid back into some irradiated city where civilization continues underground. It doesn't have to be Moscow either, as the story itself needs to expand further into the rest of the post-nuclear world, and so it could instead give us a chance to explore Metro culture anywhere in Europe that is accessible by rail, allowing the story to continue from where we left off in Exodus. PS: And, let's hope it resolves the Dark Ones storyline as well.
I stopping playing mid way through Volga my first time playing. When I returned I got really invested into the story and really enjoyed it until the end.
14:30 you're speaking my language. I shook so hard when those siders crawled on my arms (and face) that my mum thought that I developed epilepsy. I also too have thalassaphobia, but not as severe as some people do. I also wanted to tell you to try two colonels and Sam's story. Both great dlcs that are long enough but don't overstay their welcome. Also 2 colonels has a flamethrower in it and Sam's story has incindiary bullets
It took me ages to play the metro games, but I refused to play exodus until I played 2033 and last light true ending and I'm so glad I did. I cried so much at the end of exodus and I'm sure you know why. I wont say why I cried because you should play yourself, but just know I'm an emotional little b*tch so I cry at every death that we spend more than 5 minutes with as long as its done nicely. I would recommend playing the games in order. Beautiful games, worth every cent and every second I spent on these.
I know exactly what you mean... Everytime i hear Dawn Of Hope... I just feel the sadness come over me again... I wont tell ppl why! Play the games... All 3 of them... Get to know the characters. When you reach the end of exodus, you understand why.
Man I went through the exact same experience for the same reason as you. I wound up re-reading the books and then replayed the entire series and just finished exodus today. Better late than never, love the video.
I always wished the Far Cry series had gone this direction after 4, I love the tropical island settings and the Metro series so for me if we got a Metro style game in a tropical setting would be elite, like imagine going through abandoned resorts and jungle ruins without having to worry about which bandit camp you have to take next and just getting lost in the setting and story. A man can dream....
I adore this game and the entire franchise. Hearing you say that you hated Exodus before was rough but it's nice you gave it another chance. We're all just out here looking for a good game man. Cheers.
I have actually waited with Metro Exodus, first when the enhanced edition came out I knew I wanted to play it once I had an RT capable card. Now I have one, the 6600XT and it plays brilliantly. :) I am getting really stoked by watching videos like yours (although I skipped the story section) :)
Honestly i instantly melded with the open world the momemt i played it. Mostly because it never ever holds your hand. And almost every question mark is a curated experince. Not a collectible or just another "fort". There was a story. A purpose to what that question mark was. One might be a bandit camp. A father and son going finishing. A crazy electric experiment. A fucking ship infested with giant spider crab things with a crazy old man living up top. Also you had to find them yourself. No "syncronization points" you actively had to go up to a high point YOURSELF. You actively had to go up on a crane. A watch tower. A cliff. And just look out into the world.
Yeah 100%, I felt that this time around. My opinions before we’re so surface level and judgemental based on a preconception I’d imagined because of my disdain for current open world titles.
Best part about Metro Exodus is that is a open world with linear story missions, you never visit the same place twice and there is no level grinding. All the missions and the little side quest, which can be very rewarding on their own, drive you forward and tells a story about the world you experience. I also think the game is best experienced on the hardest difficulty (Ranger Hardcore) where the combat is faster and deadlier. Both you and the NPC damage output gets increased with the difficulty, so it only takes 1-2 shots for you to kill them, but it also only takes 1-2 shots for them to kill you.
I love how I’ve started playing 2033 for the first time last night after buying the whole trilogy and seeing this has got me so excited to play all of them. The atmosphere and audio in 2033 so far has made me so scared and I love it. Also, now that I’ve found out there’s a spider level, I can’t wait to be even more scared! Great video James!
this past two weeks I just beat far cry 5 and then New Dawn.. but this, this right here is hands down the greatest game I've ever played it's so immersive it's unreal it makes you feel a part of the world I would check the radio after every mission to see how people progressed in the parts of Russia we helped and had left behind
it’s crazy, when i first started playing the game i had that same burnout dreaded feeling knowing i had to traverse through an open world but coming back to it recently it’s so fun satisfying and enjoyable.
Im literally replaying this game right now because of the same exact reasons, open world fatigue. Except I decided to replay the first two to refresh my memory. I love those games, literally top 5s and I hope this game is just as good, and better. I only played maybe 2 or 3 missions 3 years ago and im happy to fully play it now
Ashes Afterglow reminded me in some ways of Metro Exodus. Along with also having a post apocalyptic setting, you also search for scrap to upgrade your weapons at work benches in Afterglow. Plus it's got a Geiger counter to watch your rad levels too.
i wanted to finish the game ever since realese, literaly everyime im about to finish volga my pc dies, after i finaly completed full campaign and dlcs its refresing to see that some developers still care about their game
as a hardcore metro fan with over 100 hours on both games each and having completed both reduxed games in ranger survival hardcore mode WITH the good endings, I'm suprised I have only fully played this game once. I feel like I need to replay this game once more on the highest difficulty aswell to complete my string of achievements. Also you haven't forgotten anyone everyone on the train in your lil friend group is new with the exception of miller and anna.
The entire metro series is my favorite series ever. I think a lot of the people that don't like it simply aren't playing it in a manner it is best designed for. Hardest difficulty, no hud, headphones. Forced to scrounge for resources. Panicking as your filter is about to go out, you begin choking on the polluted air as it finally goes, and you manage to find a corpse with a still usable filter on its mask. Swapping it out with your filthy one before you black out. Only giving you another 2 minutes before suffocation, as you have to fight through hordes of mutants with only 6 shotgun rounds to reach safety. You're constantly put in these situations of insurmountable odds and absolute terrifying horror, where it isn't just the monsters and the people, but even the environment is completely inhospitable, bleak, hopeless, and will kill you. Barely scraping by and managing to survive is a good day. It's one of the few games that excels at environmental storytelling. You don't need a cutscene or an NPC to feed it all to you. You see and feel the story happening around you. If you play it on an easier difficulty like any ordinary single player first person shooter and just rush through it without trying to mentally place yourself in Artyom's shoes, you'll be bored as fuck.
Forest level was beautiful though really short… the cannibal remnants of the government and the final level with the blind ones were my favs the dead city the over kill of radiation, the back story on what they were doing there
Novosibirsk was my favorite by far. Completely DEAD city. Empty. The only survivor you find and slowly uncovering his story was brilliant. And all the shit you have to go through just to complete your mission there is nuts. You go through so much shit in such a short time, enough to traumatize 200 men.
I didn't have the opportunity to play Metro Exodus until recently, despite being a Metro fan. Once I was able to get my hands on a ps5, I instantly remembered Exodus, which I somehow avoided spoilers on for years- and I am so fucking happy with it. Did a playthrough on the normal difficulty, and got the bad ending. Now, I'm doing a ranger hardcore playthrough, and despite the difficulty spike I'm having more fun somehow. It's not a surface level difficulty spike, it's rarer resources and ammo which makes me explore more despite the added tension and fear that I could die at any moment. Stealth feels far more rewarding and useful, and I'm just in love with the game. Can't find myself playing anything else for long, and it's been a month.
You’re right about taking your time. I’m playing it on the Series S and very much agree with your review. It takes a minute to settle in. Make sure to turn the aiming sensitivity all the way up because the game is slower paced
Love your content man. I'd been wanting to try this game for a while and finally got it on sale for like $10 a couple weeks ago. Great timing for this video!
This game brought me to gaming. This was my 1 big 3A game that i watched and i had to get it and i loved it and a year later i get 2033 and last light redux and these are mu top 3 games still after 3 years
I bought exodus on its release and had the same experience as you. Stopped playing at the same point. Went back to it a year later and loved it. I played through it 2 or 3 times and got every trophy. I absolutely love Metro Exodus. Plus it has Two Colonels which is very classic Metro and Sam's Story which is just as good as the base game. Game is phenomenal.
This video captures my feeling towards this game picked it up sometime saw open world and was burnt on that so I put it down picked it up last week on sale on steam and re tried it and was blown away fucking awesome game
Been wanting to play this game the year it dropped, but having a not too good of a PC (1050Ti and an i5-8400) I knew I should wait until upgrading, writing this now, 3 years after it’s release, just finished the game, running on an RTX 3080, the wait was worth it. I never knew about the enhanced version and how poor the lighting was, I’m glad I played with ray tracing, got to enjoy the full experience. I’ll surely miss this game
Metro Saga is one of the best in the industry. When it comes to Exodus I fell in love with it day one. Finished it 4x on hardest difficulty, got platinum trophy twice (original + enhanced edition) played the DLCs as well. Now when we know there is 1 singleplayer metro game in development alongside with Metro Online I cannot wait to see what marvels 4A Games will achieve.
I just got this game around Christmas and played through it in its entirety (I think that I got the good ending) and loved it. I just played the the two coronels last month and I am currently playing through Sam's story. It's a new addition to my list of favorite games that I've played along with hellblade which I just played through for the first time aswell.
Have you seen Whitelights video on exodus ? It mainly talks about the Dev cycle of this game and why the game became like this definitely recommend and it just makes me respect developers so much more
Turning the hud off on ranger hardcore really helps immerse you. Reminds me of a more immersive Fallout 4 Survival playthrough but MetroEx is next level with its encounters.
I just got a ps4 sale where all 3 metro game for like 20 bucks. I had played metro 2033 on Xbox 360 but never finished it because I didn’t really like story games like that, I was more into multiplayer fps games. Just finished 2033 and in the middle of dying light and can’t wait for the last game. Just started playing the metro games and it already in my top 5.
I absolutely love the Metro series. It's my number 1 favorite franchise of all time and each time I play feels like the first time. With Exodus, I was a bit disappointed that it had open world maps, seeing that it was becoming like these other games. But this one was a bit of a refresher for me. Caspian level, one of the side objectives was to free all the slaves in that giant ship. First playthrough I didn't free them, which highly effected that levels ending, with Damir staying behind. Unlike most games, where misc objectives don't change much, I really enjoyed how Exodus did it. Get a good or bad ending for a level, will determine the ending for the game. Volga map I really enjoyed and was my favorite, Caspian felt too empty and big, Taiga always kept my on edge, my mind constantly thinking that the giant bear was gonna attack me at any time, Novosibirsk gave me complete nostalgia, fighting the classic Nosalasies, and going past the Blind Ones really reminded me of the Librarian level in 2033. Overall, Exodus is easily my favorite single player game of all time and can't wait to see what Deep Silver along with Glukhovsky has in mind for a next game. I'm certain I heard something about there being a fourth installment, which gives me even more hype, which also makes me hope whether there will be a fourth book coming out before then. Lastly, I just loved how in Volga, with Anna falling down into the waste bunker and getting irradiated, the game took its time to show the effects. At first, she was fine, but as the game progressed, her coughing got worse, passing out, and just feeling too weak by the Taiga level. During all that, also really showed the relationship between Artyom and Colonel Miller, Miller giving Artyom so much shit about this and that but eventually becoming a better father figure, especially at the end of the game, even more so with the good ending. Ok, very last thing, if I were to ever witness a nuclear apocalypse, Metro is by far the most realistic that I can see happening, from the homemade weapons (2033 bigun just blows me away), mutants, surroundings, and how life would go
Step's to sucess: 1. Buy Metro Exodus 2. Play all the way to Caspian sea 3. Crash your game walking up a tugboat 4. Don't complete the game 5. Get worn out finding a solution to your problem 6. Spend 2 and 1/2 hours trying solutions 7. Fail 8. Download a 100% save 9. Load the Summer chapter 10. Complete the game ??. Crash 2 chapters later
I played Metro 2033, Last Light and then Exodus in a row this month for the first time. I loved all of them whole heartedly. I also felt Exodus was by far better because Artyum was able to leave the Metro and see some of the world outside. I never for a second felt like anything was missing. All three felt the same and they got better as went to the next game. Superb stories and excellent execution. I fucking love Metro and I really don’t understand how I never heard of it until I was looking through the Steam store and found it. Loved the preview so I bought all three in a bundle for a pretty decent price. I’ve even finished Sam’s Story. Which was great since I’m literally an American from San Diego. Just like Sam. Oorah!
The devs really nailed translating the feeling of metro to a more open level format, I jumped straight from last light to exodus and I felt no alienation at all. My personal favorite is the Caspian because it really capitalizes on the openness aspect while the Volga seems to follow a branching paths approach. The taiga isn't done justice as a linear level imo, it's much bigger than yamantau a lot less climactic than novosibirsk and allows you access to only one specific weapon for a good chunk of its duration, it just feels boring on repeat playthroughs compared to the other chapters. Novosibirsk is perfect as a final level and a throwback to the series' roots. Also, you should try the dlcs if you haven't. The two colonels is peak old school metro while Sam's story is a bit like taiga in the sense that it's a linear series of open smaller areas.
The only thing that breaks the immersion for me are the cinematic moments that take away control from the player. I still enjoyed and was immersed in the overall experience of the game, but then I think about half life 2 and how that game never took any control away from the player and how immersive that was.
Agreed, if we had control of the cutscene moments this would probably be the most immersive game ever made. I can look past it personally because 95% of the time you are in control and doing sick shit yourself.
2:40 Hey James! I think I kind of know your taste in video games based from your retrospectives and reviews and if there's one game that I would definitely recommend you: it's hollow knight. I know you like exploration-type games and games that really let you immerse yourself into the world and if you ask me, (and a LOT of other people) there's no other game that does it quite like Hollow Knight. If you would give it a try (and maybe even make a video on it) I would really like that! Edit: if you do try it out, be warned. It has Dark Souls like bosses and as such some of them are brutally difficult so watch out for that
I bought it in 2022, in such a lack luster gaming era after beating it I was actually sad and I cried after feeling nothing from all recent games. Beautiful game. This was my first game and I plan on getting the others as soon as possible. Also the DLC Slaps HARD
Had the game back in 2020 but only started playing it this weekend as I had recently able to purchase a new GPU. I'm glad it's getting a good review as initially I what had happened behind the scenes.
I went through the exact same feelings with this game. Except I didn’t even try it. I’m playing through it now… I am loving it. Glad I waited to some degree because of burnout. But I’m just totally immersed in this game unlike so many other games.
Absolutely loved this game. The world building and attention to detail is astonishing. Also the connection with the other characters really made me feel like I was a part of the game and kept me immersed throughout.
huh. we had the literal same experience with exodus. i wonder how common a thing it is for people to drop the game in that desert map, then pick it up again later on
Would definitely be interested to see metrics of people’s playtime with Exodus were it possible. I remember a lot of people feeling similar to me around release
I had the same story and same exact experience. Left off at the same spot in the game and moved on. Always wanted to come back but never did. I was looking for something new to play recently and was tired of that ubsoft experience because that was the only games really out. Heard they upgraded it metro for the PS5 and wanted to go back and it was refreshing. Sucks that I had to start back over because PS5 doesn't transfer your save but it was still worth the ride
Oh dude you have no idea how happy this made me, I was kind of sad when you gave up on Exodus the first time because I think it's an incredible game, very different from the first two of course but still very good, and I knew you would see that if you kept at it so this is awesome. I haven't even watched the whole video yet but damn really really happy you went back to it. That fucking last level man in the city jaaayyyysus its good. Anyway I'm gonna watch the video now take care :) Btw the DLCs are definitely worth playing in my opinion, 1st one is linear, 2nd more open
I LOVE all the Metro games. I remember how much I felt I had to rush the last map the first time. Because, you are there for a reason after all. In that scary map... I had to rush. No time limit or anything, I just felt I had to rush. Oh, and in the part after Volga as well, I love that part. THAT map makes me feel like a freaking terminator. Fucking love this game. Wait, it came out 3 years ago? Damn... Still no news about a sequel though, I am so damn thirsty
Exodus was the first metro game I played so I didn't have anything to compare it too. I loved it though and now I'm going through the first 2 and loving them too. The only problem I had with exodus is that on my standard ps4 the load times were brutal. All that gorgeous scenery, that still looks great even on my old hardware, just meant it could take quite a while to actually get into the game whenever you wanted to play.
This was me with Witcher 3. It took me 7 years to actually play the game I bought all those years ago in earnest. As of right now it's my 2022 game of the year. A little late to the party but damn what a party it is.
DUUUUDE .... I did the exact same thing as you, I started 2033 when it first came out and never beat it, ended up going back fell in love and picked up Exodus, played till Voga and quit.... 2 years later picked it back up got to Volga and once I was half way through I got re-immersed into the series! now I'm waiting for the book 2033 in the mail and I don't even read lol
I am a really big fan of the metro games. I also recently replayed metro exodus, and it was a blast. I didn't finish it last time cuz I kinda got burnt out. I ended up running out of resources and got exhausted dying over and over again in some parts. Luckily, I was a lot better the second time, and now it's my top 10 best fps games!
Jumping straight into Metro Exodus after playing 2033 and Last Light was a little strange, being outside of the tunnel and stuff, but fuck dude it’s so incredible, I loved the game so much, the characters were incredible, I absolutely loved the atmosphere of the outer hell of Moscow I stretched out my play through throughout few weeks just exploring everything I could, the full immersion of the game I felt was incredible and I’m debating on sinking my teeth into a new game plus play through to get everything I missed Let alone the graphics on this game are bloody incredible, and I could go on and on about the graphics. Stumbling upon the random encounters in each of their unique locations. The gun play in this game, feels clunky and gritty, but in a good way? it’s perfect how you move around with the setting, with more bobbing when just wandering around which adds to the immersion even more And the finale of this game, in the last location with the Colonel was such a great callback to the OG metro games and the culmination of running through the last little hospital screaming for my life with 0 bullets dodging the blind ones still holds into my memory now I, Bloody, LOVE this game period. I cannot put it into words but if you see this on sale with that being on Steam, Xbox, or PS. It is 100% worth the purchase
I loved Exodus on launch, but I have yet to play the DLCs so I really need to jump back in, and this video definitely makes me think it should be sooner rather than later
The way they implemented the open world though is very different from Ubisoft, it made you want to explore. Every place is different and a lot of the places has something for you to gain if you do explore. A lot of the things are not automated in Metro franchise, even you have to press a button. I think that is what made Metro franchise special. Even how you discover interest point is not automated like Ubisoft games, you have to scan with your binoculars and you can use them anytime anywhere and if you are not careful, you might even miss some interest points. It doesn't tell you what the points of interest are too, simply gave you a "?" on the map. The problem with Ubisoft is they tell you everything, there is no more sense of discovery. Not to mention the survival elements that it implemented is very immersive.
Yes, I 100% agree. This video isn’t reinforcing the idea it’s a Ubisoft type game, it’s pushing back against it. I explain my original thought process and then explore why that was actually wrong.
@@LazerzZ Yes you get your point across very clearly, just trying to elaborate more about why I love the series and why I don't have the same high regards regarding Ubisoft open world
I agree. I was a huge fan of the first 2. Replayed several times on PC. Then Exodus I played once and thought it was ok. I am now replaying it and really taking my time and loving it. It runs so smooth on a 3080ti and the graphics are amazing. It really is a lot of fun. The sand level is still not my favorite and I really wish they had done more with the Bunker level and explored the cannibalisms but other than that it is great.
I loved exodus the moment I played it. It’s a great game. Also at the story spoilers section you mention that you forgot all the characters from the first 2 but none of them are actually in the first two games except for Anna and Miller and of course Artyom lol
i still feel like metro exodus wasn’t as “metro” as last light, but i also had the perspective of playing a lot of fo1,2,4 and skyrim so i was probably looking at it through a different lens than the creators imagined but i think last light will forever be my favorite
James one game id love for you to play is SOMA i feel you'd really appreciate it its a tight game that is linear and takes place underwater with an incredible narrative
When I got this game I played the crap of it, I loved it when it came out I loved the previous titles since I was a kid and exodus was a breath of fresh air and it made it fun, it felt like the old games but also with a new design. This game is my top 3, 2033 and Last light the other two
The Stalker Series always made me wish for an open world component to the Metro Series. Exodus was all of that and more. Even if it was more sand-boxy I would have still been satisfied with playing it. Graphics and creative gunplay can take me a long way. However it was littered with memorable locations, set pieces, and unforgettable quests. Perhaps it’s just a different way of pacing. It never keeps you in constant open world lull. The story then would be carried by their classic linear excellence. Thank you for the video!
I spend in oryginal metro exodus when it drop on steam in 2020 80h... I spend 80h in first pt... And now when i own rtx im ready to come back to this world and play in EEdition and sink again, this is what gaming should be.
I love open world games the bigger the better as long as they make it interesting especially like games that allow modding. There’s not a lot of replay value in those old metro games walking through linear tunnels
OK something completely off topic,,really liked your vid on Red dead redemption 2,,,perfect prequel just wondering why you never did a,, Let's play,, of it ? For whatever reason ,missed opportunity I guess,,would have like to have seen it,
I think one thing that I've always enjoyed about Metro are the stations: Each station has its own culture, its own way of doing things.

That feels so relevant now than ever tbh.
I don't think i've ever seen the crosshair before in a metro game. That sight alone has been an educational experience
@@Liam-co1bw
Yeah for real. The only time crosshairs are useful are in arena shooters like Halo, Doom or CSGO.
100% agree, specially with that flamethrower action.
Fantastic DLC but I didn't really like the overuse of the flamethrower. Minor gripe. Well worth the money
I cried like a little bitch on the ending and dlc’s one too
I didn’t enjoy it as much as the sam DLC and got kinda bored of the flamethrower, but the story of that DLC was beautiful, wrapping up the loose ends left between Artyom and the Colonel’s last few hours
Yea it's really great. Plus, it wins just for having more worms and more Novosibirsk (best level in the maim game)
I own all 3 books and all the games. This series is absolutely amazing. Anyone who plays it loves it so I think she gets lots of love.
The DLC is incredible too. Especially The Two Colonels. That one is near perfection!
Sam story is so good
Two colonels is almost an interactive movie, but the end is really well done.
After being able to get that open world taste this was quite the opposite and little bit disappointing.
@@xXDESTINYMBXx I saw how small the dlc was and chalked it up as a waste of time so I won't be doing 2 colonels
@@1div2agent74 you should give it a try, it's a great pov of the story.
You're missing out, seriously@@1div2agent74
I had the exact same experience with Exodus. I even stopped at the same point. I don't know that I'll be diving back in like you did, but I am at least thinking about Metro again. Thanks for the video.
Man same but I played my first game play thru hardcore and I’m not sure if that what made me stopped playing but I remember I so was invested than just stop like if I got bored but idk… I stoped during the desert region.
I might due a reply or play from where I left off
My favorite game in this series. Scored 100% achievements in both versions (original and RTX Enhanced) and played for a total of 230 hours between those two.
GOAT
I mean st petersburg would be very interesting to see
I think continuing Sam’s story in America would be amazing for a spin-off type game
You cried because metro exodus is emotional not like Tlou 2 LMAO
@@youamazing41 i guess @Galuna
Is one of the lucky people that can emotionally fully engage in a game...
Could be a curse as well though 😅
Same. I decided to play the first two before getting Exodus. Best decision ever. Retroactively playing the older games would dilute the experience.
A bunch of exodus retrospectives came out recently and I’m glad to hear your take. I loved all the games but Exodus really drew me in
This is my personal favorite Metro game is just the story was just so good so many memorable moments on the Aurora. DLCs endings are so sad
8:33 the worst thing i have experienced as viever is streamers rush through a metro game in case of "boring", instead of normal gaming i came for
Honestly i instantly melded with the open world the momemt i played it.
The Caspian is one of my favorite video game levels ever. Love that little beat-up van you have to drive around that feels like it's on its last legs.
bro literally same. couple of hours into caspian and stopped playing for 3 years and just started replaying it yesterday
Metro Exodus deserves "Most immersive gameplay" award.
Both you and the NPC damage output gets increased with the difficulty, so it only takes 1-2 shots for you to kill them, but it also only takes 1-2 shots for them to kill you.
metro exodus was the first AAA game i bought full price, worth every penny.
Welcome to the club naysayer... This is one of my all-time favorite games. Cheers!
Don't play Exodus first! Play them in order! Trust me!
this past two weeks I just beat far cry 5 and then New Dawn.. but this, this right here is hands down the greatest game I've ever played it's so immersive it's unreal it makes you feel a part of the world I would check the radio after every mission to see how people progressed in the parts of Russia we helped and had left behind
it’s crazy, when i first started playing the game i had that same burnout dreaded feeling knowing i had to traverse through an open world but coming back to it recently it’s so fun satisfying and enjoyable.
Im literally replaying this game right now because of the same exact reasons, open world fatigue. Except I decided to replay the first two to refresh my memory. I love those games, literally top 5s and I hope this game is just as good, and better. I only played maybe 2 or 3 missions 3 years ago and im happy to fully play it now
Honestly by far my favorite game to release in the last SEVERAL years
Ashes Afterglow reminded me in some ways of Metro Exodus.
I absolutely loved the open world of Metro Exodus, it's one of the best Features in the game and makes it so incredebly immersive.
Wow this is exactly what happened to me. Gave up at caspian for exact same reasons. You have encouraged me to pick it back up!
Have you checked out the DLCs? I'd definitely recommend them, they're just more Metro, and that's always good!
Great video as always, James! Enjoy watching your content and streams
I would love to but this game crashes on ps5 it’s unplayable I wish I could get a refund
It mainly talks about the Dev cycle of this game and why the game became like this definitely recommend and it just makes me respect developers so much more
I’ll have to give it a watch, love the guy’s stuff
Turning the hud off on ranger hardcore really helps immerse you. Reminds me of a more immersive Fallout 4 Survival playthrough but MetroEx is next level with its encounters.
I just got a ps4 sale where all 3 metro game for like 20 bucks. I had played metro 2033 on Xbox 360 but never finished it because I didn’t really like story games like that, I was more into multiplayer fps games. Just finished 2033 and in the middle of dying light and can’t wait for the last game. Just started playing the metro games and it already in my top 5.
Metro... My favourite game franchise, favourite book franchise and Exodus my favourite game.
This series is what I call masterpiece
Ok, very last thing, if I were to ever witness a nuclear apocalypse, Metro is by far the most realistic that I can see happening, from the homemade weapons (2033 bigun just blows me away), mutants, surroundings, and how life would go
Step's to sucess:
1. Buy Metro Exodus
2. Play all the way to Caspian sea
3. Crash your game walking up a tugboat
4. Don't complete the game
5. Get worn out finding a solution to your problem
6. Spend 2 and 1/2 hours trying solutions
7. Fail
8. Download a 100% save
9. Load the Summer chapter
10. Complete the game
It has Dark Souls like bosses and as such some of them are brutally difficult so watch out for that
I’ll jot it down 👌🏻
I bought it in 2022, in such a lack luster gaming era after beating it I was actually sad and I cried after feeling nothing from all recent games.
I want to play this game, nice video!
What is the game at @1:33 ?
The people that still play these games are chads
man I can't imagine what those spider sections must have felt like for someone with arachnophobia I'm so sorry for you.
huh. we had the literal same experience with exodus.
i wonder how common a thing it is for people to drop the game in that desert map, then pick it up again later on
Would definitely be interested to see metrics of people’s playtime with Exodus were it possible.
I've played this to death and that music and Miller dying always brings a tear to my eye RIP comrade
I just started playing metro, hopped in on Ranger Hardcore Limited Hud for first playthrough
I really like this length of video! Hope you do more - it was very enjoyable.
Anyway I'm gonna watch the video now take care :)
Btw the DLCs are definitely worth playing in my opinion, 1st one is linear, 2nd more open
Its even on sale in steam now for -90% and all the other games of the franchise are on sale as well for ultra cheap so it is worth getting !!!
Brought it a few weeks ago on the ps5 from the UK store sale. Only £6. Looks amazing.
This was me with Witcher 3. It took me 7 years to actually play the game I bought all those years ago in earnest. As of right now it's my 2022 game of the year. A little late to the party but damn what a party it is.
your videos deserve way more traction mate
Jumping straight into Metro Exodus after playing 2033 and Last Light was a little strange, being outside of the tunnel and stuff, but fuck dude it’s so incredible, I loved the game so much, the characters were incredible, I absolutely loved the atmosphere of the outer hell of Moscow
I stretched out my play through throughout few weeks just exploring everything I could, the full immersion of the game I felt was incredible and I’m debating on sinking my teeth into a new game plus play through to get everything I missed
Let alone the graphics on this game are bloody incredible, and I could go on and on about the graphics. Stumbling upon the random encounters in each of their unique locations.
The gun play in this game, feels clunky and gritty, but in a good way? it’s perfect how you move around with the setting, with more bobbing when just wandering around which adds to the immersion even more
And the finale of this game, in the last location with the Colonel was such a great callback to the OG metro games and the culmination of running through the last little hospital screaming for my life with 0 bullets dodging the blind ones still holds into my memory now
I, Bloody, LOVE this game period. I cannot put it into words but if you see this on sale with that being on Steam, Xbox, or PS. It is 100% worth the purchase
I loved Exodus on launch, but I have yet to play the DLCs so I really need to jump back in, and this video definitely makes me think it should be sooner rather than later
If your on Xbox they had the game and DLC’s are sake for crazy low prices for another 2 days I think
I think the only defect is that you don't play with Miller in the last chapter, to find out what he did before finding Arthyom.
i still feel like metro exodus wasn’t as “metro” as last light, but i also had the perspective of playing a lot of fo1,2,4 and skyrim so i was probably looking at it through a different lens than the creators imagined but i think last light will forever be my favorite
I really missed ulman and his jokes from metro last light and 2033
Metro Exodus my second fravorite game tbh
It was good the first time lol and had decent reviews, was there something I missed?
I explained in the video why I wasn't into it the first time. This is a video from my perspective for maybe others who feel like I did not.

If the shooting wasn't so garbage I'd play the fuck out of it.
