I have made this braided wreath bread with the eggs baked in several times for Easter. It always gets remarks of amazement and happiness when set on the side-board. My mother especially liked it. The younger children draw lot (straws) for the eggs.🥚🥚🥚🥚 Three strand braid represents the "Holy Trinity". Four eggs represent four branches of Christ's cross. The wreath shape represents the circle of life. Thanks for sharing.
The eggs turn out like hard boiled?
I’m curious too about the eggs baked and are they similar to hard boiled ?
@@mel924 To perfection!
@@sharihardin1 Cooked to perfection.
@@mel924 Prolly turned out like "baked eggs"; but the pink ones looked great.
I swear your voice just brightens my day. Also, I tried your butter cream icing on a cake recipe and OMG it was delicious and my family couldn’t believe it was made from scratch. 💕💗
YAY! So happy you tried the recipe and THANK YOU!!!

Channel of cake welcome 🌹
Good evening, I have to say two things, the first is that I like your channel, the second is, what is the recipe that the person above is referring to?@@PreppyKitchen
Could you write the name of the video of that recipe?
I am Sicilian. I grew up with same kind of Easter bread. My Nonna also made an Easter cookie with an egg baked on with icing and sprinkles. I cant wait to try this recipe 😋
I braided my first one with 3 ropes of dough and 2 ropes the second loaf because I thought it was more consistent to pull apart easier. Great add in for Easter dinner
This is like the tsoureki we make in Greece every Easter. So good! Especially if you add some masticha and machlepi. I loved your description of the tsougrisma of the eggs tradition. My grandfather always won! It's so many years that I don't pass Easter in Greece. So many traditions. It's my favourite festivity. A little sad but full of hope. Greek Orthodox Easter is so beautiful. You should Also make koulourakia. I make them every year. The best cookies in the world!
I'm Literally eating some Koulourakia as I type! So good!

Preppy Kitchen my favorite cookies.
Yes ! My mom made this every year for Easter,, now her arthritis won't let her. I need to learn. THANKS John !
And in italy tsoureki is called "pane di pasqua" 😁
John that looks great. Growing up my grandmother would make this also she'd make these Italian cookies the same kind of method they had icing sugar on it with the sprinkles on them too.

Very very pretty bread! Amazing idea with the colourful eggs on top! Here in Bulgaria we only put one red egg in the middle of the sweet Eastern bread called Kozunak. 😊
That is so interesting! Similar to Greek Easter too!

John. I love that you actually had to think about how you braid the bread. It means that you are a TRUE baker.
Not everything comes to us so easy, especially when we aren't comfortable with dough!❤
Made this today pre-Easter. It was the best texture and flavor of the many I have made. There's a bit more sugar than some recipes and that helped. But I am glad that I didn't make it on Easter morning because my rising times were huge -- about double what John recommended to get sufficient puffiness. Sometimes that happens, and you have to wait. It worked.
Love that you made Easter bread! I still make tsouraki like my mom did, but might try your method instead this year. Your Greek is excellent! Kalo Pascha!
ua-cam.com/video/hiKodhvqlz4/v-deo.html
I made this for the first time for Easter morning. Came out amazing! I didn't add the colored eggs but put a glaze on after it cooled. It reminds me so much of my Italian grandmas Easter bread that she made for all of us every Easter. Your instructions helped so much and I definitely plan to make this again. Every recipe I have tried from your site has been the best!!
The eggs 🥚 are beautiful 😍
I made this today with my mum and it was so much fun! I was a bit confused when I had to braid the dough but my mum kept me going. She took the ends of my hair while I took the ends of the dough and we began braiding together. It was so funny but my heart was warm by the end of our baking session.Thank you for sharing this recipe! It’s been awhile since my mum baked bread with me and she really enjoyed it.
I’m going to try to use your recipe, but also add some of anise and other Greek flavorings to it. Thanks for helping solve my life long Greek Easter bread struggles!
ua-cam.com/video/hiKodhvqlz4/v-deo.html
Thank you John for sharing this recipe with us, I will definitely bake this for Easter this year! By the way, here in Austria we play this game with the eggs too. We call it "Eierpecken", with loosely translates to egg stinging. It's one of the best parts of our Easter celebration, especially when the kids win :) Have a great Easter holiday!
😂😂😂
John, Thank you so much. My first try at this was very successful. Appreciated your step by step approach and personal touch with the cracking eggs. i actually won last night with the egg cracking! My Easter Bread looks amazing and can't wait till Sunday to slice and taste.
Sooooo delicious and the video just puts a big smile on my face! This is, by the way, similar to how I make brioche! I mix the dough for 20 (!) minutes, not less!
Happy Easter days to you and your family! 🐇🐣🌷🌷
My dough is tough and tears, do I keep mixing more??
I’m sending my mom this so we can make it for Easter!!

Greek Easter bread was also a tradition in my home growing up, but with anise flavor. This was a great reminder to bring back that tradition!

I have made this several times, a coworker gave me the recipe years ago and this is the first time I have seen it made on UA-cam. Thanks for sharing.
Most Italian households have a grandma who makes this bread. My grandma made each of us a small basket like version with a handle. My parents didn’t have lot of $$ for chocolates so we each got a bread basket with the colored eggs and our names. Then one average size “family” basket with assorted candies and a large chocolate bunny to share. My Mom would cut bunny foot prints out of construction paper and place them around the house for us to find goodies. Two things we always had for Easter was pastiera, which is bucatini pasta, copious amounts of Romano cheese and black pepper mixed together with butter and one dozen eggs. Poured into casserole and bake. So yummy. And then sliced up cold the next day for lunch! Mom also made anisette cookies with sprinkles and fresh cannoli. Lamb or ham with all fixings. Easter Mass where my dad got each of us, 8 girls, each a corsage and mom got us Easter bonnets. Good memories!
Thanks for this! My Italian Grandma made this and so did my nonItalian Mom but I never attempted it, nor do I have their recipe. Since your sourdough bread recipe is my go to, I'm sure this will be wonderful!
I have never seen, nor heard of Easter bread. This is why I watch these things.
Trying out your formula today, thank you so much for sharing! 😊🙏... In case you're still wondering about braiding: I'm Austrian and we traditionally make 6 strand braids for All Saints Day (= 1st Nov.). The trick about braiding really is that you don't want to start out with tooooo long strands. They'll just give you massive headache. So basically, you would start with strands half the size of yours (at max.) Then you pull slighty as needed while braiding. The strands tend to become longer when lifted anyways, because of the dough's weight.
I'm glad I saw this. I need to bring something to an Easter brunch at church and as bread is my favorite thing this looks perfect!
I love when you said it reminded you off Greek bread and that you are part Greek me too
I'm going to try this for the first time since Easter is coming. You make it look so easy, thank you!
It's a comfort that even you have trouble with some things 😂 this bread is so yummy
Oh my goodness! That’s the cutest bake ever! How did I miss this????
John , I have recently learned the "clock " method of braiding. It gets higher and beautiful!
Can you please do some Greek recipes 🥰 🇬🇷 x
How wonderful to hear Greek customs and Greek words! Happy 🐣 Easter
I made this today as my first yeast bread and it was absolutely amazing! I can’t wait to make it for a holiday
Thank you I've been looking for a bread recipe for Easter. That looks delicious. Thank you for sharing and keep on caking 💜

my grandma makes this breads every year but with jam it is so guy I can eat it every day😍😍😍
Loved this! We used to all make a special decorated egg to be our champion in the egg fights Easter morning- so much fun- great memories! Thanks for sharing this. Love from CT
Does anyone know if the eggs are cooked and edible at the end…Or are they just decorative (?)
I was wondering that too
Thank you ,for the memories,I remember the red eggs and trying to crack other people eggs who sat at the table for orthodox Easter.❤
This is the most relaxing video. I have a playlist started of baking videos to watch while I'm in labor. A lot of yours are in there lol
Yesss! An Easter Recipe! Sooo excited to try it🤩
Happy Baking!!

I have made about 12 to 15 if your recipes. All are perfect except I found the hot cross buns needed about 500 g of flour initially. What I like is that the recipes are easily accessible and printable. Some cooking sites make it pretty tough to get a nicely formatted printed recipe. Keep them coming!
ua-cam.com/video/hiKodhvqlz4/v-deo.html
I love watching you cooking and baking. We love your waffles recipe. We are Lebanese and we the have the cracking eggs tradition on Easter 🐣
Sweet yeast dough is my favorite to work with. The colored eggs are so festive baked into the top. Thanks for being my baking twin, john.

My Pop always bought a huge ring of Easter bread from an Italian bakery..Good memories…
Wooow, it s look verry delicious, here in Germany , that's a tradition , to make this Bread on Eastern with the color eggs 😉or we bake little breads and drop the egg in the Middle 😅
I wish you and your Family a very happy and blessed Easter 😊🐰
I like the pink eggs!!! I am going to make this bread for Easter lunch. I will take you a picture and let you know how it turns out...Thanks for the recipe.
Hey John. This recipe is simple, cool and inviting. I will try it once before Easter and another for Easter. Thanks a million. Blessings from Cairo. Efkharisto from an Egyptian Greek ❤
I so totally sympathized with your braiding trepidation! My first brioche I was prouder of the braid than the bread! The whys and wherefores elevate your recipes and inspire even experienced cooks. Love your channel!

You're not the only one that makes. John canale
You and your mom should bless us with a Greek Easter video. I loved the story and it would be cute to see the twins play it if you all still celebrate it.
This bread looks fun! I might give it a try.
ua-cam.com/video/hiKodhvqlz4/v-deo.html
I miss having these braided breads from éons ago. Thanks for the sweet reminder!
We did the egg tapping as we grew up hearing it called. My mother's side were Lithuanian, though. Great grandparents died their eggs with onion skins. Possibly from their garden. We still do the egg tapping or smashing every year.
We have the same traditional egg cracking game in China, lol. Kids love it. We hold the egg in a beautiful small hand made net bag ( we hang it on neck like a necklace ) so we can play this game in school with other kids.
My absolute favorite thing to make for Easter!
Omg, I remember the egg cracking game! I am half Greek too from my mother's side. She used to make this yummy Easter bread. I never mastered the art of bread making, but my daughter want's to try some this year. Your bread wreath is just beautiful, and the colored eggs are lovely. I really enjoy watching your channel, everything you make looks beautiful and delicious. Happy Easter to you and your family.

Made this today. Just took it out. It's beautiful and smells delicious ❤ thank you so much for the awesome video!
Wow!! I love a delicious, pillow-y soft bread! I was so impressed by the eggs - how you colored them, and how they didn’t explode in the oven! I thought eggs would explode if they were heated outside of water, but maybe that just happen in the microwave?? Anyways. I love this and your family’s traditions! Thank you for sharing 💜
One year I was invited to a large Easter Brunch. I made individual braids and braided ring Easter bread with beautiful coloured eggs and placed them in baskets. They were beautiful and people did not eat them - they took them home because they thought they were too nice to eat!!
I love the speckled pink eggs!!
Wonderful!
Beautiful!!!!
Thank you!
Bless you and family!
Love all your recipes. You are a pleasure to listen to, Do you boil the eggs before baking the bread or do they cook while baking?
It says on the website recipe is uncooked just put in the color
I am a Marrazzo by birth from MA
My Mom, who was Sicilian, made something similar. It was a sweet cookie dough though. It was called Pupa cu l’ova.
I have no words. You're amazing! Thank you for this recipe! Personally, I've never liked the traditional spices (masticha and machlepi). I prefer your version of tsoureki. Χριστός Ανέστη!😊🕯️✝️🐑
Wow! 😃 is so pretty!😃👍🤍 I think bread will be very soft!!!I think I can smell the fragrant bread from here!😋🤤 Thank you so much for the wonderful recipe!🤍🤍
I'm from Bulgaria and we do the egg-cracking tradition as well😊
In Switzerland we also colour our eggs red after wrapping them with little flowers or grass which creates a pattern on the egg. And yes we still do it with onion skin and crack them afterwards (not only the children) :)
I made this bread and it was a hit at the church breakfast
so what do ya do with the eggs after?
My Italian neighbor made this every year and brought it over. Memories.
I am Portuguese and we also have this exact same bread for Easter. I'm going to follow your recipe.

My mom used to make Paksa Easter bread years ago. The color eggs always made it so pretty. It was ironic your recipe came up, I had been thinking of finding her recipe and making it for Easter🐰🐥
ua-cam.com/video/hiKodhvqlz4/v-deo.html
I love the pink eggs they look speckled
Starting this as an Easter tradition. Used my Easter egger's eggs to skip the egg dye step!
Hello John…I have been trying to order your cookbook Preppy Kitchen ( the book behind you in this video ) with no luck! I’m in Australia and they don’t have it at all at my Amazon outlet 😞 You are an amazing cook, and I look forward to every recipe you make! Especially the gorgeous cakes and cheesecakes! ♥️ You are such a joy to watch, you brighten my day a lot lol
Beautiful texture from the pink dye!
I love the pink marble look!
Thanks! This is the bright spot of my morning so far!
As a Bulgarian, I didn't actually know Greeks also share some similarities with us on Easter. Kids and adults over here love easter and getting to do egg fights and seeing who's egg is the strongest. We also make very similar Easter bread! :)
This is almost the same recipe as the one I make handed down from my grandma. We add some lemon and orange zest then after the egg wash, we add colored sprinkles. I can watch and listen to you all day…🐇
ua-cam.com/video/hiKodhvqlz4/v-deo.html
We have the same in Syria we used to do that egg cracking in Easter
ahhh this is a south philadelphia italian staple!!! just adore you so much!
Yum! I used make Swedish cardamom braided bread with my Swedish grandmother every summer. We made about eight loaves and it took most of the day, lol
ua-cam.com/video/hiKodhvqlz4/v-deo.html
Very helpful video. Looking forward to trying this Easter. Love the added sprinkles.
Palestinian Christians also have this egg cracking tradition, it's so much fun especially when the whole family participates!
Can we get a recipe for the Greek Easter Bread? I'm a convert and dying for more Greek Easter recipes!!
Also we still dye the eggs with onion skins!!
It looks good 👍
hi john...thank you...i do love the how the pink eggs came out....i love your channel cuz you crack me up making it fun...omg...your bread turned out eggcellent...lol
We always exclaimed, "Christos Anesti" before whacking someone else's egg. The cracking of the egg is supposed to symbolize the opening of the tomb. Having said that it seems more theologically correct for the person with the cracked shell to win, now that I think about it. At any rate, Christos anesti, John!
my family use to do the egg cracking tradition we are lebanese
watch you the time yours boys are so cute
The egg cracking tradition is very widespread throughout middle Europe, as is the braided Easter bread of course. What I didn't know is that they did it in Greece too. Very interesting.
I'm so glad you made this recipe! I'm so excited to make this
Vou fazer para a Páscoa ❤ obrigada, beijos from Brazil
Add anise tastes awsome
It would be fun if you could make traditional Greek food😁
I love the egg color
I just love u!!! I tried this today to take to a easter party tomorrow but I will not sure if my cheapy mixer did the job. My dough has been rising for 2 hours n it did not get as big as yours either so fingers crossed it comes out tasty lol
Happy Easter, everyone 🐣🐰
I get it! I’m Greek! It’s a whole thing for sure! 🥚
Many kisses from Greece. Love your channel ❤️ καλό Πάσχα 🐥
