Bro .you did a good job. I'm going to follow your harness routing with zip ties and through the fire wall. I heard it's good to use a relay if your going to use your switch light to come on with your accessory lights or dash board lights but the way you tied both red wires together on your switch I believe the relay is not necessary..
Glad you liked it. That was my first time doing lights and I’m no expert. There were only a couple videos on UA-cam at the time I installed mines and I basically gathered all their techniques and did mines. Just note that DO NOT wire the black ground to the battery like how I showed it in the video, rather ground it to the frame of the car. I learned that the hard way and burnt through 2 switches because the button got really hot when I would use the light. Eventually, when I regrounded it to the frame never had an issue since. The harness has a built in relay as well, all the links are in the description. Good luck!
Did you ever figure out how to get the switch to fit correctly? Mine does the same as yours… I just want it to fit right and press in and stay on when I want it to.
I saw another guys video and followed what he did, fixed it by taking some electrical tape and taping around the switch to make it “larger.” I don’t recall the video name but it works. I used the tape and went around it the switch a few times and it also grips into the button well nice and snug. Never had an issue since. I find it so weird how the the button is a little to small for the button well so it doesn’t fit correctly even though it’s listed as OEM fit. Also side note, don’t ground your black wire into the next terminal like my video, you’ll burn through the switch. I did that twice before I grounded it to the chassis and been good since.
@@short21yang Last night I actually tried something before seeing your comment. I added black silicone around the edge that fits into the slot to secure the switch and just adding a little bit of silicone allowed the button to have just the space it needs to close the switch completely (seems like Cali Raised didn't make that gap small enough). I will see if it holds up but I liked the silicone idea because it isn't permanent and doesn't ruin anything just like the electrical tape idea. and thanks for that note! I actually followed your video almost a year ago and nothing has failed yet. I will look into that and make sure I didn't ground it there. I was just sick of the button still sticking and came back to see if you had a solution yet. Thanks for the help!
@@philliprodriguez5129 Just wanted to update you. In the video I wired the black onto the battery and that's what I said previously but it finally hit me when I burnt through 2 ditch light buttons that that is incorrect. Instead, ground the black wire onto the chassis where the negative terminal battery is also grounded onto the chassis (outside the battery). It should fix the issue of having a extremely hot button and melt down of the button. I also wrote the update on the video description.
Good question man. Mines didn’t come with a relay with a metal plate. If you watch right around 9:40 you can see my relay (small black piece at the bottom right). Idk if it’s the harness I got but in some other videos on UA-cam I can see some other peoples relay (with the metal plate) but mines didn’t come that way. I just tucked mines along with the extra harness wires. And also, don’t do what I did in the video and ground it onto the negative battery, ground it to the chassis of the car (the screw right in the middle at 9:40). Learned that the hard way after burning through 2 buttons. Hope this Info helps you out
2 years later and no issues with it still. It doesn’t scratch or come close to touching the hood/paint. It mounts from under the hood using 4 screws I believe. Super easy install. Mine is from Weather Tech same as my window visors.
if everything went well, (excluding the stupid issue i had with the firewall) at least a few hours. Overall, based on the videos I've found, I think mine goes step by step. I've never wired my own lights either so it took me longer so after this, if I can do it, anyone should be able to if they follow what I did. If you need help, feel free to drop a question/comment
@@short21yang Lol!! You did a great job, man, and I appreciate the response. I do actually have a question if you don't mind one more. I didn't know I had to buy the OEM switch as it's own thing, I thought it would come with it. It'll come in about 1 week, but I want to install the lights tomorrow. Is it easy to do the main light install and just add the switch when it comes, or should I wait for it? Thanks again man!
@@ejuradohw I got my OEM switch from Cali Raised and idk why but maybe I got a lemon the switch doesn’t fit in well as per the video. I hardly use the light anyways so I doesn’t kill me. But yea, you can hook it up and everything and make sure to test the switch it came with (that red bomb looking switch) before cutting it off. Once you verify that your light hook up works, then what I would do is cut that red switch out, electrical tape it and stick it through the firewall. Then sit tight and wait for your OEM one to come in and finish it up with the wiring.
@@short21yang I was hoping you'd say something like that! Looking forward to tackling this. Thanks again for the great video and for responding. And nice rig, man!
Sorry I don't have a definitive answer for you because the relay I got was attached to the harness when I bought my lights from Rago Fab (links in the description). You can see the relay at 9:34 right above the battery, next to my left thumb, the small looking square with the red wire sticking out from it on the left side.
1st thing is did you ground it to the Neg terminal or chassis? If you read my video description Update, do not ground to the neg terminal. The button gets hot, gonna smell like burning plastic, and most likely you’ll burn the button. So I can tell you right off the bat, you’ll need a new button because it’s starting to melt.
@@stickfiggas22 in my video I combined both reds from the switch together, what you can do is redo the wiring and not use the red wire that’s to the left of the black one. I’ve seen some videos of other installs and they neglected that red wire. Hopefully that’ll fix the issue. But in the mean time, I would order another switch just in case. I burnt through 2 switches before I realized I shouldn’t have put the ground on the neg battery terminal.

Hello. Great video. One question. Did you ground your black wire outside the battery or did you hook up to battery like the red. ?? Thank you
I hook it straight onto the battery just like the red wire and it hasn’t caused an issue since the install. Check it out at 22:25

For your hood defector, does it scratch the paint on top of the front grille?
