  • How to Install Ditch Lights in the 5th Gen Toyota 4Runner. I used the ProComp lights, but you can use any type of ditch light you'd like. If you do any night country driving, ditch lights will make a big difference when spotting wildlife or terrain. Ditch lights come in spot, flood, or combo lenses. Some can also be backlit, which typically requires an add-a-fuse connection.

    Thanks for the video! Unsure about the painter's blue tape but sounds logical and an easy pre-cautionary task so I put some tape on it too!

      I’m not sure about the tape either. Maybe not necessary at all. I’ve seen others do it so figure it won’t hurt.

      Thanks! Not from Duluth, it's a few hours drive for me, although I get there every year. Love that area.

    I’m having an issue where my switch light stays on when not engaged and when the car is off. How to I get it to where it lights only when engaged like in the video?

    • @sunroomstudios8487
      @sunroomstudios8487  Рік тому

      Be sure you’re using a relay. The switch should not be wired directly to the accessory, only through a relay in the wiring harness. If you have a relay, make sure it’s not faulty and it’s wired correctly. You may be bypassing the relay somehow. The other possibility is that your switch is sticking and not fully disengaging. Some vehicles need that little O-ring to seat the switch fully and some don’t. Hope that helps! Good luck!

    I just installed ditch lights on my 4runner. How did you get the switch wiring through the firewall grommet? Thanks.

      It’s easier to push the ditch light wiring harness through from the direction of under the hood towards the cabin. Some people tape it to a more rigid wire (like a coat hanger wire) and feed it through that way. It’s easiest with 2 people, one feeding and the other inside. My other video on front facing camera install shows this a bit more. Good luck and congratulations on the ditch lights! I use mine way more than I thought I would.

      @sunroomstudios8487 I'll give that a try. Thank you.

    so that's a universal bracket i assume, or does one have to find brackets specific to make/model? if universal, those brackets should install onto a 2013 suburban similarly? thanks for the video. very helpful

      @sunroomstudios8487  Рік тому +1

      Most brackets are specific to make/model due to the tight clearance and maintaining a functional hood. You can add your vehicle make/model on Amazon and it’ll tell you which brackets fit or not. Good luck! They are super cool! Thanks for watching!

      @sunroomstudios8487 after my comment I realized that and found one for my suburban. Thanks again!

    Do you take it through the car wash?? How does it handle??

    • @sunroomstudios8487
      @sunroomstudios8487  Рік тому +2

      I’ve never gone through an automatic car wash with the 4Runner. I hand power wash. I’d be worried of the brushes catching on the ditch lights and ripping them off or bending them.

    Pretty sure they're Steel brackets, I just got some and they're steel, check by putting a magnet on it, magnet doesn't stick to aluminum

    • @sunroomstudios8487
      @sunroomstudios8487  3 місяці тому +1

      Oh my gosh, you're right! The Amazon description says aluminum alloy but sure enough, mine are crazy magnetic. At least the powder coating is holding up and no rust as of yet. Ugh.

      That's good to hear then! Great video though, I'm currently using it to fit some right now and wiring in a "zombie lights" switch 😂

    If you're worried about the electron/ion exchange between steel and aluminum, wouldn't an insulating barrier like electrical tape be more appropriate? Paper, of which painter's tape is made, is used as a component in capacitors. I don't think that the use of tape made from paper is going to achieve what you want.

    • @sunroomstudios8487
      @sunroomstudios8487  Рік тому

      Yep, you’re probably right. I found out there are specific tapes for that. Overall probably not necessary since the light bracket is powder coated and the hood bracket is painted, which offers protection in itself. Thanks for watching and commenting!
