I have owned a 2000 XKR Convertible for 6 years and a 1998 XJR Sedan for 3 years. Please note that these are 20+ year old cars. They have been extremely fun and quite reliable EXCEPT for the rubber (and sometimes plastic) coolant lines. And there are MANY of them. The most expensive are the "valley" rubber hoses in the "V" of the V-8. Those require the supercharger to be removed to access. The other favorite is the heater hose "octopus" at the firewall that's a bitch to access (hence having someone else perform that task for me), But don't let that deter you if your bank account is willing & able to take the hit. These cars are sexy and fun to drive. A great alternative to the Corvette/Town Car.
When I bought my 2000 XK8 kitty, the first thing I did was to replace the upper timing chains and tensioners... but I did not remove the main timing chain or take apart the front of the engine! I found a company that had split upper timing chains for this car with replacement metal tensioners, and they could be replaced without removing the main chain. I was told that the split chain is similar to the design used on some motorcycle / sport bikes. That was at about 46,000 miles I think when I did that replacement (didn't take very long and I did it myself), and have had zero problems with it so far, now at 108,000 miles (the kitty has been sitting for the past 3 years due to a rusted gas tank leaking gas, that rusted due to a failed water seal on the back window of the convertible top). But just got it running again with a replacement gas tank, and the engine still purrs like a happy, fast kitty cat! These are one of the most beautiful cars ever made. I hope to keep it for a very long time.
Only the early engines used the plastic bodied cam chain tensioners. They had 3 different versions but by 2002 they were using the metal bodied tensioners. We have a 2000 XKR & when vetting cars for purchase we made sure the tensioners had been up-dated or we factored the cost of up-grading into the purchase price.
My six-year-old daughter wanted to know what I was doing and I told her I'm watching the car wizard. She said ” Tell the wizard I said hi” as she ran off to her room lol
My mom had a 98 XK8 when I was growing up and we both absolutely loved it. Her summary of ownership was "It spent more time sitting on the side of the road broken down that driving but it looked damn good doing it."
The AJV8 is not Ford derived at all. It's a Jaguar designed and developed engine, and was already under development before Ford took over the company. Ford used a version of it in a couple of their cars, but it is not and never was actually a Ford engine. That aside, great video, like always. Love your work.
4.2L was also a NON Nikasil engine blocks.. they also had the updated metal chain tensioners. Convertibles eventually greet there owners with a green shower the hose would burst.. 96 model years never made it to America first year here was 97. Coupes are rare they made around 20,000. In the ten years manufactured. 73,000 convertibles where made. base model cars had the ZF trans the XKR's where Mercedes transmission... Everything electric is FORD.... Very reliable car when everything is sorted... that car is missing the alternator cooling tube...
I have just purchased a 2018 XJ as my retirement car ready to tour the UK and Europe. It is like driving a leather clad cloud, then when you slip it into sport it turns into a beast.
Beautiful car. I love the interaction between you and Hoovie too. This was a really fun video to watch. It made me smile, and we can all use a lot more of that these days.
I just want to start by saying that I always enjoy the Wizard's approach to the video's he posts, they are very informative and I've learned a lot since I have been watching them. However, in this particular video there is a statement that is inaccurate concerning the V8 engine in the XK being reviewed; Wizard states that it is a Ford engine. If you do any research on this you will find that the engine was designed by Jaguar and prior to the purchase of the company by Ford in '97. It is true that the engine was manufactured in a Ford factory in the UK (The Bidgend Plant which has recently been closed). Ford took the engine and applied it to the Thunderbird and Lincoln LS of the same vintage as the XK after some minor redesign. The V8 in the XK is to the design that has evolved from a 4.0 litre to a 5.0 which is still manufactured today and used in the F Type. To check what I'm saying here, I would encourage you to visit the Jaguar Heritage web-site. Keep doing what you do Wizard, it helps us all
I did guess the problem on the coolant leak, because my 2002 XK8 plastic hose (tube, really) broke about a year ago, spraying coolant out as I drove along. Not a good bit of design. Mine's 80,000 miles, but maybe plastic lasts longer here in the UK due to the damper, cooler weather? By the way Wizard, it's not a Ford-derived V8. You're thinking of the Duratec V6s. The Jag V8 is an all Jag design, which probably explains why it has stupid plastic coolant tubes. This aside, the XK8 is a superb car to drive. I've had two, and I love them. Better than its Aston Martin DB7 cousin by a long way. Greetings to my American cousins from England. I'll be off to polish my "bonnet", now...
Hey, if it means I can find engine parts at Ford prices I'm quite OK with that too. Unfortunately the Thunderbird and LS were neither very large volume cars, so part prices might still be kinda high. But hopefully not Jaguar dealer high.
Struts go bad do to poor design. Usually after only a couple thousand miles. The bushing is the problem. You will replace them at least every ten thousand miles no matter what.
5:33 - Yes, very stylish car. Almost better than the XJ models? Wait, this car (especially the coupe version) is THE best looking Jaguar since the E-Type.
There’s something very therapeutic with putting on a playlist of the Wizard and letting it play in the background. I really enjoy his mild manner demeanor.
I had an 2005 XK8 for 8 years, put 120,000 miles on it and loved it (traded up to a 2014 XK last year). Never had any major issues, just regular minor and medium ones. The airbag light was on in mine too and no one could ever get a read on it, so it stayed on for like 6 years. Strangest issue I had was internal corrosion in the battery cables which created starting issues but also wasn't readily apparent by looking at the cables. Great car though and this looks like a wonderful example of it.
I just put down a deposit on the 2005 XK8 4.2L V8 with 42,000miles on it. It was formally owned by the GM who just replaced the Transmission recently. Can wait to drive it. It's a convertible too. Majestic blue.
It's one of those cars that has only been driven a few weeks in the summer each year. The rest of the time it's been parked in a garage under a car cover. Smart owner who want's it all done at once, it'll save him some money.
Seems a little premature to replace timing chains and plastic guides. I'm just selling my 1996 XK8 convertable which I've had from new with 107,000 miles on the clock and have never touched them. In fact did all the servicing myself which was once every 10,000 miles changing oil, oil filter, air filter and break pads when necessary. Disc need replacing now. That is all I've ever spent on it apart from the odd light bulb and windscreen wipers etc. Just pulled it out of storage after 9 years parked up in open barn. Put new battery in it and it started after 20 seconds! That was with old stale fuel in it. Drove it out of barn and apart from a few small glitches is ready for new MOT test... Mice had eaten their way in from boot through to interior so that was annoying however apart from smell and two buckets of nesting debri got away with virtually no gamage. They eat foam from under seats and dragged in seeds and acorns, but never touched and chewed through a single wire including the very tiny ones. Maybe wiring loom is treated with mouse repellent but was amazed zero damage occured with so many hidden wires being exposed and right beside knawed seat foam etc......
The AJ V8 is a Jaguar engine. Ford used Jaguar's design, not the other way around. If you research it Jaguar was designing this motor years before Ford had any interest in purchasing them. They literally just took the technology once they bought them and went with that
I read where Ford took Jaguar's engines and gave them minor upgrades. Things like replacing paper gaskets with proper composite gaskets. The 90s XJ6 was actually a good car.
Proud owner(4 months) of a 2000 4.0litre coupe, with 46.5k miles. Had a coolant leak that was due to a cylinder head gasket. Had them sorted, timing chains, tensioners etc and thermostat housing replaced at the same time. Wow! What a car…..👍🏻 Excellent video as usual.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Wizard and Hoovie work off each other so well very entertaining..Wizard ,Hoovie is at your shop a lot does he live in one of his many many vehicles currently residing in your "HUGE" garage..lol..good video guys and Mrs Wizard great filming as always
Bought my 2000 XK8 coupe in 2013. Same color. After purchase kept going in limp mode. Needed a new computer. Dealer wanted 5k, so I looked online and got a rebuilt one got $300. Bought car with 55,000 miles. Transmission went at 95,000. Got one from the boneyard for $1800. I cost me another $700 to install. Overheated six months later. While parked in my condo lot someone backed into it and I got 90 percent what I paid for it back. Enjoyed the 50,000 I drove it over four years.
At least Jaguar kept the cheap plastic hid out of sight (timing chain tensioner) instead of the interior and headlight housings. No better upkeep wise than BMW, Merc or Audi but at least your luxury experience using this car is not compromised by interaction with substandard materials.
Depending on the build date, this might have the metal tensioners for 2002 they began changing them late in the build year. My 2002 XKR had metal tensioners in it. Also, other than the motor, the transmission is different between the supercharged and the non supercharged. Mainly the RS have the Mercedes 722 trans from the v12 benzes. Edit: I had the fuel gauge problem. It was the sending unit on mine. Have to drop the tank on the verts. That's a pain. The coupes have enough room in the trunk to access it. Funnily enough, these cars have a smell that is unique to them. I had two, a 97 xk8 and now the 02 xkr and they have that same smell. It's a elegant, leather smell. Very strange
yup, but that one has to be the worst colour i have ever seen..im in the UK, london and 300 yards from me is a small Jag specialist workshop, and ive seen a ton of them over the years,... IMHO British Racing Green and the black top takes some beating
@Dmetsys o I didn't realize so Jag fans are wrong it's not a Jag I knew it someone told me that they are real and not just a ford Mondeo and let on it was 80% jaguar and 30% ford
A work colleague had one in Summer 2000 when we worked in Italy. I was a passenger many Sunday evenings going to Cuneo to watch volleyball. I remember very comfortable seat/ ride, and acceleration was like a nice push in the back of the seat. And when it broke ( it was brand new ), the local dealer gave him a XJ6 saloon as a loaner. He bought it as a tax gain - if he bought/ owned the car outside of Ireland, owned it abroad for 12 months, and then owned it for 6 months+ when his job assignment finished and he brought it back to Ireland, he would save the 25% Irish car registration tax. Then sell the car with say, 2 years of ownership, and still make $25,000. Next assignment I worked in Portugal, where another Irish colleague did the same thing, this time with a XKR, and another with a new Porsche. But the Porsche guy, when he got back to Ireland, liked the car so much, he never sold it.
Finally a Jaguar (Jag You Are) on the channel, please seek out the 2007-2014 XKR 4.2 - 5.0 for an U + L SC pulley upgrade. PLEASE, can you Wizard, and WatchJRGo stop calling this a Ford engine, it isn't. Yes, it was manufactured the Ford Bridgend factory, but the NC machines used and staff used were Jaguar owned/employed, Yes Jaguar used the buildngs and site of Ford (as Ford owned Jaguar) but the engine is a standalone Jag engine, it is not a Ford engine.
Wrong. If you study the lincoln ls V8, There are very many similarities between it and jaguar. Maybe the Jaguar xj6 4.0 was stand alone, but by this era of xk, the engines were probably lincoln/ford developed for jaguar, which is why jaguar had so many problems. Some of those coolant hoses made no sense. And while the engine was kind of basic, there were alot of cheap, ford derived work arounds to turn the lincoln 3.9 V8, into a late 90s jaguar 4.0. From the late 90s jaguar 4.0, Jaguar(ford) could go on to make it 5.0 and beyond. Since ford owned Jaguar since the early 90s, we may never know the truth.
* "And beyond", denotes super charging naturally aspirated engines. Ford was ahead of it's time, but low on money. This leads to the dropping of mercury and jaguar lines much later. Blame jaguar for a strong lincoln, but a weak ford. They sold jaguar as soon as research was done.
@@ricky-sanchez I believe Ford used the early Jaguar AJ V8 in Lincoln, not the other way round. As you're aware Ford owned Lincoln and Jaguar and a number of other brands under PAG. I believe early 'Jaguar ' V6 was indeed Ford duratec V6 based but the early V8 were Jaguar designed and built albeit under Ford ownership and with their investment
@@ricky-sanchez It's the other way around. The engine was developed by Jaguar with Jaguar engineers. Ford used the same (or slightly modified) engine in other cars too but it is a Jaguar engine.
I love how these cars look. I'd like to own a coupe version at some point although unfortunately in the UK's climate they rust very badly. Just a note, the AJ-V8 engine is a Jaguar designed engine, it's not Ford derived. AJ stands for 'Advanced Jaguar'. Ford did of course use the AJ-V8 in some of their models, presumably hence the confusion.
I'm glad I caught this video, because I maintain and detail a 2003 Jaguar XK8 just like this car except that its the light silk green, which is just another elegant color. It has stayed in the garage all of its life with no wear or damage to be found with under 40k. The only times it gets driven is when I drive it to get serviced and to do a light detailing. Now I will take a closer look at things and will keep in mind the timing chain issues and if I should need to do it in the future. I also have two 1993 Cadillac Allante's as my own cars and these two cars really make some very enjoyable rides being fun and very fast!
That airbag light is most likely due to the electrical contacts under the seat needing cleaned. Worked for me and has been the solution for many others.
Could be and he did a vid on another car about airbag lights, took the seat out and sorted the contacts. Can’t remember what car it was, for someone reason think was a Porsche 944 but not sure.
I have the 4.2 V8 XKR, the fuel gauge does go to zero fast, but it's because I can't help it. It's fun to drive fast. The acceleration and the supercharger whine make me giggle with joy.
I love how the Wizard and Hoovie just get along so well. Though you can tell Hoovie distracts the Wizard a bit haha. To all the people who said he missed some things: That's probably why, plus, he always says they looked at it before the camera so anything they "missed" was caught off camera most likely. Being on Camera can make people miss things. Also, kudos to you Wizard, you look so much more comfortable on camera than when you started! You've become a natural, keep up the amazing work!
Hey interesting to see the coolant hose broken and just sitting there, exactly the same thing happened to my 2002 V6 S type Jag, just a drip of coolant coming out then, soon as I touched it the plastic fitting just fell apart.
The later AJ’s have upgraded and revised tensioners that aren’t as problematic. I have an 03 XJR with 150,000+ miles, that I’ve consistently abused. I can tell you that an ‘03 XJR will cover the 1/8th mile in just under nine seconds. I’ve occasionally bracket raced my XJR with many round wins. It’s quicker than stock Fox body GT V8s 👍
I was blown away to purchase my first car: 2002 XKR in Aspen Green Mica for 9,600 miles. This is my third year with it and oh jeez, this is what beauty grace and pace feels like. Turns heads and thumbs up in NYC
As a 50-year owner driver racer and restore of the Jaguar mark, I have one small correction for your introduction. Jaguar was a wholly-owned but separate subsidiary of the Ford Motor Company. At no time did Jaguar have any input from Ford with regard any engine design or for that matter chassis design. Ford however took patents and advise from Jaguar on noise vibration and harshness on many Ford models. The Mustang and the small T-Bird we're based on the Jaguar designed w e d platform.
Agree. XKR owner here. I see this said so often. As I understand it Jag were working on the V8 before Ford bought them. Ford looked at it and their own engines and decided to let Jag continue to develop the engine instead of sticking an existing Ford V8 engine in. Then Ford used it in some of their cars.
I didn't know that! All this time I was assuming the Ford era Jags were just re-badged Fords. Guess it was the other way around, from what you're saying.
What about the entry level Jaguars with the Duratec engines built on Contour/Mondeo chassis? What about the improved reliability after Ford bought Jaguar? Let's keep it fair, "better" than it was, not that it became the best, because Ford. Let's not pretend they did nothing to save the brand, from, well, itself.
To be fair, Jaguar was in fact forced to produce the X-type which was a refrocked Mondeo. However many brands have lifted the patents from other companies that they've Acquired and then sold on. How else could BMW having no four-wheel drive, have come up with a Range Rover clone. In this regard Ford was very cowardly in as much as in 1999, they were in acquisition mode. They bought into Mazda, Aston Martin, Volvo, and Jaguar. They also purchased Cosworth, and Pi engineering along with the Stewart Formula 1 team. In doing so, with a modest budget and individuals best suited for tractor design and maintenance, ran Jaguar racing oh, I might add into the ground and the arms of Red Bull.
I have some tips on that XK8 for you Mr. Wizard. I was wondering about that XK8 when I saw it in Hoovie's Ford Woodie/Rapide video. I have an 04' XKR Coupe in Silver with black interior. I'm sure you already know this, but for the secondary timing chain tensioners, make sure to install the metal body third generation tensioners. They require shorter bolts than stock. A common problem regarding the airbag lights is with the module under either the driver's or passenger seat. The module sometimes can hang too low and get pinched under the seat, specially in the lowest setting of the seat. Relocating the module to a higher point in the seat, making sure the wires are in good condition, and inspecting the solders should solve the problem. No new parts are needed. I noticed that the trim in the shifter that has the PRND432 has a broken piece. There is an ebay seller that sells an aluminum version of that trim. If the owner is interested, you can message the seller at his ebay page so that he can make a new one and list it for sale: www.ebay.com/usr/solar_signa If the owner wants to know what it looks like, you can message message me and I will send you a picture of mine.
Michael Krenzer could be. Cars of that age, got an 03 XKR, the plastics would fade at a different rate to the metal. Mines black and it shows. Needs a respray.
My dad had a 2001 xkr coupe back in the day, 23k miles on it and always at the dealer, went through 6 rear shocks (cats) 3 sets of front end bushes until some poly ones cured it, 2 window regulators, dash instruments used to go crazy when they were too hot and much more, but.. when it was sorted it was so lovely to drive and so fast. Beautiful relaxing place to cruise, iron fist in a velvet glove as they say!
Slight correction, the 4.0 v8 featured in the xj / xk/ s-type of that period was designed and produced by jaguar, this engine mechanically does not share any parts with perviously made Ford engines and Ford had no involvement with the design of this engine. There are a mix Ford and denso sensors (throttle position sensor, injectors and ignition coils are denso, the fuel pressure sensor and a couple of other sensors are generic Ford parts bin stuff. Ford did use a 3.9 v8 which was used in the Ford Thunderbird and Lincoln LS , this 3.9 v8 uses the same block as the 4.0. Ford / Lincoln models never got the 4.2 v8 released in 2003 and was exclusive to jaguar. The 4.2 / 4.0 / 3.9 do share some gaskets and sensors however the 4.2 is significantly different from the 4.0/3.9.
I doubt it's the toe that's an issue. New shock mounts are more likely the culprit on these. As the foam bush of the shock mount wears out with age, the ride height in the front drops and the camber becomes more pronounced, leading to increased front inner tire wear. It's a common issue on these. There's a company named Welsh Ent that makes a polyurethane version of the shock mount that is a little bit more durable.
@@gallardogd560 Yes, I have noticed the tire wear, plus the degradation in the ride. Both front and rear shocks mounts will be replaced, and the camber set to rights. But those can wait. I am addressing the items that can ruin the motor at this time.
Watched the Grand Tour episode where Clarkson, Hammond and May went to test Jaguars to prove they were reliable, and James May drove one like this. On the 0-100 run, the car proceeded to go in limp-home mode and never reached 100 and it flew off the edge of Telluride airport in Colorado. Jeremy had an XJR like yours Wizard, and it performed well.
I own a 2003 XK8 Convertible. I'll pick it up from the dealership tomorrow. $2760 for Convertible Tubing to hydraulic pump replacement and an alignment. Can't imagine what they'd charge for the timing chain to be replaced! Also, prior to that my driver's side headlight intercepted a rock and had to be replaced. $1500 to replace the headlight. I understand that the front bumper needs to be lowered to replace the headlights. Fortunately my auto insurance covered that expense. Owning a Jag isn't cheap!
I have read several books on the Jaguar XK8 and the 4.0 L V8 was the 4th engine ever designed by Jaguar. It is NOT a Ford engine. Ford may have used it in their Lincoln’s in the later 90’s, but it is a Jaguar engine. When Ford purchased Jaguar, the XK8 was in already in design. As the years went buy, since the XK8 was produced from 1996 -2006, Ford did add their own components such as AC compressor, supercharger, and electronics such as sensors. Bottom line: engine Jaguar and trans Mercedes and later ZF.
Amazing car. We had a 2000 V8 S-Type years ago. Similar problems with the engine plastics, but otherwise a great car with a turbine smooth engine. The 5-speed is a Ford unit and a great box. One flaw though, the solenoids are housed in aluminium and wear to the point of bad operation. The gearbox is then waste metal. I did however find out afterwards that there was a brass resleaving kit to remediate this. This makes me want to buy the 4.2L V8 and 6-speed ZF version of the XK.
My X5 has a ZF 6 speed and despite getting all new valvebody, solenoids, sleeves and filter not too long ago. It's begun slipping and now is in the shop for a permanent trans failsafe at only 100k. I've heard so many people having issues at unreasonable mileage with ZFs but perhaps it's more the cars theyre put in and the kinds of drivers that buy said cars used.

Its Jag-you-uh, JAG-YOU-UH!! Although your way of saying it isnt as bad as jag-wire, I throw up a little bit in my mouth when I hear people say it like that!
Well Jaguar, when they were at an event over in America, put how it should be pronounced on the top of the windscreen. They put "Jag You Are," so you can't really argue with what the manufacturer says.
Whaaaaaaaat? Is there an episode uploaded to UA-cam on that gorgeous green beast in the background? Looks to be a '66 Mustang Fastback, the best lookin body style of any automobile ever....
Get one with a 4.2 V8 (2003 - 2006). Those have upgraded metal body tensioners and a 6-speed ZF. The drivetrain in those is bulletproof. I own a 2004 XKR coupe and it has been very reliable.
@@dmsasko My experience, and the forums will back me up on this. 95% of those problems are the battery. The electrical systems in Jags is extremely sensitive to voltage drops. So, if you start your Jag one morning and see that you have a christmas tree lit up on the dash, with suspension fault, abs fault, transmission fault, or other random warnings, and, in the case of the XKs, the windows lowering and not rising back up upon closing the door, your battery is starting to die. Get a fresh new battery and the problem usually goes away. This is not like the days of Lucas when electrical problems were actually electrical problems... except for that 5% of the time it is.
I own a '00 XJ8L and a '99 xjr both in black. A low mileage 2003 XKR in dark green (hardtop) is my absolute dream. A good example is really the pinnacle of what a sports car should be.

Beautiful car. I love the interaction between you and Hoovie too. This was a really fun video to watch. It made me smile, and we can all use a lot more of that these days.
Agreed .
These early XKs are some of the best looking cars ever made, especially the coupe versions. Love the understated styling.
Agreed, def a timeless design.
XKR coupes ageing very well than the newer one
Looks like a big NB Miata :)
@@bindingcurve the Miata is meant to look European
XJ series 1 and 2, those are way better looking
The AJ V8 is not from Ford, Ford adopted it from Jaguar for use in the Lincoln LS8 and the Thunderbird.
in short ford does not make a flat-plane crank engine
not to mention even when ford did adopt the ajv8 they never used the 4.0L
As the owner of a 2004 XK8 with the 4.2, over here in the UK, I was a bit outraged when he said that as well.
Keep doing what you do Wizard, it helps us all
It's pretty obvious if you care to look up what AJ stands for :) Advanced Jaguar, first used on the AJ-6 in the mid-80's
AJ-V8 is a Jaguar engine, designed by Jaguar. Ford used a version in the Thunderbird and Lincoln LS.
The way it was put across, anyone would think it was the other way around.
@@bunning63 that's because he believes it's a Ford engine
Which both shared the platform with the Jag S type
Hey, if it means I can find engine parts at Ford prices I'm quite OK with that too. Unfortunately the Thunderbird and LS were neither very large volume cars, so part prices might still be kinda high. But hopefully not Jaguar dealer high.
Struts go bad do to poor design. Usually after only a couple thousand miles. The bushing is the problem. You will replace them at least every ten thousand miles no matter what.
I have a 2001 XK8 convertible with 67,000 miles. Loved this video.
Hoovie wants his Lambo Wizard. Not the first time he mentioned it!!! 😂😂😂
"Bonnet"- nailed it. "Trunk"- not so much!
He’s still learning.
"Luckily this one doesn't have this issue right now" that's the un-official Jag owner's mantra.
5:33 - Yes, very stylish car. Almost better than the XJ models?
Wait, this car (especially the coupe version) is THE best looking Jaguar since the E-Type.
7:23 I like how you used the license plate and handle instead of hands on the trunk to close it. Kudos Mr.Wizard!
There’s something very therapeutic with putting on a playlist of the Wizard and letting it play in the background. I really enjoy his mild manner demeanor.
Hoovie : "It's GREEN" .. he loves that word ha ha
And it’s a nice color too!
*right after wizard completed a ton of work on this car*
Owner: “Oooo, awfully sorry, I seem to have misplaced my wallet”
My thought exactly! hahahahaha.
because he's got a JAAAAAAGGGGG
Wizard: well... while you get you're wallet, _I'll go warm up the Jaaaaaaag_
Wizzard be like _"hippity hoppety, your Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag is now my property"_
wpm just don’t let the wizards daughter drive it or she’ll crash it into a light pole
Seriously, listening to the Wizard talk drops my blood pressure and heart rate by 25%...So calming.
He seems like a very calm person.
Well, I'm not the one paying the bill so that helps a lot too.
I think the only thing that was from Ford was the sump drain bolt.
No better upkeep wise than BMW, Merc or Audi but at least your luxury experience using this car is not compromised by interaction with substandard materials.
tyler looks like a homeless guy that just wondered into the shop lmao.
Lol
His cars look like it too
wandered - sorry
He has been wearing the same nasty blue shoes in every video for 8 years...
He reminds me of Kramer on Seinfeld.
I can hear the wizard saying this,
“Hoovie! Get back over to your flathead and get finish the job” lol
Those cars ARE beautiful!!
Ya and there real jag
yup, but that one has to be the worst colour i have ever seen..im in the UK, london and 300 yards from me is a small Jag specialist workshop, and ive seen a ton of them over the years,... IMHO British Racing Green and the black top takes some beating
Great looking car. Beautiful color combo, probably the nicest I've seen.
@@ricky-sanchez
I believe Ford used the early Jaguar AJ V8 in Lincoln, not the other way round.
Car Wizard featuring Hoovie as his sidekick! 😂😂😂
I love how these cars look. I'd like to own a coupe version at some point although unfortunately in the UK's climate they rust very badly.
Just a note, the AJ-V8 engine is a Jaguar designed engine, it's not Ford derived. AJ stands for 'Advanced Jaguar'. Ford did of course use the AJ-V8 in some of their models, presumably hence the confusion.
but ford helped advise the design which I see as a positive aside from some of the cheaper components which could use updating
Sad to hear the owner is not driving somewhat regularly. I mean, it's a CAR !
Loved the nod to Top Gear 🇬🇧
That airbag light is most likely due to the electrical contacts under the seat needing cleaned. Worked for me and has been the solution for many others.
Could be and he did a vid on another car about airbag lights, took the seat out and sorted the contacts. Can’t remember what car it was, for someone reason think was a Porsche 944 but not sure.
It's a jaaaaaaag, my dad bought one recently and I've had endless fun from that.

I've had several jaguars , the fuel gauge reads zero with alarming regularity.

I have the 4.2 V8 XKR, the fuel gauge does go to zero fast, but it's because I can't help it. It's fun to drive fast. The acceleration and the supercharger whine make me giggle with joy.
the xk8 is surprisingly economical was only using the same as my 2.4lt X type

I love how the Wizard and Hoovie just get along so well. Though you can tell Hoovie distracts the Wizard a bit haha. To all the people who said he missed some things: That's probably why, plus, he always says they looked at it before the camera so anything they "missed" was caught off camera most likely. Being on Camera can make people miss things.

Hey interesting to see the coolant hose broken and just sitting there, exactly the same thing happened to my 2002 V6 S type Jag, just a drip of coolant coming out then, soon as I touched it the plastic fitting just fell apart.

I had that exact car, exact color in high school new. Dad was an executive at ford, and they gave all family members a free lease. Loved that car
I was blown away to purchase my first car:
2002 XKR in Aspen Green Mica for 9,600 miles. This is my third year with it and oh jeez, this is what beauty grace and pace feels like.

Sir Raven, yes. Some Fords used the Jag developed V8. Not all Fords, they still had their own V8 for plenty of their cars.
If the owner is interested, you can message the seller at his ebay page so that he can make a new one and list it for sale: www.ebay.com/usr/solar_signa
If the owner wants to know what it looks like, you can message message me and I will send you a picture of mine.
I have seen that listing as well, but it is just for the surrounding trim. The broken plastic is part of the shifter unit, around $600-700.
Either the hood or the front bumper cover has been repainted because they do not match each other.
Or poor plastic prep on the bumper causing differential fading...not common anymore but still happens.
Hoovie looks like MR Bean sniffing car interiors !!!!
The 4.2 / 4.0 / 3.9 do share some gaskets and sensors however the 4.2 is significantly different from the 4.0/3.9.
how come you missed the front RH tyre wear . looks like its toeing out
Noticed that to
More you watch the less capable he seems
My Dad loved Jags, my Mum called them ....a hole in the road you pour money into! 😳
This video saved me from the political propaganda UA-cam is trying to force feed to me.
So nice when people really look after their cars no matter what make/model and class of car .
I miss glass headlights :(
Don't we all.
The modern looking E type Jaguar.
F type

Get one with a 4.2 V8 (2003 - 2006). Those have upgraded metal body tensioners and a 6-speed ZF. The drivetrain in those is bulletproof. I own a 2004 XKR coupe and it has been very reliable.
@@gallardogd560 besides all of the other little jaguar electrical problems that pop up over time. It's all a part of the fun with an old jag :p
I am also looking for a 2003 - 2006 XKR. I looked for one like this for some time.
I own a '00 XJ8L and a '99 xjr both in black. A low mileage 2003 XKR in dark green (hardtop) is my absolute dream. A good example is really the pinnacle of what a sports car should be.
