  • Brownells Gun Tech™ Keith Ford shows us his rare Uzi Pistol. No, not the Uzi submachine gun or the Uzi Micro machine pistol, but the semi-auto Uzi PISTOL. Set your wayback machine to the early 1980s, when Action Arms was importing into the U.S. the Uzi Carbine, a semi-auto, 16" barreled version of the renowned IMI Uzi submachine gun. AA wanted to get into the handgun market and asked IMI to build a pistol variant, which entailed far more engineering than just shrinking the subgun. Keith field-strips his pistol to show us what's under the hood and how it works. His gun is chambered in .45 ACP, but caliber conversion kits were available, and Keith shows us how easy it is to switch his Uzi pistol to 9mm Luger.
In 1986, IMI decided to adapt the Uzi pistol for full-auto operation, and after adding a stock and some other accoutrements, the result is the select-fire Uzi Micro. Remember: Micro = select fire, Pistol = semi-auto. About 4,000 Uzi pistols were produced from 1984 to 1993. Much larger than most standard pistols and decidedly ungainly, the Uzi pistol wasn't a huge success. It's still one heckuva cool looking gun! Chuck Norris boosted his already substantial Badass Factor by carrying a pair of them in the 1985 movie "Invasion USA" (hint: do an image search for the movie's poster).
Want to learn a lot more about the Uzi and other classic guns? Check out our friend Richard Hoffman's BWE Firearms channel.

I'm sorry to hear, Mr, Hoffman. I bought one of your SMG spec semi UZI receivers. Loving every minuet of it!!!!
I have been pushing people towards your sight for years since my purchase.
Ever think of making the side sling swivel a QD version?? All that is needed is a slight thinning of the sheet metal of that area. Then ANY QD sling mount will work.
I'm the guy that came up with the idea of the "UZI pistol stock" on UZI Talk, which you immediately took as your own and now sell.. No loss on me. I'm just some guy, not a company that can make these. Over the years I have been a Muse for a few companies. The hundreds of thousands in ideas I have lost... LOL

I met Israel Galil at the IMI in Tel Aviv 1980, toured the factory and saw the first Galil that elongated in the middle to shoot round corners, crazy, he had a Gold plated Uzi with gold plated bullets in a glass case in his office.

I love uzis, had a toy when i was a kid in the philippines in the 80s. I had the walther uzi rifle 22lr, which was fun, but wanted the pistol version 22lr like that. I didn't know you can covert the 45 to a 9mm with a conversion kit. I learned something new. Thank you.

Going to be honest, the only reason I bought one of these is due to caliber conversions. Many of my concerns have been addressed with the UZI Pro but I won’t bother with getting one because they don’t have caliber conversions. Problems: weight, stupid cocking sight on the top (real distraction) no grip protection for the front of the weapon.
Now the mini-Uzi was NICE!!! I loved the 19 inch barrel and magazines were interchangeable.
IWI screwed the pooch with the Pro and it’s proprietary magazine.

I never knew how easy the uzi was to disassemble and how few parts there were in the system. Id say its somewhat modular to.

    • @Mr79dream
      @Mr79dream 2 роки тому +1

You should see a full auto UZI.
All those additional parts, that you see for the fireing pin, are not existing.
Whe n you field strip one, you have the barrel, the barrel nut, the complete bolt, the SPring with guide, the receiver cover and the receiver with attached fcg.
Even the FCG is so simple, first of all, the full auto comes before the sem auto, in the trigger pull.
So technically, if you could hold your fingers, despite the recoil, in the correct sweet spot, you could fire full auto with the selector on semi.
It's basically backwards to the Steyr AUG FCG.
The reason is, for the open bolt, you bnasically only pull the sear down with the trigger and you hold it down.
If you switch it to semi, you can pull the trigger a little bit further back, wich then causes the trigger connector to slip off the sear, which then will snap back up to catch the bolt again in the rearwards possition.
Hach, open bolt full autos are so simple in design.

I have one, and the front line (Israel) holster for it, they are heavy and ungainly, with quite possibly the world's worst trigger, when that striker fires, as you heard in the video, it shakes the gun, despite its weight. Likewise, it's not really a arms length pistol, more like a point and shoot from the hip. They are really more of a collector piece than a shooter.

I wish I bought one of these. I did buy the IMI Uzi Carbine. The 1986 machinegun ban stopped be from getting it converted to full auto. I did manage to pick up a transferable HK MP5SD submachine gun in 1988, which I still have. I paid $4,000 for it. Did a make a good investment?
I also have a Cobray M11/9 submachine gun that fires 1200 Rds/min. On sustained full auto, after the first 2-3 rounds hit the target it turns into an anti-aircraft gun.

They made the original UZI bolt telescopic (and large/heavy), because it's straight blowback and 9mm is too powerful of a round to be straight blowback (without a heavy bolt)... but then they came out with the pistol that has a much, much smaller, lighter bolt (that's also straight blowback with no locking system)... so I'm just wondering why they needed to make the original UZI bolt so large and heavy. (Another example is the Hi-point pistols. I believe they are all straight blowback also, which is why they are so large and bulky... and the bolts aren't even solid steel if I'm not mistaken). Also, with the UZI being an "open bolt" design (originally), wouldn't the heave bolt slamming forward to fire make the gun harder to aim and control? Sorry for the rant. Would appreciate hearing other people's info and opinions.
