In Japan, the X does not represent a letter, it's a symbol and that's why they call it "cross". Furthermore, for them the cross means a "no" or "incorrect", while the circle means "yes" or "correct", and it's the reason why Sony consoles in Japan use the circle for confirmation instead of the cross
8:33 The worst thing about the Switch menu for me is that you don't get to organize your games in any order you want like on Wii, DSi, 3DS, and Wii U. Not only is that it's always your last 12 games you've played in order of how recent you've played them, it also throws the rest of the games into an "All Software" tab which can get really cluttery for people that play more than 12 games. #FirstWorldProblems
Admittedly speaking, I did forget about Welcome Park until a little while after I uploaded the video. Kinda wish I did brought it up tho, it was pretty neat 😅
It's understandable that Nintendo would want to distance themselves from the "Wii aesthetic" after the failure of the WiiU, but the Switch's menu is _so bland._ Hopefully they do something more interesting with the Switch 2, but from what we've seen so far it doesn't seem too likely.
I have very fond memories of the 2nd Xbox dashboard. Even if it was objectively worse than blades, there's something about it that I've always loved. Also, this is an amazing video for someone so small! I could've easily been convinced this was made by a UA-camr with hundreds of thousands of subs. Keep up the good work bro, you'll make it!
Looking at the current state of video games, after 5 years you can make a new video named "Lost art of video games!". Btw loved this video, subscribed❤
Even the PS4 at *least* had some beautiful choices of wallpaper, some of them change the artistic format of icons, or are actually ANIMATED and show off cool effects, some you cant get until you beat a friggin game all the way & recieve the unique wallpaper after the credits roll. The PS5? You get a single still image that changes every time you move across game applications. Otherwise the home menu may as well be an infinite black void with colorful slightly colorful icons to click.
actually the xmb originated from the PSX which was a japan exclusive media device that had a built in ps2. After the PSX they put the XMB into every other sony product with in need of a menu including tvs, the psp and the ps3
Japanese PlayStation 2 & GameCube are the two best & greatest consoles to ever exist with the best designed menus ever created.....also the PS3 XMB menu was omfg crazy insane tho along with Wii U and VITA...Japanese consoles & handhelds have the greatest innovations & creativity ever
those shapes are the best designs of buttons any console/controllers that ever came up with which is far more creative & unique than plain simple A,B,X,Y which every company are using. also those PlayStation shapes actually have meaning behind them & Sony is the only game company to use them on their controllers. Japanese Sony's ideas & creativity are truly amazing
2:19 You see right, Xbox menus are the best visually. I'm not too fussed that the menu on my Xbox Series S is not all singing and dancing. If anything it's functional and the old menus now look cheesy and childish.
So you would rather have your menu look like Netflix with advertisements everywhere and zero design than having a beautiful atmospheric menu with futuristic text fonts and nothing distracting? Modern menus look TRASH! They look so dumb, corporate and soulless! Clown opinion🤡🤡🤡
2:38 - If you don't have anything worthwhile to say about the Dreamcast's UI, why bother bringing it up at all? You lack the motivation to do so to begin with so this could've easily been cut out of the video altogether.😑
Simply because the Dreamcast still counted as a 6th gen gaming system, so I thought it would be best to briefly bring it up, even if I didn’t have much to say about it. Better to do that rather than to not bring it up at all and have people ask me why I didn’t talk about it. Nothing much more than that :P
People don’t give the Wii U’s system music enough credit
R.I.P. good game console menus 1999 - 2012
The 3Ds was the last excellent menu on a console, with music in all submenus and beautiful colorfull desing, then the swith happend...
The Wii U would like a word with you!!!
I agree, though the Wii U was not bad visual wise.

Wii menu is my favorite despite not owning the console.
u just dont get the vita menu, listen to the music and how magical the welcome park is👨🏽🏫

Gamecube one is just unmatched
Actually It is not only on games, everything on the internet has lost its personality, and everything looks too soulless...
The corporate takeover of the internet.
I hate seeing a warning sign every time I turn on a game console. No one has ever died playing a videogame.
But people have had epileptic seizures

Idk I think it's the best console menu ever made.
So underrated. I don't understand how this only had 98 views. This is quality content.

10:48 PREACH!!!
Wasn’t the PSP menu created before the PS3 one?

Ps3/psp is my fave
Japanese PlayStation 2 & GameCube are the two best & greatest consoles to ever exist with the best designed menus ever created.....also the PS3 XMB menu was omfg crazy insane tho along with Wii U and VITA...Japanese consoles & handhelds have the greatest innovations & creativity ever
Vita menu chopped af, the psp mode from hacks is a saver
i love this video good job awesome cool epic
I believe the X on the PS controllers is "cross" because the other face buttons are, ahem, literal fucking shapes instead of letters

Ps3 menu is peak, xbox 360 has cool pages but everything is scattered and cluttered
The ps5 is better than Xbox
