Excellent work on this video Actionkid! $2.75 was the old payment for our buses and the subways, and the Airtrain was $7.75! Now it's $2.90 and $7.90 for the Airtrain to the Subway!
Travelers unfamiliar with NYC probably wouldn't take this route, it's rough just finding the bus stop. The Metrocard transfer doesn't work between the Air Train and the NYC subway either. The 57th Street station at the end of your trip is a recent station which opened around 1967. It was a terminal for about thirty years until the 63rd street tunnel to Queens finally opened. So its recent renovation was odd considering how many older stations need upgrade.
For most travelers I won't recommend this route just due to all the hassles of having to get off the AirTrain (unless you're already at Terminal 5) and dealing with luggage. You'll spend about $8 more at the minimum but you'll save a lot of time.
@@AshmewStudios I know he rode the bus, but other people who take Airtrain to the subway, because they don't realize there are other routes, might not know there's no free transfer. What is the cost (and time) of Air-train to Howard Beach station, and the A-Train to Manhattan? 5:55 A-Train route -- the 1980s way of a JFK Airport Express Train.
Action Kid, can one take a taxi into the city from JFK or LaGuardia for a flat fee? Or is it only the other way around? This whole AirTram thing is confusing if I were to come to New York. Also, can one buy a MetroCard in advance a few weeks to a day _before_ coming to New York?
Great informative video! One question: How do you pay your ticket if you want to go outside NYC, but want to stay in the metropolitain area, let's say NYC-Mamaroneck...is the MetroCard still valid then?
You can use MetroCard on Bee-Line Westchester bus and NICE Nassau County bus. They'll even include a free transfer if you used a MetroCard to pay for a NYC bus or subway within 2 hours. You can also pay for an extra ticket for Metro-North or Long Island Railroad but it's more expensive.
Thanks so much for uploading this video. I would like to take the AirTrain to Lefferts Boulevard Station, then take the Q10 LTD to Kew Gardens, and then take the F Train. However, I don't have a Metro card. How could I get a Metro card before boarding the Q10 LTD? I would appreciate any advice.
Hello, your very informative but for the LIRR, the different fare rules is this: all fares were made off peak until further notice since ridership is super low. It’s nice that you can take the bus and subway for $2.75 but: do you really want to spend all that time sitting on a bus to a subway?
@@jungdonna You wouldn't walk to Howard Beach. I don't believe there is a way to get from the JFK parking lot to the A-Train without paying the Airtrain fare. Instead, what you do is walk 20 min to Aqueduct-Conduit. Action Kid has a video where he does this but it's a bit old, done in the dark, and only shows the walk, not the full experience.
They need to simplify the transportation system to the airport from Manhattan to Kennedy airport by having the A train going directly to the airport terminal or close to it with excellent bus shuttle going right to the terminals. What's the matter with this city??!!
I don’t think there’s an option to buy a 7 day unlimited MetroCard at the airport. However, all NYC buses and subways use the OMNY system now and you can pay with a contactless payment card or smart phone. If you spend $33 in fares for the preceding week, your rides for 7 days will be free starting on Monday.

You need to do a reverse trip from midtown possibly Grand Central to JFK
Great walking tour a beautiful city my friend, keeps in touch with friend forever, hope you get back in touch, thanks you, good luck friend
This method is used mainly by poor residents who can not afford the most expensive options
I would find it useful too if someone has time to spare, not just based on their financial situation.
@@ActionKid true, if you're not in a hurry; but I would not take this route if you are in a hurry
Man it's a good thing I have a photographic memory but I think my memory banks are overloaded
Do the cheap trip from Newark Airport :)
Yes, will be great to learn about Newark Airport connections.
Thanks AK, this is useful info and may come in handy. What would you say would be the fastest on public transportation regardless of cost, maybe the AirTrain to Jamaica then LIRR to Penn for Midtown?
FYI from Logan Boston, the free shuttle to Blue Line Airport Station inbound to Bowdoin gets you to the Orange Line via State St and the Green Line via Government Center. The Red Line is one stop past State St at Downtown Crossing. Fare is $2.60 in all cases.
You're right. AirTrain to Jamaica and LIRR to Penn Station is the fastest method of public transportation if cost isn't a consideration.
AK as always great great video and information Only thing is you have to “ schlep”your luggage on MTA thus taxi/Uber may have to be the way to go?!
So you really can travel form JFK to Manhattan for $2.75 compared to Uber $72.00 + tip until March 27th 2022 where the busses are concerned , looks like you'll have to show us the updated bus trip 😉 in future video Kenneth. The trip may have taken 1hr 40 min ,but for the price it wasn't to daunting thanks to you AK, this was very helpful, interesting and informative great journey 👍.
Thank you very much!
Thank you for another itinerant.
Some of the MTA airport buses do have luggage racks.
Yes, I've seen them on the M60 and Q70 buses.
@@ActionKid yep, same 2 I’ve seen them on!
Thanks for video. I’ve been watching the gilded age series and I’m wondering what ppl from the 1880s would think of this “space age” transport. Not that they would be even considering anything like that. Probably more concerned about their horse and buggy. ;).
What is the cost (and time) of Air-train to Howard Beach station, and the A-Train to Manhattan? 5:55 A-Train route -- the 1980s way of a JFK Airport Express Train.
Sometimes the airtrain can get pricey
For sure!
Yes that's the way to do it! It's also safer than going through Jamaica. People there are preying on travelers.
Can you take the train from Laguadia to midtown?
No trains go directly to LGA - there is a Q70 bus which takes you to LIRR or 7 train to midtown. It is a relatively decent ride overall.
More bus rides please
1:01:23 lift your heads to see the subway
Great informative video! One question: How do you pay your ticket if you want to go outside NYC, but want to stay in the metropolitain area, let's say NYC-Mamaroneck...is the MetroCard still valid then?
You can use MetroCard on Bee-Line Westchester bus and NICE Nassau County bus. They'll even include a free transfer if you used a MetroCard to pay for a NYC bus or subway within 2 hours. You can also pay for an extra ticket for Metro-North or Long Island Railroad but it's more expensive.
@@ActionKid Oh, thank you!!! ;-)
It may be the cheapest but I not gonna do it. I prefer to take the air train to Jamaica then the train to Penn.
Would you personally rather do this or take the AirTrain to Lefferts and walk to the A-train, bypassing the AirTrain fare?
@@jungdonna You wouldn't walk to Howard Beach. I don't believe there is a way to get from the JFK parking lot to the A-Train without paying the Airtrain fare. Instead, what you do is walk 20 min to Aqueduct-Conduit.
Action Kid has a video where he does this but it's a bit old, done in the dark, and only shows the walk, not the full experience.
This is a much better option than walking from the AirTrain Lefferts Boulevard Station to the A Train at Aqueduct - North Conduit Avenue
Hello @actionkid is the airtrain open 24/7?
It’s cheap but there is a trade off, lots of hassle, if one doesn’t want that or has a lot of luggage, cab would do fine.
They need to simplify the transportation system to the airport from Manhattan to Kennedy airport by having the A train going directly to the airport terminal or close to it with excellent bus shuttle going right to the terminals. What's the matter with this city??!!
Does this JFK to Manhattan itinerary still exist? The Q10 bus can still be taken from Terminal 5 ?. Thank you so much.
thanks for the tip! is it possible to take unlimited 7 days metro card in JFK airport and then use the bus + metro to Manhattan?
I don’t think there’s an option to buy a 7 day unlimited MetroCard at the airport. However, all NYC buses and subways use the OMNY system now and you can pay with a contactless payment card or smart phone. If you spend $33 in fares for the preceding week, your rides for 7 days will be free starting on Monday.
They should be required to have all busses at federal circle so it’s free and have vending machines there too.
