I did exactly this 5 years ago on my visit from the UK, and was super pleased you did this video as I was able to show my children what I did when i visited nyc. Then I found my original train ticket in my wallet along with my 1 week subway pass.

I love riding the air trains in the airport because you can get a good view of everything and I love riding the New Jersey Transit because it's a good distance from the city and relaxing
This brings back some memories. I came to Newark the only time I've visited New York and used this to get to Manhattan, thought it was a good way to get there without paying too much.
Glad you had a great experience! I heard the AirTrain was built in 1996 and was only expected to last 25 years. It needs to be replaced or renewed since delays will happen more frequently now.
@@ActionKid Wow, I’m going to date myself saying this but I worked for the Port Authority Aviation dept. & that monorail at Newark was the next big thing. All NYArea airports were desperate for a Train to the Plane option. I left to have my son in 96. Live in PA now so I don’t use EWR.
You're lucky! There's all sorts of delays that can happen - ranging from highway traffic to service changes on the AirTrain and train delays. I think the AirTrain delays will happen more frequently now since it has reached its End of Life.
Air travel has felt like riding the bus for a long while now with delays of all types; weather, mechanical, (air) traffic volumes, baggage issues, etc., extreme heat can also affect the rails, pack your patience along with your carry on luggage. It's good to experience that confusion that can result from state of the art public address systems and unknown territory!
That's right. It can be quite frustrating to people to deal with the delays of public transportation, especially after experiencing all the hassles that come with air travel.
Thank You for doing this AK! It's been awhile since I've been to NY and I used to take the bus from Newark to Port Authority. The Airtrain in Atlanta is much older, but it runs like clockwork!

Better to take the cheap 62 bus to Newark Penn station, then take the PATH. Total fare is about $6 for both, and can get to either Lower Manhattan or Midtown (33rd Herald Square ).
Thank you AK for showing this, I’m going to be at the Newark airport in the summer and after watching the live stream I will be taking The Newark air Express or an Uber to Midtown😉
When I came back home to NY in Sept., my daughter and I took this way into Manhattan. We purchased our ticket in advance to return to Newark five days later but the train stalled in Penn Station and we were in danger of missing our flight. We had to partner with another woman to share an Uber which was so expensive and we lost the money for the ticket we'd bought in advance the day before. Plus, we were angrily confronted by the individual who eventually pushed Michelle Go onto the tracks while we waited for the Uber in front of Penn. Next time, it'll be the express bus for us.
I'm sorry you had such a horrible experience! I hope it's better next time. Keep in mind that Uber & Express Bus is subject to traffic, and you'll need to allocate extra time to get to the airport too.
@@ActionKid It wasn't too bad but I'd also been away from NY for so long that I needed time to become familiar with everything again. Thanks to you, AK, I know the next time will be so much better.
When I fly into NYC I use a car service. I like it better than Uber because you give them your flight number and they come when the plane disembarks. It also costs about the same as Uber and its low stress. I'm stressed from your trip today and I'm just watching the recording.

Yes, it can be quite frustrating! The lowest cost option is to have a buddy pick you up for free! Other than that, it's taking the NJ Transit 62 bus for $1.60 to Newark Penn Station, then transferring to the PATH train for $2.75. It comes out to a total of $4.35. Getting on the 62 bus can be quite cramped though and I would imagine not much more room for luggage.
@@ActionKid All forms of transportation have mishaps. You can't use your first experience to doom the air train. I worked at Newark Airport for over 10 years and I never looked at it as a failure. It is what it is. I'm bias bcuz I'm from Jersey. 😁
@@ActionKid Its such a bad system, no one would ever build such a small train for an international airport at this day in age. They are replacing the system completely soon.
Thanks AK for sharing this experience with us . Nothing runs smoothly all the time ,but yes they do need to up grade the monorail it's laughable. A little patience and good planning still got you to your destination . 😉 🧡👍
The train system is the better choice, I think you happen to go on bad day, and that's with all public transportation. I wouldn't choke your first experience to not recommend this to other people. I've only used that system once, when the buses couldn't come to the airport due to a snow blizzard one year, and I had no issues.
It's hard to weigh all the options. The bus is subject to traffic as well, and the AirTrain has reached its End of Life. Hopefully they can refresh the AirTrain to make it more reliable.

Wow. What a clusterfuck. Last time I was at EWR, the Air Train wasn't even operating to Liberty. Had to take a freaking bus from the airport to the Newark Penn Station, then take train to NY Penn Station. This was in 2014.
Glad that worked out eventually. NJ Transit trains are usually on time. The unknown was that airport air train! The bus could be unpredictable sometimes too with the traffic into the Lincoln Tunnel. I would probably do a google map traffic look beforehand and if traffic not bad I would take the bus otherwise the train is usually more predictable. I bet you must be a software developer or application Q/A tester, AK because you like to find & discover the flowchart for traffic in/out of a destination!
From what I read, the AirTrain is frequently subject to delays since its reached its End of Life. It seriously needs an overhaul! There's pros and cons to each method, and I would probably choose the Newark Airport Express bus direct to Manhattan if the traffic is light. Plus, there's no need to carry your luggage on multiple elevators/stairs and on two different rail systems by taking the Express Bus.
There was talk about replacing the AirTrain at Newark. The rolling stock is well past the "use by" date. I'm guessing replacing it has been shelved for the time being. I'm sure the costs are going to be astronomical.
The whole time I was watching you navigate the confusion, I was thinking- 'Nope. I'd get so lost.' 😆 Also, how creepy was THIS place?! 55:40 Yikes. I sure hope you kept your head on a swivel while you were standing there. LOL
The stations themselves are so huge, so confusing and I believe I would need a guide to get me to the correct train. Thank you AK for reminding me that this travel is not for me.
I go to New York often and Newark is my go to airport. Not as busy as JFK or LaGuardia. Easy access to the NJ transit. I always stay in midtown so Penn Station is 3 blocks from my hotel.
Thats the train i use when I was in NYC in September, its very convenient and much cheaper, it was 15 dollars one way at the time. Also the whole trip from Newark Airport Airtrain to NY Penn station only took me almost 50 minutes:)
Actually the best way is the Newark Airport Express outside. The bus takes you from each terminal to Port Authority bus terminal in Manhattan then to Grand Central station like you said for 18.00 dollars.
1:03:29 Computer Train Announcer (Dave - Text to Speech): Attention Newark Airport Passengers! Now arriving on Track A, is the New Jersey Transit 1:21 PM inbound train to Penn Station New York, making stops at Newark Penn, Secaucus, and New York. I liked the train option. I think you were too quick to judge. You kept saying $19.50 for the cost to go back the same way you came, that's the one-way fare. If I remember correctly, you could have bought the round-trip at $30 +$2.50, making your trips $16.25 each way, making the difference about $1. It really depends on where you prefer your terminus.
Yes, it is certainly complicated getting from the airport into the city. I think I’ll take your advice to use the more expensive $19 option next time I fly in there. Thanks for your insight.
You're welcome! Also keep in mind that the bus can get caught up in traffic as well. Probably best to check traffic conditions before taking the bus, it's possible this method in the video can be faster despite the delays with the AirTrain.
It's really not complicated, watch again the video, and you'll realize that it took extra time just because he didn't get out and wait for the proper Air Train transfer at P4, so he went backwards to terminal C again. Can happen to first timers that didn't watch this video though, but if you watched the whole video, then it's very straight forward and a good option to get to Manhattan imho
So can you get on any of the trains that say new york, i noticed when action kid looks at the board it says new york SEC and some just say new york, both end up in penn station NY?
Wow -- that was painful! There are plans to build a new AirTrain and demolish the current one because it has so many problems. “The existing AirTrain Newark has outlived its useful life and is desperately in need of replacement,” said Port Authority chairman Kevin O’Toole in May 2021. It will run to the new terminal that they're also building.
Nah mate, after watching the whole video and seen all the intricacies involved, it's as good of an option and equivalent to JFK's 'Air Train+Long Island Rail Road' combo to Penn Station, and probably worth saving $5 compared to Newark Airport Express: -Air Train ride + transfer to rail-road to reach NYC Penn Station in about 1 hour (if you discount the 15 min you spent back and forth at the airport plus up to 15 min of waiting time at the rail station, which can be much shorter depending on when you arrive) The main pitfall was really the back-and-forth between Air Train's Terminal C and P4 station for those that don't get at first time that they need to make an Air Train transfer at P4.
Considering how busy the terminal & airtrain were this platform is creepily deserted. Despite all the confusion I think you were unlucky on the day & it's still better than the bus which would be caught up in traffic & not so "express"
These are great videos. I'm in NYC all the time and I still learn so much from you. I never knew that there was a Penn Station in Newark. Baltimore has one too. It can get confusing.
Newark Penn Station: Grey day. Spooky, squeeky sign. Empty station. Seemingly every train speeds past without stopping. Nothing feels sketchy or odd about this at all. Nuh uh. Nope.
I saw the 62 bus in person at the bus stop. The aisle is narrow, people are cramming into the bus, and I would imagine there's not much more room for luggage. It also takes a slow route through the streets of Downtown Newark, adding even more time to get to Newark Penn Station.
@@ActionKid The 62 bus is just a regular city bus, not designed for luggage, only to pick up and get off. The downfall of that bus and the GO 28 bus , at certain times of the day, it can get hectic, but it only takes fifteen minutes to get downtown Newark and they both run consistently. I forgot, there is also the #67, looks like a tour bus, that leaves from Newark Penn Station to Tom's River (central Jersey) and stop at all the terminals, but doesn't run consistent as the other two. I used to take that bus when I worked for TSA, very few passengers use it, at least going to the airport avoid the crowd. 😁
SEC just means you stop at Secaucus you dont hav3e to transfer. I think I will make a video showing that this can be done in 1/2 hour not an hour and a half.

Can happen to first timers that didn't watch this video though, but if you watched the whole video, then it's very straight forward and a good option to get to Manhattan imho
15:10 "well the announcements are clear." and then %!@$% lol
So can you get on any of the trains that say new york, i noticed when action kid looks at the board it says new york SEC and some just say new york, both end up in penn station NY?
Wow -- that was painful! There are plans to build a new AirTrain and demolish the current one because it has so many problems. “The existing AirTrain Newark has outlived its useful life and is desperately in need of replacement,” said Port Authority chairman Kevin O’Toole in May 2021. It will run to the new terminal that they're also building.
Great Video! & Thanks!
I Love Newark Airport ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Nah mate, after watching the whole video and seen all the intricacies involved, it's as good of an option and equivalent to JFK's 'Air Train+Long Island Rail Road' combo to Penn Station, and probably worth saving $5 compared to Newark Airport Express:
-Air Train ride + transfer to rail-road to reach NYC Penn Station in about 1 hour (if you discount the 15 min you spent back and forth at the airport plus up to 15 min of waiting time at the rail station, which can be much shorter depending on when you arrive)
The main pitfall was really the back-and-forth between Air Train's Terminal C and P4 station for those that don't get at first time that they need to make an Air Train transfer at P4.
Crikey, that station is bleak all you need is some tumbleweed to finish off the seen.
Thanks!
Much appreciated!

Nice 👌 clean 🚄
Considering how busy the terminal & airtrain were this platform is creepily deserted. Despite all the confusion I think you were unlucky on the day & it's still better than the bus which would be caught up in traffic & not so "express"
Now that. Is Amazing ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hey AK
It’s good to see you again
It’s been a minute
I saw a slick version of this same trip with music and all. I like yours better.
These are great videos. I'm in NYC all the time and I still learn so much from you. I never knew that there was a Penn Station in Newark. Baltimore has one too. It can get confusing.
Yes, it's very confusing to have multiple Penn Stations!
Action Kid👍
Newark Penn Station: Grey day. Spooky, squeeky sign. Empty station. Seemingly every train speeds past without stopping. Nothing feels sketchy or odd about this at all. Nuh uh. Nope.
I see you use a DJI Pocket 2. Also I see the JFK airtrain are a lot nicer than the EWR air train.
Anyone know, how long is the entire trip from Newark Airport to Penn Station? It says 30 minutes when I search.
10:23 - This monorail has been operating since 1996.
Sometimes taking the the 62 bus to and from the airport, especially during "rush hour", can be unpleasant at times bcuz of cramped passengers.
43:52 AC in the depths of winter? Huh?
I take the Air Train but I go to JFK to Jamaica NY train station. JFK Air Train don’t have delays.
There was no AirTrain delay here, he just failed to make the AirTrain transfer at P4 and went back to terminal C
The air train doesn’t have major delays
❤❤❤
Charlie Browns Teacher says....

I thought I was watching actionkid’s version of the movie terminal lol this is unscripted reality that may happen to tourists
SEC just means you stop at Secaucus you dont hav3e to transfer. I think I will make a video showing that this can be done in 1/2 hour not an hour and a half.
