Yes but the reason is that if he first tell it to the people they wouldn’t play they will instantly vote for returning home. Honestly, when I was watching this, I suspected the old man a lot because there's always this reminder inside my head that tells me that people who look so innocent are the ones who hide a lot of secrets. But even tho this old man was sus, I did not have the heart to think that he would be behind everything and right after his 'death' when he was playing the game, my suspicion lessen, I still did not believe he was dead right after that though, perhaps it was the unwillingness to let go in my heart that made me believe that he was still not dead after the game. Also, I've watched too many stuff that I already know he was someone special and that thought only grew when they asked for his name and he could not remember. Also, when the marble game ended, when player 456 walked away and the old man was 'shot', I was convinced that the director really is smart because player 456 is the very last player and the old man was 001, the first player and I think that was genius.
The old man or Oh Il-nam is actually one of my favourite characters even though he planned the whole game, He was really funny to me! And he just felt like an old man who wanted to have fun playing games with other people! And I mean, he actually made it fair for them and the second time when they came back it was their own choice! No one forced them! :)
👁👄👁 so what about the first round. Did they have a choice to come back? (The people who got shot obviously) they didn't even know that was going to happen 😂
the old man didn’t help in tug of war to save his own life. he was never attached to the rope so if his team failed he could let go before he fell and died
He didn't betrayed anyone, He gaved his last marble to Gi-hun when Gi-hun begged for it and he played having dementia but when he said he "did" have it Gi-hun used it, which is shit but at the end of the day people are gonna die soon, It was just sad when Ali Was betrayed by Sang-woo
Actually, there are videos showing that the old man wasn't attached to the rope during tug of war, so he really was just helping everyone. Also, yeah, I can see reasons as to why you should or shouldn't be mad at him, and I think either opinion is extremely valid and isn't necessarily wrong, however, it's still a fact that he is a wealthy elite that pushed 400+ people into dying for his own self satisfaction.

You can’t say he was totally fair when the first round of people didn’t get the choice to continue the game lmao they just thought it’d be simple competitions and were shot dead
I feel like the entire idea of squid game isn’t that cruel. The people participating in it already essentially lost their lives. They’re in hundreds, even millions of dollars in debt. I think the whole idea of killing people in squid game is no different than not participating at all. We even see that after they opt to end the game, many just go back because they realize that their lives are all the same either way. The old man’s idea of squid game is giving those who essentially don’t have a life a chance to turn their lives around.
You do realize these people go missing and their families never know why. Being in dept is not even close to being dead. It may feel like it but even in the end pretty much everyone pleaded for their life or was sad to go. Also that is so much trauma to dump on one person. Imagine the Ptsd, and decades of therapy you would need. In no way is squid game "not that bad" Especially if they didn't warn everyone what being "eliminated" actually means.
Hell nah , that old man is just another rich fuck getting off on the idea of putting poor people who desperately need money in a fucked up game. It's like if Jeff bazos decided to do the hunger games , would that make him a good person just cuz "he's giving poor people the chance to be rich by killing each other bc their lives suck anyways" . . . Like yeah the people are stupid af for participating but they must be desperate to go through something like this , sad that they're even put in a position like that in the first place..
@@pileofsaltOG like I said before the people participating are in hundreds of thousands of debt. They can’t or won’t be able to afford to feed their families. If one day they were to go missing, their families would still probably guess they had died. It’s essentially a long lottery between hundreds of people who are essentially dead in order to gain a second chance at life.
Wait people were mad at him? I wasn’t I was hella impressed with what he did Ngl and how he seemed like a background character but has the little spark that seems like he’s gonna be someone important
It was not fair at all, first off, he picked those players who really are desperate, like Gi Hun(who's daughter is Abt to leave, and a mom who is Abt to die) and Sang Woo (Who is suicidal), he clearly handpicked those players (he did background check on each of em). When the voting after the first game happened, if was clear that he would pick to leave to make the players realize that their life out there is more cruel than their life inside, people who picked the red came back to the game. You can call it fair but twas not (for me), the mechanics of the game was not clear ever since the beginning, it was told as if a lot of people would win when in reality, only one would. If they told the players that only one would win tho cash, do you think a lot of people would still play? They were told abt "games" but they added that part where players must kill each other to make the price go up, first off, the whole fight was not fair, the players are classed differently, there are gangsters, business man (who went bankrupt or smthng), just desperate ole people, etc. The "games" (honeycomb, bridge) were fair for the fact that those games were the games they played as a child, they were familiar with it. He did help in the tug of war but it was for himself, he didn't even have a lock at his chains, so that if his team loses he wouldn't die with them.

What about the 200 people that died in the first game? Doesn’t really seem like a fair challenge to me. Of course, they could’ve won pretty easily, but they were not told that they can die.
Don’t know how to feel about him, I loved him through the whole series but now that I know that he made these games…. I’m not sure. He could’ve experienced that “special feeling” without having to kill thousands of humans and potentially destroying their families as well.
hm.
Forget about the first game. He's been killing hundreds for several years.
Yes but the reason is that if he first tell it to the people they wouldn’t play they will instantly vote for returning home. He can’t said it before the game in the dorm as well because it will cause players to riot. He could have said it at the playground though since he don’t allow people to exit at that point. But he must kept his mouth shut until the game is about to start. By not revealing the dark side of the game, people normalized when they see people dying in front of them eventually players returned to the game even though they voted for quitting the game.

Even though he is evil, he's still my favourite character from squid game.

In no way is squid game "not that bad"
Especially if they didn't warn everyone what being "eliminated" actually means.
