I love the Theory Wear merch so much, especially compared to other UA-camr merch because, even when I don’t like a piece enough to go and buy it, I can still see that a lot of care goes into creating it. I see a lot of other UA-camrs making merch that’s just a solid color T-shirt or hoodie with a small logo no bigger than a chest pocket on it. And it’s so disappointing compared to Theorist Merch with awesome designs, hoodies with thumb holes and the plastic aglets on the draw string, and features created because of community input. Nothing against those other UA-camrs, the Theorist Team just sets the bar WAY too high. Keep up the great work!

I mean, why wait a whole year for your favorite show when you can make more of them
Well North Korea is just one of many examples. China had been explicitly commiting humanity crimes since forever. Numerous African/South American countries can all be "candidates" to host such games.

Well, in the series they said something like "I like the Korean games most", which implicates that there are multiple games being held somewhere else.
Hence there should be at least a second place where they are making these games...
@nicreeper Any authoritarian regime can overlook them and there are a lot of countries who fall unto that category like cuba, venezuela, china, russia, iran, syria, saudi arabia, cameroon, egypt, congo
@@ItachiSharinganDN if squid game happened in a country like South Korea then I wouldn't be surprised when it happen in japan or even USA, just on some isolated island in the middle of the ocean
@@Triskelion345 well that could be possible in Japan or the USA but they would still run the risk of getting caught because even if they have a higher up government official or politician involved if someone else gets a whiff of it and investigates it they would get into some serious trouble so I think if it were to happen it would be in a country that would overlook it like north Korea or China, Russia, Cuba and places like that where they could just pay someone off and not have to worry about getting caught
I heard that each Squid Game has a different theme with different challenges. The Squid Game we saw in season 1 used children's games because the director of the games wanted to play the games that he enjoyed in his childhood one last time. If we get a second season, there will most likely be completely different challenges.
Well, chose another dictatorship country. Russia, Iran, any small country in south america etc

The contracts weren’t about legality, it was about the game runners establishing dominance and the players willingly relinquishing agency.
It was about giving the illusion of legality
@@exammole4545 I mean they are literally signing over their rights there’s nothing stopping them from leaving at that point

Notice how "the Korean games are the best one" (something like that, please correct me if wrong) doesn't specify which Korea?
We assume South Korea since the outside world we see is South Korea and we generally just reference South Korea as Korea.

-Making the games in space where it is extremely difficult to track someone down let alone arrest them.
-Make the games so far underground that no-one but a multi-trillionaire has access to
Honestly, I have no idea if any of this is able to work but if a video could be made about it, that would be great. I could not find any evidence showing that any of the above is legal but also no evidence showing that is illegal. I just really want to know.
keep in mind that Gihun DID try and alert the authorities when he first came back after the players voted to stop the games and the authorities thought he was crazy. there's also the scene with the other VIPs saying "the ones in Korean are the best," implying that these games happen around the world (especially since the other VIPs are also from other countries).
I had a sneaking suspicion that the cops were in on it too..
BUT THAT'S JUST A THEORY-

"Every piece of Earth is owned by some country"
Me: Then do it on Mars or Moon.
To be honest I think of this like that "haunted house" that people go to to basically be tortured for money.they sign a contract (40 pages I think) saying that if you die someone else in the family CANNOT sue them Love Life death. You signed a contract knowing that you will die but you did it anyways
To put the contract thing simply, contracts don't make things legal. They make them illegal. So with the hot wings example, rather than making the serving of hot wings legal (they always were legal), it's making the suing of the restaurant for damages illegal. And it can only protect the parties involved. So you can't sign saying "I won't sue the restaurant for giving me poison" because that isn't a matter of a lawsuit, it's a matter of the police enforcing a strict LAW. You could ask the police to sign saying "I won't arrest the restaurant owners for poisoning their customer", but they obviously won't sign that.
In short, contract can only work as long as it is legal. But when law breaking activity is involved (ie murder will be involved), the contract will be void and the case will be supersede by criminal investigation.
When but your whole point goes out the window when it's on a private island rhat isn't owned by government, this is what this man said, I don't know if there's an actual law for this but if I owned a island and committed a crime on said island what police force has the jurisdiction to arrest me ? Would It be the nation I come from or something ?
@@D-A-A- no it doesn't.
Even if the island is somehow on international waters there are still international laws preventing you from doing things like this.
The most likely answer is that we have a case of "technically illegal but practically untouchable" meaning the VIPs have bribed enough south and North corean politicians to protect them and turn a blind eye to this island
Matt: you can’t consent to getting killed for money, it’s illegal
Me: you ever heard of the army?
The army follows their own rules😂
actually that doesn't count because army are made to keep people safe and they made contract about them knowing they'll die saving people
I uhh hmmm
@@7xyn that logic can also be applied for people in squid game, it's for saving their life, possibly family out of debt.
When you join the army you are no longer a civilian. Military have a different set of rights and obligations.
Not to mention that war is not a game.
I love how the law book kept getting thicker
The signing "Jane Dough" could be a reference to one of my favourite books, A Bakeshop Mystery: A death of Passion Fruit. The person who gets killed in the book (Annie) was given the alias 'Jane Doe' because they had no idea who she was at first- and the protagonist's best friend, who is like- my favourite character of ALL TIME, came up with the alias 'Jane Dough'. This has nothing to do with squid game, but I just found it really nice.

I remember when I was in computer science in A Level, my teacher played a really mean trick. He made a website for us that he pretended was a study site. He then made the terms and conditions that we agree that he should give us all a 0 on our next assignment and that we all owe him a tenner. None of us questioned anything, didn’t read the terms and conditions, and he then had our passwords and also a contract wherein which we technically actually owed him £10 and a fail. Obviously he didn’t act on it, but it was just showing how dangerous it could be to not read these things sometimes for sites that may be unfamiliar to you.

quick question about the main character: he DID try to contact the authorities about the games, but the organisers managed to cover their tracks. he then helped a cop go undercover in that facility so he could get evidence of the games and come back to arrest everyone. granted the frontmaster has successfully covered his every track, but how would at least trying to get the authorities involved affect his sentence, should he go to court?

One question generally, when he outlines universal jurisdiction and crimes, he says that a 'death game' such as squid game would not fly. Is this true? As in, would a game occurring on a newly created artificial island, claiming to be its own state, be committing an international crime in this case? It's not really genocide, slavery, piracy etc. It could be torture...but these people willingly engage. I just thought that part of the video to be making assumptions potentially, but I'm not sure.
@@johnsimmons105 I mean, I may not be into law, but the game would *technically* fall under the category of manslaughter, wouldn't it? That's what Mat said rather early on into the video
What I’m impressed about is how badly my ankle hurts.
I remember watching the show with my mum, and after the last episode our brains were just trying to understand what we just witnessed. After some time, my mum looked me that in the eye and said: “Who says that something like this doesn’t exist somewhere?” And it literally throw me off. In addition to this, this video just strengthens the theory. I don’t want to imagine people risking their lives for money somewhere and the people organising everything getting away with it…
I’m thrown off my feet, because my ankle hurts.
100th like
and what's the chances of the real life version not being more brutal than this one? Maybe the participants don't even get anything and they just have to play the game just to survive?
I felt a gut punch reading this comment, because I just relised that I would not be surprised if this where to actually happen in real life 🥶

I'd thought case of ancient Rome's gladiatorial system would be at least quoted.
However it's a very clever video, especially the terminal ending reminding us of the gruesome reality of our world...
Film theory idea: is the stairwell scene from “The Bourne Identity” where Jason falls down the stairs on top of a dead body and survives technically possible?
You should put that in the discord or reddit.
I'd like to see that. lol
@@australiankappa8123 I’ll consider it!
That sounds cool
No. It would provide a slight level of cushioning, but your momentum isn't magically cancelled. It's possible Bourne just didn't fall from a high enough level. He might have done better to tie a rope around his victim, loop it round the bannisters and use the corpse as a counterweight to slow his fall - it should turn a potentially deadly fall into just a dangerous one.
Lowkey tho, that Film Theory intro from the Squidgame logo is so clean

“Have any of you stop to ask the question if Squid Game is legal” that was the first thought that came to my mind when I watched it 😭
why are you using a crying emoji?
Could you try to determine, how much would organising Squid Game actually cost?
Well, there's a large amount of managers, soldiers and workers that help the games operate, the building is MASSIVE, and the Squid Games have been running for about 33 years, and apparently the prize for each game is 45.6 billion won, leading up to about 1,504,800,000,000 in the prizes. And because of the stuff I stated before, it's probably somewhere around the levels of billions in US dollars. In the prizes themselves, to USD, that's actually about 1.2 billion.
If you really host it in North Korea then it shouldn't be that expensive.

Mat : "Has anyone stopped and asked the question, can Squid Game be legal ?"
No, because if you're rich and powerful enough anything and everything you do can be fair game especially when you have other anonymous rich friends backing you up, from a financial and legal standpoint
Sad but true

And The Foundation would know all about that? 😁😆

The really screwy thing is that the shape employees treat the event as totally legal, yet still try to hide it all from the cops
