FANTASTIC lighting in this video 🔦 a few things I'll point out to those watching: - DON'T cheap out on the tensioner pulley. I bought the $40 pulley on Amazon and it gave out 1 year later. OEM is the way to go! I linked an OEM tensioner pulley in my video for about $100 2) 3:20 Try not to rest the coolant reservoir tank on a hot catalytic converter because it could melt the plastic 3) 11:33 DON'T over-torque the 8mm hex bolt, it should only be about 17 lb ft., this can strip the bolt as it's aluminum housing 4) Using two wrenches interlocked can make it a lot easier for leverage to pull back on the tensioner pulley
Love the video!! about to change my tensioner myself this weekend. I’m a large guy with fatter hands lol 😅, would it be much easier if I was to remove the alternator to get to the 12 mm bolt? Please let me know.
I don’t think it would help that much! I would try with long wrenches or extensions first, before taking off the alternator. It’s hard to get the belt back on the pulleys on the bottom, so try to leave it in place. Thanks for watching!
No need to take off the alternator but it is hard getting into those tight places and you have to have a good back for bending over. Great video and very precise!!!
can you do the same to an hrv 2020 all tools needed and what torque spec, would like to know the step doing replacements please belt tensioner and belt? and diagram please
It’s very hard to find the pulley for sale alone. I tried, but most all part suppliers only sold the component with the plunger. No the plunger was not bad at all, just the bearing in the pulley.
Great video . But I'm stuck on the socket size of the tension pully bolt. You never mentioned the socket size. Whats the size need to remove the pully bolt?
@@FourDRanch are you serious? he meant the size of the bolt to remove the tensioner. your just grabbing tools, a lot of us just came to know the bolt head sizes. the 17mm tension bolt sticks out like a sore thumb, you cant miss that one
TRUE! I just made a video replacing the aftermarket one I bought and changed just one year ago so this is my second time changing it Found it oem for about $100!
He put a gates on which is really good. its oem for some manufacturers, honda used to be top tier but these newer parts they manufacture or use as their oem parts are not how they used to be, quality has gone downhill through the years.

Not gonna lie you made this harder than it should’ve been
I’m just a backyard mechanic. Not very good at it.
Thanks for the upload mate. Please do more videos on the Honda 2017!
Sure thing! Just replaced the back up camera few weeks ago! not much breaks on these hondas!
Very informative. Loved your thorough presentation . Thank you very much for making this video.
Glad it was helpful!
Well done. Have you checked the bearing size for the idle pulley?
What is the bearing number? I have a 2017 Honda Accord 4cyl. Thanks, Jim

To create more space, possibly the side motor mount.

Will this tensioner fit a 2017 acura ilx 2.4L?
Thanks for fixing the accord, Daddy
would it have been easier to just replace the pulley itself with the new bearings. unless the plunger was also bad.?

Thanks for watching, I'm pretty sure it was a 17mm to release the tension on that bolt.

8mm Hex key bro he said it twice!!!
8mm hex socket, I have all the parts needed linked in my video I just made
Good stuff!
Glad you enjoyed it
i have a 2023 civic si and the tensioner pulley is already making noise at 2000 miles.... -_-. they need to find a new bearing supplier.
Agree!
À combien de kms vous avez eu le problème ?
I believe it was around 50,000 miles or 80,500 km
C’est très peux c’est une pièce qui normalement devrait durer au minimum 125000kms
I just replaced the bearing. It's easy and much cheaper
Thanks for watching my videos!
How many miles was on the car?
It was around 50,000 when the pulley went out. Thanks for watching my videos!
@@FourDRanch mines at 40,000 now and hearing the sound.
@@sanchezwhyte3641 Dang so soon, mine started at around 110k and again at around 140k
My 2017 civic is now doing the same noise at about 80000
Sorry to hear, but it’s fairly easy to fix
My Accor is at 64k making this -.-
Mannn that poor torque wrench. Torque wrenches arent to be used for loosening
Thanks for the tip, I did not know that!!
I heard you say accord but Was that an accord or civic ?
It’s a Honda Accord
Tensioner crv turbo
Thanks for watching...I just replaced a power steering pump that will be posted as a new video soon. It did not go well, broke 2 bolts!
Mile long bolt
Buy Honda or regret it later. “Expensive” is almost ALWAYS the cheaper option. Buying cheap ALWAYS ends up being more expensive, ALWAYS.
