@jqcyclops Abus uses proprietary hardened steel that they source themselves as opposed to competitors, who generally fuse together steel of lesser quality. Abus locks are 40-60% lighter than the competition yet consistently stronger and more resilient to attacks. While I can't speak directly to the NYFU chain, I know that Abus makes the most premium motorcycle security on the market.
This lock only gets an ART4 rating in The Netherlands. The GRANIT™ 58 14KS Black Loop is the only ABUS lock that earned an ART5 rating. The best chain lock I could find for your motorcycle is the Spanish LUMA Escudo Plus-H, which is the only ART5 lock with 16mm links, meaning you can't use bolt cutters on this thing. It's a monster of a chain and lock, weighing over 16lbs for the 170cm version.
But the rear tire can be removed, and then the rest of the bike can be stolen, you should lock through an integral part of the bike (the frame usually), which can't be removed.
13 mm or 12 mm is not that safe. I would not inverst more than 150 $ for a 12 mm chain, let aloone 400$$$ I purchase a Kryptonite New York Legend lock for 240$ and it has 15mm round chain links made of 3t hardened steel. Why bother with 12 mm for 400$ ???
If by "Most premium" you mean stuff that can't be cut with manual tools, then you are incorrect. The only decent bit of kit that ABUS make is the 59 D lock. I've tested pretty much every ABUS chain on the market and none of them made it past the 60 seconds stage. If you want something decent, you need to go 16mm+ in the link size and with a decent padlock.
Anything can be broken, given enough time. Bike security is really about being a deterrent. If you have to take the time to use a cutting torch to get through the chain, your average thief will find an easier target. -CK
1st,nice review of the ABUS,but how would this lock compare against the top of the line kryponite,NYFU chain? I have seen those in real life and they are MONSTERS,very nice, secure chains.
Thank you for the video, however you did not mention something very important for me before ordering. I want to know how thick the chain is, to ensure that it will fit through my bike's chassis to lock it safely. To be precise, I am talking about the dimensions of the horse-shoe mechanism the reviewer holds in his hands at 1:20. It looks quite thick.
It would be rather easy to cut off a signpost and drag a bike onto a trailer. Not to mention I could just cut the chain with my 42" bolt cutters if I wanted to, and anyone that says that they have a chain that can't be cut is full of crap... If you can't cut it outright, you can heat it with a torch to kill its temper and then cut it after. Small cutting torches are very portable and cheap ($125)
So has anyone tried to break the Abus Granit Extreme Plus 59 yet? I know Almax has videos breaking their competitors chains in under 2 mins but this wasn't one of them.
Always thread through the frame, the vast majority of bikes are stolen for parts, thieves don't care if they have to break some plastics or leave behind a wheel.
1. Motorcycle thieves don’t pick locks 2. Bennett’s is a motorcycle insurance company from England that have tested this lock with 42 inch bolt cutters and they couldn’t get through it, and they also done an angle grinder test find the results in their website.
LIES! There is a better 13mm chain out there, and you can choose what length you want, and what lock you want to use with it, additionally you can shorten the length of it on the fly and also combine it with other chains since it has longer links than this Abus chain, which also makes it lighter and less expensive! Also I know of 3 companies which offer (much) more "heavy duty protection for you motorcycle". I hate other people's bikes being stolen since it funds criminals to do other things
Yep, Alamax or Pragmasis, but then you're getting into 16mm+ monster chains...all the way up to the new Pragmasis 22mm...nuts...looks like an aircraft carrier anchor chain XD
I bet that a well-equipped motorcycle thief would cut through this chain with a pair of 42' bolt cutters in less than a minute. The thruth is painful and got m
Вихрен Костадинов With enough time and tools, just about anything can be cracked. It's about making it difficult for thieves and convenient for owners. -Hi-Viz Brian
I know this comment is 6 years old but this chain has now been tested against 42” bolt croppers, the chain survived the attack and had minimal to no damage on it.

hahha..thats full of marketing BS. Abus outsource some of their chains to China.
If this 13mm security chain rates a 25/25 on the ABUS scale, I guess 19mm security chains rate 100/25.

Agreed! I weave this lock through the frame and back tire. It’s an awesome lock!!
I believe they do, you have to contact them on their website to arrange it.
The HUGE Almax 19mm chain with Squires lock blows this out of the water!

I can even lock my car with that... Amazing!
We suggest locking through the rear tire to a fixed point, such as a sign post. ~Ali
so the weak point is the spindle nut. It comes undone.
2:23 $400 10 years ago,
Now you can get it for $200 for the shorter length and $270 for the longer one.

I concur - I have the 2.5m Almax Immobiliser Series IV Uber chain, secured in place by an Abloy PL362.
You sir, have a badass setup, hopefully 5yrs post-comment, the bike is still secure!
Use an angle grinder on it then,if it don’t cut through it,I’ll buy it
Thank you for the video, however you did not mention something very important for me before ordering.

+gRiml0Ck69 It is quite thick, about 1.25x2.5 inches. -DrewZilla
If I recall it was the 55". Thanks for watching!
through the body to a strong fixture , a tyre can be removed.
Sadly the chain can be snapped by a jack. If only they had put an Abloy chain on it, which can't be jacked.

I know this comment is 7 years old now but the chain has been tested against 42’ bolt croppers and survived with little to no damage at all
If I bought one... Where would I hook it up to on my bike?
So has anyone tried to break the Abus Granit Extreme Plus 59 yet?
I know Almax has videos breaking their competitors chains in under 2 mins but this wasn't one of them.
Hadn't heard of them, are they available in the US? -CK
They use angle grinders not hack saws
I have a ninja 300 and was wondering when I park with my bike, where exactly should i put this chain through on the bike? rear wheel? I'm not too sure
We recommend putting it through the frame if you can. Otherwise, go through the rear wheel. -DrewZilla
It can be cut in 20s
Could you not resist saying "pick proof"?
Its acutally 20 from 20 safety scale
Vid is 10 years old Abus have changed their scales around over the years
Always thread through the frame, the vast majority of bikes are stolen for parts, thieves don't care if they have to break some plastics or leave behind a wheel.
Where's the grinder test, ratcheting cutter test and the lock picking laywer test. This video means nothing unless this is shown. Just idle talk

By this point it'd be easier to cut through the bike, or the object it's attached to...
@darksidehero thanks! I havent seen a video of it yet..
They ship to us i mean.
Cyclists in NYC do!
Ok thanks
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnndddddd Its NNO0TT BoltCutter Proof!!!!!!!!!

Almax

The steel quality of this chain makes is equivalent to thicker links. Their most secure bicycle u-lock is only 13mm, but is one of the best.
hahaha 25 ???!!! Oryginal ABUS max 20
