Someone tried stealing my bike and breaking through this lock but it held up. This lock deters thieves. Anyone wondering, I have a street triple.

Dave, you open the lock, look down the inside and the side with light on is all a plastic block, this has two wings on ease them together so they clear the sides and it pulls out. The batteries are in that.
I have had one for a couple of years, one bike stolen, they didn't bother with attacking the lock, they just used a battery powered angle grinder to cut either side of the brake disc to bypass it.

Have had this now for about 16 months on my bike with the corresponding chain. Holds up great even through rain or cold and I've only had to change batteries twice. Two negatives for me: locking with the key is extremely fiddly in the position the keyhole is in, especially if you're trying to use it in combination with the chain or if the key is hanging in a keyring with 1-2 other keys (they might get in the way or hit your tire); changing the batteries is a pain since you have to remove the entire upper part inside (the side with the ball) and this is held in place by 2 small tabs that not only like to stay in place but also seem extremely fragile if one should use too much force.

i bought this when i got my bike but wish i got the Kovix one as the alarm on this is only 100db, Kovix is 120db. my bike is kept in a metal shed so it's more to alert me to any attempts really, incase they some how got into the shed and made zero noise (which is unlikely) it's a decent layer of security if used with other security tools too

I’m not sure but ide get one that stands out so they can see you have that extra layer of security also you can see it so you don’t forget to take it off, if you got the black on had that on and a chain, they might see oh he’s just got a chain nothing els this is going to be easier, it’s all about layers so ide get a yellow or red one if you want to be a bit more stylish😜

A disc lock on its own won’t stop them stealing your bike easily ,they will just lift your front wheel & have your bike up a plank into a big van & away in seconds .No body takes any notice of bike alarms ,nor get involved tackling criminal thugs just to try & prevent a strangers bike being stolen .The best you can do is get a massive heavy chain & massive padlock & lock your bike to something solid ,even then it will only deter the opportunists it won’t stop the pros ,they will still have your bike away in seconds .A tracking device might help ,if the trackers get the police to the location of the stolen bike fast enough ,but I wouldn’t hold my breath counting on it .

    • @AAUK

Of course. Even £200 chains will be cut through in seconds. You do everything you can to put them off though. It also means lots of noise and they will need an angle grinder. That might narrow down some of who can steal it.
