    When I realized I was doing this particularly with women that I was in relationships with I felt like the biggest pos. I couldn't stop, I was so angry all of the time and anything they did that upset me sent me off the deep end. It never felt intentional when I would lose it. I always felt justified but when I realized this behavior was a cycle and I felt I couldn't stop I made my fiancee and our daughter leave me so I wouldn't make her cry anymore and so our daughter would not think my behavior was acceptable. I don't like who I am most days and I'm trying to change for my daughters. The strange thing is I was never this way with my kids. I could some how silence the storm when it comes to them.
    Thank you doctor for this reminder

    What's being talked here, I think good resources. When one can admit oneself's wrong doings and thinking without exaggerating, there starts the problem solving, correctly and efficiently, with people understanding each other and not struggling nor fighting.

    Omg! Dr Conte I really needed to hear this today! It’s a co-worker that return back to work after 2 years and back to doing the same thing she was doing when left. I’m so angry because all she does is watch every move I make, then have the audacity to start her lies and trying to defame me through her lies, so me trying to be the best me was not able to let it walk, I lost it and went completely off on her, at first I was trying to feel bad but I just can’t. What is we with me to allow her to get out of control??

      I'm so sorry to hear that you are the target of her anger. That's just awful. Now, the challenge for you is to avoid allowing her to take away your sense of peace in your own internal world, too. I hope this video is helpful for you in that. Please know I'm definitely sending you all my best and tons of peace!

    Hey Dr. Conte, this video definitely made sense to me. i hate to admit it but i find my kids are my anger targets. when their mom left us i was extremely mad at her and still am for her leaving me with our kids with special needs to raise by myself. i hate to get angry at them when they just act like kids and i know it’s not their faults. what’s wrong with me? what do i do?!

    • @DrChristianConte
      @DrChristianConte  11 місяців тому +2

      First, great awareness, and second, that's tremendous humility to have the courage to admit it. It's possible that you see their mom in them and that you project her onto them, and it certainly would make sense that the hurt you feel from her you see in them. I'm sorry it took me so long to see this question, and I really hope you can receive it now. I would invite you to do your best to call yourself on it in the moment when you're doing it, and if you're willing, maybe even let your children know you recognize it and that you will commit yourself to working on not doing it. It certainly makes sense that you would feel hurt that you felt abandoned and don't have the kind of partner help and support that you believed you were going to have with her. So yes, it's understandable, but just because we can understand why we're doing what we're doing, it doesn't give us an excuse to keep doing something that's not right to do; so again, I love that you have the insight and courage to call yourself on it, and now I would ask you to consider to keep pushing yourself to continually shine light on it, as well as actively change the behavior at every turn you can. Most definitely sending you all my best and tons of peace!

      Thank you so much! I just read this and it still rings so true, catching myself in the moment has been the key. Not always easy but it’s on me to not take my emotions out on anyone. It’s gotten a lot better, I’m still finding my way and learning but never giving up on myself or kids. Thank you! Thank you for replying back! Thank you for your work and words.

    Dr. Conte,
    What if the anger is a result not of the self (hunger, bad day, just got off work etc) but rather because they see a target not a person. People who look condescendingly on others, or someone that's unable to put up a resistance, essentially a seemingly easy target. There is no logic behind their actions, they only want to stir the pot. How would you deal with such people?

My husband had hid a meth habit from me for several months in the beginning, he has relapsed and lied about it. i KNOW he used last week. I know it but he wont admit it nor take a drug test. Im angry and bringing it up constantly and he is to the point of not talking to me cuz, I wont stop and he wont admit. How do I stop harping on it? Its on my mind all the time.

      You can’t control him. You can set boundaries and if he continues to deceive you choose to remove yourself but we cannot control others. Our anger tells us when we are being violated but when we start trying to make others do what we want with anger, now we are violating their boundaries. You can only tell him what you will and won’t live with. And not making threats, threats to leave aren’t boundaries. It’s simply “I can’t accept drug use into my life so I am sad you have this issue but I will have to remove myself if it continues because it isn’t healthy for me to be around and when you hide it or are dishonest I lost trust in you”.

      No worries! Not every video will resonate. I appreciate you not giving up on my work just because this one didn't resonate. I definitely wasn't angry talking about this (although I'm aware that I come across as pretty intense, so I can see how you could interpret it that way). An anger target is someone (or something) that we direct our anger towards. Sometimes people can blame their anger target for everything that goes wrong, even though their anger target might have literally nothing to do with what's going on in their lives. People frequently do this with political figures... they pick one they dislike, usually for not agreeing with everything they think, and then they channel tons of anger onto this political figure, as if this person is actually the source of all their challenges. I hope that makes sense. Definitely sending you tons of appreciation and peace!

      @@DrChristianConte Thank you so much for taking the time to explain! I don’t have anger issues, but I want to learn why or how others do since I have a few ppl in my life that will sometimes target me. If I can better understand the anger, maybe I can help deescalate a particular episode, although running away can come in handy and be the safest option. Situational, of course. I will say this about your intensity, it is quite sexy. 😃
