    If you hold down the button on the Hahnel remote for a few seconds it will keep going until you stop it again. I have used the Hahnel remote for the last year or so. I also use it to remotely trigger my off camera flash for fun effects during long exposures.

    +Matthew Vandeputte, thank you for your review. A friend recommended I get a shutter release in order to do long exposure photography, but I had no idea of which model or product to get. At certain parts of your video you had me laughing out loud. Side note: The Canon proudct you reviewed is currently unavailable on Amazon. I purchased the one by Pixel. Thank you again and keep up the good work.

    I can vouch for the Canon controller - 10 years and still going strong with two battery changes - handles all the rigors of location shooting - you get what you pay for.

    I have 4 of the neewer's, 2 canon and 2 sony. I had to give one to a friend while on a shot since the fancy wireless one wouldn't work. the batteries last for years fyi. I had 2 in Alaska and never had one fail to function. over 150,000 shutter clicks on em. You do have to make sure the dry the battery compartment if it's wet out, but isn't that with everything.

    I have the cheap ebay unit, think I paid $19 for it. Had it for 6 months and would think I have put 20k shutters through it and it hasn't let me down yet, and still on the original set of batteries 😳. I like the idea of the wireless remote, I can think of quite a few situations it would have been handy. Ultimately, I now want a Canon unit for piece of mind and a wirelss unit for all thise times I wish I had one. Great review Matt 👍

    After losing 2 Canon remotes and drowning one :( I tried out some ebay ones that failed, then I found the Shoot brand, there are a couple of versions, one thats an exact knockoff of the canon and the other similar to your one, but I have had no issues, used them in NZ everyday 3-4 cameras a day, I was surprised, I did however buy 8 just in case :). However am hoping the Canon ones are on sale for black friday or Cyber monday and ill grab 2.

    I buy most of my photography equipment used and have made very good deals.
    The TC 80N3 is $150 new and I bought mine for $25 used and there's not a scratch or wear mark on it. Looks and works perfectly.
    I buy only Canon branded equipment except for the batteries. The aftermarket brand I buy holds a charge longer than the Canon brand at less than half the cost and can be charged with a Canon charger.

    The small connector works on other brands, Pentax, Fujifilm. I use Yongnuo RF603C triggers, they're very basic press to shoot devices, and I bought extra cables on eBay including one for Olympus.
    I think the EOS R uses the small connector, the 6D uses the larger one.

    Cheap battery saver tip:
    On my Canon remote I open the battery door and place a small piece of paper on the battery and close the door. The paper is long enough to stick out the battery slot so that I can see it.
    On my AA battery powered remotes I cut a small piece of plastic from a soda bottle and place it between the battery and the remote's battery contact.

    Hey you said about sensor burnout.give some details about it and what care to take.also you mentioned about ruining your shutter by clicking continuously(i dont have intervalometer so i use a diy trigger which can only work by shooting in continuous mode).how bad is it and how long is the shutter life when shooting timelapse all the time?

    • @MatthewVandeputte
      @MatthewVandeputte  5 років тому +3

      The sensor burn comment was more about sensor heat and increased noise in your image when running really long exposure. Don't worry about the shutter life either, I have a 600D with half a million clicks and it still works and a 5D3 with 600k clicks and it still works great too

    I can tell you one Remote to stay away from and that is the Aodelan Wireless Remote Control. $60.00 on Amazon. Had it for my Nikon D810 for astrophotography. Out of 50 shots only 42 shots were at the time I set for the exposure. With limited usage (no moon, no clouds, no winds, only 2-4 nights per month) for shooting it has now started to not work properly at all. I went back to my $15 Neewer Intervolometer works great and also every shot was at the exact time I entered for shooting.

    The ones I dont like are the ones that have a sequence that you repeat and then another multiplier to get high shot counts. Don't know if you know what imntalkimg about. Anyways I like ones that have an infinite setting for how many shots. Not repeating the 399 or whatever stupid number they came up with. The Vello shutter boss has an infinite shot setting. That one is simple and makes sense as far as setting it up quickly. The other ones that repeat the sequence you have to shut the initial delay off or when it repeats it adds that into the equation and makes a longer interval when it starts to repeat. They suck. Thanks for the video. 👍 As you can see I've been frustrated by overly complicated ridiculous intervalometers😂

    • @oneeyedphotographer
      @oneeyedphotographer 4 роки тому

      I'm doing 720 shots at present, using the internal intervalometer. If I used an external one, I'd like it to do my 720 (or whatever) and stop, without filling my memory card. I don't particularly like "infinity."
      Canon has an internal 2 digit counter, Fujifilm three.

    We get ripped off in Australia not just with camera gear but with pretty much everything. Because we have a small population companies need to put prices up as much as possible for Australian customers. You should see how much more we pay for guitars compared to overseas markets. Many people spout the Aussie dollar copmarison BS but the prices are kept really high because of the smaller population factor coupled with the fact that dollar values can occassionaly change quickly and companies are scared of diminished profit margins because of this.

    The biggest issue between them is that MOST do not do this.....I want to set the interval to 40 seconds, at 40seconds to take 3 pictures 3 seconds apart, then repeat this until I stop it.
    Neewer NW880 does it. Was really expecting to hear this important distinction....After all, this is about the difference between them.

    Thanks for this review. Good to know that even with all the cons (stupid battery, no wireless, no off switch) you actually have five of the ridiculously overpriced Canon remotes. Also it is unfair to grab the two cables and the receiver/transmitter of the Hahnel and compare that to picking up the wired remote. Apples and oranges. The Hahnel does so much more and is WIRELESS! If you don't want the wireless then just pick up the transmitter and the wire for #$ sake! That was a stupid comparison. Do you realize you could by 50 (fifty!) of the cheap remotes for the cost of the Canon remotes you purchased. This seems to come across as a biased review. I bought the cheap Neewer remote for my D850 about 5 years ago. It has been out in so much wet weather and basically has never failed me.
